seyewest: Do you know how long the administrative processing might take on an average? I received an acknowledgement email yesterday stating that my email has been forwarded to the appropriate department. |

Dear All, I need your opinion. I applied for the nonimmigrant visa to the US this week and was asked to provide additional documents. The Consular officer was clear that he would have given me the visa if I had shown him the receipt of the birth of my kids, which I did not have with me at the time of the interview. I was given a white paper, and my passport was returned to me. I asked the Consular officer if I could send the scanned documents via e-mail, and he obliged me by providing the appropriate e-mail on the white paper. I have since sent the documents via email but still awaiting feedback. To my questions: how will they get back to me? E-mail or phone? How long will it take for them to get back to me? How will they receive my passport? How will I pay the reciprocity fee? Thank you all for all the good that you all do on here. 1 Like 1 Share |

BABSFREY: By way of additional information, I will be a year older early October, so my score is expected to drop by 5 points. |

Dear All, Thank you for the good work. I have been following this thread with keen interest and it has been helpful to me in my preparations. I first did the IELTS in 2015. I got a decent overall band level of 8.0, but my listening was only 7.0, with the others as R - 8.5, S - 8.5, W - 7.0 I lost interest after that because my score was around 382. Fast forward and precisely 3 years later, motivated by my spouse, I sat for IELTS again. This time too, my overall band level is 8.0, but with much improved score in listening of 8.5, with the others as R - 9.0, S - 8.0, W - 7.0 Only yesterday, I tried creating an EE profile and realized that my CRS is 440, without my spouse as accompanying dependent. If she is to accompany me, it drops my score far lower, to 416, because she is yet to do the WES and also take the English test. What do you advise? Should I wait until she does her WES and IELTS? My thoughts - I do think that since the last draw closed at 440, it is better that I take my chance now, before the CRS inches higher! I will appreciate your thoughts. Thank you. 1 Like 1 Share |

Dear Abujaniv, My colleague at work is eligible for the dropbox and has applied via the dropbox. He has now been asked to come for an interview. Is there a clear reason why people are so identified? Secondly, he is renewing his visa ahead of its expiry, as the visa still has more than a month validity. Will his visa be cancelled if he is denied? Thank you |

Dear Abujaniv, Thank you for the feedback. I was with my mum today, and they prevented me from accompanying her to the interview. I cited the feedback obtained from you, and they dismissive, insisting that Lagos is not Abuja. She went in all by herself and thankfully, she was successful, despite my lack of confidence in her wit. I do appreciate your feedback and please keep the good work going. abujaniv: |

Hello Visa Officer, I intend to take my mum (over 60 years) to the US for a visit (with B1/B2 visa) after her retirement. I hold a B1/B2 visa myself; and I have visited the US 5 times in the past (more recently, April this year). Her interview is scheduled for next week. Will they allow me to come along with her, since I am the sponsor? Does she need to go along with my documents to prove my financial capabilities? She has never traveled out of the country before and she does not know anyone in the US. |

joeburster: Meanwhile, they may ask for a return ticket, but you need not upload it. You can find other supporting documents to show that you will return to Nigeria. Examples could be her commitments to Nigeria e.g. work, family that she is responsible for, financial commitments (loans, etc.) |

Kikiyeun: Hello. I sincerely doubt it. In my case, despite using the online application, I only got a message requesting for my passport after about 47 days. I am sure that the 47 days is not merely waiting time due to backlog of applications, it must have given them the chance to make calls and confirm details as needed. Outside of the US embassy, I doubt it if there are any other who does not confirm the assertions of applicants. I know that the Canadian embassy weighs heavily the US visa, but then again, they know that the US hardly confirms information provided by applicants, so they may be interested in validating the information, notwithstanding the US visa. 1 Like |

andre99: Oh no! Do not get me wrong. I only needed to be sure that it is a positive response, considering that they asked for our passports. Thank you all the same. Our documents were pretty straight forward. A letter of invitation and copy of the PR card of the host. Pictures that I took with the host long before now. Letter from my employer. Letter from my wife's employer. Our wedding certificates. My pay slips for the last 4 months. Her pay slips for the last 4 months. My bank statement (with slightly over N 6 Million). Scanned copy of our US and UK visas. Our Mortgage document for a property in Lekki 1. Registration document for an incorporated company in which I am a director. Nothing major really. I did not have the energy to gather too many documents like some people managed. 3 Likes |

