OF ABACHA'S DEATH AND THE MOST MEMORABLE BEATING OF MY LIFE By Anjorin Adeyemi

Since General Sanni Abacha has been so "generous" in sending us alerts even from the grave, may I also on this 21st anniversary appreciate him for leaving me a memorabilia on the date of his demise.

It was around evening in the Gaa-Akanbi area of Ilorin, somewhere on that Omosebi Hospital road linking Gaa-Akanbi and Ajase-Ipo road. I was just returning from lesson with Iyanuoluwa Ebenezer Adimula, only to see mammoth crowd jubilating from a far distance.

The spirit of beating kept giving me a Macedonian call. I obliged. Before I could remember my surname, I was already in their midst dancing and jubilating. Brethren, I had never seen such jubilation in my life. 21 years after, I can still sing those songs so well.

I joined them at Woye Bread, then we proceeded to Challenge through Sabo-Oke. The crowd only grew larger and larger. Different groups with different songs. Some with symbolic caskets, some with goats tied. It was too much fun to the very naive me.

Coincidentally, when we got to Taiwo road, I met my immediate elder brother Michael who had also been in another camp in the crowd. Omo the joy was unlimited. Aluta continua so did both of us also continue.

Checking the time, it was already 12am. Then out of nowhere, police came to disperse us with tear gas in front of the Amusement park. My Dad's welding shop was close to that place, and having been so used to area, navigating the shortcuts was just way too easy. To cut the long story short, we came out somewhere opposite A-Division through Coca-Cola road.

By the time we were approaching home brethren, the streets were absolutely deserted. Total blackout in those 1998 days of Ilorin. Just then, the unexpected happened. We met our Dad who had been looking for two of his children and was on his way to A-Division to report the case.

Brethren, at home that day, all I still remember is that he just kept the big chair behind the door...0

Travel / Re: The Official Cost Of Obtaining A Nigerian Passport And Other Related Issues by Anjoaderim(m): 8:48pm On Nov 06, 2018
Forget all these OFFICIAL lies. I just did a replacement of my stolen passport. I had first called the head office in Abuja. The guy on the phone told me it was 22,500 but when I asked how much it would cost in Minna office where I was intending to do mine he simply said " I don't know oooh, they can call it anything they like". To cut the long story short I eventually paid 50,000. This is despite me having the old passport number, photocopy of the old passport page, court affidavit and police report all gotten by me. The Nigerian Immigration operates like a cult. I called several people to be sure, they all said it was 50k. God help Nigeria.

Politics / Re: Aisha Buhari Reacts To Ban On Production Of Codeine Containing Syrups In Nigeria by Anjoaderim(m): 3:00pm On May 02, 2018
While we celebrate the feat and hope its fully implemented, let's not forget that there are other substances that are being abused. Today for example, while trying to enlighten my students on the ban of drugs containing codeine, they just kept laughing and told me codeine was for learners. They mentioned several other substances, but one that got my attention the most was dissolving 20 Tomtom in Lacasera. One of them was like... Uncle if you take it hen, you will wash even your rooftop.

Politics / Re: Buhari, Tinubu, Akande, Other APC Chieftains In Closed Door Meeting by Anjoaderim(m): 8:12pm On Jan 23, 2018
Without mincing words, some of us who voted for Buhari are just still in a state of Perplexia, BUHARI SHOULD JUST GO AND TAKE THE SEAT OF ELDER STATESMAN. The GOLDEN RULE IS TO ALWAYS TAKE A BOW WHEN THE OVATION IS LOUDEST. A word they say is enough for the wise.

If only the attention given to the oil and gas sector in terms of foreign scholarships is given to the agricultural sector, Nigeria will not be where it is today.
