Celebrities / 'please Help! I’m Dying' -- Popular Yoruba Actress, Omotunde Ogundimu Cries Out! by bamguy: 8:01am On Jul 29, 2014

For some time now, popular Yoruba actress, Omotunde Ogundimu, has been off the movie scene. But if you think she has found another passion, then, you are wrong. At the moment, the mother of three is battling a debilitating ailment that has since removed the shine from her acting career. In this interview with TheNationOnlineNg, she ventilates her pains and hope, among other issues.

You seldom appear in movies these days. So, what really is responsible for this?

I have been ill.

So, how do you feel now?

I am still very weak. I was at the clinic and the doctor revealed that, even if I have the money readily available, I can’t undergo the surgery now because I have lost so much blood. So, I was given some drugs to help boost the blood back to the level it should be.

Which hospital is that?

It is called Beachland Specialist Hospital in Arepo, Ibafo, Ogun State.

What is the nature of the ailment?

My period comes like 10 to15 days; then, it will stop and come again. I menstruate twice in a month. I noticed it last year before my husband passed away. Anytime we had intercourse, I would always bleed. I took it for something else, so I didn’t really pay attention to it. But when he became sick and we couldn’t have intercourse any more, it (the bleeding) stopped. Then, I didn’t have time to study it at that period too.

But what I noticed is that my menstrual circle changed, so I would menstruate twice in a month with very heavy flow. So, at that time, I just felt it was one of the signs of menopause because I am way above 40. But last year, I had to go to the hospital to complain and the doctor said I had fibroid, even before the tests and scan were conducted. When the scan was done, it was discovered that the fibroid was fully grown in my womb.

You said during the period your husband was sick, you were not having intercourse. But were you having the heavy flow at that time?

Then, it was normal. But the only time it became abnormal was when we had intercourse, so I thought I was approaching my period.

What do you think is exactly wrong with you? Don’t you think it might be a spiritual problem?

No; I don’t think so. You can only say something is spiritual when you don’t get a solution to your problem. But in my own case, I have been able to find out what the problem is and the remedy. Every woman has fibroid, but it is only when it is overgrown that it becomes a problem that needs to be attended to. When it started, I had people who shared their own experiences with me and I was directed to the hospital.

So, how have you been coping, financially?

Well, I am presently in Ibafo, Ogun State, which is close to my home town. When my husband passed away, my family asked me to come back home, so as not to be left alone in Lagos, where I don’t have anybody. So, I came home and rented an apartment. But my children are in one of the boarding schools in Lagos. I didn’t want to change their school.

Whenever they are on vacation, they come here and we spend time together. Sending them to one of the best schools in Lagos is part of my huge financial commitments. But I am glad that I can do that for them because I want them to have the kind of education that I didn’t have.

With your state of health, you definitely need some help. Is anyone living with you?

Some of my siblings do come over to help. But most of them are married and I cannot force them to come and stay with me. So, whenever they volunteer to come, I am always glad to have them around. If not that it went online, nobody knew I was sick. I am a very quite person.

Why did you have to make the ailment hidden for this long without going public with it?

I am just a private person and I just felt I could raise the money and go for the surgery before anybody could know that I was sick.

I don’t go to functions anymore because of the state of my body now-I am so lean. Nobody will see me without asking what is wrong with me. Even the last time I was on location, many of my colleagues felt I was dieting and they complained that it was too serious.

As a crossover actress and one who is popular in both the Yoruba and English sectors of Nollywood, one would expect that you would have a lot of people coming around you.

As I said, the news just got online some days ago and I have been receiving calls from every one of them, promising to do something in any way they can. Most of them didn’t know I was sick and the news going online has drawn their attention to my plight. I also got a call from the AGN president, Ibinabo Fiberesima, asking me to send my details and home address; she promised that they will visit me.

How much do you need to undergo the surgery?

N500,000.

Are you sure the N500, 000 you are requesting for is just for the operation?

