At least 20 people were killed in a shooting outside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino after a gunman unloaded hundreds of rounds of ammo on a Las Vegas country music festival on Sunday night. Witnesses said shots were fired from an elevated hotel position. More than 100 people were wounded. There were 30,000 people in attendance at the event.

The Strip has been completely shut down after the sniper opened fire on the Route 91 Harvest country music festival from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay resort and casino, located across a junction from the event. Police confirmed that one suspect had been killed, and said at 12:38am that they believed there were no more shooters. It's not clear how many shooters there had been.


Those listening to police scanners reported that the shooter was killed after cops breached a room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay. SWAT teams were seen heading towards the resort in armored vehicles earlier.



Police said they are also seeking a woman they named as Marilou Danley, described as a companion of the suspect.



According to LVMPD Sheriff Joe Lombardo, Off-duty police officers are among the dead. Their identities have not been released. Two police officers are also being treated for injuries with one officer in critical condition and the other has minor injuries.

There had been reports of other incidents at different locations along the Las Vegas strip, but police say they believe the dead suspect acted alone.

University Medical Center spokeswoman Danita Cohen said the Las Vegas hospital is taking in "several" people with gunshot wounds, adding that 14 of the wounded were in a critical condition.

Many hotels on the Las Vegas strip close to the scene remain on lockdown. Parts of Las Vegas Boulevard were shut as armed police arrived at the scene of the attack.

People have been sheltering in hotels, restaurants and at Las Vegas McCarran airport. Some flights were diverted after news of the incident

A woman identified as Chioma Fidelis , has been arrested for selling her baby, Favour Fidelis, in exchange for half a bag of rice, chairs, provisions and some bags of cement for her to build a house.
The young mother who hails from Ehime Mbano local government area of Imo confessed to the crime when she was paraded along with other suspects by Mr Chris Ezike, the commissioner of police in Imo state.
The commissioner of police revealed that the arrest of the child traffickers was done on Monday, July 10, 2017 by some members of the surveillance team. Fidelis was arrested along with forty other suspects.

A WAEC candidate from Enugu State, Ali Cynthia Chineche has made 9 A1 in all 9 subjects she sat for in the just released West African Senior School Certificate Examiniation, WASSCE.

A Malaysian High Court on Sunday, 28th of May sentenced a Kenyan woman to death after she was found guilty of trafficking methamphetamine four years ago.
The mother of three was arrested on November 30, 2013, at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport after arriving from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Malaysian Daily Express reports that Rose Achieng Ojala had stuffed three capsules of the drug into her private part and swallowed another 68 capsules, all weighing about 400gm.
On the day she was arrested, an Immigration officer noticed that she was behaving suspiciously during the regular luggage inspection.
While she was being searched, the immigration officer found three capsules of methamphetamine weighing more than 20g in her underwear.
The woman, who claimed she was pregnant, was later taken to the Serdang Hospital, where an X-ray examination revealed that she had swallowed 68 capsules of the drug weighing more than 380gm.
She confessed to the immigration officer that it was her boyfriend who had stuffed the capsules into her private parts before she boarded the flight.

It was also reported that the single mother who allegedly suffered from Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), had fainted before the proceedings and had to be taken into the courtroom in a wheelchair.

When she was in Primary Six, two visitors came calling at Immaculata Onuigbo’s school in Enugu. They were from the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Foundation, Abuja.
On Friday night, she bagged six awards including the Afrinvest (West Africa) Award for Academic Excellence that includes a paid internship at any of the company’s subsidiaries.

But the valedictorian’s journey to the zenith of academic excellence did not come without challenges.

She recalls the days in secondary school when she’d be left in tears while watching the retreating back of her parents, in Abuja, back to Enugu, while she continued on her way back to Yola.

“The first challenge was language barrier,” she said.

The AUN uses the American grading system where 4.0 is the highest possible Cumulative Grade Points Average (CGPA). To finish Summa Cum Laude (the equivalent of the Nigerian First Class: 4.50 – 5.00), a student has to score between 3.9 and 4.0.

Ms. Onuigbo scored 3.98.

She said her ambition is to be a university professor.

