A humanitarian service award has been given to the Imo first lady, Nneoma Nkechi Rochas Okorocha by Rotary International club, district 9140 in recognition of her unequal passion to provide homes for the poor in society.
Accepting the award, the Governor’s wife appreciated the gesture of goodwill shown her by the Rotary International, describing it as added incentive to spur her on to greater service to humanity. Mrs. Okorocha observed that the fact that the award was coming from a fellow woman the District Governor Ijeoma Pearl Okoro was indicative that time has come for women everywhere to appreciate and encourage their fellow women. She underscored the relevance of women to national development and the need for women to encourage one another in doing good. She further solicited Rotary International‘s partnership in her “she Needs A Roof Project (SNARP), reiterating that the purpose of God’s blessings of wealth is for us to help put smiles on the faces of the downtrodden.
In a remark, the District Governor, Distirct 9140, Rotarian Ijeoma Pearl Okorothanked the Governor’s wife for attending the Women in Rotary seminer and accepting the award.

Imo women have been lauded for their resourcefulness and commitment towards the upliftment of their homes and society. The wife of the President of Nigeria , Hajia Aisha Buhari intimated this during the 2015 Imo August Meeting organized by Imo first lady, Nneoma Nkechi Rochas Okorocha. Hajia Buhari who was represented at the occasion by the wife of the Vice President, Mrs Dolapo Osibanjo, observed that despite numerous prevailing economic challenges, Imo women have consistently remained positive and undaunted. She enjoined to ensure that they pass on these values they hold dear from generation to generation, and commended Nneoma nkechi Rochas Okorocha for her commitment towards the welfare of Imo women.



The August meeting which had the theme, “WOMEN DARE TO DREAM; IT IS POSSIBLE”, was held at the Hero’s Square, owerri.

In his remarks at the occasion, the Imo state governor, Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha stoutly advocated the need for all cultural barriers limiting Nigerian women from reaching their full potential to be eliminated. Gov Okorocha argued that if not afforded the opportunity, Nigerian women would not be able to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the nation and therefore urged Nigerian leaders to give women a chance. He appreciated the presence of the wife of the president and other state governors who graced the occasion, reiterating Imo state’s total support for President Buhari.

Earlier, the Imo first lady, while addressing the crowd, urged the women to remain steadfast and dogged in the drive to achieve success as with God and commitment, the attainment of any dream is possible. Mrs Okorocha re-emphasized the need to continue as agents of positive change in all spheres of the society.

The August meeting featured March Past, Cultural Dances, Food Exhibition, Disco Competition, Mrs Imo Beauty Pageant, Oso-mmiri, Folk Song and the Headscarf and Tie Knotting between couples, by participants from the 27 LGAs of the State.

At the end of the event, the overall best performing Local Government Areas which took the first, second and third positions won cash prizes of N2.5 million,N2 million and N1 million respectively. The victorious LGAs were as follows; Ideato South for first position participated in the competition\, Obowo second position while Isiala Mbano third position. A consolation prize of N1 million was given to the other LGAs that participated in the competitions.

The winner of the Mrs Imo Beauty Pageant emerged from Owerri Zonewith a cash prize of half a million naira.

In a bid to enhance the lives of indigent persons in the state, the Imo first lady, Nneoma Nkechi Rochas Okorocha organized a special March WODDI (Women Of Divine Destiny Initiative) prayer meeting in conjunction with Nneoma Kitchento feed over 6,000 (six thousand) of them.

The less privileged persons were drawn from the 305 wards of the 27 local government areas of Imo state comprised of widows, orphans, disabled persons, Hausa and Yoruba communities and representatives of Charity homes and institutions.

Speaking to the beneficiaries who were gathered at the Imo International Convention Centre ground along bank road, Owerri, the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha advocated the need for brotherliness among Imo people Ndi Igbo and Nigerians in general. Governor Okorocha lauded the Imo first lady on the Imo first lady on the programme reiterating his administration commitment to improving the lives of Imo citizens while soliciting their continued support.

Also speaking, the wife of the Imo state Governor, Nneoma nkechi Rochas Okorocha maintained that the aim of the programme was to demonstrate love for the less privileged, stressing that it was the responsibility of the privileged to feed the hungry and shelter the homeless. She pointed out that Igbos must restore the culture of sharing and giving among them.

She noted that Imo women have resolved to be powerful forces of positive transformation, being conscious of what they say and do.

The program featured praise and worship songs, ministrations of God’s word by Rev. Fr. Silver Ibeh (Ohamadike) and Pastor Mrs. Ada Ezeka of Rhema Life Ministries as well as Intercessory prayers for peaceful elections, the state government and Imo people. Preaching on the theme of the programme “Open Heavens” Rev. Fr. Ibeh noted that giving to the poor and feeding the hungry was a sure way of receiving heavenly blessings.

High point of the occasion was feeding of over 6,000 persons with cooked rice, drinks and snacks in addition to distribution of raw rice, beans tubers of yams, loaves of bread, baby’s diapers, rolls of tissue, cartons of noddles, biscuits, tins of milk, toiletries cloths and bales of wrappers to the Charity homes and indigent persons.
