Can someone go for Ph.D without having a masters degree? bracelum:
Okay
To be completely honest, that degree is not very lucrative in the job market. I mostly advise people who go for such degrees to do a Ph.D. where you won't have to pay lots of money for tuition. If you can get into Columbia for a master's, you can as well get into their Ph.D. program. All you have to do is to network more with current and ex-Ph.Ds students to introduce you to some professors that will take you. Once they make that introduction, your test scores and your GPA won't matter. What will matter is whether the professor likes you or not.
Except you are financially capable of handling the bills, I won't advice you spend that much on the degree. You can relax and network for a PhD next year. Check other strong brands like Yale, UChicago, Berkeley and UCLA. Network your ass out and I'm sure you will get a solid PhD offer by this time next year.
Don't be in a hurry. No be by how fast. Yankee no dey run.
Any of those aforementioned schools (or one of the DC powerhouses - Georgetown and George Washington University) will place you in an international organization (UNICEF, UN) after PhD graduation. |