The Oyo state police command yesterday paraded a self acclaimed pastor, Isaiah Alimi, who was recently apprehended with Human Skull. Isaiah who claims to be the founder of a church in the Algbado area of Lagos state, said he found the human skull in a building currently undergoing refurbishment in the Pakoto area of Ogun state.
According to him, he planned to bury the skull on his landed property in Ijaiye so as to scare robbers from the area.
"I did not exhume any dead body. I was going to bury it on my site around Ijaye in order to scare away robbers who have sacked seven towns in the area. I planned to have another church on the site where I wanted to bury the human skull. I had yet to reach my site when police stopped me and found the skull in my possession. I was also caught with other charms. My father was a herbalist and he taught me how to prepare some charms. I did not plan to harm anyone with it or prepare money ritual.” he said.

No fewer than 800 houses have been destroyed and almost 40 people injured with about 8 of them hospitalized with bone fractures, in the aftermath of rainstorm which wrecked havoc in some major parts of Maiyama Local Government area of Kebbi State.
The storm which was accompanied by heavy wind also destroyed electricity poles , transformers, water and schools facilities and this rendered several people in the area homeless as many of the victims affected by the disaster have sought refuge in their neighborhood within he community.

Discovered by a combined team of officials on assessment, they described the incident as a terrible experience as many people in the community have been affected.

Head, Nema Sokoto operations office, Mallam Suleiman Muhammad lamented that "about 800 houses were destroyed and slot of health, water, school and electricity facilities were completely damaged.



He also stated that means of livelihood like animals and properties severely affected following the rainstorm.

Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday demonstrated before the Federal High Court in Lagos how a total of N677,6777,085 was allegedly diverted from the coffers of the Nigerian Air Force between March 2014 and April 2015, The Nation reports.

According to the agency, the fund was moved in several tranches into the Ecobank account of a company identified as Hebron Housing and Properties Company Ltd.

An investigator with the anti-graft agency, Tosin Owobo, stated this at the resumed trial of a former Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Adesola Amosu (retd.), and 10 others for an alleged fraud of N22.8bn.

Those standing trial alongside Amosu are a former Chief of Accounts and Budgeting at the NAF, Air Vice Marshal Jacob Adigun; and a former Director of Finance and Budget, Air Commodore Olugbenga Gbadebo.

The EFCC alleged that the defendants diverted N22.8bn, belonging to the Nigerian Air Force, using a number of companies.

The said companies were also joined as defendants in the charge.



They are Delfina Oil and Gas Ltd., McAllan Oil And Gas Ltd, Hebron Housing and Properties Company Ltd., Trapezites BDC, Fonds and Pricey Ltd., Deegee Oil and Gas Ltd., Timsegg Investment Ltd., and Solomon Health Care Ltd.

The 11 defendants were arraigned before Justice Mohammed Idris on June 29, 2016 but they pleaded not guilty to the 26 counts pressed against them.

Owobo is the second witness to be called by the EFCC in a bid to prove its allegations against the defendants.

Led in evidence on Thursday by the prosecuting counsel for the EFCC, Rotimi Oyedepo, Owobo, who was armed with the statement of account of Hebron Housing and Properties Company Ltd., gave a step-by-step account of how the Ecobank account of the company was credited with a N677,677,085 by the NAF.

The transactions, according to him, took place between March 5, 2014 and ended on April 7, 2015.

The funds, he said, were either transferred from the Nigerian Air Force Special Emergency Operations account or from the HQ NAF Mininstry of Defence account into the Ecobank account of Hebron Housing and Properties Company Ltd.

In his earlier testimony of January 25, 2017, Owobo had told the court how the NAF account was credited by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency sometime in 2014 for security operations.

He said rather than use the money for the intended purpose, the funds were diverted by Amosu and others using a number of companies including Housing and Properties Company Ltd.

