Celebrities / Re: Lizzy Anjorin’s Husband Lateef Lawal, Others In Alleged Land Grabbing Mess by arlomah: 7:55am On Feb 10
The second person isn’t Lizzy. It’s that of the woman who filed petition against Lizzy’s husband.

We4all:
Ayam not understanding that last picture. Is that Lizzy Anjorin? If she is the one, then 'odikwa serious' because that's not the face I usually see in pictures posted on Nairaland.

On a serious note, you guys are making some people popular. I didn't even know her but Nairaland made her popular.
Celebrities / Lizzy Anjorin’s Husband Lateef Lawal, Others In Alleged Land Grabbing Mess by arlomah: 2:09am On Feb 09
The Magistrate Court in Oyingbo Ebute-Metta, Lagos, has taken decisive action following allegations of land grabbing involving one Alhaji Sulaimon of Okun-Ajah, Eti-Osa, Lagos State, and others.

Alhaji Sulaimon stands accused of maliciously damaging properties valued at N15,000,000.00 (Fifteen Million Naira), reportedly intended for an orphanage home and disabled children, owned by Mrs. Faith Ojo, an American-based Nigerian businesswoman.

Despite the efforts of the Zone 2 Police to address the alleged criminal activities, the defendant and his co-conspirators managed to evade capture, while further police investigations are still ongoing.

One of the alleged co-conspirators, Alhaji Lateef Lawal, husband of actress Lizzy Anjorin, purportedly escaped arrest in Ikoyi, Lagos State, on February 5th, 2024, while his associate was apprehended and sent to prison.

It was gathered that the case has already entered the Lagos High Court for civil redress in two separate suits with case numbers: SUIT NO: LD/14340LMW/2023 BETWEEN ALHAJI BOLAJI SULAIMON & 3 ORS VS MRS. FAITH OJO AND SUIT NO: LD/14515LMW/2023 BETWEEN MRS. FAITH OJO VS CHIEF RASHEED OLUKOSI & 7 ORS.

Despite ongoing legal proceedings, the defendants in the Magistrate Court, along with others allegedly associated with Lizzy Anjorin's husband, purportedly continue to engage in land-grabbing activities across Lagos State.

While bail conditions for the suspect accused of malicious damages are yet to be met, his co-conspirator remains in custody at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre.

There are further allegations that actress Liz Anjorin has been discreetly leveraging her celebrity status to secure the release of the suspect from prison.

However, owing to the torrential rainfall which continued till late in the afternoon yesterday, the men who came with bulldozers couldn’t carry out the demolition exercise.
They however returned in the early hours of this yesterday to go ahead with the demolition while some of the occupants of the piece of land had gone in search of their daily bread and the mechanics working on the site yet to resume for work. At that point, most of the structures on the land have already been pulled down with only a few surviving the onslaught by the men who were flanked by military personnel.

Another road user who gave his name as Uchendu said “this can only happen in Lagos or when politicians are involved. We are in traffic because of the irrational thinking of some set of people who feel no once can hold them for their actions.”

Politics / What Does Public Utility Levy Mean? Mixed Reactions Trail New LASG Levy by arlomah: 5:39pm On Apr 19, 2017
Following the announcement by the Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Environment that the State will commence collection of an annual Public Utility Levy, Mainlanders and other Lagosians have expressed their dissatisfaction on the move by the government.

According to the State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Babatunde Adejare who spoke during the 2017 Press Briefing of the State which held yesterday, Tuesday, April 18, 2017, the government has introduced an Environmental Trust Fund which “will provide payment of fees to service providers, concessionaries and contractors under the Cleaner Lagos Initiative.”

Speaking on the new utility levy, he said “a Public Utility Levy (PUL) will be paid annually on all properties in the State into an Environmental Trust Fund.”

He added that “a Waste Service Company has been concessioned to provide waste collection services to residential premises in the State.”

The PUL under the Environmental Trust Fund was established as a funding mechanism to aid in the tackling of crucial environmental issues and the implementation of the Cleaner Lagos Initiative.

Dr. Babatunde Adejare, Lagos State Commissioner for Environment
Meanwhile, Mainlanders have taken to various social media platforms to express their displeasure on the new move by the government. The process was condemned as multiple taxation by the Lagos residents who already have various levies such as Land Use Charge, Waste Management Bill, Water Bill, among others they pay to the government coffers on a regular basis.

According to a Twitter user, Deji Dokun, “First drilling boreholes would be an offense, now Public Utility Levy. What does that even mean?”

Another user, S Adesanwo asked rhetorically that “Pls after this, would I still pay a separate fee for waste disposal, water, still generate power and hire security men??”

To Olusegun Popoola, “this is not a good idea. It is completely counter intuitive.” He added that “we are watching this space. These multiple taxes are definitely not the way to go. What does Public Utility Levy mean?”

Black Beard sees the new move as “one burden too many after paying for land use charge, LAWMA, PHCN, water bill, etc, what are the elites paying for in Lagos?”

However, a user, Nigeria Reports opines that “you are doing great works. Do not introduce another #TAX on properties. Ikoyi, VI, Gbagada, GRA are yet to pay LAND USE CHARGES, make them pay.”

He added that “this is major problem of Nigeria, when the economy is down, government officials don’t know that they ought not to introduce or increase tax. Reduce the arm- robber salaries of political office holders and see if the required excess fund won’t show up. Instead you still want to take.”

To Seyi Ajayi, “This can not pass if we,really engage our legislators. They will do that because they know we shall absorb it. In Nigeria government puts rope on the citizen’s neck not to eat while they finish the food.”

