The US embassy in Lagos/Abuja should suffice. Birth certificate , old passport and fee are required. Check the website for more details.

bmanbaba:
Good evening.
Please Out of curiosity,When a baby's American Passport expires, can it b renewed here at the American Embassy (Lagos or Abuja) or must one travel to USA before it can be done?

"Just 5 days" a big red flag. Doesn't make sense. And you already answered your question
now i planned to apply for b1/b2 visitors visa, want to go for easter vacation with my dad, just for 5days though

nikiihardehx:
Hello everyone,
I was refused F1 student visa last year, cuz the vo thought there isnt any point foing for an associate degree why i can easily get a bsc.... Even though it was a private college.
, now i planned to apply for b1/b2 visitors visa, want to go for easter vacation with my dad, just for 5days though. He has good travel history and has also renewd his US visa, have also been to the UK.
#The main purpose of the visit is for easter vacation and also use that opportunity to visit some schools, make enquiries and all.
#The question is do you think the vo wont misunderstand my intention,
#what good response do you think i can given when asked why am applying for b1/b2 and not the f1 i was applied for
# plus i have 2 expired, and 1 valid UK visa
And i have as well been to the UK before
Pls help

Burn!!! ouch!!

LagosNIV:

Meh, you don't have to take the VO's word for it. I think you can see plainly that many Nigerians with family in the US are granted visas. But if if you want to take this advice and lie to the VOs, understand that this is why you are getting refused and not because you haven't fasted or prayed enough.

Hi Ify4charm,
I wouldn't worry too much. Newborns are known to breakout on their face/ scalp area. it will clear out in time. Read this article so it can put your mind at ease. http://www.babycentre.co.uk/a72/spotty-skin I personally wouldnt use johnson's products on your baby's skin now. try Aveeno products.

ify4charm:
Hi mums, my Lo is 5 weeks old and breaking out on her face. I use sebamed bath soap and cream and ori (Shea butter) for her hair which doesn't really oil her hair as she has really dry hair and scalp. Last Saturday my mum applied my coconut oil on her hair and used d remaining on her hand to moisturise her face. This was done for two days and since then she has tiny reddish pimple like things on her face, even some on d hair. I suspect it's d coconut oil which I stopped immediately after the second day but it hasn't cleared.pls

1. What do I do to make it go?
2. What cream or oil can I apply to her hair as d Shea butter doesn't really moisturize d hair.
3. Recently bought Johnson baby oil but I am so scared to use it on her hair so I don't increase what's already on her face.

Yeah you are very right about the taxes!! but lets pray very hard for our little darlings so that they become very successful big darlings so that taxes will be a minor headache!!!
Ralphlauren:

Google ma'am smiley

However, this link before provides an overview.

http://www.fatca.hsbc.com/frequently-asked-questions

In summary, a "US person" is liable to pay tax on accounts/earnings obtained outside the US.

So for example, a individual living and working in UK with british citizenship will be expected to pay tax to both the UK and US government. (basically, double taxation).
Now, certain countries have agreed to be part of the FATCA agreement.

http://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/tax-policy/treaties/Pages/FATCA-Archive.aspx

Now what makes it even more interesting is that almost all (if not all) the global banks are taking this FATCA issue seriously. No bank wants to lose their US banking license or get fined by the US authorities.

So it's no surprise why the US embassies are suddenly very busy/generous in dishing out visas to foreign nationals to have their kids in the US (they were never this generous in the past. As a matter of fact, you are almost guaranteed of a refusal if at the visa interview you declare your intention of having a child in the US). It's all about the $$$$$$$ (taxes) that these kids will bring into the coffers of IRS in future. And trust me, double taxation ain't fun grin

Are you serious? Which hospital? That's a first. . .

Most hospitals i know don't charge two separate bills for each baby.

I guess it depends on the hospitals then. So OP, please ask the hospital you will be using.

