please I need some guidance. I paid my visa appointment fee via the gt mobile platform and I was emailed a "gt collections" receipt with my details and transaction reference, does that suffice to take to the embassy?
Yes

Hello everyone, so am kind of new here.

I have an offer for a graduate program (mph) at University of Alabama at Birmingham with a January 2021 start date.

Please is it still possible for me to apply for a US visa to resume physically in January 2021 at UAB?

PS: I don’t have my I-20 yet

I really would appreciate suggestions and thoughtful answers.
Yes,it is possible.
If the embassy is still accepting electronic I-20,take the necessary steps and get it sent to you through email.
If they are not accepting it anymore, you can request for your I-20 to be mailed to you. I got everything done in a week(from requesting to getting it delivered).
When you get your I-20,pay your SEVIS fee and then book an appointment. Some people are still getting December appointment dates.
Some have not gotten yet.

*LOCATION: USA EMBASSY ABUJA*
*DATE: 23/11/2020*
*WINDOW 8*

I arrived to the embassy by 7:30am and myself appointment was 10am. On the avenue, those hustlers of money stopped me and said I should wait for them to check my documents and see if it wasn't complete and I insisted that it was complete before I saw up to 5 persons there who were asked to go and get 5x5 passport size , where as I am with 2x2. I allowed them to check my documents and they said I would have to reprint my DS 160 confirmation, showed me the one the embassy would need and I agreed. I asked how much and he said #4,500 and passport #2,500 which summed to be #7,000. I began bargaining with them and finally gave them #4,000 for both respectively.

I went inside there and do the needful processes . Now the interview proper which was around 9:30am.

*FINDINGS:*

I found out that one should fee relax and be confident enough. Have it in mind that two things, one much happen today because you have come and no going back, it will help you relax your mind. Dress like a student you are.

Lastly, pray fervently because God never changes. Even as I entered there, I said to myself self , US embassy, here I come and I will never go out with my an approved visa and I said 3 hail Mary prayer. Even as the VO was typing endlessly, I continued to say "Hail Mary in my heart".

I pray that those having their interview ahead will got approval message.

Just a quick question: I thought the US embassies in Nigeria are open. I tried to book an appointment in Lagos and Lo! no date available.\

Has Anyone noticed this? Please what is the way forward?
It means no date is available presently in Lagos. A lot of people are having the same issue. You can try Abuja. Dates here could be for April though.

My people, a quick one. Is it obligatory that my sponsor has to bear my surname. Also, can the funding come from a relation in USA? Which is preferable? A sponsor in Nigeria or USA?
(1) It is not obligatory. People use their maternal uncles with different surnames.
(2) People have used both and got their visa approved.

Hi guys, I just got admitted to Michigan Missouri University. No schorlaship or Assistantship. Am supposed to go by January but I've not booked at all, is it too late to book as I don't know if I can get a appointment before January or I should defer the admission till August?
It is not too late to book if you still want to join Spring2021. You can start preparing by requesting for your I-20 and then pay your SEVIS fee. You can pay for your visa and start filling your Ds160 form. Then, proceed to CGI website to book an appointment. The dates that are currently available are April days but people are getting their appointments rescheduled through emergency appointment. You can start the process now.

Hi guys,
Must my ds 160 confirmation page print out be colored?
Also do I need passport photograph since my passport upload was successfully and visible on my ds-160 form?

Someone used black and white Ds160 form on the day i was interviewed but most of us went there with coloured one.
Passport was only requested from people that were unable to upload one on their Ds160 form. If I were you,I would go with everything.

Can Someone help answer this please
A guy was in your shoe when I went for my interview.
The V.O asked him the number of schools he applied to and to name them. He applied to four schools and the one that gave him admission happened to be in his aunty's city. The V.O said something about them being in the same area and the guy corrected him that not all, that one is in another state. The V.O asked him if he would be staying with his aunty and he said he would be staying there till he gets his accommodation sorted out. His visa was approved. He was going for his undergraduate and his mother was sponsoring him.