News reaching us at InsideMainland has it that the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat along Beach Road, Ikorodu, is likely to give way for the construction of the popular shopping complex, SHOPRITE.

This was exclusively gathered by Oriwu Sun (a leading community newspaper in Ikorodu) that the new development will pave way for more investors in the state.

But it is not so clear when the construction work will commence or whether the developers will first build a new one (an alternative secretariat) to be constructed on the large expanse of land at Ita-Elewa opposite Ikorodu Post Office before pulling down the council Secretariat at Beach Road or if the workers will be relocated to other government structures in Ikorodu.

What is clear according to Oriwu Sun’s reliable source is that serious negotiations had been going on at Alausa between the State Government and stakeholders from Ikorodu.

Meanwhile it should be noted that there was a hassle over the land few years ago between the incumbent Oba Kabir Shotobi and the Sole Administrator of Ikorodu council, Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye, before the matter was dragged to the Ministry of Justice ..... Read more here: http://insidemainland.com/2017/04/11/ikorodu-council-secretariat-give-way-shoprite-complex/

Crime / 15 Trucks Of Soldiers Deployed After Deadly Militants Attack In Ikorodu by arlomah: 8:31am On Apr 10, 2017
There is currently palpable fear among residents of Yewa community in the Isawo axis of Ikorodu, Lagos, after militants stormed the area in the early hours of Sunday, April 9, 2017 to wreak havoc.
During the gruesome attack by the militants, five policemen and two soldiers were murdered while other residents suffered varying degree of injuries.
InsideMailand gathered that the gallant officers who died during the attack had acted on information of a planned kidnap by the militants in Woodland Estate, Yewa-Isawo. The officers mobilized men to the community to ensure the safety of residents who were already gripped by fear as a result of the planned attack by the militants.
However, the security operatives were killed following a shoot-out between the officers and the militants who laid ambush for the officers.
Speaking on the incident, the Chairman, Community Development Community (CDC), Ikorodu West, Alhaja Kudirat Olukoga-Dalemo told InsideMainland that the residents were gradually adjusting to life without attacks before the militants struck Sunday morning. “We have lived in peace for few months now before the attack by the militants at midnight. Although there was tension few weeks ago after residents sighted the militants on the waterways, we never envisaged the attack because of police presence and regular patrol in the community. People adjusted to leaving their homes when the day is clear and return before dusk.”
She continued that “the kidnap attempt was foiled by the police although people were injured during the attack. Seven people died and they include five policemen and two soldiers who were mobilized to the area to protect us. The others that were injured were rushed to the hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.”
Another resident who preferred anonymity told InsideMainland that the militants had continued to strike fear in the residents who were recently returning to the area following the spike in attacks in 2016. “The height of the attacks was in 2016 when the militants strike with reckless abandon. If only you knew how they treated us in the past. The militants once visited a neighbor who watched them kill his livestock like goats and chickens in broad day light. They dared him to report to the police because they threatened to hurt his family if he did. They turned us to strangers in our homes and they became the landlords. The attacks got to a point that we couldn’t do anything because the security agencies failed to act.”

Politics / Gbagada Residents Contribute To Fix Their Dilapidated Roads (Photo) by arlomah: 9:17am On Apr 07, 2017
While the rainy season in other climes brings forth a period of relief and cheers to residnets due to its positive effect on their lives, same is not the case of residents of Peace Estate in the Soluyi-Gbagada axis of Lagos.

This is because once it rains, the roads leading to the estate, the ones in the community as well as other adjoining ones turns into a nightmare for residents who use the roads to eke out a living.

Connecting roads to the Peace Estate estate such as Powerline, Anipole, and more are in terrible shape and becomes an eyesore during rainfall. Similarly, roads inside the estate such as Ola Adebiyi, Liverpool Avenue, Deji Olamiju, and Jacob Nwajota, are partly dilapidated as a result of lack of proper drainages with some partly eroded.

To forestall any difficulty during the looming raining season, executives of the estate however took a decision to ensure their roads are in proper shape ahead of the season. As a result, the Peace Estate CDA executives urged residents of the estate to contribute the sum of Ten Thousand Naira (N10,000) to enable them find a lasting solution to their dilapidated roads.
To ensure residents have adequate knowledge about the funds, the Estate CDA group printed banners placed at strategic positions leading to the estate.

What is however shocking is that these set of individuals resident in the estate are .....

Politics / Popular Agege LG Chairmanship Aspirant Speaks On His Decision To Step Down by arlomah: 8:36am On Apr 05, 2017
Less than a week after InsideMainland exclusively reported that Agege Local Government chairmanship aspirant, Mr. Sola Osolana has stepped down and agreed to run as a running mate to another aspirant, Mr. Ganiyu Egunjobi, the popular politician has reacted to the report.
According to Osolana who is prominent in Agege community for his philanthropic nature, the decision to step down and run as Vice Chairman to Egunjobi who is also from the All Progressives Congress (APC) is in the interest of the party.
“If you know me well enough, you would know that I have been in Agege politics for a long time even before I decided to run as Chairman. Now that I have made public my decision not to run as Chairman, that still would not change the drive I have to make a change in my community,” he said.
When queried further, Osolana stressed that he opted to step down owing to his loyalty to the party chieftains. “I have elders (chieftains) and people I look up to in Agege politics. Before I decide on anything, I seek their opinion. When these people advised it is best I shelve my plans for now, I think that is the best decision to take. I know I have a long way to go in politics. So, I need to listen to these elders if I also want people to take me serious when that time comes.
