Today (June 20, 2020), is the longest day of the year

For those who have been following the weather (especially children who play a lot, adults who fast, and Muslims who pray around 7 in the evening), you may have noticed that dusk comes much later, and lasts for longer.

(Dusk is the period of brief daylight after the sun has set. It marks the boundary between evening and night.)

Everywhere becomes dark around 7:30 pm or even much later, instead of around a few minutes to seven as it used to be in the past (at least, here in Lagos).

This is happening because we are close to the summer solstice, and in fact, today, June 20, 2020, is the summer solstice.


What does Summer Solstice mean?

As you should know, the earth revolves around the sun. However, the earth is not completely round and neither is its orbit round the sun.

The earth’s orbit is elliptical, which makes the distance between the earth and the sun vary throughout the year.

The earth itself is a bit flat at the north and south poles, which makes its side bulge out like a balloon that is about to burst.

The result is that, once a year, the earth positions itself such that the sun appears at its highest position in the sky in the northern part of the earth.

That day is called the Summer Solstice and is usually between June 20 and 22 every year.

However, that moment in 2020 falls on 5:44 pm EDT on June 20 (today). For us in Nigeria, that is 10:44 pm WAT (West African Time).


What happens on the Summer Solstice?

The summer solstice is always the longest day and shortest night of the year. This means we will enjoy more daylight today than on any other day of the year.

People living at the northernmost and southernmost parts of the earth will even enjoy 24 hours of sunlight throughout the day.

The summer solstice also marks the beginning of the summer season in the northern hemisphere (the northern half of the earth).

However, the reverse will happen in the southern hemisphere (the southern half of the earth) where the sun will be at its lowest point, making the summer solstice the beginning of the winter season in the Southern hemisphere.


What about the solar eclipse?

Lucky for us, this year’s solstice will coincide with a very rare solstice solar eclipse that will last from 4:45 am to 9:34 am on June 21. (The next solstice solar eclipse will only come around on June 21, 2039.)

The eclipse will look like the photo above. That is the moon covering the sun with the thin "ring of fire" line visible.

Tomorrow’s eclipse will be visible from some parts of Africa and Asia.

People living in Congo, Ethiopia, and China will see the eclipse, and so will people living in northern India, southern Pakistan, and the Central African Republic.

The eclipse will be most visible in the area that is orange in color.

Unfortunately, it appears that it will not be visible from Nigeria.

Don't be silly. There is a reason a case like this is called statutory rape. That the pedophile did not know she is of majority (old enough) is of no substance. That defense won't hold up in court when he is charged. And there is no such thing as consent from a minor. The law does not presume a minor has the legal capacity to grant consent as she is still under the law a minor. So if the guys perpetrates the act, it will sure amount to statutory rape and would go away for a long time.
My advice to Op is to get closer to the his sister than ever. Beating her will be a big mistake. He should constantly talk to her and tell her the guys just want to sleep with her and dump her after bragging to his friends of his conquest. If she's smart as he alleges then she should be well guided

The sad part is that when men who wear Women's dress are criticized today, they are quick to claim the Bible supports the lifestyle. The worst part is that they claim Jesus also dressed in similar manner i.e he wore robe. This is a big fat like because Jesus never wore robe, a fashion similar to women's dress.

Why would Jesus wear robe when he specifically spoke against it in the Bible. He gave a doctrine against wearing robes as seen below.

In case you are wondering what long clothing is, it means long robe as seen below.

But you say, "what about all those pictures depicting Jesus wearing robes?". Those were painted by people who never existed during his time and culture. Those are paintings by Michael Angelo and other sodomites who even made Jesus wear long hair.

Jesus never had long hair because he's the express image of God while men are the image of God. Wouldn't it be ridiculous if we as the image of God are not allowed to wear long hair, but Jesus whom we are in his image wears long hair?

