According to the government's latest guidance on the going rates for occupation codes, the lower going rate (which applies to you as you got your CoS before April 4) for code 3314 is £35,000 (£17.95ph) while the standard going rate (which applies to applications on/after April 4) is £30,960 (£15.88 per hour)

This is very odd because the lower rate is supposed to be, well, lower than the standard rate and this is the case for all other occupation codes apart from 3314. So I wonder if it's an error and they've somehow mixed up the 2 numbers and the lower going rate should actually be £30,960...

I'm referring to this link : https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/skilled-worker-visa-going-rates-for-eligible-occupations/skilled-worker-visa-going-rates-for-eligible-occupation-codes

Hi Zahra29,

Sequel to the above, I just checked the above link and it seems you were right: seems they made a mistake.

They've changed the lower going rate for occupation code 3314 from 35000 to 25200.

So from my understanding my visa is extendable because it says "the higher of 29000 or the lower going rate" of which my salary is 30902 annually?

Can you please confirm this?

Hi Zahra29,

Please i need your clarification on this.

Please do a starting salary of £34,789 for a job with Occupation Code 3314 qualify for a skilled worker visa.

because I perceive a difference in salary rates for the standard going rate of £30,960 (£15.88 per hour) and the lower going rate of £35,000 (£17.95 per hour) on the government website.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/skilled-worker-visa-going-rates-for-eligible-occupations/skilled-worker-visa-going-rates-for-eligible-occupation-codes

The organisation in question provides sponsorship.

I just wanted to know before accepting the offer.

Please, I'll await your further clarification on this.

Thanks

Sent you a PM.

You wouldn't be asked to leave if your application was refused as you're still on a valid PG visa.

How long do you have left on your PG visa?
If more than 1 year, it might be worth getting a new entrant visa as that would give you around 3 years more?

Would your new employer agree to issuing another CoS indicating new entrant and with revised sponsorship dates?

1 year and 6 months.

Hi Zahra29,

That is exactly the issue I have with regards to my occupation and application.

The salary I have quoted on my CoS is £30902 when application was submitted and according to the transitional rules: it's either £29000 or lower going rate (whichever is higher). In this case, the lower going rate of £35000 is higher than the £30902 quoted on my CoS.

Also, another way I'm looking at this is that I qualify for the new entrant since I am transitioning from my post-study visa which according to the screenshot is below so 0.7 * £35000 = £24000.

I'm just trying to envision how my application will be treated to avoid a refusal.

It's better I withdraw my application and plan with the remaining time on my post study than the application is refused and I am told to leave.

Hi Zahra29,

The occupation is a Prison Officer with SoC code 3314.

30902 pounds is the annual salary quoted on the CoS and the application was submitted on March 14th.

I tried quoting you on the travel thread but Antispambot kept banning me.

You can try this link: https://www.ons.gov.uk/employmentandlabourmarket/peopleinwork/earningsandworkinghours/datasets/regionbyoccupation2digitsocashetable3

What's your occupation? I can help look up your 25th percentile threshold if it helps, but you shouldn't have anything to worry about because the 25th percentile earnings are much lower than the 50th percentile threshold that's just been implemented.

Hi Zahra,

Occupation is Prison Officer with SOC code 3314.

Your response is much appreciated.
Travel / Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by AntiMCU: 11:07am On Apr 07
Zahra29:

The bolded is correct. As you got your COS before April 04, you will not be subject to the new salary thresholds when you extend, change employer etc

You will only need to meet the former skilled worker threshold (which was 26,200 but has been adjusted for inflation to 29,000) or the going rate for your occupation(based on the 25th percentile instead of the new higher 50th percentile)- whichever is higher.

Basically the salary threshold you have to meet when you want to extend or settle, will be a lot lower than the new thresholds. However this exemption will only apply during the transition/grace period and this is due to end on April 4, 2030. You would need to have applied for settlement by this date (which should be fine as it's more than the 5 years required for ILR)

Any applications to extend, switch or settle after April 4, 2030 will come under the new rules that were implemented on April 4, 2024 - even if the skilled worker visa was obtained before April 4, 2024.

Hope this makes sense

Hi Zahra,

Well understood and succinctly explained except at the bold.

Can you please point me to a link containing this 25 percentile of the ASHE data.

Apologies for the much questions, as my application is under progress I need to know how it affects me so I can plan accordingly.

Thank you.

No, you won't be held to the £38,700 threshold on extension if you apply before 4th April

Hi Zahra,

Can you please explain the below image?

It was my initial thinking that the new rules don't apply to applications made before April 4th. This was also confirmed in the case worker file for the Home Office in below links.

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/660577c791a320001182b1f6/Skilled+worker.pdf

However, I have been seeing something about "transitionary rules" which reads below:

"The Home Office has announced transitional salaries which will apply to individuals who already hold a Skilled Worker visa and apply to extend their permission or to change employers in the UK. For these individuals, the minimum salary threshold will be the higher of £29,000 (up from £26,200) or the going rate for the type of role, which will be based on the 25th percentile of the 2023 ASHE data. In most cases, this amounts to a 10-20% increase to the minimum salary threshold. These transitional provisions will apply for applications made by individuals granted their Skilled Worker visa before 4 April 2024, and who are applying before 4 April 2030.

