The devil is a liar big time!!!!!

Thanks to God for the prayer offered on this altar!

Like play o, my boy started running temperature around 1 am today and before we knew it, he started vomiting. We couldn't stand it and we rushed him to the hospital around 1:30am. This is the boy that has just been treated of malaria 2weeks ago.

They ran malaria test for him but it was negative. We were referred to the hospital lab for test. That we have done this morning and result will be ready tomorrow.

My boy cried to the extent that I was shedding tears unknowingly when they were taking his blood. They couldn't locate the vein on time cos he is very chubby. Thank God my hubby came back from his journey yesterday, I don't know how I would have coped.

He is presently on medication and he is responding fine now.

In another news, he was giving polio vaccine in the hospital, I asked d nurse why and she said there is outbreak of polio.

None of us will bury our children on this platform and they will be a source of concern to us.

Sorry for my long post, just to let u guys know the situation of things.

Thank you.

The devil is indeed a liar. Your post is not long o in fact any post concerning the well being of our dear ones is never too long.

May God perfect his healing.

Mama I beg u people should allow me vent here cos I no wan face DH this night cos quarreling is prohibited. I'm a FTM I complained of waist pain and he ask me want I did with my waist all day ( in DH voice......u didn't drive and u didn't stand for long) Imagine asking a woman that is 7months pregnant and very active that kind of question. I'm just pissed off. He keeps saying u should be in charge of ur body this pregnancy shouldn't control u. I can't even crave for anything he will first preach that craving is of the mind before I will get whatever I ask for by then I have lost appetite.
He helps me quite alright but I still do my normal chores cos he will say he doesn't want me to be lazy that I should try and live my normal life. Don't know how to make him understand how I feel. Really pissed off tonight.

since its d first time for both of u, Ur dh might not really understand what u r going through so I guess dts y he's talking like this. If there's an older woman ( like his mom) around dt he listens to, u can get her to talk to him n explain how a woman feels during pregnancy. But pls be wise about it so dt it won't look like u went to report him.

on Ur own part pls don't stress urself o anyone u no fit do a beg leave am. Dey no dey give award for macho woman for pregnancy.

We use Lagos state health center, and as far as am concerned, its a public place. Anyway to cut long story cut,we have been booked for six months already. And checking my card, its for vitamin A.

I use UCH n we were asked to come @ five n half months instead of six. on getting there what we had was a weaning class in preparation for introducing solids to our los. vit A was given at nine months. just to prepare Ur mind sha in case u get there n meet something else.
on my card too vit A was indicated for six months but iv heard from several people dt its now given at nine months. I don't know if d change is everywhere or just some selected places.

Doubledouble:

Me still learning too oo...I blended into powder in the recent paste but wasn't super smooth and my LOs are still smoothy feeders...so whilst blending the recent batch, I just decided to add a little and transfer into the wet mill...

I bought groundnut-the small sized ones, learnt they are more nutritious than the big ones- I parboiled it a bit drained the water and left it to dry. I then put a pot on the stove, warmed it up and added the garri. Add the groundnut when the garri is a little hot, keep stirring till it starts making that popping sound. Try peeling one to see it's okay. Leave it to cool, peel, then blend.

I blend soya beans and chickpea too and add to their pap and soups.

pls what's chick pea n what is d local name

Doubledouble my groundnut paste stayed for one year. I sent my sis inlaw moni and she made one big bucket of it. We stored in the freezer and usually bring out some and put in the fridge. Yes it gets hard just like when you put butter inside fridge. The taste never changed till the last drop finished. That one used mostly for eating garden egg. So yours should last too.

pls do you know how she made the groundnut paste? I'm interested. Thanks

Stadora, please where did you get Sorghum leaves from? It is used in a delicacy in Ghanaian food and gives a deep red colour to the food. Someone I know is looking for it.