I don't think so o! i had twins and each child had a separate bill PLUS mine too! so i suggest OP should do her research very well

You will be charged once with a lil extra for twins.

Hey y'all, just a little info for our moms doing a return trip for vacation or whatever with your american pikin, expect questions as to why you gave birth in the US once they sight that blue passport. In my opinion, JFK was the most straight forward and stress free POE, no papers or docs asked for, as long as you tell the TRUTH and just hold on to your paid bills etc, just incase they decide not to take your word for it.

@ shimk HERE YOU GO!! All the best!

As for travelling with a 2 year old , I suggest you carry a bag ( preferably your child's own hand luggage, a kids bag-pack will do). Fill it up with what he/she likes at the moment, i.e favourite activities,ipad/tablet( charger + cable o!!), colouring books with crayons(NOT FELT TIP MARKERS!!!), toys etc. what i do is give a new toy( tiny plastic figurine or anything small) every 2 or so hrs , to keep them surprised.
Also, favorite snack, not food, snack!!! cookies, juice-box or whatever. Diapers for the entire trip, calculate what is used in a 48 hr period. some kids tend to get a bit constipated during travel becos of the chnge in diet, cabin pressure, don"t ask me how i know but it happens. kids Panadol/ibruprofen syrup, thermometer( i have used it in flight it saved me a lot of headache worrying over sudden temp). Change of clothes. not jeans o!! They hard to take off on a small child in a cramped airplane toilet. loose fitting comfortable clothes with a vest underneath for warmth. at least 3 changes will do, these kids can be quite messy.

If you are travelling alone with your toddler, give yourself adequate rest 48hrs before you travel, you will need your energy my dear!!!! transit is a b****, work around your toddlers sleep schedule. i have travelled and still travel with twin toddlers, ALONE!!! it aint beans!!!!!

Finally, plan, plan, plan!!!!

my wife birthday is coming soon and I want her to celebrate it in US using your words

I believe if you use the birthday story as your reason for going to the US, then your travel plans should reflect the dates nearest to AND including her birthday that way you wont be forming stories and you would be telling the truth. Also , since you live in Malaysia, you need to be able to fully and confidently explain why and what you are doing there. This should help you.

On Emirates, a car seat is free and so is a stroller. it might be a toss up btw the two if the check-in staff decides to check in one of them with your own check-in luggage, i.e add the weight to you luggage. If your baby has a ticket AND a seat then you have no issues BUT if your baby is on your laps then he/she is entitled to 10k extra.

See the below the info from emirates website.

Passengers travelling with infants
passengers travelling with infants (under two years of age) on any route not including North or South America may check in up to 10kg (22lb) additional baggage, in addition to your usual baggage allowance.

Passengers travelling with infants (under two years of age) on any route that includes North or South America, may check one extra piece of baggage in addition to your usual baggage allowance, regardless of cabin class. This extra piece must be 23kg (50lb) or less, with total dimensions (length + width + height) not exceeding 115 cm (45 inches).

You may also bring one carry-cot or one fully collapsible stroller as a carry-on item if cabin space is available or as checked baggage at no extra charge.
MadameU:
Dear Nairalanders please is there any one that has travelled with a car seat and stroller back home using emirates? I would like to know if you were charged for the infant car seat, at check in was it counted against the baby's baggage allowance or just checked in without it counting against the baby's baggage allowance? Thanks all. God bless us all

US carriers are notorious for being very customer unfriendly!!! Won't fly them if i have a choice!
PrinceAdeAde:

When I called the airline office in Nigeria last month, they advised i buy a return ticket and get a refund for the other leg once in nigeria. this was before the saga of the huge one way price tag. Wld call them to know if they can refund buts if the wahala is too much, then its not worth it for abt $70 return in value