Good day Nairalanders, has anyone have Lagos office on his DS-160 and was able to interview at Abuja? If no, what can be done? That's my case currently. My DS-160 reads Lagos office but my interview is in abuja next week. Urgent plsssss!
Someone shared a transcript recently. He was interviewed in Lagos and his Ds-160 stated Abuja. They changed it for him at the embassy but since your interview is still next week, you can retrieve your Ds160 and make the necessary corrections but if you have submitted, just fill another one and update it on your visa page.

Hi guys. My I-20 shows program start and end dates to be January 2021 to December 2025 (PhD). That’s roughly 4 years. On my DS-160, can I fill in ‘4 years’ as my intended length of stay in US please?
Thank you
That's five years na. January 2026 would make it five years. It's just a month short of 5 years.

Kudos to everyone on this thread for sharing very important information that has help more people than you can imagine, God bless you all. I found the information below on my Appointment Confirmation (F1 Visa) and need some clarifications.

IMPORTANT NOTICE for K1 Visa Applicants:If you have scheduled an interview appointment for a K1 visa, please ensure that you complete your Medical Examination Report (from any of our panel physicians) and obtain your Police Character
Certificate before the scheduled date for the visa interview. NO APPLICANT WILL BE ALLOWED INTO THE CONSULATE
VISA HALL WITHOUT A VALID MEDICAL EXAMINATION REPORT.

Do I need to have Medical Examination Report as an F1 Visa applicant before I can be allowed into the consulate for my interview? If yes, is there a stipulated clinic where it should be done?

Any other information that will be of assistance in this regard will be appreciated, thanks.
You do not need medical report for your F1 interview.

Good day. Please i want to find out if Electronic I-20 is acceptable or it has to be couriered from my School in the US. And when you got your Visa application form from the bank. What date were you given for Visa interview date. Also for SIVES Fee. How much is the equivalent in Naira.
Thank you for your response

Electronic I-20 is acceptable at the embassy for your interview.
You would have to pay for your visa before you can book an appointment. It does not come with the payment, you schedule the appointment separately on their site.
The SEVIS fee is $350 and the rate depends on who is paying it for you.

Did you use the I 20 sent via your email or you shipped yours? If you shipped, how did you make your payments please?

Does this mean that, when applying for emergency visa, I will be given the privilege to choose location?

Congratulations!

Did you use the I 20 sent via your email?
The form reads "Lagos Emergency or so"
I used the one e-mailed to me. It was even black and white not coloured. I got the one mailed to me too. I paid over #30,000 to get it a week ago using Eshipglobal but I didn't use it even though I took it with me.

Bro I legit remember all this conversation with the VO. Immediately, you told him only one school gave you admission and he said, I see the reason you chose the school. I was right behind you praying for you. Cos your shalaye about why you chose the school was not making sense to him. Remember, you thought he was asking what he can find on the website and then you started with off with the school was founded in....he quickly cut you and said. What he cannot find on the website.

Immediately, I started thinking of what I’d say if was asked that question. I particularly paid attention to people’s interview that when it was my turn someone had to even tap me cos it was more like learning from their conversation.

I saw that the VO was returning everybody’s passport I was first perplexed cos I thought if your visa was approved, he’ll keep the passport.
But I saw that most people were issued the white paper.

Then I heard him say, I intend to approve your visa but you’ll have to bla bla...I was like Ogbeni Intend bawo?

It was all good!

I was particularly impressed with the lady who’d be studying applied mathematics. Her interview was superb in my opinion. Then another lady who was going to study geology and her employer would be sponsoring. (I could even share their own transcript )

My visa was approved too. I’ll share my transcript later
Ooooooh
You were right behind me truly.
But before you came in,the woman said they were expecting 57 people. Before I said,we were not more than 25 or so.
All good
Congratulations bro

57 bawo ?

We were around 30

Cos I noticed 16 people were ahead of me and about 13 were behind me. There was a list of all those invited. It was one and a half A-4 paper full with very bold letterings. We may have exceeded 30 slightly but I’m super sure we weren’t up to 40.
The woman that was taking us in said they were expecting 57. You can ask anybody among the first nine people that came in.