I mean she tried to make ogi powder by milling sorghum n co dry instead of d regular way its usually made ie by sieving. don't think she used d leaves

I planted some but they ain't doing so well and it's really taking so much time to grow. How did you plant yours.

Anybody know where I can get lettuce seeds to plant? Even carrot seeds and anything plantable grin. I uprooted some flowers I planted and used the space as garden. My ugu leaf and tomatoes are growing very fast now.
Cc Onegai, you kuku sabi everything, only you sabi all these spices and locations in Lagos. Oya give me answers to my questions I know say you go sabi am. cheesy
Cc everybody.

Lol farm ke? I bought it from d market ni o. shebi dt wat is called effirin in Yoruba.
don't have a farm o but I want to start a container farm I remember someone here mentioned something like that on another thread, was it you?

@ onegai yes I heard so but iv not tried it, but stadora's own is not just made from corn o its a combo of sorghum, Miller n co used for baby pap.
she said she had to throw it away Cos her baby kept purgingsa. I was just wondering if she could use it for other purposes.

I'd advise you go to your LG as it will be easier ......I initially paid 2000 to my hospital for ordinary certificate but all they gave was birth declaration or something not quite sure and it didn't serve purpose then I went back to them for the certificate itself and I was reffered to my LGA which is surulere so I went with the birth declaration from the hospital and all we paid was 1,500

pls enligten me more in this. I have two birth certificates for my dd. one from d hospital n d other from the National Population Commission which we were told even superceeds that of the hospital. both are titled Birth Certificate. All i had to pay for was the file jacket. which types does d LG give?
thanks

@stadora sorry about d wahala d dry ogi gave u but instead of throwing it away u should have used it as ogi for yourself or even "swallow" for soup or if u r d adventurous type n u bake u might have tried to incorporate it into u baking b seen how it turns out.
Iv also heard of using corn flour as thickener in soups. In this economy nothing us to b wasted o

Not using Maggi will force you to learn how to taste food better. Like, my MiL says my soups taste like crayfish and onions (which she likes). You'll learn how to combine ingredients and understand what it does and be able to adapt recipes from other countries. You will understand how Garlic and Ginger taste and work (like Ginger and White pepper play up the taste of Red pepper and make food more spicy). I make Quaker oats with Pear or Apple, honey, milk, Nutmeg or Cinnamon for Baby E and myself. Most of the spices run from N400 to N700 per cup or pack and Chinese sauces are like N1600 per big bottle and N800 for small bottles of Oyster sauce. Ibadan will have a supermarket to get them, but you'll have to ask an Indian or Chinese person. Or if a mum here can be nice and help you with getting them from Ilupeju or SPAR and sending them to you in Ibadan via road transporters (though I'm a bit worried about some sauces in glass bottle but bubble wrap will secure them).

Look for Cumin, Coriander, Turmeric, Black Pepper, White Pepper, Garam Masala, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Oyster Sauce, Dark soy Sauce, sweet chili Sauce, fish Sauce, sweet and sour sauce. You can buy cans of Coconut milk or make it yourself (it is hard work, I remember that from childhood). Fresh Parsley and Basil are nice and Igbo ladies sell Basil as Nchanwu in the market. There are shops that sell fresh herbs too (Shoprite does and some places in VI) but you can grow them if you have seeds (plus you're in Ibadan you have space to grow stuff).

Nigerian food can be quite repetitive after a while so this helps.

lol @u have space to grow stuff.

I already use garlic, ginger n recently got bay leaves. i have nchawu at home pls how do I use it apart from in soups or pottage.
tnx ma'am

[quote author=Onegai post=49533031]Rhukie, I get my spices from Indian Bazaar and SPAR. Mostly Indian and Chinese sauces and spices. That eliminates the need for cooking with Maggi or MSG (the main source of spice in Indomie which worries medical people). Most are safe for babies, but always check beforehand. Baby E tonight is refusing her own food for my meal: Coconut Curry Shrimp. I'm not giving her the shrimp but just rice and the sauce. All those funky veggies you see in recipes are sold by a man there on Friday's rather than buying Broccoli for N1800 per head from Shoprite or SPAR. We haven't used Maggi this year

wow u haven't used maggi this year? that's good o. been trying to eliminate maggi from my meal but I don't know much about all thus Indian or Chinese spices or what they look like self and I'm not in Lagos o maybe I would have gone to Ilupeju.

pls does anyone know where I can get these spices in Ibadan?

