Politics / President Jonathan's 2014 Christmas Message To The Nation by Beazy(f): 8:50pm On Dec 24, 2014
A message from president Jonathan
Dear Compatriots,
I greet and felicitate with you all once again as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. I join all of our Christian compatriots in giving thanks to God Almighty for the divine gift of Jesus Christ the Messiah whose earthly incarnation we commemorate today.
As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ who the Prophet Isaiah heralded as the Prince of Peace and Wonderful Counselor, I believe it is very appropriate that we all, Christians and non-Christians alike, reflect more deeply on the virtues and ideals which the Messiah espoused during his earthly mission.
To my mind, there can be no doubt that the greater internalization of the virtues of love for our fellowmen, tolerance, Godliness, honesty, fairness to others, selflessness, and peaceful co-existence with others, by all adult Nigerians, and the inculcation of the same in our youth, will definitely help our dear nation to overcome most of its present challenges.
Peace and love for others, especially, were a constant refrain in the Messiah’s teachings and admonitions to mankind.
Therefore, as we celebrate his birth, I urge all Nigerians to offer special prayers for a greater manifestation of divine peace in our country and the vanquishing of all demons of hatred, divisiveness and disunity in our midst.
As we celebrate Christmas, let us also remember and offer special prayers for all of our countrymen, women and children who have suffered and continue to suffer untold hardship, deprivation and death at the hands of terrorists and insurgents.
Let us also continue to pray for our gallant soldiers and security agents who remain at the forefront of the national effort to overcome terrorism and violent extremism, even as the rest of the nation celebrates Christmas and the coming New Year.
In this season of goodwill, I urge all patriotic Nigerians to rededicate themselves to doing all within their powers to support the brave men and women of our armed forces in the ongoing war against terrorism, and also support the Federal Government’s efforts to provide more succour to the hapless victims of terrorist atrocities.
The Victims’ Support Fund which we have established to raise additional funds to assist our compatriots who have been adversely affected by continuing insecurity in parts of our country remains active.
I call on all individuals and corporate organisations who have not yet done so, to donate more generously to the Fund which is being efficaciously deployed to ease the sufferings of victims of terrorist violence in the country.
Dear Compatriots, we are also celebrating this Christmas against the background of preparations for next year’s general elections.
I seize this opportunity to reassure the nation that my administration will give the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) all necessary support to ensure that it delivers very free, fair, credible and acceptable elections in 2015.
National security agencies will also be given all necessary support to enhance their ability to ensure that the elections which should strengthen democracy in our country are peaceful and violence free.
I urge our political class to be law- abiding and place the greater interests of our nation above all personal or sectional interests in the countdown to the elections.
Let us all be more statesman-like, conduct issues-based campaigns, and eschew the promotion of falsehood, division and hatred of others as we seek the votes of our countrymen in what should be a peaceful competition among contending points of view for the progress and development of our dear nation.
I remain convinced that God Almighty is still with us as a nation even in the midst of our current challenges which we shall surely overcome with greater unity of purpose, dedication, commitment and perseverance.
Let this year’s celebration of the birth of Christ the Messiah rekindle, strengthen and reaffirm our faith in our national ability to overcome all challenges, with God on our side.
I wish you all very happy Christmas celebrations.

Politics / Pics: Parents Of Missing Chibok Girl Say Its Going To Be A Bad Xmas For Them by Beazy(f): 8:06am On Dec 24, 2014
One of the parents of the missing Chibok girls says it will be a bad Christmas for them this year as their daughter has still not returned. In an interview with CNN, the parents of the missing girl described her as a very studious girl
"She is brilliant. She likes reading. She liked to go to school,” her father told CNN.
"She used to tell me one day she would finish school and become somebody. She loved studies; she used to assist the younger ones with their homework. She used to fall asleep with her books in her arms.” her mother said
The missing girls father says during festive periods like Christmas, the family was always “complete and happy”, but that as it is now it won’t be the same saying . “One of us is not there, how can it be the same”? “There is nothing I can say; it has happened. It is a bad Christmas, but there is nothing we can do.”
The mother says she believes that one day her daughter would come back home.
“Her siblings know that she is not here. They themselves know what is happening, having come out of war. They keep asking me, ‘when is she coming back?’ But I keep telling them to keep trusting God, maybe He will hear us. I always feel pain inside of me, but I am trusting God that one day, she she will come back.”
The missing girl’s father added
“I tell the Children that she will come back, they should keep praying and hoping that she is still alive and that she will come back. They will come back. They will come back. That many girls? If they are still alive on the face of the earth, they will come back" he said