Delta did not allow wifey use bassinet even though there was two bassinet on board and she was the only one with infant on board. i had to reschedule her flight forward coz her initial ticket was to return on 20th where she had a bassinet seat of 17A but when i rescehduled, the best she could get was 17D as other seats were taken. the hostess no gree allow her use bassinet say she no dey seated on the bassinet seats though I dont hold them too much on this coz its process and i respect processes but on the other hand, she was on the same row, same economy comfort and basinets were totally free. A customer centric organization would find a way around it as they upgrade people in fligth etc

MY dear OP, if you did indeed read this thread thoroughly, you would have come across similar stories and what the advice was, DO NOT LIE!! be upfront and tell the truth!! Stop looking for ways to hide information. employ the advice given in the thread and not ask the good folks on this thread to help you package a lie!!!
macorondo:
I have just found this forum a couple of days back and read discussion up till page 110, interesting I must confess. But I would love response to my ff questions:

1) I applied for visa B1 B2 in October ''14 with my husband and daughter and was successful. It's a tourist visa and we were meant to visit my sister for her wedding anniversary in November, I did not state i was going to give birth since i was not pregnant and had no such plan then. But unfortunately we were not able to travel cos my husband had biz to do at that time.
2) Now we are planning on travelling in March 2015(a couple of weeks time from now), and I am also pregnant abt 16weeks now and not too visible. I and my husband has agreed I stay back in the USA and put to bed there and we are ready to pay the hospital bills as i already contacted the hospital at El paso TX and cost breakdown sent to me via email.
3) My plan is to wear a cloth not revealing and since I would be going with my husband we might not have difficulty at POE has we would state we are here for tourism and visiting my sister. My fear is if I am asked at point of entry if I am pregnant and I deny it since its not obvious, what would happen
4) My husband's plan if asked if I am pregnant would be "yes but just 16weeks and no plan to give birth there" (Lied though).

MY PEOPLE PLEASE ADVISE ME WHAT BEST OPTION WE HAVE GOT TO PASS THRU THE POE OR ANY OTHER THING I AM SUPPOSE TO DO HERE IN NAIJA BEFORE EMBARKING ON THIS JORNEY. GOD BLESS YOU IN ANTICIPATION

*the family inviting us are american citizens, but they re currently in Nigeria working temporarily. Its their son who is also an american that is getting married in america. He is marrying a full white american lady. The wedding will hold in america but the parents of the guy that is getting married are the one inviting us, and they are currently in Nigeria for a contract which will last till December. They just came to Nigeria recently for a contract job, they have been resident in america for about 30 years.
Considering the fact that the people inviting us are currently in Nigeria, will it not affect the chances of securing the visa?

If you feel comfortable enuf to PM the docs for perusal , then that's fine. As for the hospital evidence, I have Extensive receipts because I paid a percentage. I have a zero balance receipt from the hospital and also i have the insurance company statements they send to me frequently. ( keep al, receipts and bills, document them). I didn't show any doc when renewing my visa ( I took them along with me though) I was asked why I had them there and they were like, ok!! I guess I was fortunate then but I got asked the second time around and said the same thing!! Consistency in my answers I guess, it was in their system too!!

@babyspice, kiss dis awoof dey sweet me grin .Our insurance company has dr own health care providers too but said we can choose our own hospitak nd furnish dem with dr details so they liase directly with them cos dr office is in florida too.I av a family in LA, am now looking for hospitals in LA so I can furnish them with d details.
As for d coverage, they cover 100% of all hospital expenses during child birth nd so many other things eg am entitled to a care assistsnce at home for maximum of 8days but 7hrs per day.Hubby jst calked to confirm if we av to pay some % age nd they said no dr coverage for my maternity is 100% nd not 80/20.Inorder nt to bore d forum with dis I will pm u d coverage docs so u read too.
Wot document did they give u at d hospital as evidence of payment nd wot hosp doc did u use to renew ur visa? Thanks
Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by babyspice: 9:58am On Nov 29, 2014
Hi, sure you PM, don't know how that works though, but send a PM, I hope i can find out how to read it!!! To answer your question about hospitals, my insurance company , has a list of hospitals on what they call their "preferred network" ,as they call it. These are hospitals that they have negotiated discounted prices for services. Also, they have other hospitals outside their preferred network but do nt have discounted prices but will accept your insurance company. I had family living in Texas so I searched for hospitals , practices& Doctors within their coverage (listed on their website) and near my chosen accommodation ( family home). Got a list of Dr's , gave the list to the international Liason I.e, International SOS ,who then secured the appointment for me. (I live outside Nigeria)