I pray the money will be enough. The actual money for the surgery is N350, 000. But I just feel I’ll need some money for my upkeep till I am able to stand on my feet and get back to work. That is the reason I summed up the whole money to N500, 000.

But do you think you need as much as that to undergo a fibroid operation?

Yes, that is true. But it is a private hospital and for someone like me to come out and say I need N350, 000, people will say I should be able to afford such an amount of money because I am an actress. But people do not know what I have been doing all the while. I have single-handedly been training my three kids and I have been struggling to ensure they go to the higher institution, which I did not attend.

Also, the treatment and drugs that I have been taking have cost me a lot of money. Right now, I don’t have any other business I am doing apart from my acting career. I was hoping I would be able to save some money and set up a business. But all that is on hold now.

Does that mean your in-laws were not in support of the union?

The circumstances that surrounded my husband’s death are best known to them. He was married to five wives and he died at the age of 41. After his death, they sold one of his property in Abeokuta and shared the money among us his wives and gave a whole building to my children. After that, no calls to even ask about the welfare of their children.

What is your position among the wives?

I am the second wife.

Didn’t you know he was married?

I never intended to go into the marriage. But sometimes in life, some things take place that you do not plan. You know when you are in love with a man, you believe everything he tells you. When we were courting, he only told me he had someone that bore him a child. When I was pregnant with my first child, he took me home to meet his father, who asked me if he had told me about my senior (the first wife); so, that was when I knew.

I didn’t understand what he was saying until he told me that the man I wanted to get married to already had a wife and a child living with him. I left and told him I was going for abortion. But he went to my mum in Ibafo to inform her about my decision and she came down with him to Iyana Ipaja that same day to plead with me. He knew I am the only child of my mother and that she was already looking forward to having grandchildren. That was how I found myself in a polygamous home. And then, I was working as a clearing and forward agency at NAHCO, Ikeja, Lagos. I had my own apartment, so he was always at my place. But he was a lovely man and a good man. He took care of me. But you know, when there are so many women involved, it is a different story.

Is it that you do not have friends in the industry because you said none has paid you a visit?

(Laughs) That was before! You know, it is said that no matter the multitude, there will always be a disagreement. But at the moment, I am not fighting anybody. So, I have been receiving calls and prayers from most of them, promising to come and pay me a visit. Most of them didn’t know I was sick. As I said, I am a very private person.

We have had cases of stars seeking help from the public. So, is it that you people do not save for the rainy days?

I understand what you are saying. But in my own case, I have been managing on my own all the while without asking anybody for assistance. But the truth of the matter is that the money we are paid here is nothing to write home about. It is all about helping your colleague, when he or she wants to shoot a movie. So, it is whatever the person has that you will collect. All the stories they tell about some people collecting N600, 000 for a roles are lies.

But most of you live flamboyantly; so, where do they get the money from?

I don’t know o! I only know about myself, my sister. Yes, some of them earn well and are into other businesses. As I said earlier, if I get back on my feet and start working, I will get something else doing aside my acting career. Some make money from the movies they produce, especially if the movies sell well.

Having been in the industry for over a decade now, what can you say about your experience as a producer?

I have done three movies: Temidun, Origun Meta and Abiamo honeypot. I would have produced another one, but I don’t want to produce any movie that will be below the name and standard that I have been able to build for myself over the years. But my first three were hits in the market. That was when movies still had values. What we have now are marketers who always complain about low sales.

And I can proudly say I was able to make good use of the proceeds from those movies. I opened a wholesale wine shop, but that is history now because that was where I was collecting money when my husband fell sick. And you know how business is, once you don’t add more to it, it will collapse.

I learnt Tope Alabi brought you into the movie industry. Why have you not sought her assistance?

