Politics / Igbos...be Warned by Bammydele83: 2:04pm On Jul 25, 2016
We, Oodua Foundation, comprising Yoruba intellectuals, professionals, business leaders, government officials, and military officers, in countries across the world, are constrained to make our position absolutely clear about the noise by the Igbo resident refugees in the Yoruba kingdom of Lagos in Southwestern Nigeria.

As all Nigerians would testify, we Yoruba love to welcome and include foreigners into our land. For this reason, most folks fleeing from various difficult conditions in all parts of Nigeria choose our homeland in Southwestern Nigeria as their destination. Apart from the Igbo people, large numbers of other Nigerian nationals now reside in the Yoruba Southwest, with strong concentrations in Lagos.

With the exception of the Igbo, all the rest are civil and respectful in their relationships with other nationals and with their Yoruba hosts. Though most Igbo people in Lagos do settle down peacefully to raise their children and pursue their businesses, certain Igbo residents and e-rats attach a lot of value to being noisy, obstreperous and disruptive in society and on internet.

Refusing to be grateful for what they and their people are benefiting from Yorubaland, these ones choose to constitute themselves into constant pain and trouble. The Yoruba people of Lagos, and other Lagos residents from other parts of Nigeria, are becoming tired of having these prickly characters around us.

Out of respect for the majority of Igbo people who respect others and deserve to be respected, we will say no more than this: Very many Nigerians know the precolonial history of Igboland. No amount of panel-beating and polishing can change that.

Almost all Nigerians, and most informed people in the world, know the history of the Yoruba nation. No amount of distortion can change that.

We remind those Igbo who love to cause noise and tension in Lagos that you chose to come on your own, the people of Lagos did not invite you. The roads by which you came are still open. You are free to return home. We Yoruba are not causing disruption in your homeland; you have no right to continue to cause disruption in our homeland.

Politics / Proposing The 'south East Development Commission' by Bammydele83: 11:17am On Jun 20, 2016
I can not but look in awe at the gullibility and silence of our Southern senators (most especially senators from the South East) as regards the North-East Development Commission which is to be sited in the region for the development of the boko-haram ravaged geo-political zone.
My question is...what of the civil war ravaged South-East that has been abandoned even 40 years after the war?
What singular act did past and present Government initiate to ensure that region gets the necessary attention from the Government based on Federal Presence and development?

While nothing was done to develop the ravaged South-East during the civil war, our brothers up North proposed a bill (which has passed the 2nd reading) to create North-East Development Commission (NEDC) and yet none of these buffoon senators from the South (I believe it is high time we started recalling this foolish senators that goes to the senate to sleep while the serious senators from the North gets the job done) had the courage to use that opportunity to bring to the fore the injustice meted out to the Igbos 40 years after the civil war by insisting a commission that will serve same purpose is created for the development of the South-East Region.

Please for God's sake the Southern part of Nigeria need to unite for unity of purpose. This tribalism, suspicions and unhealthy rivalry is drawing the region back. The Igbos have to stop hating on the Yorubas and vice versa. This seed of discord sowed by the colonial masters is still in play today. It is a disadvantage to us all and that is why our senators in the house are not united.
Why and why do we from the South (Yoruba an Igbo) always hating on ourselves? I believe it is time to forgive one another and move on for the betterment of Nigeria at large.

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
God bless the Yoruba Nation.
God bless the Igbo Nation.

Peace....

Politics / Igbos Role In The Making Of Lagos by Bammydele83: 4:59pm On Jun 14, 2016
There is no doubt at all that there is a strand in contemporary Igbo behaviour that can offend; by its noisy exhibitionism and disregard for humility and quietness"

.............Chinua Achebe.

