Hey Ula, I'm not sure what country you're in, but in the UK (and please seek legal advice to confirm this) a court can have a marraige annulled if it is proven that the marraige was entered into under false pretenses. I suppose the non-disclosure of additional dependents could be considered. However before you go down that road, I think you should consider your posotion and really ask if seperation is what you really want,. I know you're hurt and i can't imagine how you must feel, but it's a hard slog out there and raising 3 kids by yourself is going to be tough. I wish you the best |

@ Kiwi992, If you feel the expats that work in the Niger-Delta can't get work when they get back to the UK then I think you need to re-check your facts. The UK is not the dying horse you seem to think it is. The oil and gas sector is doing very very good business, and the jobs are out there believe me I know. I believe i said , " other UK exports are more affordable keeping the economy ticking over, (China and Indian economies have slowed) but are still growing, and where do they get the fuel for growth ![]() Ahhh then you ask , "where do you expect the European countries to turn to, for their insatiable demand for oil? Iraq or the Niger Delta? errrrrm bro, for August 2008 Nigeria only the 13th largest oil exporter in the world. And with Total Usan not coming online till Q3 2010, Total Akpo still not online and the all too frequent disruptions on Bonga, they are only going to slide even further down that list. Again check the facts, Niger Delta oil is important but lets keep it in perspective, As for the pipeline war currently raging in Georgia. Friend, Russia has ALWAYS had a stranglehold on the supply of gas & crude oil in Europe, not so much in the UK for crude but, with north sea crude declining our imports are up. (But it many not always be this way EDF may still buy British Energy and we'll all go nuclear) The Port of Poti has not been destroyed it has been blocked by Russsia cutting of Georgian imports, no doubt a blow to the Arab development deal and to the people of Poti. But not an esential location to the current BTC pipeline. BTC already takes its oil from the Caspian Sea in Baku in Azerbaijan through Tbilisi in Georgia to then to Turkey. and it already sells to Europe, The only way Georgia can disrupt European supplies is to destroy the pipeline going through Tbilisi, but if they did that it would be domestic suicide as its the same line that supplies Georgia, again check your facts. Finally As for me and my 'so-called cushy job' I thank you for your best wishes, regards Ai |

@ kiwi992 Finally, I just have to add this point, , in my opinion trying to say that those ex-pats working in Nigeria's Niger-Delta 'wont survive' if they return to their own country is non-starter. The credit crunch is global, yet multi billion doller deals are still being done, the UK manufacturing industry has been in decline for the last 20 years, but with the current economic climate the pound has weakened, meaning other UK exports are more affordable keeping the economy ticking over, (China and Indian economies have slowed) but are still growing , and where do they get the fuel for growth ![]() So by all means plan to wring their necks for the sufferings they have brought unto your people but rest assured the sun will still rise in the UK and 'our people' will still line up at their embassy trying to get visas to 'check out' peace ! |

@ kiwi992, You raise a lot of good points but you seem to be directing all you anger at the operators, what about the mis-management of Nigeria. The millions and billions that have been stolen, skimmed, 419ed, exported, call it what you like, away by government officials that claim to have the 'people' in mind. You talk about people of the Niger Delta being down trodden for years, but who sells the oil blocks to the likes of Shell, Total, BP etc , Who invites tenders from rouge umbrella companies owned by bent Nigerian's who wouldn't know an oil well from a bore hole. Where is NNPC in all of this ![]() I'm not saying that the Niger Delta haven't been wronged, I think they have been and I agree enough is enough, but lets not just point the fingers at the people we invited to come in to Nigeria, lets look at our own actions and learn from them. You ask people to play fair, how does kidnapping a 6 year old holding, her at gun point and demanding money from her father (who is Nigerian), help the 'cause' ![]() There is a time and place for action, rather than try and deal with the symptoms, lets get to the root of the problem. Why don't we get our act together and shake up the oil industry, what I'm talking about is an internal radical shift in Nigeria's approach to oil, oil reserves, block allocation, tendering processes, contract award and revenue allocation. , look at whats happening in the banking sector, that itself shows you that a revolution in the way of thinking is required. This is way too long already but there is more !!! holla back !! |

@ Landis landis: Its £900 a day Monday to Friday, weekend working is a fixed rotation every other week at the same rate. Its a 1 year. Taxes will be paid in the UK via a Ltd coproration tax, personal tax is between me and HMRC. My motivation, good question , still thinking about it. I have a private arrangement to look after the family |

@ Unit, - Thanks for the heads up, but i don't think I have 'advertised' myself, neither have I included in this post any personal information about myself, my current position or the proposed position in Nigeria. I have merely stated the facts to solicit an honest and unbiased opinion which I have now received. All the information about Niger-Delta jobs and the pay scale is already in the public domain, you just need to know where to look. Besides there are people earning a lot more money than £900 a day. ![]() |

The company office is based in VI, the role will take me to all the 'interesting' areas of the Niger Delta, as a contractor, no ransom will be paid should I be 'invited' to spend time with any militants. (the company was very clear about this - hence job taken at own risk), I'm as black as they come, and as long as i keep my mouth shut i can blend in as well as any Tola, Bola or Kola, ![]() But I've been told my Pigeon is somewhat suspect |

Hi all, Thanks for the replies thus far, much appreciated. To ALERT-EFCC, its clear you have nothing to say, but in answer to your questions why do I have a soft spot for Nigeria, Becausethe last time I checked, "There has never been anything false about hope." - Barack Obama. (and if you don't get that, then you should consider taking the job) |

Ok Peeps, Here's the deal, I work in the oil and gas sector and have done for the last 8 years. I'm a contractor running a one-man limited company operating in the UK, (although I have also worked in Norway, Angola, Spain and Aberdeen). With light sweet crude over $100 a barrel, operators are desperate to get all they can out of marginal fields, so I’m being asked to consider roles in Nigeria’s Niger Delta, and the re-numeration £900 a day. All flights, meet-n-greets, accommodation, internal travel and local expat protection etc will be provided by the company, however they do say you take the job at your own risk. Now ordinarily I'd tell them to take a run and a jump, (which is what I said then I was offered work in Iraq) but I have a soft spot for Nigeria, and I'm seriously considering it. Some history about me, I am British-Nigerian, although I only got my 'green' passport when I had to go to PH for my traditional wedding, (get this, it was cheaper than taking a day off work and going to Nigeria-House to get a visa), a sad reason but its the truth. ![]() Now if I do go the wife and the kids will not be coming, (something that she and all her friends are not pleased about, telling me they will 'scope' me as soon as I land), like I'm that kind of guy?? The plan is to do a 6 weeks on 2 weeks off rotation and although the site is the Niger-delta, I'll spend time in the VI office. But I'm conflicted, Why am I taking it?? Is it just about the money ![]() ![]() I know 900 reasons ![]() ![]() |

I believe it is still illegal to import 2nd hand cars older than 5 years old into Nigeria. Even if the car is in a container, the rules still apply. To the best of my knowledge the only way to do this is to have an insider that will turn a blind eye to the year of registration. Ai |

Hi there, Its not that I doubt you, but can you please confirm which satellite(s) your device uses to triagulate the users position. European and US sat-nav devices (Tomtom, Navman, Garmin etc) all use down-graded de-militerized US satellites. The current GPS is run by the US military and is currently the only fully functional Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) in the world. As far as i'm aware no current maping system has been produced for Nigeria, but please prove me wrong regards Ai ![]() |