Politics / Jonathan Condones Corruption, Says Osinbajo by Beazy(f): 5:57am On Dec 23, 2014
The Vice-Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has said that one of the fundamental problems bedeviling the nation is the failure of the President Goodluck Jonathan-led Federal Government to tackle corruption.
Osinbajo stated this during a Twitter chat tagged#AskProfOsinbajoon Monday.
He said it was saddening that under Jonathan’s government, “there is no consequence for corruption.”
He added, “One of the fundamental problems is that there is no consequence for corruption. I think that what everyone will agree to about a Buhari government is that it will not tolerate corruption.
“If the number one citizen has a clear and uncompromising anti-corruption stand then the anti-corruption policy will work. If the number one and number two citizens have a strong stance on anti-corruption then our policy can succeed.”
Osinbajo added that a Buhari Presidency would bequeath to Nigerians a country where everyone would have a good job and lives a descent live in peace security.
He also accused President Goodluck Jonathan of politicising the fight against the Islamist sect, Boko Haram.
Osinbajo argued that the present administration had failed to “sincerely identify” the menace posed by the insurgent group.
The law professor also blamed the failure of the security forces to contain the excesses of Boko Haram in the on-going war against terrorism on corruption.
“The current administration has politicised Boko Haram. The corruption around defence funds has created a situation where soldiers are not well equipped and motivated.
“General Muhammadu Buhari wiped off Maitatsine, another Islamic insurgency during his administration, by sincerely identifying the problem as a challenge to the authority of the state to maintain law and order.
“The administration took command and funded the military transparently and that is what we need to do now to end this insurgency,” Osinbajo said.
Meanwhile, a former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Kanu Agabi (SAN), has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to be steadfast in the fight against corruption in the country.
He said that the operatives of the EFCC must carry out their responsibilities with the conviction that society had put them in a position to enforce the nation’s laws against corruption.
The former AGF said that he had the belief that the commission had credible personnel with the capacity to enforce the laws of the land.
A statement signed by the Head of Media and publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, quoted Agabi as having made the comment while delivering the Special Guest’s address during the commission’s maiden ‘Rewards and Recognition’ ceremony in Abuja on Monday.

Politics / Tinubu’s Foundation Donates Food Items & Cash To The Needy In Lagos [Photo] by Beazy(f): 8:35pm On Dec 21, 2014
A former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has, in the spirit of the festive season, put smiles on the faces of the poor and the needy, by distributing 2,000 bags of rice, vegetable oil, sugar and a little cash gift to people from various parts of Lagos State.
Speaking yesterday when his Foundation, the Bola Tinubu Foundation, BTF, distributed the food items and cash to the less-privileged members of the society, he said he was moved by the level of poverty in the country at a time like this, because “poverty is poverty; it knows no religion and it has no tribal mark; and it affects everyone of us”.

Asiwaju Tinubu, who is a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), enjoined Nigerians to be their brothers’ keepers, particularly those who cannot afford to buy food during the festive seasons.

Tinubu noted that the Foundation gives out food stuff to the needy three times a year, when Nigerians are celebrating Sallah, Ramadan and Christmas.

His words: “I wish everybody a Merry Christmas, a joyful and peaceful Nigeria in the New Year. The country is for all of us; there is no religious poverty. Poverty knows no religion; it has no tribal mark; poverty is poverty because it affects every one of us.