Most Igbos says they are the people that developed Lagos and made Lagos what it is today. They say without Igbos, Lagos is finished. And I keep wondering, how has Igbos helped in shaping and developing Lagos. Lets get the fact right, Igbos didn't develop Lagos rather, it was Lagos that shaped and made the Igbos what they are today. Without igbos in Lagos, Lagos will remain Lagos and without Lagos, most Igbos may likely be nothing. Reason for my assertion is that most giant and top companies that attracts millions of people across the country to Lagos are not owned by the Igbos so, how has Igbos shaped and developed Lagos? These are the achievements and economic advancement Igbos gave Lagos and Lagosians; Tokunbo and Fake Spare Parts at Ladipo Market, China Electronics and pirated CDs at Alaba market, bend-down select cloths at Idumota and yaba and kotangowa market, Chinese and Tokunbo computers accessories and phones at Computer village Ikeja are Igbos economical achievement and contribution to Lagos. In fact, most Igbos are causing nuisance in Lagos. A visit to these markets will tell you the amount of nuisance that Most Igbos has caused in Lagos. The environmental pollution caused by waste of all sorts, they are dirty, stinking, rough, erection of illegal shops on road, on pipeline and railway lines are encouraged in this market places that causes traffic gridlock and other dangerous acts and when Lagos state government dismantle this illegal shops, they get angry, if Lagos state government close their shops for environmental violation, they pick offence. How then has the Igbos developed Lagos? My take is this, PZ, COCA-COLA, 7UP, CADBURY, MTN, ZAIN, GLO, ETISALAT, DANGOTE, SHOP-RITES, GOLDEN PENNY, FLOUR MILL, INDOMIE, UNILEVER, P&G, CHI LIMITED, GUINNESS, NIGERIA BREWERIES, OANDO, CONOIL, TOTAL, MOBIL, CHEVRON, SHELL, AQUADANA, KFC, EKO HOTEL, INTER CONTINENTAL HOTEL, PROTEA HOTEL, JULIUS BERGER, RCC CONSTRUCTION, NESTLE, KPMG, GSK, FRISLAND FOOD, WAMCO, BRITISH AMERICA TOBACCO, FLOUR MILL, SCHLUBEGER, AIT, SILVERBIRD TV, CHANNELS TV, LARFARGE, etc. are not own by the Igbos. These companies are what attracts millions of people to Lagos. Igbos shouldn't lay claim that they develop a place by becoming nuisance. Most of the top churches in Lagos are not also owned by Igbos. House on the Rock, Redeem, Christ Embassy, Deeper life, living faith, MFM, etc are not owned by Igbos, the church that are own by an Igbo are TREM and The Lord Chosen church. Records shows that 75% of robbery cases in Lagos are carried out by Igbos, 85% of ritual cases in Lagos are carried out by Igbos, 60% of drug cases in Lagos are carried out by Igbos, 70% of fraud cases in Lagos are carried out by Igbos, 90% of pirated CDs in Lagos are carried out by Igbos, 60% of fake and Adulterated drugs in Lagos that has kill thousands of Lagosians are carried out by Igbos, in fact, most of the crimes in Lagos are link to the Igbos so how has Igbos developed Lagos when they can't get their hands off crimes. The truth is that Igbos should be grateful that the Yorubas accommodate them in Lagos peacefully, they shouldn't take the Meekness and kindness of the Yorubas for granted. Igbos didn't make Lagos but its Lagos that made Igbos.

Investment / Fresh Hurdles Hit North’s Biggest Power Plant by Bammydele83: 9:15am On Jan 26, 2016
Fresh hurdles are threatening to make the multi-billion naira 215 megawatts power plant in Kaduna to miss completion target for the third time.
The federal government awarded the contract in November 2009 to General Electric and Rockson Engineering for a dual thermal plant using Low Pour Fuel Oil (LPFO) and natural gas, to be located in Kudenda, Kaduna. It had a December 31, 2013 completion period.