We were in the dance group, Sunny Wonders Performing Group, before she left. We were into dramas and stage plays. But after a while, we met again and I stayed with her at her parents’ home, which was not far from my uncle’s house where I was living then. But when we met, she started telling me about finding my way into the Yoruba movie industry, instead of wasting my time with the group that promised to take us abroad to perform. That was how she introduced me to Alade Aromire Group. But I don’t have her contact and that is the reason I have not been able to reach her for assistance.

I am someone who does not like to bother people. Sometimes, when you expect help from a particular person, you might end up being disappointed. And at the end of the day, you will feel bad. That is the reason I don’t like telling people about what is happening to me. I am a fighter, if not for the fact that Mr. Idris Bello of Shybellmedia got in touch with me and asked what was wrong. I told him I was sick and he came visiting the next day.

When he saw me, he told me not to keep mute on the issue. He said I should let people know about my state of health, stressing that those who would come to my aid will do and those who will talk will talk. I told him they would say, ‘Is she not an actress? Why wouldn’t she be able to afford such an amount? And he told me that I have my life to live.

Nairaland / General / Guys, Meet America's First Openly Gay Imam by bamguy: 3:13pm On Dec 23, 2013

He’s been condemned by other Muslim leaders, and some local imams have even refused to greet him.
But Imam Daayiee Abdullah – believed to be the only openly gay imam in America– is proud of his story.
According to Aljazeera, Imam Abdullah was born a Christian, born and raised in Detroit, where his parents were Southern Baptists.

But at age 15, he told his parents he was gay.
At 33, while studying in China, Abdullah converted to Islam, and went on to study the religion in Egypt, Jordan and Syria.
But as a gay man in America, he saw that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Muslims had unmet spiritual needs, so he decided to become an imam to attend to their needs.

“Sometimes necessity is the mother of invention. And because of the necessity in our community, that's why I came into this particular role,” he told America Tonight about his journey.

His first act as an imam was performing funeral rites, Muslim body cleaning ritual for a gay Muslim who died of AIDS.
Pained Abdullah said:

“They had contacted a number of imams, and no one would go and provide him his janazah services. This pained me. I believe every person, no matter if I disagree with you or not, you have the right as a Muslim to have the proper spiritual [rites] and rituals provided for you. And whoever judges you, that will be Allah's decision, not me.
"The beautiful thing about God is that when you change your attitude, and say, 'God, I need some help,' and mean it sincerely, God is always there for you,”

Abdullah serves as the imam and educational director of the Light of Reform Mosque in Washington, D.C.
A mosque he helped form more than two years ago, to be a safe space for values and practices that other mosques may eschew.

In his mosque, women and men kneel side-by-side and women are allowed to lead prayers – actions that have sparked controversy even among American Muslims.
His mosque’s congregants are diverse and represent a wide range of cultures, religious upbringings and sexual orientations.
For its LGBT congregants, the Light of Reform Mosque is a rare safe space. But not all of them are gay. Many are just Muslims looking for a mosque that accepts all kinds.

Not everyone is happy with the mosque though.
Some local imams have refused to greet Abdullah, and many others across the country argue his work performing same-sex marriage is not legitimate, and that he should control his “urges.”

But Abdullah is firm in his belief.
"Being an openly gay imam and having been identified as such, I do get a lot of feedback and also kickback, but that's OK,” he said. “I think that when people are unfamiliar with things, they tend to have an emotional knee-jerk reaction to it.

Abdullah has hope that the message he is working to spread will continue to resonate: "It is our relationship with God and our relationship with each other that really establishes our faith." Not whether you are gay or straight.

Entertainment / IK Ogbonna Wishes He Could Marry All The Girls In The World; What A Dream!!!! by bamguy: 10:56pm On Dec 21, 2013

Nollywood actor/model IK Ogbonna has paid a big price for being such a handsome guy. Recently there was an allegation that his recent trip to the US was to satisfy the sexual urge of his female customers as a gigolo and homosexual.

Seven years ago, he was a nobody, he moved to Lagos alone and had a very rough time. Sometimes he slept on the street, for like three years or so, he slept in cars and today, he is hot and famous.