Justice Idris adjourned till Friday to rule on the admissibility of a letter written to the EFCC by the United Bank for Africa in respect of Solomon Health Care Ltd., which was also listed as one of the companies used to divert the NAF funds.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari appears to be winning the war against Boko Haram because the insurgents are more sympathetic to the All Progressives Congress (APC)led administration, than the group was to his own administration.
He made the revelation in the new book, titled “Against the Run of play: How an incumbent President was defeated in Nigeria,” written by the Editorial Board chairman of ThisDay Newspapers, Olusegun Adeniyi.
Jonathan, who insisted that his government did its best as far as the fight against Boko Haram was concerned, further noted that while the insurgents saw him as an “infidel, “ they see Buhari as one of “their own.”
He also alluded to the fact that former President Olusegun Obasanjo has no moral authority to blame him for not ending the Boko Haram insurgency, when the former president, too, had no answer to the Niger Delta militancy throughout the eight years he spent as the country’s president. “What is happening now with regards to Boko Haram was the same thing that happened to me regarding Niger Delta militants in 2007.

“I did my best and so did the military, although I can understand if there is greater commitment to the fight now than in the past. “In my time, Boko Haram said they were fighting an infidel. There is a feeling of ‘our man is there now’ that you cannot discountenance, “ Jonathan said. On Obasanjo’ s charge that the immediate past President never took the Boko Haram fight serious, Jonathan again said” I recall that immediately he won the election in 1999, before he was even sworn in, Obasanjo had visited Niger Delta to hold meetings.

“Meanwhile, the first time I would be meeting Asari Dokubo, Ateke Tom and other militants was years later in Aso Rock at a meeting (Obasanjo) called to find a solution to the problem at a period I was Deputy Governor in Bayelsa state. Despite all those efforts, Obasanjo failed to resolve the problem until late Yar’Adua came with the Amnesty Programme. Should we then hold Obasanjo accountable for the Niger Delta problem?
“The allegation that I didn’t care (about the Chibok girls) was false. Immediately I was alerted, I called the military and security chiefs for a briefing after tasking them to get to the root of the matter. Information was initially hazy and there were things that did not add up.
“More than 200 girls were reportedly abducted from different hostels and then put on an open trailer that had no railings.
“In the same trailer, according to reports, Boko Haram fighters loaded foodstuff. The girls were said to have been abducted by people claiming to be soldiers.

The military people were on ground and I relied on the information I could get from them. Of course I cared and charged them to find the girls, but every effort (we made) was twisted against me to score cheap political points.
“When the military and security chiefs demanded for more time to deal with insurgency, the reasons were genuine. As at February 2015, it would have been very difficult to vote in Gombe, Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States. But the moment all arms and ammunition that had been ordered finally arrived, the military was able to use them to degrade the capacity of Boko Haram to the level in which they posed no threat to the election, “ Jonathan, who insisted he did his best as far as the fight against Boko Haram was concerned, declared.

Justice O. Efreti Abang of the Federal High Court sitting in Asaba, Delta State has ordered that Mrs. Fidelia Omoile , a serving Independent National Electoral Commission’ s ( INEC) official in Isoko- South Local Government Area of Delta State, be remanded in prison custody following her arraignment on Monday, on a two- count amended charge, bordering on conspiracy and money laundering, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Omoile was docked for allegedly collecting the sum of N112,480,000.00 (One Hundred and Twelve Million, Four Hundred and Eighty Thousand Naira), as a bribe during the countdown to the 2015 Presidential election.

She was among the over 100 INEC Officials that allegedly collected part of the $115million (N23bn) disbursed by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison- Madueke, during the countdown to the 2015 presidential election.

Omoile was arrested on 11 April, 2016 following an intelligence received by the EFCC on the activities of some INEC Staff, who allegedly connived with some Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), in defrauding the Federal Government huge sums of money, running into millions of Naira.



She allegedly received N112.4million as bribe during the 2015 general election.

Count one of the charge read: That you Fidelia Omoile on or about the month of March, 2015 at Asaba within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did conspire among yourselves to receive cash payment in the sum of N 112,480,000.00 (One Hundred and Twelve Million, Four Hindered and Eighty Thousand Naira only) exceeding the statutory limit without going through a financial institution and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 18 (a) of the Money laundering (Prohibition) Act 2012 as amended and punishable under Section 15 (3) and (4) of the same Act.