Just to drop a note after following for a while. I did an online visitor visa application for myself and my wife. I submitted Feb 2 and did the biometrics Feb 3. After a long wait, I got a message from them on March 20, that we could submit our passport. I understand that a decision has been made. I did submit our passport March 22. We are now waiting for the message for a final pick up of the passport. Can anything still go wrong at this point? |

Hello All. This is my very first post on here. I did IELTS, first shot at it, and did not do too well, plus I am not that young anymore. I want to know if having the CPA can qualify me for the extra 50 points under the 'certificate of qualification from a Canadian Province or Territory (Skilled trade occupations)'. I have the ACCA, just wondering if it works to speedily obtain the CPA in order to get the number boost. I will appreciate an urgent feedback. |

Just to share....got to the US yesterday. Flew through air France. We had our fit to fly, but the airline did not ask both in Lagos or France. It was a breeze. Wife is 32 weeks gone. POE was JFK. This is deliberate because we planned to avoid the more notorious entry points. Final destination is El Paso, but will catch our breath for a few days in NY. JFK was crazy when we arrived. The queue was incredibly long. Wife and I was on the queue for like 1hr 45 mins. I suggested we inform the immigration officers that wife was pregnant, so that we can get quick passage, but wife will not have anyone give her bump any attention. It was indeed a draining exercise, pushing from line to line. Finally, we were alloted a Chinese looking cbp. He appeared eager to leave for the day, because I watched him beckoning that no other person be brought his way. We were to be his last for the day. Cbp: can I have your passports. Are you family? Me: handed over the passport and I said, yes, she is my wife Cbp: how long are you here for? Me: I will be staying a week, but she will stay for 7 weeks Cbp: Says to wife, place your fingers here and takes her picture and then stamps her in till March Cbp: says to me, place your fingers here and also takes my picture A senior officer shows up, and asks the Cbp to please stay additional 30 minutes. I guess this gave him more time to scrutinize us. Cbp: says to wife, 'you are pregnant, how far gone are you?' Wife: 32 weeks Cbp: when are you due? Wife: November Cbp: Are you having your baby here Wife: yes Cbp: says to me, 'did you inform the VO that you were escorting your wife down here to have a baby?' Me: No. It was Dropbox, and I did not have to appear for an interview. I informed him that we have made all the plans and have all the documents to show, including the change of intent and the budget sheet. Cbp: can I see some of the documents Me: showed him change of intent, budget sheet and letter from Doctor esparati Cbp: stamps me in till march, returns my passport to me, but held that of my wife and then says that wife will be taken for secondary inspection There were a few people at the secondary inspection. About 4 people. The four were cleared in less than 10 minutes and we were the only one left. They had wife's already stamped passport and some documents. They started to review them, talking amongst themselves. Eventually, they called us. Cbp: why do you want to have your baby here. Me: it has been a difficult pregnancy, and want to avoid further complications back home Cbp: how much money do you have Me: about 14k dollars. Brought the cash out. Asked him to count. He declined. I then overheard his colleague jocularly saying to him that 'they got you there, they are prepared'. Cbp: goes in to ask superior officer. Does some typing and stamps wife's passport again till March. Interestingly, she has two 'admitted' stamp on her passport. Learning: Be prepared. No document can be too much to have. Be confident. Be honest. You are within your right. Always remember! 20 Likes 1 Share |

Nogen: It is unfortunate. I think that sometimes as Nigerians we do have an inflated impression of our universe. We like to challenge almost everything, believing that our positions are superior, albeit with insufficient research. I see this on the airplane, shopping mall, etc. I did not realise that we can even take our over confidence to the medical realm, where human life is at stake. It is not all negative though, because a dose of well channeled confidence is good for human progress. 5 Likes |

@Nogen, Congratulations on your triple joy. An accomplishment very well deserved. I note from your submissions that you stayed at his grace lodge in El Paso. How was their service, distance to the major hospitals and what freebies can one hope to get from them. Also, what doctor and hospital did you use? Thank you. |

firsttymum: It is often a case of penny wise pound foolish. I have got similar issue. My potential host stays in NY, and really keen on having us, but the aggregate NY cost does not look good. It is better to pay for accommodation in faraway south, plus the freedom that comes with it, while managing to keep aggregate cost even lower. 2 Likes |

I do not think that legal visitors can be regarded as illegal immigrants. The story refered to birth right citizenship for children of illegal immigrants. That I think should be those overstaying their visa or those brazing the dust and rust along the border into the US. I may be wrong, but this is my take. anonymousmum: 5 Likes |
