Health / Fourth Covid Vaccine Doses May Be Needed Sooner Than Expected by BarrGerald(m): 4:04pm On Dec 12, 2021
Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said Wednesday that people might need a fourth Covid-19 shot sooner than expected after preliminary research shows the new omicron variant can undermine protective antibodies generated by the vaccine the company developed with BioNTech.
Pfizer and BioNTech released results from an initial lab study Wednesday morning that showed a third shot is effective at fighting the omicron variant, while the initial two-dose vaccination series dropped significantly in its ability to protect against the new strain. However, the two-dose series likely still offers protection against getting severely sick from omicron, the companies said.

Bourla noted that a preliminary study by the company was based on a synthetic, lab-created copy of the variant and more data is needed from tests against the real virus. Those real-world results will be more accurate and are expected in the next two weeks, the Pfizer CEO said.

"When we see real-world data, will determine if the omicron is well covered by the third dose and for how long. And the second point, I think we will need a fourth dose," Bourla told CNBC's "Squawk Box."

Bourla previously projected that a fourth shot would be needed 12 months after the third dose. "With omicron we need to wait and see because we have very little information. We may need it faster," he said.

The Pfizer CEO said what's most important right now is to roll out third doses for the winter. Public health officials are worried about a spike in Covid infections as people gather more indoors to escape the cold.

Nairaland / General / Breaking: Anxiety, As Lppc Pleads Error, Replaces San-designate by BarrGerald(m): 7:45pm On Oct 22, 2021
There is anxiety within legal circles as the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) today admitted an error in its listing of newly designated Senior Advocates of Nigeria.

In a press release obtained by CITY LAWYER, the committee stated that there was a “mix-up” in the list issued yesterday, saying: “In the press release issued by this office yesterday, 21st October 2021 announcing the list of successful applicants for the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Nworka, Chidi Benjamin Esq. listed as No. 43 was mistakenly included in the list of Advocate Appointees. The actual successful applicant that ought to be in the said list is OSAKA, BENJAMIN NWORA, ESQ.”

Continuing, the LPPC said: “The mix-up is highly regretted and we apologise to all persons affected by it. A corrected version of the list in the order (sic) seniority at the outer Bar is hereby is hereby listed below for record purposes.”

Worried by this development, a senior lawyer-turned-broadcaster wrote: “So the LPPC made one lawyer, his family and friends to celebrate in vain yesterday! I’m still in shock that this error happened.”

However, a leading lawyer who is familiar with the process told CITY LAWYER that it is a “Genuine error,” adding: “They mixed up two names : OSAKA, BENJAMIN NWORA and NWORKA, BENJAMIN CHIDI. The former is the successful candidate. When they were typing out the names they picked the latter. I think it’s a genuine mistake, particularly for people who are not familiar with Igbo names.”

It is recalled that the committee yesterday brushed aside the call by the influential Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN) to elevate 72 senior lawyers to the coveted rank. BOSAN had called for a suspension of the awards for three years in order to enable a holistic reform of the award process.

Politics / Re: Concede VP Slot To Southwest, George Urges Southeast by BarrGerald(m): 6:39pm On Oct 11, 2018
Bode George has made a lot of sense. In any event, vote for APC to whose peril? VP is already with the South West, they have nothing at stake.
lonelydora:
Mbanu! They can't try it. Atiku can't try it. PDP can't try it.

Pick VP from any region that is not SE, and see how we all will boycott the election. Whether you pick from SW or not, they will vote for APC because of their supremacy there. And they won't trade Osibanjo who they see as a technocrat for another Yoruba VP.

Atiku please don't allow these APC miscreants cajole you into picking VP from SW. All the people shouting for SW VP are all APC members.

You need SE and SS votes. May God give Atiku the wisdom of Solomon.