The table below shows examples of the changes in minimum salary thresholds in the various scenarios, all based on a 37.5 hour working week."

Obviously, I fall under the italicized as I applied before the deadline and application is under progress.

So as it seems, it's not as simple as we being assessed under the old rules, there are set of rules which we fall under?

The whole thing seems confusing to be honest.

If this is a sponsored role, he will need to have a skilled worker application submitted before the 4th of April, or the role will need to meet the new £38,700 income requirement

Will the salary threshold be applicable when it is time for extension?

For example, I was given a 1 year CoS this year and I want to renew next year. Will I need to meet the 38700 threshold?

I'm asking because I just put in my application today.

Is the job code still not appearing? It's either a system glitch or they're making changes ahead of the SOL overhaul in April - though it's most likely to be the former.
If the issue is still persisting I would contact the hiring officer/HR to see if they can access it on their end or escalate to home office.

Thank you for your reply.

I escalated to my HR, apparently home office has not added the code online but they gave them a workaround in which I can input the code manually.

I will try it and see what happens.

Hi Team,

Please I'm trying to make an application for a skilled worker's visa however when it comes to selecting the occupational code/job role, it's showing "No results found" and it is currently listed on the Skilled Worker visa: eligible occupations and codes.

I contacted the home office via phone and the lady I spoke to couldn't be off much help: she said something along the lines of "Using another related code for the job role and explaining it in a note at the end of my application".

I also sent a mail to "applyonlinee-support@homeoffice.gov.uk" who couldn't be of much help by telling me "There is currently no reported problems with our online services".

I have sent an email to the HR of the company who issued the CoS explaining the situation.

Please what other ways can I tackle this issue? I need help oh abeg.

Your CoS should have the code on it. Not sure if you are referring to a different code.

The code is on the CoS but not showing on the application portal, that's the issue here.

Lucky you then, happy to hear that.

I do advice people to start making applications for the next higher role once you get one role, admin should be AO I guess, start applying to EO OR HEO if you don’t mind, since you’ve got one already.

Advice lots of friends this way 2 were able to get another higher role before finishing their AO documentation.

Don’t relax ☺️.

Good luck.

Thanks, I won't.

Got a success mail for the role of an Admin Officer at DWP today all thanks to your tips on applying for civil service jobs as a way of getting into the professional sector.

Was beginning to doubt myself and abilities during this job search: hopefully, this is an opportunity I can build on thanks to you.

Meanwhile, I still await feedback on the NHS graduate trainee scheme. Hopefully, that pans out well too.

Meanwhile, guys don't miss out on the abundant opportunities over at the Civil Service job website.

There are a lots of roles available, and some listings are looking to fill a substantial number of positions I'm talking 80, 100, 250, and even 600 spots for some roles.

Don't forget, the more the number of people needed to fill the role, the better your chances are of landing a position

And, for students, while you're studying, consider applying aswell, Many full-time jobs listed also accommodate part-time work, perfect for fitting around your study schedule.

I've seen this firsthand in my previous department, where my colleagues from 9ja and India worked part-time while studying.

A majority of the full-time roles are flexible, allowing you to fulfill your 20 hours while gaining that needed UK work experience.

I believe there might be an option to transition to full-time after your studies (though you might want to double-check that).

If you are very desperate for job I would advise you filter the job grade for Administrative Officer role, hopefully with 3-8 applications you could get one or more.

Is this how the search should be done sir?

Experts in the house, please I need your help oh.

Just got a love phone call from Asda on not being successful for a graduate role.

Said something about me or doing well in the interview: said I talked a little fast, didn't sell my self well and all that.

Wasn't too surprised though, it just confirmed my suspicions that my interview skills has been the culprit on my inability to get a professional job. Don't know, something about my brain disconnected from my mouth when I'm talking in interviews after all the aptitude tests, phone interviews, screening etc

Can anyone point me to an online resource that might be of assistance in helping me understand how interviews are assessed here: way to talk, tone, pace, volume, body posture, being clear and logical enough, what to do if you don't have an answer to the question asked or not prepared for it etc.

I will appreciate.

Thanks.

Thank you all your responses. Much appreciated.

Maybe to put things in context, subject involved will graduate in June with visa to expire in September and has already started job applications.

Subject won't mind non-sponsored professional jobs hence clicking no to be able to at least get a foot in the door and then continue searching for sponsorship jobs from there.

I have seen one or two people use this route.

Will you now or in the future require company sponsorship to be eligible to work for the company?

Some of us have started our job search and wouldn't mind working in the company as we search for sponsored opportunities to gain experience.

In addition to that, I think/know this is a filtering mechanism.

I already clicked "No", anything otherwise, na rejection mail go just follow.