Jesus never wore robe because that would make him a hypocrite. He spoke against long robes and told people to beware of those who do such thing. Won't it be absurd to now see him wear long robe? Wouldn't that mean he's saying people should beware of him too? It would also mean he's an hypocrite who preaches against something but does it anyway. I'm glad we know he was sinless, therefore he couldn't have gone against his word.

So, what did Jesus and the culture back then wear? I don't know because I didn't exist back then. But what I do know is that he never wore robe nor any dress-looking garment. But trousers existed long before he came to earth. The book of Daniel spoke of men wearing trousers otherwise known as Hosen.

Some people can be quick to quote Mathew 9:22 to prove that Jesus wore a robe or cloak, but that's a lie inspired by false Bible translations.

She said to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed."

New Living Translation
for she thought, “If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.”


The NIV and the NLT both state that Jesus wore a robe or cloak, but it's a lie. That's why I wrote a thread exposing false Bible translations and advised people to stick to the King James Version only.

Look at how they rendered Jesus to be a hypocrite. They called Jesus a man who goes against his own words by putting on robe which he gave a doctrine against. The only time Jesus wore a robe was when they placed a purple robe on him and a crown of thorns. They did it to mock him. It wasn't something he decided to wear on his own. Or will you say he also decided to wear a crown of thorns?

So, guys don't be sucked into modern fashion that sees men wearing women's clothing e.g dress, Jalabya, makeup, earrings ankle chains etc. Doing such makes you an abomination before God.

Protectionism has failed to industrialize the country. Manufacturing only accounts for 10% of GDP. Ghana with a much more open economy than Nigeria is 24%. Ghana shows the country does not need to ban this and that to industrialize.

Countires do best when they focus resources on areas they have comparative advantage. It is like sowing seed on good soil. You blow only where you're good at. You don't blow where you suck at. It likes sowing seed on rocky ground. Nigeria through import bans is sowing seed on rocky ground.

Nigeria has no comparative advantage in rice production and this is the economic reason why the country imports rice in the first place. The problem has never been about production but economics. Imported rice will probably cost about 11,000 without tariffs but local rice is 17,000. To get people to eat local rice, the government bans the stuff and people are forced to eat the local for 17,000.

The question is how does paying 17k help Nigerians? The primary cause of hunger isn't a lack of food: it is actually a lack of money. The British tried to encourage local farmers to grow rice but the weren't interested. They preferred cocoa, palm oil, rubber and other products. Nigeria was a world leader in some of them. That is the power of comparative advantage. That is still referred to as a golden age.

Germany exports over $1.5 trillion worth of goods yearly, that is thrice Nigeria's GDP grin. The population of Germany is less than half of Nigeria's. Exports of manufactured goods by the way is one of the reasons manufacturing accounts for 24% of Ghana's GDP!

The massive smuggling is simply economics or the market informing you that your policy makes no sense.

Nigeria is simply a shameless workman blaming his tools.

You certainly have failed in this. Nigeria's economic policy towards its African neighbours have unfortunately led to the present sorry state of affairs. It's good to be magnanimous, but doing it at the detriment of your own survival is sheer stupidity. Benin republic's population is perhaps a little above two million yet there are the sixth largest importer of rice in the world. This is of course a smoking gun and totally unacceptable because most of these products are smuggled into the country due to their government policy of intentionally abdicating their responsibility of policing their border. These smaller countries have long waged an economic war on Nigeria by taking advantage of Nigeria lax laws and ecowas protocol. But we've had enough. Unbridled smuggling of products we should be producing has made our manufacturing sector comatose. I know it's bad news for importers like you, but it is a patriotic step by Mr Buhari and is supported by all those who love this country.

Their goods are smuggled into Nigeria on the one hand, and Nigeria's subsidized fuel are smuggled into their countries. A case of double whammy for Nigeria. Because of them, successive Nigerian government has continued to increase the price of fuel to the disadvantage of mostly impoverished Nigerians.

Nigeria is so blessed that it is literally taken for a big fool by its neighbors who build their own economy / success around its (Nigeria’s) inefficiencies.

In other words, these neighbors would never want Nigeria to improve by controlling its own economy.