IK Ogbonna's fashion weakness is the fact that he could be regarded as metrosexual in looks especially because he is not confident in wearing clothes that’s not fitted. He feels lost in clothes that are not cut to fit his body.

Apart from that he doesn’t think he has any weakness. He revealed that he has a crush on Genevieve Nnaji, whenever she’s around he loses his guards…

He loves art and loves his tattoos, every tattoo on his body is related to the Bible verses he loves and that guide him.

"Sorry to all those who doesn’t like it, tattoos don’t define who you are like; they say read a book and know its content. Know the person, not the tattoos," he said.

For the ladies, he loves everyone of you and he wishes he could marry all of you but since he can’t, he can only love and appreciate you, ladies.

Maheeda, who insists she's a gospel singer, tells Galaxy TV

"I'm not posting those nude pictures on the internet to teach people to start going naked, I posted them because I felt I am sexy and I love sexuality. In Europe, where I live, at a certain age, parents will start to teach their children about sex education. But it is unfortunate that I came from this part of the world where sentiment is attached to everything.

I’m 31 years old and I can’t pretend to behave like a baby or something. I’m sexy and I like it. I’m still spiritually inclined and I have some gospel songs which are not out yet. One of them is Papangolo. Those nude pictures you see is Maheeda. That is me. I am just expressing myself. I’m sexy and I am only appreciating that fact because I love sexuality.

Nairaland / General / It’s A White Christmas! Snow Falls In Egypt For The First Time In Over 100 Years by bamguy: 5:30pm On Dec 20, 2013

egypt

If you are dreaming of the white Christmas, don't search too far Egypt is your answer. A lot of Egyptians did not expect a white Christmas, but that is what they will be getting this year.

Cairo has been transformed into a winter wonderland after a “historic” storm in the Middle East brought a rare treat to Egypt’s capital Friday: a blanket of powdery, white snow.

Due to Cairo’s low rate of precipitation and typically above-freezing winter temperatures, snow is an exceptionally unusual weather phenomenon for the North African city. So unusual, in fact, that the Los Angeles Times, citing local news reports, writes that the last recorded snowfall in Cairo was more than 100 years ago.

Ali Abdelazim, an official at the city’s meteorological centre, confirmed to the Agence France-Presse this is the “first time in very many years” that snow has fallen in the Cairo area.

Excited Egytians took to social media Friday to share photographs of the unusual meteorological event.

Though the snow brought delight to many Cairo residents, the winter storm — dubbed “Alexa” — proved to be bad news for some neighbors.

Alexa brought more misery to thousands of Syrian refugees living in the region, many of whom were unprepared for the cold, brutal conditions.

In Israel, where the storm reportedly brought the heaviest December snowfall since 1953, roads had to be closed and thousands were left without power from the inclement weather.

Celebrities / REVEALED: 9ice Didn't Know His Father Until He Was 22 by bamguy: 10:22am On Nov 23, 2013

Popular Naija musician, 9ice, says he is back and better. In a recent with Punch's Nonye Ben Nwakwo, he also revealed certain issues about his personal life that many do not know about him. Brief excerpt below:

Now that you are back, should these small artistes making waves be scared?
We are not on the same level. They are in the river and I am in the ocean. Let them just do their thing. I am on a different level. They are making money. That is nice. They don’t disturb me and I don’t disturb them either

Why did you deny you had twins when they were born?
I did say I didn’t have twins then because I believe it was personal. If I have N1m, I think it is only my account’s officer that should know how much I have. In fact, he wouldn’t even have the right to check my account unless I ask him to do that. He couldn’t just cull up my account details and start checking how much I have. This is not a car we are talking about, these are human beings.

When they grow up, do you think they will forgive you when they read that you once denied them?
I will tell them the reason I did that. It was the same way my father gave me his own reasons. I didn’t know him until I was 22. I got to know my mother when I was 18.

