Science/Technology / Asus Introduces The Zenfone 8 Flip And Mini Flagship Zenfone 8 by andrewalbanter: 10:38pm On May 14, 2021 |
Asus is taking a slightly different turn with this year’s ZenFone series. While the ZenFone 8 Flip looks a lot like previous years’ phones, with its large screen and flip-out camera mechanism, the company went back to the drawing board for the flagship ZenFone 8 and redesigned it as a smaller one-hand-friendly device: kind of an Android iPhone mini. The two phones make their global debut today, priced at €599 for the ZenFone 8 and €799 for the ZenFone 8 Flip. Asus says that only the ZenFone 8 will come to North America; it is expected this summer. The US price is still being finalized, but the company says it will cost somewhere between $599 and $799. The ZenFone 8 and 8 Flip both use a Snapdragon 888 chipset, but that’s about as far as the similarities go. The ZenFone 8 features a 5.9-inch 1080p OLED display with a fast 120Hz refresh rate. It will be sold in configurations of up to 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage and includes an IP68 waterproof rating. Both the 8 and 8 Flip support 5G — but when the ZenFone 8 arrives in the US, it will only work on AT&T and T-Mobile’s LTE and sub-6GHz 5G networks. The ZenFone 8’s two rear cameras are borrowed from the ZenFone 7 series: a 64-megapixel standard wide with OIS that kicks out 16-megapixel images and a 12-megapixel ultrawide. Since the camera array doesn’t flip forward to play the role of a selfie camera, there’s now a 12-megapixel camera under an off-center hole punch on the front panel. The phone’s compact size is reflected in its 4,000mAh battery, which is much smaller than previous years’ 5,000mAh cells. It supports 30W wired charging with the included charger, but it doesn’t offer wireless charging. There are dedicated dual stereo speakers and even a 3.5mm headphone jack. The ZenFone 8 Flip is, by necessity, a much larger device with a 6.67-inch screen — a 1080p OLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate. It offers a bigger 5,000mAh battery with 30W wired charging, includes up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, but it lacks an IP rating. The main attraction, of course, is its flip-out camera array. The triple-camera hardware is borrowed from the ZenFone 7, including a 64-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide, and an 8-megapixel telephoto with 3x optical zoom. Asus says the module itself has a stronger motor with better endurance; users can expect to get up to 300,000 “flips” out of it. A custom RhinoShield case will be sold separately in some markets with a sliding cover to protect the housing and a sensor that automatically activates the camera when the cover is opened. https://sites.google.com/view/idlerestauranttycoonunlimited https://sites.google.com/view/stickmanmasterunlimitedmoney https://sites.google.com/view/theotownunlimiteddiamonds https://sites.google.com/view/heroes-inc-unlimited-money https://sites.google.com/view/doormanstoryunlimitedcrystals https://sites.google.com/view/ludo-king-unlimited-coins-gems https://sites.google.com/view/sonicdash2unlimitedredrings https://sites.google.com/view/lostislandblastadventure2021 https://sites.google.com/view/slugterraslugitout2unlimited https://sites.google.com/view/nautical-life-unlimited-money |
Webmasters / Linus Torvalds Announces Massive Linux Kernel 5.8 Update by andrewalbanter: 8:25pm On Jun 27, 2020 |
Linus Torvalds has officially started the development of Linux kernel 5.8 with the very first release candidate, and the single word that best describes this new version is “big.” “5.8 looks big. Really big,” Torvalds explains. At this point, the key numbers shared by Torvalds indeed seem to confirm this is the case: there are over 14,000 files that have been changed, 14,000 non-merge commits, and some 800,000 new lines. Torvalds says that at some level, Linux kernel 5.8 reminds of 4.9, which itself has been one of the biggest releases in a long time. “As of -rc1, it's right up there with v4.9, which has long been our biggest release by quite a bit in number of commits. Yes, 5.8-rc1 has a couple fewer commits than 4.9-rc1 did, but in many ways it's a much more comprehensive release despite that,” Torvalds explains. “The 4.9 kernel was artificially big partly because of the greybus subsystem that was merged in that release, but also because v4.8 had had a longer rc series and thus there was more pent up development. In 5.8, we have no sign of those kinds of issues making the release bigger - there's just simply a lot of development in there.” First RC is live So is there anything special that stands out in this release? Not really, and this is the most important part of the whole thing. While 5.8 not coming with any particular highlight, it’s one massive release mostly because of the amount of changes that are happening in the update, including several concerning drivers. “In the 5.8 merge window we have modified about 20% of all the files in the kernel source repository. That's really a fairly big percentage, and while some of it _is_ scripted, on the whole it's really just the same pattern: 5.8 has simply seen a lot of development,” Torvalds notes. The first release candidate is now live, so more information will be shared as the development advances with more testing builds. |
Webmasters / Microsoft Launches Its Windows 10 Antivirus On Android by andrewalbanter: 11:36pm On Jun 26, 2020 |
Microsoft has recently announced the very first preview build of its antivirus app for Android devices, a few months after the company confirmed that it’s bringing the security product to mobile devices. Microsoft Defender ATP for Android comes with several built-in protection modules. First and foremost, it’s the web protection section that includes an anti-phishing engine. The antivirus checks websites sent via SMS, WhatsApp, email, browsers, or other apps and if there’s a chance they are used for phishing, they’re instantly blocked. Of course, a notification is also sent to the user, who is provided with options to allow the connection, report it safe, or dismiss the warning. Microsoft Defender SmartScreen is used to block unsafe network connections that some malicious apps are trying to create after infecting an Android device. Signature-based malware scanning What’s more, Microsoft Defender ATP for Android comes with malware scanning, using virus signatures and cloud protection to block potentially-dangerous files. When installing apps, scans are automatically performed, and even if a safe app is downloaded, Microsoft Defender issues a notification to let users know the app is clean. Microsoft Defender ATP comes to Android with support for Microsoft Endpoint Manager, which allows security teams to better manage a compromised device and prevent access to sensitive data. “A compromised device would be blocked from accessing Outlook email. When Microsoft Defender ATP for Android finds that a device has malicious apps installed, it will classify the device as “high risk” and will flag it in the Microsoft Defender Security Center. Microsoft Intune uses the device’s risk level in conjunction with pre-defined compliance polices to activate Conditional Access rules that block access to corporate assets from the high risk device,” Microsoft explains. Microsoft Defender for Android (preview) is currently available in the Microsoft Defender Security Center for IT admins, and the company promises more options would be added later this year. |
