Chapter 5
Kyle. Hello. "She said with a pleasant smile.
"Christina... Good to see you again. " Kyle replied ever so politely
  They walked down the stairs together....... In silence. Before he broke the awkward silence,
  "I never knew that your dad was a lawyer by profession."he asked quietly.
"Oh I got the inspiration for my profession from him. "She replied still holding her smile.
Some woman passed them on the wide staircase,  heading in the opposite direction. She grinned seeing them side by side, "Well, don't you two look so lovely together? "
"We are not together " Kyle and Christina said almost at the same time.
"Oh I'm sorry " The woman said as she hurried up the stairs looking very embarrassed.
  Christina smiled at him as she turned to the left to meet someone who was beckoning on her. He quickly turned left to the direction of the gardens. Having no one to talk to at the moment, he decided to go some light reconnaissance. While pretending to admire the gardens he found a vantage point that allowed him to watch Vanessa and her boyfriend but then he saw the glittering diamond on her finger that he hadn't noticed the last time he met her and he had no doubt that she wasengaged to the man smiling by her side. He had to be in love with her to have proposed to her.
                   Love.
It was something he knew he couldn't find, something he knew he didn't deserve. He had been foolish as a teenager to believe that Laura had loved him. But after their brutal break up he had sworn that no lady will ever make him feel so useless so helpless.
      By ten'oclock',  Kyle was ready to call it a night he'd pretty much exhausted his ability to make a good and polite chit chat with a bunch of people he didn't know.
      Tired  from all the conversation, he decided to grab something to drink before getting on the road. He made his way to the bar that had been set up on one end of the terrace and ordered a club soda.
Drink in hand, he leaned against the terrace while watching people. He was on his last sip when something caught his eye. A flash of blue and black caught his eye.
  Truth be told, this wasn't the first time this particular flash of blue and black had caught his eye. Christina had been everywhere at the party. Laughing, smiling, chatting  and mingling with almost everyone. It seemed she was very popular and always in his line of sight with her sleek long legs and that damn dress that fell of her shoulder. It made a man think things. Made a man think-
                Sin.
Things a man definitely had no business thinking about a woman who wasn't his wife, a woman he'd gone out of his way to avoid throughout the night.
  Brushing those thoughts aside, Kyle set his empty glass on the tray next to the bar. Just then, his ear caught the conversation of the group standing in front of him.
    "...... heard they have started planning the wedding."said a woman.
  "Wasn't that the time that Christina was supposed to get married to that young successful engineer?" asked the second woman standing beside her.
   "Yes. Probably she is cursed. I know she has always had a bad history with relationships. "the first woman snickered
A third woman jumped in, shushing the first two, "ssshh. Christina's standing right there, "She whispered.
  Kyle looked over his shoulder and saw Christina in a mid conversation with two men who if he recalled  correctly  from the whirlwind of introductions,were her colleagues. She stood closest to the gossiping  women, so it was certainly possible she'd heard their gossip about her. But her expression gave nothing away as she carried on, business as usual.
  He found himself consciously saying it was time to call it a night. He found Nessa and Zack and had every intention of a saying a quick goodbye. But unluckily for him, guy Zack seemed to like him alot knowing that he was a reporter and worked in the newspaper company thrilled him the more. Zack introduced him to yet more people -People who were as fascinated to hear that he was a reporter. They immediately hit him with a stand litany of questions. So you are a reporter? (Yes). How is that like? (Fun. So much fun)
   And so on.
Finally he made his getaway twenty minutes later. He decided to walk around the house instead of going back inside,thinking it will be his quickest escape route from his new fans. He immediately hung his jacket on his arm as he followed the paved walkway past the swimming pool and guest house and into a more secluded garden he hadn't noticed.
  Sitting on a bench tucked away from the rest of the party, was Christina.

Chapter 4
Kyle realised he was extremely nervous as he walked into the Summer's compound. He tried to look as simple as possible wearing a tie-less white shirt that he left first two buttons open with a navy blue jacket . He greeted one or two people he had met around as he tried to scan the area for Christina. A waiter stopped to offer him a glass of champagne which he declined . But while he turned down the offer his eyes landed on someone talking in a group.