The contract missed the initial deadline for nearly two years due to lack of suitable trucks in Nigeria at the time to transport the turbines from Onne Port in Rivers state to Kaduna.
However, as another deadline approaches, Daily Trust investigations have revealed that a “disagreement” has recently developed between the federal ministry of power and one of the contractors on the mode of fuelling the power plant.
Sources said the disagreement could further extend the N23 billion project completion period.
Official documents obtained by this newspaper shows that the power ministry had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Greenville Oil and Gas Company Limited in November 2014 to supply the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) required to operate the plant.
More than a year later, the agreement did not transform to a Gas Sales and Purchase Agreement (GSPA) “because of the lacklustre attitude of some ministry officials,” multiple sources privy to the project said.
A source told Daily Trust that the plant which was expected to take-off before June this year was allegedly being frustrated by the project office in the ministry headed by Mrs Briscilla Sabke.
She is said to have issues with the trucking of LNG fuel to the plant. She is in favour of using Automotive Fuel Oil (AGO - diesel) which experts say would create additional cost of $70million annually to run the plant.
They added that the additional cost apart, the gas pipeline to connect to the plant from the south will take years to construct and consequently cause more delays.
But Mrs Sabke was said to have argued that it would take only two years to get the pipelines ready, insisting that trucking gas to the plant would destroy the road.
Energy experts, who spoke to this newspaper, even said the plant had extended beyond six months of its completion timeline with an additional cost of $2million.
The initial relocation of the plant to its current site, a source said, had already cost the government one million Euros.
Some equipment are still at Onne Port awaiting clearance including the black-start diesel generators and other transmission equipment since 2015, it was learnt.
The clearance delay was attributed to missing Import Duty Exemption Certificates (IDEC), a source said.
Other factor that may delay the plant even if the fuel supply arrangement is complete is the incomplete power evacuation component that would convey power from the plant to the Kudenda substation.
The contractor, Skipper is said to be owed N870million and four million Euros.
Its 132 kilovolt substation being handled by the Rockson Engineering is incomplete while another 123KV transmission line to the Mando substation valued at about $6million is yet to be done, a ministry official said.
When contacted, Mrs Sapke told our reporter that all queries should be directed officially to the ministry as she is not authorise to speak.
A ministry official said the plant is designed since 2009 to be dual-fired because natural gas is not available in the area.
“It can use both natural gas and diesel and if Greenville said there is an agreement, then an MOU is not the same with a contract agreement. They submitted a proposal on supplying LNG. It is an ongoing process,” a source said.
But a Greenville official said several attempts to discuss the issues with Mrs Sabke were not successful.
He added that the contractor had already incurred cost of over $200 million by setting up facilities in Port Harcourt and Kaduna for the fuel supply contract.
Another source said the project manager’s attitude towards Greenville may not be unconnected to the plan by some top officials of this administration to re-award the fuel supply contract to another oil firm which they had interest.
“That is why Mrs Sabke insisted that installations of AGO tanks must go on and even six extra storage tanks should be ordered and installed immediately,” a source close to the project said.
Daily Trust attempt to obtain the actual budget releases to the power plant from the federal ministry of finance through Freedom of Information request was not successful as of time of filing this report.
But a five-year budget plan of the federal ministry of power between 2012 and 2016 showed that about N24.8billion was budgeted for the project.
Analysis of budget estimates shows that N1.76billion was allocated to the plant in 2012; N5billion in 2013; N3.7billion in 2014; N115million in 2015 and N13billion in 2016 budget proposal being considered by the National Assembly.
A ministry official said the money allocated to the power plant in 2015 was not released due to the budget situation.
Several factors have been delaying the project since its inception. In December 2012, Daily Trust reported that the turbines and other components of the plant were trapped at the Onne Port and could not be transported up North because the roads were bad and the bridges weak.
Months later, the equipment was successfully moved to Kaduna, following repairs to the affected roadways. Sources told Daily Trust then that the planners of the project appeared not to have reckoned with the nature of Nigerian roads and quality of the LPFO produced at the Kaduna refinery, which was supposed to be used to power the plant.
With the eventual successful transportation of the equipment, the issue of the fuel to power the plant has come up again. Between 18 and 30 trucks of diesel are required daily to keep the plant running when it is completed, Daily Trust learnt.
Given the condition of the roads and the non-completion of the new rail line, it would be difficult and costly to sustain the plant, which is meant to be the biggest in the North.
On the project completion, the power ministry’s spokesperson Timothy Oyedeji said the Kaduna power plant is among those projects the ministry is giving priority.
Minister Raji Fashola “has made provisions in the budget to complete it. The plant is about 90 per cent completed, so it is a critical project and it is almost completed now, and is among the projects that would be realised soon.