Count two of the charge read: That you Fidelia Omoile on or about the month of March, 2015 at Asaba within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did receive cash payment in the sum of N112,480,000.00 (One Hundred and Twelve Million, Four Hindered and Eighty Thousand Naira only) exceeding the statutory limit without going through a financial institution and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1 (a) of the Money laundering ( Prohibition) Act 2012 as amended and punishable under Section 16 (b) and (4) of the same Act.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to her. In view of her plea , prosecution counsel, Sadiq Hussaini, asked for a trial date and sued that the defendant be remanded in prison custody.

However, counsel to the defendant, K. O Obamogie, made an oral application for bail of his client and urged the court to grant his prayers. Hussaini opposed his prayers.

In his ruling, Justice Abang turned down the defendant’ s application for bail, directing that the aplication be filed formally.

He also adjourned the matter to 6 June, 2017 for hearing and ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison custody pending the determination of her bail.

About three persons have been killed after soldiers and policemen clashed in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital on Wednesday, Punch Metro reports.
Many persons, including soldiers, policemen and civilians were injured in the deadly clash between the two groups.
The whole Damaturu was as if it was a theatre of war as continuous gunshots and sounds of heavy artillery were heard, with many residents avoiding the streets.
Punch reported that financial institutions, Government establishments and people who opened for the day’s business were forced to close early because of the fight.
A police squadron commander was said to have been abducted by the soldiers during the fight. Up and untill the writing of this report, the cause of the fight had yet to be known.
Many of the security personnel and civilians who sustained injuries were seen at the accident and emergency ward of the State Specialists’ Hospital, Damaturu, receiving treatment when our correspondent visited.
Three corpses of security personnel were equally seen deposited at the hospital morgue, but both the military and the police said they were yet to confirm the casualty figure.

Meanwhile, a security meeting between the military, the police and the DSS which is chaired by the the deputy governor, Abubakar Aliyu, was held behind closed doors at the Government House, Damaturu after the ceasefire.
Speaking to newsmen at the end of the meeting the commander of the 27 Task Force Brigade, Buniyadi, General Aminu Bande, said a committee had been set up to investigate the matter and ensure justice was done.
“The cause of the clash for now is not the issue because it will affect the work of the investigation team.
“The committee will ensure that the officer found guilty for this clash will be seriously dealt with,” The General said.
The Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Sumonu Abdulmaliki, said the issue has been resolved, but a panel to investigate the matter has started its work and that they’ve made progress on the resolution of the crisis.
“The meeting has ended well and conflict like this is normal and we have made a lot of progress in ensuring that issues like this are averted in the future”
The Army General and the Police Commissioner both called on the residents to go about their normal businesses and to also have confidence in the security forces as they would emerge stronger in the fight against the common enemy, the Boko Haram.
The state commissioner of Police while speaking on the abduction of the squadron commander of Mopol 41 in Damaturu the state capital said, the officer, CSP Dauda Fika, had been released and currently being examined at an undisclosed hospital in Damaturu.

Police attached to the Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, Morocco on Sunday night, April 9th, arrested a Nigerian national for his alleged involvement in cocaine trafficking.

The 32-year-old suspect, who had abandoned a luggage at a reception area of a hotel located in the international transit station of the airport, was arrested at the boarding area, the DGSN pointed out in a statement.

After searching the luggage, the police discovered 53 capsules containing 1.2 kg of cocaine, the same source added.
The airport scanner also detected extra capsules hidden in the suspect’s stomach, which required his transfer to the Ibn Rochd hospital in Casablanca, the statement noted.

The accused, coming from Sao-Paulo (Brazil) and heading for Freetown (Sierra Leone), was remanded in custody under medical supervision to remove the pills, before conducting a judiciary investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has reacted to claims by former Chief of Army Staff, Major – General Ishaya Bamaiyi (rtd) that he (Obasanjo) wanted to kill him.
According to the NATION, Obasanjo debunked the claim at his Hilltop residence on Presidential Hilltop Estate, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, during questions and answers session when he hosted the Correspondents Chapel of the Ogun State chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists.

''Who the hell is he that I would want to kill him? Kill him for what? To achieve what?,'' Obasanjo queried.

“That I wanted to kill him (Bamaiyi)? What of the people he killed? My government did not plot to kill him. My government asked him to answer to those that were alleged to have been killed by him and that is legitimate.
