Business / Re: Opening A Pharmacy by asolacool(m): 5:13pm On Apr 30, 2007
i personally think you need 2 more million to run a proper phamacy store. but if you are talking about a medcine store or chemist, you don't need up to a million. but phamacy, you need up to 4 million naira.

hope i haven't jump by saying the truth

It will be really nice if the 4million is available to start. But i assure u, with a million naira u can open a RETAIL pharmacy. And u can take that to the bank. U see, all depends on what u have ur expertise and of course, ambition.
GOOD LUCK.

I would not advise you to start a retail pharmacy if you are not a pharmacist. The law does not approve for some reasons which i would want Seun to take note of. But as a non-pharmacist you can open a pharmacy for wholesale (distribution) or importation. The laws governing these are clearly spelt out by the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN). Among others it involves you having a pharmacist on the board of the business (the % is not important) as reflected in form CO7. Also a superintendent pharmacist will have to process your application with PCN. Details of requirements for such registration i can send to whoever is interested.

PCN is charged with the following responsibilities among other:
Setting standards for those seeking to become pharmacist
Laying down the code of conduct desirable for the practice of the profession
Inspectorate activities
Disciplining erring pharmacist
Registering pharmacist
Maintaining a register of PATIENT AND PROPRIETARY MEDICINE LICENSE(POPULARLY KNOWN AS "CHEMIST"wink

Now, a retail pharmacy (quite different from a "chemist"wink is where you can purchase and obtain information about drugs including dosage, possible side effects and general counsel on drugs and disease process because the operator is required to have undergone training for such purpose. IT IS NOT A PLACE FOR DRUG CASH AND CARRY (pls escuse my choice of words). It is a place where vital health issues are solved. Such sensitive and important responsibilities can not be left in the hands of just anybody. That is why Law chambers are opened and run only by lawyers and the same way hospitals by doctors. To maintain this sanity PCN requires that ONLY PHARMACISTS should open a retail pharmacy so that if any problem arise as a result the owner (the pharmacist) can be held responsible by the Council.

2million is quite sufficient to start a modern retail pharmacy. Most of the tips given already are quite o.k except that registration with NAFDAC is not required. The Agency plays only a complimentary role in the running of the business. For instance, only drugs registered by NAFDAC can be offered to patients in a pharmacy.

Health / Re: Has Anyone Tried Urine Therapy? by asolacool(m): 7:06pm On Apr 13, 2007
Yes, i do practice urine therapy 'cos it works. For starters it is the best aftershave a man can use. I am a living testimony.
But before we all get carried away there is a lot of difference between urine and faeces. Urine is formed by ultrafilteration of the blood in the bowman capsule. And your blood cannot be dirty and still maintain the proper pH that is needed for your survival. Also the amniotic fluid in which the foetus is "suspended" is mixed with the foetal urine. The baby drinks it throughout the foetal stage. But faeces is a different matter. Faecal materials are remains of digested/partly digested/undigested food which had been acted on by bacteria in the large and small intestine. It is definitely toxic.
Urine therapy is a very effective form of remedy which works more like immunisation but not entirely like it. To use urine several "don'ts" must be observed:
For example no drugs (cos of metabolites).
If anyone is interested contact me ( sola1371pharm@yahoo.com). Like i said i do use my urine. Or better still there is a book by LOUIS ARMSTRONG which is quite informative.