“That is why I provide relief for those who ordinarily would be left with nothing during this period. I try to put something in the envelope, to provide succour for them on a day when everybody is rejoicing about the birth of the Saviour. That is the joy I derive from this”.

A mammoth crowd turned out at the Foundation’s office in Lagos Island, mostly women, to receive the gifts.
A Special Assistant to Tinubu, Mr. Femi Oyatolu, said yesterday’s event, which is dubbed the Bola Tinubu Foundation Christmas Outreach 2014, was the fifth in the series of such gestures during Christmas celebrations.

He said the Foundation believes in reaching out to the poor and the needy, no matter how small, to give them something to celebrate with their families at this time of the year.

He added, “Basically, the programme is for the poor and the needy, particularly those who cannot afford to put food on their tables during festivities like Christmas. What His Excellency is trying to do is to give back to the society. At least, he tries to give them something that can put smiles on their faces. The crowd out there goes to show the level of poverty in the country”.

Politics / Police Recovered Guns From Agbaje, George’s Thugs – Obanikoro by Beazy(f): 5:14am On Dec 18, 2014
A former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, has accused a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Chief Olabode George, and the governorship candidate of the party in the state, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, of recruiting armed thugs to achieve their aims at the governorship primary held on December 8.
The former minister said, “I also saw the police recovered five guns and rounds of ammunition and live cartridges from the thugs brought by Chief Olabode George and Mr. Jimi Agbaje, a co-aspirant.”
This is contained in an affidavit he filed before a Federal High Court in Abuja, in support of his suit numbered FHC/ABJ/CS/994/2014, challenging the conduct of the December 8, 2014 governorship primary in which Agbaje was declared as the winner.
Obanikoro, with 343 votes, came second behind Agbaje who polled 432 votes to clinch the party’s ticket. Three other candidates participated in the poll.
But the former minister is, through his suit filed on December 15, 2014, urging the court to nullify the primary and order a fresh one to be conducted on the grounds of alleged electoral irregularities that marred the December 8, 2014 exercise.
On Wednesday, the presiding judge, Justice Ahmed Mohammed, following Obanikoro’s counsel, Chief Chris Uche (SAN), moved an ex parte application, asked the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission to appear in court on December 23.
He directed the two defendants in the suit to appear in court to show cause why he (the judge) should not make an order of interim injunction restraining them from presenting or accepting any name as the PDP governorship candidate in Lagos State, pending the determination of the suit.
The judge, on Wednesday, declined to grant the restraining order as sought by the plaintiff’s counsel through the ex parte application.
Rather than grant the order, Justice Mohammed asked the plaintiff to put the defendants on notice for them to appear in court to show cause why the order should not be granted.
The former minister alleged in his suit filed on December 18 that the election was marred by electoral irregularities, such as over-voting, intimidation of his delegates by thugs loyal to George and Agbaje as well as improper accreditation of delegates.
He said there were 806 delegates accredited for the primaries but “surprisingly from the 806 accredited delegates, the electoral officers returned a total number of 866 votes.”
He added that the accreditation of delegates which ought to last between 8am and 12pm, as stipulated by the Electoral Guidelines published by the PDP, did not start until as late as 6.30pm.
In an affidavit personally deposed to by him, Obanikoro stated, “That the thugs earlier brought by Chief Olabode George and Mr. Jimi Agbaje, a co-aspirant, at this point began to disrupt the venue by throwing bottles, stones and firing gunshots in the direction of the delegates loyal to me and preventing other delegates loyal to me from entering the venue.
“That the gunshots attracted another detachment of policemen, who engaged the thugs in a gun and tear gas battle during which many of the delegates loyal to me ran for their dear lives to avoid being caught in the crossfire between the police and the armed thugs.
“That I know as a fact that many of my delegates who ran for their dear lives in the ensuing violence and gun battle never returned and were consequently disenfranchised, as it took the police several hours to restore some semblance of normalcy.
“That I saw that the police recovered five guns and rounds of ammunitions and live cartridges from the thugs brought by Chief Olabode George and Mr. Jimi Agbaje , a co-aspirant.”