                   Christina.
Since she wasn't looking, Kyle let his eyes linger for a moment. Admittedly he didn't know alot about women's fashion, but he assumed that her blue dress sported some fancy designer label. And whatever she'd spent, it was worth every damn penny.  The dress cut asymmetrically across her legs and one ruffled sleeve draped teasingly off her right shoulder with a combination of red high heels she had on. The look was both classy, hot and sexy as hell.
  She kept her hand on the right side of her hips as she talked to a couple who looked old enough to be her parents. The couple were engrossed in what she was saying. As if sensing Kyle's gaze, she looked over and caught his eye.
  There was something about her eyes. The glitter in it seemed to change in the twinkle of an eye. One moment there was this glitter of happiness and spark of joy bit in the twinkle of an eye it was all gone. He tried his best to care, he had just one mission to complete and slip away as easily as he slipped into town. She smiled at him and quickly turned to continue get discussion
  For the next half hour, he did the rounds introducing himself to those who cared to listen, making polite conversations. Then there was a clinking of glasses as a man he guessed as Christina's father moved to the center of the terrace to make a toast. The people who'd been mingling out on the lawn came closer. There seemed to be alot of people at the party.
  "Caroline and I want to thank all of you for coming out tonight," He began, with the air of confidence of a man used to speaking in front of others. " it's wonderful and amazing that so many of you could join me and my family on this occasion, I feel like I've gathered the whole town"
  The crowd broke out in laughter.
  "When I was first given the Burrety case, after Burrety was caught, the man who haunted our dreams for so many years. " he paused,  them continued, " I hesitated because his son was one of the best lawyer in town but on a second thought this town deserved some justice after what he had put people through," He took a deep breath, " we won the case and Burrety as been put behind bars"
  The whole crowd started clapping and he continued after the crowd had quieted, "so for that I want thank you all for your support. Drink til you are drunk, there's enough room in my house for y'all.
The crowd laughed again, "I hope there are also pretty ladies for us too,."Somebody shouted from the crowd.
The crowd laughed again.
Jack lifted his glass,"So with that I'd like to toast to success".
  "To success " Everyone shouted as they clinked their glasses of champagne.
The crowd broke off into various groups, chatting and mingling. Seeing that he had no one else to talk to, he decided to check out the gardens. He headed for the stairs and as luck will have it, he met the lady he'd been dying to have a conversation with all night.
         Christina!!.

Chapter 3
Christina hurriedly walked out of the door of her father's  Law chambers as she headed to the park. She was to meet Nessa at noon for lunch but she knew Nessa would not arrive for the next 30 minutes. Lateness has always been her style and Christina has had no choice but to accept her like that.
   Christina couldn't help but smile at the serenity of the park. The fresh air from the park always had a way of calming her nerves.She glanced at her phone and saw a text message from Kyle which read
     'Hello Sunshine. Hope you're having a great day. Take care of yourself. "
She couldn't help but smile at his sweetness. For the past one week since they met he had been sending in random messages every day. She was still trying to make up 100 reasons why he was so nice to her when Nessa walked in
Hello baby girl, You seemed miles away. "Nessa said.
"Maybe I was continents away."She smiled. "Wow this gown is nicceee"
"Zack got me the gown yesterday. " she turned around to display her curves, "I look sexy right? "
"Girl,  you look more than sexy. Even Donald Trump could get the cops on you for looking hot and sexy as hell. "
"Awwwn..thanks girl anyways how did the meeting with the alpha male go? I want details, I mean every single detail. "
    Alpha male?? Probably he was. His presence alone seemed to dominate the whole cafeteria.
      And dominate her!!
"Well nothing much happened in the 3 hours that we talked " she said truthfully.
"What??  3 hours and you are telling me that nothing happened. Baby girl you should know that I won't take that as an answer so spill I want every hot and cold detail. "
"Fine!! We talked about authors  books, the country and everything else. "
"Hmm, "Nessa murmured evidently still waiting for more.
"At the end he asked for my number "
"Damn!! How did you know that's the part I've waiting for "Nessa said laughing.
She laughed and continued, "He's been calling and texting everyday for the past one week"
"Now that is really bad sign"
Christina watched all the colour drain from her face, "What do you mean bad sign? "
"Tina, you remember my list of 50 things to know a good relationship?"
"Jeez, Nessa are you kidding me? I thought you dropped the idea of that list on the last day of college. "She said laughing intensely.
"I did but that doesn't mean it's not still applicable " she said arching her brows.
"Fine. Fine. Miss Vanessa Martins what rule is applicable here out of your 50 life saving wonderful rules. "Sarcasm evidently dripping from her voice.
"It's simple. When a guy rushes into q relationship too fast, he will take the exit door too fast. " Nessa said
"Nessa!! Who said anything about a relationship?  Who said Kyle is in for a relationship? Who said I'm in for a relationship?  She said raising her voice.
"Baby girl,  Relax. "Nessa said bluntly.
"I'm really not in for a relationship. "She said smoothly.
"Tina I've known you all my life so I know when you are lyingShe said laughing.
"What do you mean? "She asked with wide eyes
"Whenever you are lying or saying something you don't mean your eyes start to twitch. I saw the way you looked at him with that careful stare of admiration "
"Y-y-y-yess." She stuttered. I can't deny the fact that I admire him.Nessa for crying out loud he looks like the Roman god Zeus. " she said smiling
"At least that's a step forward in the right direction "
"Nessa I don't want to rush into anything not after what happened.."
"With Ben? "she asked
"Yes with Ben. I dontvwnay that to happen ever again. Probably according to St Paul, I'm meant to be single. " she said forcing a smile.
"You are totally not serious. Ben was a total jerk so whatever happened wasn't your fault. "She paused,  "and now I'm here and I got your back thats why we are gonna use my list"
"I'm not liking this already but where do we go from here? "
"I will come up with a plan before the day runs out. " she said triumphantly
"I should say thank you but I will save it till I hear that crazy plan of yours anyways I got to go now."
"No problem girl. I will call you tonight"
They hugged and Christina rushed out of the park.