Mamas how far did u go wit the dry fermented pap, did it com out nice?
I ve already soaked my corn n sorghum.
Hopin 2 start d dryin process today.

sorry for replying late, been offline for a while.

I had issues wt drying cos we were told at our weaning class in d hospital not to sundry but room dry so dt flies wld not perch on it n lay their eggs on it. it took a long time for it to dry n when I went to mill it d guy was still telling me dt it wasn't properly dry.

when I went for d next appointment of d weaning class, we were told dt recent research shows dt u can now mill into powder directly without going thru d process of fermenting so dts wat I'm doing now. how did urs go

Hello mummies in the house. I know this issue has been over flogged and I have read back to see foods we can give our LOs. But my question is: what do I FIRST give my baby after being exclusively breastfed? She turns 6 months next week. I already plan to puree the fruit and vegetable options given and also alternate with cereal. So do we start with fruits? Or cereal? And does she start drinking water same day?

Looks like alot of people start with bananas. And best time of day please... lunch? Dinner?
I must sound so naive. FTM here smiley Thank you so much for your responses

Cc: Onegai, babythug, zaynie, liftedhands, tchiwinnie, ozycy, helovesme and all other mums

there's no particular food u should give FIRST.
some people start with formula, I started with fruits.

infact left to me by now u should have started putting small bits of food in her mouth so that she can get used to the different taste. shebi na next week she go turn 6 months. u don try na.

one word of caution is whenever u give her something new allow her get used to d taste before introducing something else. this would also help to detect easily if she is allergic or reacting to any of them.

once u start giving solids, u would need to give water regularly to avoid constipation.

don't worry mesef name ftm n everybody here was a ftm at one point or d other

that's how my dd first started crawling before she started using her hands n legs. but children differ n some might not even crawl before walking.

In my opinion.
The process of pap making is a fermentation process. There's the elimination of germs, breakdown of complex sugar and amino acids into ready to be absorbed sugar and amino acids. etc. There's an increase in the population of the good kind of bacteria that is found in the intestines etc.
I think you shouldn't skip all these processes. Each step is very important.

Modified :the chaff is actually the proteinous part so you may want to skip sieving but please ferment (soak for 48 hours before grinding ).
You may ferment, dry and then mill.

Thanks for taking an interest in my diary.

alright tnx. wld soak it tomorrow.

How long does it take for it to clear off?

OK is Ur baby stooling frequently?
sugar causes our babies to stool and according to d doc when d baby stools frequently, part of d lining of d intestines (I think) would be passed along with d stool. but I was assured its nothing to worry about. iv not seen yours tho but u can also check Google about slimy poo n u would see pics of those that r normal.

@contem tnx for Ur prompt reply. Iv bought d Guinea corn already wld pick n wash it to remove d dirt.

@ soonest uwld have to stir it bit on d fire after mixing like semi or pap.

@ lifted hands I'm told dt even d chaff has its own nutrients o. infact that's how I prepare wheat powder for myself n dh. I just buy d wheat n take to d mill to grind. we either drink it or use it as swallow wt soup.

iv lost a sister too so I think I understand how u feel. I didn't cry immediately, I bottled it all in as I was writing my final papers then n everybody was saying I had to b strong. It was months later when I should have been healing that I started crying.

pls cry as much as u want but don't hurt itself in d process. like others have said u need to b strong for ur baby who still needs Ur attention as he doesn't know what is going on. don't let anybody discourage u from crying u would even heal faster self.
I pray the Lord would comfort.
