Jobs/Vacancies / Npower: Before Starting Your Registration, Please Read This! by AoA777: 5:44pm On Jun 26, 2020 |
PLEASE TAKE YOUR TIME TO READ THIS The Npower registration will start by 11:45 pm tonight (26-06-2020) according to the information on the Npower website. After reading this information, you will agree with me that you may not be totally prepared for the registration and if you are prepared, there are some simple mistakes you will avoid if you take your time to read this piece. It is important to take note of the following mistakes that may affect your chances of being selected or that may frustrate you later if you are eventually selected. Don't rush to register. Read this first. 1) BVN It is important that you print out your BVN. This is to know the arrangement and spelling of your name if any mistake. The name on your BVN must match those on your credentials and Identity Card i.e. they must be spelt the same way. Also, the Date of Birth on your BVN must match those on your birth certificate and Identity Card. If you are sure this is the case, you may not need the print out. 2) ARRANGEMENT OF YOUR NAME When filling your name, take note of the order in which it is to be supplied. E.g. (1) SURNAME, FIRSTNAME, OTHERNAME E.g., OJO Kehinde Akin and (2) FIRSTNAME, MIDDLENAME LASTNAME E.g., Kehinde Akin OJO. Your MIDDLENAME is not the same as MAIDEN NAME. MAIDEN NAME is for married women and it is the SURNAME they answered before marriage. 3) ADDRESS Please fill your address to detail E.g., 1 Akinfenwa Street, Off Brewery Bus-Stop, Ajangbadi. If this is not the case, you may be posted far away from your residence and may end up spending substantial amount of your stipend on transport. 4) EMAIL Use email that you remember it password so you would be able to access the link to continue your registration after the initial step on the portal. Also, use a reasonable email not one such as uchetheman@planetmars.com 5)PHONE NUMBER Use the phone number on your BVN. 6) LOCAL GOVERNMENT Please note that there are two different Local Governments to be filled. Local Government of origin and Local Government of residence. For the Local Government of residence, be sure to confirm before selecting. For example, in my area the main road that separate my community from the other side of the same Bus Stop are in different Local Government. Again, don't assume you know. If you are unsure, please ask. 7) BANK ACCOUNT Please supply a Bank Account that is still active not a dormant one. You can go to your Bank to activate your account if it is dormant and ensure you deposit some money into the account. If you opened your Bank Account on the roadside, please go and complete the necessary documentation at the nearest branch. Note that some accounts have restrictions on the amount of money that can enter at any time if the proper documentation is not completed. STAY UPDATED After registration, please ensure you continue following the updates. During the registration for Batch A, some who have completed their registration particularly the very first set of people to register when the stages where many and when it was difficult to register were left out when the portal was upgraded. The information was that some set of people who registered during a certain period should re-register because the portal had been upgraded and the stages of registration reduced. Many of these people were not aware of this development. They were never selected because their registration had been cancelled and their information expunged from the database. I will share with you other useful information during the course of registration. I will create a Whatsapp group for that purpose. Feel free to drop your number. WISHING YOU A SUCCESSFUL REGISTRATION

Education / Re: National Open University Of Nigeria (NOUN) Students by AoA777: 3:47pm On Jun 14, 2020 |
I am indeed very much impressed by the superb innovation from the National Open University of Nigeria on the introduction of virtual examination as a mode of examination. This shows that the National Open University of Nigeria is really for Open and Distant Learning. Afer seeing the video on the procedure to sit for the virtual exam, I cannot but say that I am proud to be a student of the university. Students taking examinations this semester should leverage on this awesome innovation. Of course not many students would be able to meet the requirements of an internet connection of 156kbps, a PC or Laptop with webcam and microphone and an updated browser (Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox) In my opinion, the virtual exam is not very much different from many online exams except that students are being monitored. It isn't also different from the e-exam except that it now involve essay questions. The fear of many students now is that this is a new form of examination that they are not used to coupled with the natural fear that comes with examinations. Again, those who meet the requirements stated should go ahead and save themselves of the travel time to and from exam venue, the stress associated with having to arrive early for exam and waiting for exam and also reduce the chances of contracting covid-19 I will advise that interested students should go through the information on the website provided by the directorate of examinations and assessments on the mode of the virtual examination, how to register for the exam and also watch the video to gain a proper understanding of the process and allay their fears. While the virtual exam may have been occasioned by the emergence of the coronavirus, we should note that the student population of the National Open University of Nigeria is increasing and as such students should start to embrace and feel comfortable with such innovations. We should show that we are really students in that we are ready to learn and embrace new things. Once again, on this great innovation, I am proud to be a student of the National Open University of Nigeria. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Nairaland / General / Re: Is 2020 Really The Beginning Of A New Decade? by AoA777: 11:47am On Jan 01, 2020 |
I think we need to separate counting of ordinary number and talking about period of time from the correct counting of years into decades, centuries and millenia. It is true that there are different calendar systems. But should we start counting from 0 or 1? When we moved counting of years from BCE/BC to CE/AD there was no zero year in between. If we started from one, then 1 to 10 is 1 decade, 1 to 100 is 1 century and 1 to 1000 is 1 millennium. These should translate to the first decade, century and millenium respectively. This is different from the counting of numbers because numbers have no value until we attach something to them. In fact the number zero has no value unless it is mixed with other numbers. When talking about period of time,we make no relevance to decade, century or millenium. For example, saying in the '90s or '80s or '60s doesn't mean we are actually talking about a decade. Someone might understand the '90s to mean '91 to '99 and another might mean it is '91 to '00. It's a relative thing just like saying a decade could mean any period of 10 years. But considering that there was no zero year in the switch from BCE to CE the first decade will be counted from year 1 to year 10, the first century will be counted from year 1 to year 100 and the first millenium from year 1 to year 1000. 1 Like |