Later that evening Nessa called her about the plan and as Christina guessed it was an extremely crazy plan but she agreed on it.

Chapter two
Wow!! "Christina murmured again. Nessa had given the exact description of him even leaving some important details. He had short black hair that was neatly carved to suit his face. His hair color complemented his eyes that reflected both brown and black from afar. He smiled and waved at a boy at the other end of the cafe and her heart almost stopped His lips!!  His smile!!  Damn!!  It was the exact definition of a perfect smile. The Superman T-shirt he wore clung to his body like a second skin and showed off his biceps. She tried to mentally calculate his height but then she saw him moving towards thier table. "Oh my God " she exclaimed as she tried to  falsify her concentration on the novel on the table.  She had read Americanah by Chimamanda Adiche,  a million times but she forced herself to concentrate on the words.
  "Hello ladies. I hope I'm not interrupting. " he smiled.
Hmm. Not really I was just about to take my leave before you walked in. " Nessa said evidently playing matchmaker.
"Oh that's bad. I'm Kyle by the way. "
  "I'm Vanessa but you can call me Nessa. "
She noticed their eyes boring through her clothes so she raised her head from her novel. He smiled at her, "Sorry I didn't get your name. "
Christina rolled her eyes, "That's because you never asked. "
"Well I'm asking now. "He flashed his perfect smile again
"Christina."
"Tina girl I'll stop by the house later for dinner with your dad. "She smiled and sauntered towards the door.
Wow!! "Kyle said bringing her back to the cafe from where ever she had travelled to. "I will take it that you guys are pretty close. "
"Yes. I have known her all my life. She is the closest thing to a sister that I've got" She said managing a smile.
"That's sweet though I will take it that you like that novel more"
"I'm just an extremely big fan of Chimamanda Adiche. " she said excitedly
"Same here.I love Chinua Achebe,  Buchi Emecheta, Ben Okri even Cyprian Ekwensi."
"Now this is becoming very suspicious how can you love all the writers I love."She said in between laughter.
"Now that is really suspicious "He joined in the laughter. "But you read American novels right? "
"Yes I do! Alot anyway "

