Politics / Re: The Nigerian Problem Has Been Blamed On Government, But "who" Is The Government? by archemedes: 2:39pm On May 17, 2009
@tosh_acer
I have read topics and responses in this forum for two weeks and I can confirm to you that 90% of issues discussed here (politics) are ethnically inclined and has nothing to do with real politics. You notice they are more interested in barking at themselves than profer solution to problems facing Nigeria. I had always guessed them to be teens, for the fact I read some comments yesteday regarding a member who said he made some contributions in the 1970s, I retracted such impressions. This relays the depth of problem Nigeria faces but I want to believe the educated/exposed ones are different. I promise you can only have reasonable contributions to this thread by the likes of biina who is one of the few intelligent people I spend time to read their comments.

@topic
I discussed this issue with friends on facebook a month ago where they blamed nigerian problems on political office holders. Most of the problems in Nigeria is within us; the bashing and unintelligent abuses without the spirit of entertaining criticism evident on NL, the culture of giving N20 to police in the presence of our children threrby instilling the culture of bribery in them, offering N100 to NEPA officials in the presence of little kids thereby telling them to pay their utility bills thru the culture of bribery and corruption, where is the way forward with all these practices?

Until we change our mentality, nothing will work in Nigeria

promise72:

Thanks. Makes u wonder. Nice property, no doubt!. But at N60m, even at the 850k rent it will take you 35years just to recoup ur investment!. Profit is not even there yet.

If we go by the current tenant rate of 600k, that will drop u to 50years! shocked

Even if you increase rent, its still doubtful if you can significantly catch up the lenght of return on investment if you keep in mind that current money should appreciate in later future (if you put in fixed deposit)

Put in the fact that the house will need maintenance, it will need to be thought properly.

One nice of a flat though.

I disagree with you. If you have ever bought property, you will not adopt that analysis of yours. Remember speculative investors? Some people buy properties and tow years on, they sell it double the price. I personally bought a house in a suburb in Abuja last year for N2.5million and I sold it this year for N8million. Its not all about rent my dear. If your idea of buying a house is to collect rent then, you will get old before you break even. 35years is alot of time
Politics / Finally, Nigeria On Track To Achieving Membership Of G20 By 2020 by archemedes: 12:44pm On May 15, 2009
This is one of the most inspiring responses I have read from a Nigerian on NL and I wish to commend @sadboi for this and pray you excel in your feat to contributing selflessly to your country.

This is one of the responses to questions (go to the bottom) put forward by nuzo on the 11th May 2009

I have read your arguements and wish to make few contributions, Nigeria can never get better if the intellectuals continue to run away from Nigeria. I am an Engr with specialisation in Project Mgt. (Civil). My returning  to Nigeria in August is to set up my consulting company. I have also been in talk with the Dean, Faculty of Law in the University of Abuja in the past two months over my interest to lecture their Engineering students on Best Project Management Practices without any fee ie absolutely free, maybe twice in a month. Furthermore, I have also developed a programme which I intend to lunch in Nigeria sometime next year when I settle down. The idea behind the programme is to organise scholarship exams, supervised by myself and some other yet-to-be-selected upright individuals, for the motherless babies, and the successful candidates will be listed and published at my website. The public will have the opportuinity of financing any of the scholars and the arrangement is such that each scholar/benefactor will have direct financial relationship with their financier. Financiers will have the right to opt out by giving ample notice so that we can make alternative arrangements for the scholar.

Presently, I have one scholar in my programme who lives at Enugu and I have not met her, as my sister conducted the test last year. That is all I can afford for now as UK tax system has not the best for savers. I am in my twenties and one of my greatest dream is to offer scholarship, upto University level, to at least fifty Nigerians before I die. The only reward I will ask of these scholars will be to replicate same to orphans. Imagine if thirty out of these fifty replicate the scholarship to at least five people.

There are much more we can do for this country, Nigeria.

I wish to go off topic a bit,
Yesterday was the worst day of my life. I got reported to my Company Manager yesterday by my Team Manager for visiting Nigerian website, nigeriamasterweb.com, during my break and I was cautioned and instructed never to visit any Nigerian website (''scam'') at work again even when I made it clear to them that it is a newspaper site. How worse can it get when people you work with are sent to spy your daily activities without you knowing it.

The nigerian situation is becoming more pathetic by the day. It looks almost irredeemable from all angles.

Day in day out, we hear of how people embezzle the public funds without being questioned. Those appointed to probe the embezzlers end up doing the same thing.
Corruption in the public and private institutions of the country.
Assassinations and assassination attempts.
No attempts to revitalize the fast decaying infrastructures like roads, railways, airline, schools, hospital and most importantly power generating plants. Our refineries are not even in the picture anymore.
Nothing is being done to tackle the ever rising unemployment rate.
Nothing is being done to rehabilitate, reorient and reconstruct the police force.
In most cases, one has to become a heartless wicked crook who will be willing to kill or cheat before you can have a bit of good life in nigeria.
The worst part is that Nigerians have become so used to being intimidated and pushed around by their leaders to the extent that they believe it's a normal life; the "will of god as most will say".
Everybody seem to have lost their common sense of reasoning.

I have been planning on returning home by january 2010 to continue contributing my quota to the nation building, but it seems nobody is working towards this. Its everyone for himself and his family.
With all these ills, I am about coming to a conclusion that my past present and future contributions may not make any difference to nation building, thereby abandoning this project and try to concentrate on my family alone.
On the other hand, while I was living in nigeria, I've never been used to watching things decay without aggressively voicing my opinion, be it to the government, the common man on the street, my friends and any member of my family.

How will I keep my eyes and mouth shut to these decays now that am even more exposed?

Crime / I Was Robbed And Raped After I Lost My Brother&dad by archemedes: 2:31pm On Apr 18, 2009
I lost my father at 8 which made life very difficult for my brother and I. I got admission to study Banking and finance at 17 and went to Lagos from Asaba to show my only brother my admission letter which delighted him. He went to work the next day and lost his life in a ghastly motor accident. With heavy heart, I left for Asaba to inform mum of my brother's death, my bus was attacked and robbed by five armed robbers where all the women were raped including me, a virgin at the time. Three months later I realised I was pregnant and had no option than to abort the baby. Further medical tests revealed that I am HIV positive.
I kept the whole secret to myself while my hatred for men grew by the second. Few years later, a friend asked me to join her in prostitution business in Lagos which I gladly did and have always had unprotected sex since then. Now I can proudly say that I have infected about 4600 men in Lagos in a period of three years.
In her words “When any of my customers wants to have sex with me without using condoms, I usually protest. Then we will strike a bargain and we will do it. He won’t know that he is buying his death with his own money.
“However, there are many who will never have sex without using condoms. But I have a way of dealing with them. When I am having sex with such men, I usually shake my buttocks vigorously so as to burst the condom, and if the condom bursts and the man is carried away, he won’t bother about fixing another condom.”

This is a summary of an article which I read in sun newspaper, posted a copy on http://www.naijapoint.com and wish to let you guys analyse the story. The story is possibly true but I think the number is exaggerated. What this means is that this girl sleeps with 4.4 men on daily basis wihtout a day break, how feasible is that?
