Nigerian media personality, Bolanle Olukanni, has condemned ministers of God who continue heading their ministries after engaging in extra-marital affairs.

The TV presenter made her comments via her Twitter page on Tuesday after popular Gospel artiste, Sammie Okposo publicly confessed to cheating on his wife.

On his Instagram page, the singer disclosed that in late 2021, he had an affair with a lady when he travelled to the United States. He also apologised to his wife and announced that he was stepping down from his ministry for some time.

Using Okposo’s actions as an example, Olukanni opined that ministers of God caught in a similar web must step down from leadership, and hold themselves accountable for their actions.

In her tweet, she criticised ministers and pastors who “feel like they can cheat and go on like all is well.”

She continued, “It is not well! Cheating is a violation that is so deep and a reflection of a deep disconnect with where you should be spiritually.

“When you cheat and you are in a moral position, you must step away from Ministry! You have to! And also it’s so important to hold yourself accountable and confess. When something is in the dark let it come to the light so that there is healing!

“Yes he did a horrible thing, and now he has made steps to restore and heal. You can’t be cheating and still ministering even if you have repented.”

She stated that stepping down would allow such persons to have moments of introspection to discover the true reasons for their misconduct.

“Leave the ministry and go and ask yourself why were you cheating. Find the foundation of your relationship with God before your lead others,” she said.

Abia has been declared the safest state in the South East geopolitical zone since the outbreak of the current wave of insecurity in the zone.

Deputy Governor of the state, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, who made the claims while declaring open the 2022 Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, games for the South East in Umuahia, said that the State Government had put in place necessary structures to deal with security issues in the state.

He assured doctors participating in the games of their safety, adding that security is top on the priority list the state government.

The Deputy Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Health Dr. Joe Osuji, commended doctors for their efforts in the health care delivery despite various challenges.

He also thanked them for choosing Abia State for the zonal games and urged the participants to explore the huge hospitality potentials in the state.

Earlier in a remark, the National Secretary of Sport Committee NMA, Dr. James Omotim who gave a brief history of the NMA games, said it was hosted across the six ge-opolitical zones.

He said that the best state/team would be selected to represent the region in the national games that would involve other professional bodies, warning that any state that hired a machinery would be disqualified.

In his address, the Chairman, NMA, Abia State, Dr. Chimezie Okwuonu, noted that the games had confirmed that doctors outside their clinical responsibilities, also had time for sports and to socialise.

He listed the games to feature in the games to include : football, scrabble lawn tennis, volleyball, dadminton, basketball, golf, table tennis among others.

Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Karibe Ojigwe, in a remark described sports as very essential activity for longevity and wellness.

Sammie Okposo started his music career as a soundtrack producer for Nollywood in 1992. He was well-known at that time in the small circle of Nollywood actors and producers.

He later began to get more career flashpoints when he started the Sammie Okposo Praise Party, a platform that brought many up-and-coming Nigerian gospel artistes into the scene.

The Niger Delta-born music star was known for emboldening the gospel music scene by taking his music away from the quiet confines of the church.


Awards
Okposo burst into the music scene in the early 2000s. He was relentless in dropping several hit singles and albums which earned him the 2006 Kora Best Gospel Artiste in Africa; the 2014 Crown SABC Best for African Gospel; the 2005 Afro Hollywood UK Best Gospel Artiste, and many others. He is known for his popular Niger Delta-themed songs such as, ‘Welu Welu’ and ‘Oghene Do’, among others.

In a recent interview (Not The PUNCH), when asked whether his affairs contributed to his fame, Okposo stated that he thrived on the negative and positive vibes that his past affairs brought him. But he said he was careful not to be misrepresented by them.

Okposo said, “Of course, they did. As I said, everything works together for good. I tell people that in the midst of all the publicity, be it negative or positive, it will eventually make your name known but you have to be able to balance the situation because sometimes, you may be at the wrong place at the wrong time; sometimes, you can be misrepresented and sometimes, it could be your own doing.”


Endorsements
His 2004 album, “Addicted”, was a hit that lit many entertainment spaces, as he deployed the unique Niger Delta impressions as well as the energy of a well-versed vocalist on the songs.

It was therefore not much a surprise for music critics when he bagged an endorsement with popular telecoms provider, Globacom. Okposo was also a United Nations Peace Ambassador.


Romance
Although Okposo was said to have been romantically involved with many ladies, he spoke in a 2012 interview with a national newspaper where he promised his wife that he would never cheat on her. This was at a time when she had not conceived any child for Okposo. The entertainer broke his promise recently when he confessed to having had an affair with a lady in the United States recently.

Okposo has performed on many national and international platforms. He is also involved with TMG Records, a reputable US-based records label.