"So tell me some"
"Well for the start I just finished the fifty shades series last week then... "
"Hold on!! You mean you have read fifty shades of grey,  fifty shades darker, fifty shades freed? " he asked with a smirk on his face.
"Yes I have. "She grinned proudly.
"That's.. Ermm..interesting. so can I say E. L James is your favorite author? "
She couldn't help but smile at how much he knew about books, "Not really though she holds a place among my favorite authors but I'm obsessed with Lynne Graham. "She secretly hoped he didn't know who she was speaking of but he surprised her once again.
"Romantic genre?? I sincerely didn't see that coming at all. "He laughed.
She joined in the laughter, "I swear I don't know how that woman got me hooked but I've virtually read every piece of work she's written. "
  "Now that's real obsession "
They talked about some other books and authors including Nora Roberts,  Sandra Brown,  Cynthia Eden and many others, argued and laughed.
"So what do you do? "
"Huh? " She asked confused.
"I mean what do you do for a living? " he clarified.
"oh. I'm a lawyer by profession.
"I suspected. " he said laughing intensely
" Meaning? " she asked with wide eyes
"You have been arguing intensely with me like we were in the court room. "
Glancing at her watch she realised she had spent more than 3 hours with him which had disrupted her schedule. "Kyle I'm really sorry I have get to the salon before I meet my dad for dinner.
"Oh I'm so sorry "He said apologetically.
"That's okay. You know it takes two to tango. "She gave him a warm smile. "Maybe we could meet for lunch or a cup of tea some other time and talk about more books that's if you don't.. I don't -" she stuttered trying to find the right words.
"I'd love that" he intervened ."So can I have your phone number? "He asked politely .
Christina had this inner battle in her telling her that it could be a good thing or a bad thing or-" oh that's no big deal"
Kyle handed her his phone and she punched her number into it and handed it back to him.
"Love to hear from you Christina. "Kyle said trying to hide the smile in his voice.
Same. "She said as she walked out of the cafeteria into her black SUV at the parking lot. As she pulled away from the parking lot she saw him wave and she waved back with a smile.

Looking into the mirror realising today was a success he smiled. Watching her smile and laugh only increased his anger.Trying to remove the contact lens from his eyes. He hated contact lenses but if he had to keep up with his revenge plan then contact lenses will do the job for now. He just had to eliminate the one thing that she loved most. He smiled as the thought of the pain that will flow through her crossed his mind.  Revenge was the only thing keeping him and Christina Summers.

Chapter one

Christina Summers smiled as she looked outside the cafeteria window of Bertmont. The summer sun always reminded her of how much she missed her childhood days. Throughout her childhood years her favorite of all seasons as always been summer. During summer she was allowed to visit the zoo, the park and a billion other places that she wasn't allowed to visit during winter. Thinking of all the fun she had throughout her childhood she realised its always been her dad all the way. Though he was the best lawyer in town, he would bath her, prepare breakfast, lunch, drop her off at school and still be home in time to prepare dinner. Most people wondered if her mum was still alive but yeah, her mum was hale and hearty but was a work freak who put her job in front of everything and everyone. While growing up Christina thought it was annoying but she got used to it along the way. Her mum didn't even care about her or her dad.  Few times she had heard them arguing about sex and she insisting that she was stressed out so he should have sex outside and she doesn't mind. What kind of wife says such
     "Tina girl, your eyebrows are knitted together which tells me you are thinking hard about something  anyways that aside have you met the newest hottie in town? " Vanessa Martins her best friend,  sister,  beauty queen coupled with her billion other smart qualities had a way of just popping out of no where which was annoying and a little bit cute.
  "Not really Nessa. " She said managing a smile
Girl you really need to get a very close look at this guy" Vanessa said in a rush, her eyes twinkling with the excitement.
  Christina couldn't help but laugh at the excitement in her eyes, "Nessa in as much as I love you,  I love Zack more so don't let him hear this, it will break his heart. "She said trying to control her laughter.
  "Baby Girl I'm offended but Tina!! "She exclaimed excitedly "I know I have a hot and smoky boyfriend who I'm head over heels in love with but you my friend are as single as hell and I'm damn serious about this guy. For crying out loud he is hotter than Ben in every way ". Nessa said trying to contain her excitement.
        Ben!!
At the thought of Ben, fresh pain squeezed through her chest proving that she was still damn hurt." so let's see, how is he like? " she said trying to hide her pain and hurt.
   "Perfect!! " Nessa screamed.
"Perfect?? Nessa for crying out loud how can someone be perfect on planet earth "
"Fine!! But he is literally perfect. He has a arranged set of white teeth against small kissable lips. He has a wall defined face with a perfect smile. Evidently he is about 6 ft tall or there about. In summary he is hottt" she concluded in a sing song voice.
  "Wow I'm speechless "She said though she thought Nessa was exaggerating but if what she described was true then he matched the physical description of the Prince Charming of her dreams. The Prince Charming she had been dreaming of since she was twelve. "But Nessa I'm not...
Sssshhh!! " Nessa exclaimed signaling me to keep my mouth shut "speaking of the devil" she said between her teeth.
  They both turned to the doorway of the cafeteria and evidently they weren't the only ones staring blankly at him.
