i studied mech eng'g in university in nigeria. now practice in mfg sector as maintenance engineer. also studying for masters in mech.

mech is a very beautiful art, u cant love it enuf when u r into it with ur mind. if u mean monetary reward, u hav to b patient and acquire value first, much later, dem go pay for am. it is like a body wt large inertia, difficlt to get in motion, bt once in motion, evryone feels it, dats our financial style. unfortunately, d local market economy has made it difficult for many of us to practice at all or effectively. ours is a largely service driven economy which does not encourage people in d real sector, which is where we majorly belong. never d less, d system never runs without us, so at all at all, somethn must dey happen. our educational system is only a subset of d larger society without up to date technology.

for d first degree, i still dont hav qualms with d standard, afterall i attended state owned university, yet i relate with contemporaries worldwide and earn my due respect on ground of competence, all u need is to know what u r doing. for undergraduates, dont fall for d stupid school of thought dat most of what u r doin will b irrelevant after school, u r preparing a future snare for urself. in fact ur success in d profession will be based on hw well u are able to relate real time problems with what u learnt. i still hav to go solve euler, laplace, fourier, and other equation problems. i still hav to go back to my old notebooks. i still buy textbooks to read. if i an du were to sit for ur current semester course exam, i will perform like i were ur contemporary. be ready to soil ur hands. dont worry about what d fitters know for now, when u get into d system, if ur attitude towards them is good, they will show u and dat will really help u and in short time u get better than them with it, otherwise, they can set u up with severe consequence.
Pls hw is manufacturing option in mechanical engineering happening in the labour market?
for hiigher degrees, d system is inadequate as d industries hav evolved beyond what d schools hav to offer, dats d challenge. so what we just do is either go abroad or get to read a lot.d secon option is what i do majorly and it has been very helpful, i hav all sort of materials, pdf books freely downloaded, some from friends who bought, trade magazines and i attend courses. most r piad for by myself and if i tell u how long ( recent) i am on d profession my cv will amaze u not mentionin if i hav to teach u in d classroom, u definitely will look down on some of ur professors. currently i earn stipend but i hav no worry cos i am still payin som price . som r already biddin high for it, but it cld get higher if i wait, so waiting i am.

d long and short of it all is dt it is up to u to make a worthy career out of it, it is more of an attitudinal engineering. u make it and it makes u.