As for POE, I didn't show anything because nothing was asked, it was over 4 years ago, and it was Houston. Back then there wasn't any direct flight from Lagos so it wasn't too bad, but I would advise you to have your insurance card, email correspondence and cash. ( I had this with me). I did tell them the truth and I have renewed my visa twice afterwards. So no shaking.
eazydune:
@justwise, tnx abunch@bloggerina, sure I will hold cash above 5kdollars.
@baby spice, tnx tnx tnx.am so relieved dt am seeing smone who has thread d path of insurance coy for delivery.mine covers all ranging from specislist to all. There is no limit for days in d hospitals and drs no 80/20% payment bw me nd them. They pay all so long as its within coverage nd av read dr coverage terms nd saw dt almost everything Is covered. As for hospital i would like to know how gave them ur options nd wot u used at poe.I dnt mind pm for detailed guideline.
Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by babyspice: 3:06am On Nov 29, 2014
Hi , Just a quick follow up concerning your US Health Insurance. Like you i had it and i used it( Hubby's company insurance too) , very helpful indeed especially for any unforeseen circumstances. I would advise you ask the insurance company exactly what is covered for maternity, how much they will pay (mine was a 80/20 arrangement, me paying 20% of the total costs). Also find out what your maximum out of pocket expense is, that is, do they require you to make a minimum payment first before(your 20%) before they make 100% of the bills.
How many days in the hospital are they willing to pay for, i.e, for vaginal and CS. ( mine was 3 days for Vaginal and 5 days for CS), will they be paying for specialists? etc Ask all the questions you can. They ususally dont spell it out for you. Also as soon as you have your LO, register them with your insurance company ASAP. Find out the timing for that, its usually 7 days. this will allow them to also cover the baby, but baby will aslo have to meet his/her own out of pocket expenses etc.
Your insurance company should have hospitals and practices within its network that they would recommend for you, through that you should be able to find a Dr, practice and hospital willing to take you. i gave my options to my insurance company ( thru international SOS ) and they made the appointment for me.

US insurance very helpful but very shady too!!!! you will have to hold your cash too my dear, no matter what. please feel free to ask any questions.

eazydune:
Congrats Phema nd Santa on ur smooth poe experience!Damsel nd all new momas that jst delivered, congrats to yu all.

Is a non citizen/perm resident allowed to use her health insurance for medicals in the state? Kindly advice as am so scared and wouldn't want to have problem in my subsequent renewals. Thanks

i believe the new passport supersedes the older one, which should have been stamped cancelled without prejudice. what u shd do is use a rubber band to tie both passports together, with the newer one on top. its something that immigration officials are used too.

Maybe you need to change your group of friends!!! There are loads of Nigerians in respectable and LEGAL occupations in malaysia!
onyiwest:

i don't know where you get your stats from. tell us which of Malaysian universities has a Nigerian professors/Lecturers, i haven't seen or heard of any. I'm talking about University not Pusat(college). Most African restaurants run by a Nigerian man is usually the destination for illegal business, that's why Malaysian police raid them constantly.

Do i hear you talk about Nigerians working at petronas ? this is not true, in fact they normally employ people from Nepal/Bangladesh etc. it's very rare to see a Nigerian pastor in Malaysia that has a work. most of them normally wait for the so called people that are into illegal businesses to pay tithe and offering, in fact they usually pray for them openly.

the ones with legal business are very few, and most of them are into spare parts. However the people into illegal business outnumbered the ones with legal business. 1 in 40. that's the fact!