They gave me their reasons for doing what they did. I asked my father where he was all the time I was growing up and he told me where and how and when he was a part of my life. If my kids grow up to ask me why I did what I did, I would certainly explain to them. I didn’t say I didn’t have kids just because I wanted to lie, No. I had my reasons. I had my life to live.

Crime / How Lagos Spiritualist Defrauds, R*pes, Impregnates His Client For Deliverance by bamguy: 7:34pm On Nov 19, 2013

A herbalist has been arrested and charged before an Ojokoro Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly defrauding a woman seeking husband of N2m and defiling her at his shrine.
A 31-year old businesswoman, Temidayo Akinwale, who is now pregnant, suffered the fate when she contacted the herbalist, identified as Ifatade Elegbeleye, to deliver her from strange spirits that prevented her from getting a husband.

The incident happened at Elegbeyele’s shrine located at Ayobo Road in Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area. The accused was arraigned on a six-count charge of fraud, stealing and obtaining s*x under false pretences.
According to the police, the suspect lured his victim to a shrine and told her that he needed to perform some rituals to deliver her from spiritual husband that prevented her from getting a husband.
Mrs. Mary Akinwale, the 65-year-old mother of the victim testified before the court, narrated how Elegbeleye lured her daughter to his shrine, defiled and impregnated her.
The upset mother told the court that Elegbeleye prophesied to her daughter that she was possessed with spiritual husband that would prevent her from getting married and asked her to pay some amount of money for spiritual cleansing. She said that her daughter, who was frightened by the prophesy, paid the money and had to go to a river at Ipaja area in the midnight, where she was bathed with spiritual soap. After the bath, she still could not get a husband, so the victim contacted the herbalist again. The accused invited Temidayo Akinwale again to his shrine, defiled and impregnated her.

In his response, Elegeleye told the court that he actually delivered her of a spiritual husband, adding that he did not collect the money she accused him of collecting.
He said he has been doing spiritual deliverance for years and have liberated many people. When asked to comment on the allegations of r*pe and pregnancy, he declined to talk.

Mrs. O.A. Layinka, the presiding Magistrate, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The accused was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending the fulfilment of the bail condition.
The trial will resume on December 21, 2013.

Entertainment / D'banj Plans To Acquire Private Jet by bamguy: 11:39am On Nov 18, 2013

Apart from few business moguls and few politicians who are proud owners of private jets in Nigeria, pastors are the next to have that expensive 'toy' used for transportation. From findings, pastors in Nigeria have the higher number of jets than the others. There is even a man of God in Nigeria who has more than three private jets.

In the entertainment industry, there are no proud jet owners. The closest, P-Square, as we learnt, are not the owners of the private jet they reportedly bought some months ago.

For D'Banj, he has hinted that he needs to get a private jet. On Sunday, he was supposed to be at the wedding ceremony of Peter Okoye of P-Square, but missed it.

He lamented that if he had had a private jet, he would have made the trip to Nigeria from South Africa, where he performed on Saturday.

According to D'Banj, "this is the time I really wished I had that jet. I swear, whosover said it (having a private jet) was a luxury lied. It's a necessity and God go do am (God will do it)."

Celebrities / Peeshawn Of Skuki Let It Out; Confesses His Burning Love For Chidinma by bamguy: 6:21am On Oct 31, 2013

Peeshawn, one half of singing sensation Skuki (pictured above in white shirt) confessed his love for the pretty Kedike singer in an interview with Encomium mag. Excerpts from the interview below...

But, there are some you also admire that you don’t mind spending the rest of your life with?
Yes, of course! Nigeria is blessed with pretty babes. If you study me well, you will observe that I am a very romantic guy, at the same time, I am very emotional. I definitely have someone that I love so much.

In the industry or out of the industry?
(Pause for seconds) In the industry, I have someone I really love so much.

Who is the lucky lady?
(Pauses again) Chidinma. She’s really attractive. I really love her so much, but we’ve not really had time to chat closely, except when we met at backstage during shows. I hope she will read this, for her to know that Peeshaun of Skuki loves her.

But Chidinma doesn’t read newspapers. She told us in an interview recently?
I am sure her friends, family will read it. They will definitely tell her I said so. I will love to marry her.

Are you serious?
Yes, of course!

What do you really like about Chidinma?
First, I love her music. I love her style. I love her composure. Apart from that, what I love in a woman is a beautiful face and I think Chidinma has 10/10 of that. The low cut on her head is making her look more beautiful anytime I see her performing or watch her video.

Are you directly or indirectly proposing to her?
I don’t want to talk about that now. Next question, please.
....................

I guess Chidinma is seeing someone's obsession for her love. One old song says, "it's so good loving somebody and somebody loves you back". Hope it applies in this situation because Chidinma might already have her own lover and/or someone she really want to have, referring to her "Dammy Krane is a sweet, cute guy" statement she made in last month interview with Hiphop World.

Wish this fellas all the good!

Nairaland / General / My Kidnappers Released Me Willingly, Police Didn't Rescue Me –– Bishop Kattey by bamguy: 9:09am On Sep 19, 2013

Archbishop of Niger Delta Province of the Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Ignatius Kattey, has accused the Nigeria Police of lying over their claim that they secured his release from the dare-devil kidnappers who had abducted him penultimate Friday.
Briefing newsmen to share his 9 days experience in the den of kidnappers, Rev. Kattey thanked the Police for their efforts, but said that they were not the ones who rescued him.
“The Police did not rescue me, neither were they the ones who rescued my wife, Beatrice. I saw the Police for the first time two days ago, after the incident. I heard the statements made by the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO. The police are telling lies. If you cannot trust the Police, then who can you trust? I told the Commissioner of Police and he has apologised.
“I know that they made efforts but they did not rescue us. A helicopter flew over the area more than 500 times, but the boys (kidnappers) were smarter. They held me in a thick forest and no one could see me there.

“On the day of my release (September 14), the kidnappers moved me and we trekked a number of kilometres till we got to a road. Then they gave me N200 and ordered me to walk towards a direction where I would get a bike. We thank God for His mercies because I wouldn’t even wish my enemy to go through that experience,” he said

Kattey, who is Dean of the Nigerian Anglican Communion, also said that he was not aware if any ransom was collected over his release, explaining that he was not tortured by his abductors.

He added that: “From my experience, the abductors are hungry and in dire need of means of livelihood. Some are adequately educated but lack the enabling environment to positively express themselves. If government will give the people potable water, light and good roads, they will change.”

Islam for Muslims / Obabiyi Aisha Ajibola Wins Muslim World Beauty Pageant by bamguy: 9:09pm On Sep 18, 2013

A Nigerian, Obabiyi Aisha Ajibola, tearfully prayed and recited Koranic verses as she won a world beauty pageant exclusively for Muslim women in the Indonesian capital Wednesday, a riposte to the Miss World contest that has sparked hardline anger.

The 20 finalists, who were all required to wear headscarves, put on a glittering show for the final of
Muslimah World, strolling up and down a catwalk in elaborately embroidered dresses and stilettos.
But the contestants from six countries were covered from head to foot, and as well as beauty they were judged on how well they recited Koranic verses and their views on Islam in the modern world.
After a show in front of an audience of mainly religious scholars and devout Muslims, a panel of judges picked Obabiyi Aishah Ajibola from Nigeria as the winner.

Eka Shanti, who founded the pageant three years ago after losing her job as a TV news anchor for refusing to remove her headscarf, bills the contest as “Islam’s answer to Miss World”.
“This year we deliberately held our event just before the Miss World final to show that there are alternative role models for Muslim women,” she told AFP.

Aisha received 25 million rupiah ($2,200) and trips to Mecca and India as prizes.
