As it stands, many Nigerian youths especially from the south east part of the country will not vote again in subsequent presidential election as they have lost hope in the system (A system designed to not favour them politically)

Politics / 2023 Election: Why Nigeria Must Be Restructured by Bebigiby: 5:49am On Mar 01, 2023
Before the presidential election I laid out my thought regarding the presidential election as a waste of time see link

https://www.nairaland.com/7578573/take-tinubu-atiku-obi-sowore

Now that the presidential election result is out and Tinubu has won, I know that many Nigerians will once again flood social media to fight each other over who should've won and who rigged the election. I warned Nigerians that we can not achieve any meaningful progress in this flawed system of government that promotes injustice. As I said in previous post, the only way forward to salvage what is left of Nigeria is to do away with this current system of government and replace it with a decentralized system of government where states are made autonomous and control it's resources with little or no Federal influence. If this is not feasible, we can go back to regional government system with a modern tune.

The 2023 presidential election has shown many Nigerians that our oppressors can not be removed through elections and are not ready to relinquish power. These evil men and women have perfected the art of "divide and rule" and they are ready to do whatever they can to maintain the status quo.

Nigeria will not work and can not work as long as we practice a centralized system of government that enables them to deceive the people with one Nigeria mantra while they plunder the nation's resources. We can not move forward as a nation when there is widespread injustice and oppression. Instead of protesting over election rigging, let us protest for restructuring. If there is anytime to fight for a restructured Nigeria, now will be a good time to start..... As they say you can't keep doing the same thing and expect a different result.

Regarding the aggressive Obidients (Obi's supporters), I hope you've learnt something from this election... Nigeria can't work in its current form.... A presidential centralized system of government can not work in a multi-ethnic, multi-linguistic, multi-religious, multi-cultural society like Nigeria. A decentralized system of government with strong regions is what we need for Nigeria to heal.....

Politics / My Take On Tinubu, Atiku, Obi, Sowore And 2023 Election by Bebigiby: 10:43am On Feb 21, 2023
The 2023 election is here and many Nigerians have made up their mind on who they will vote and support in the upcoming election. Due to media propaganda and intensive campaign, 3 candidates are poised to emerge as potential winner in the upcoming presidential election. These candidates are Tinubu, Atiku and Obi who are seasoned politicians with a history in governance have enjoyed massive media coverage since beginning of the election campaign season. Among these candidates, there have been a collective notion among Nigerian youths that Peter Obi is the best option due to his business pedigree and rhetorics of turning Nigeria from a consuming to a producing nation. Also there are many Nigerians who see a Peter Obi presidency as a means to actualize their quest for an Igbo presidency hence their support is purely tribal and not ideological.

Another candidate with massive following is Atiku Abubakar, who has succeeded in galvanizing the people of the northern part of country to support his campaign and now seem to be the favoured candidate to win the election going by recent gossips.

In 2015, Buhari who ran as a messiah (Sai Baba), won the election but in the last 8 years, we can see the carnage, bad policies and punishment unleashed by his government on Nigerians. It is glaring that we were deceived to vote for him by APC propaganda that many who supported Buhari in 2015 are cursing him today. Now another election is coming up and the vultures have gathered again, the propaganda is on and many politicians are doing whatever they can to deceive and cajole the masses to vote for them again. In their quest to win, they have succeeded again in dividing us as we see some Nigerians glamouring for Obi while fighting others over Tinubu and the rest supporting Atiku while fighting others over Obi. It is obvious that we may make the same mistake we made in 2015 if we fail to learn from history.

In this online forum called Nairaland, I can see that there are many APC and Labour party agents working tirelessly to promote their party candidates, I've observed that majority of Nairaland users are either for Bola Tinubu or Peter Obi, these users are passionate about their candidate and bully you on discussion threads if you say anything negative about their candidate. I've read many threads were these users list numerous achievements of their candidate but even with all said and done, I doubt if electing Bola Tinubu or Peter Obi will bring about the salvation we seek from the bad and evil government of Buhari. The reason I doubt is because I've come to the conclusion that Nigeria's root problem is foundational and not political. We are people who uphold our ethnic, tribal and religious affinities above national identity and ideologies. If nothing else proves my assertion I believe the lingering injustice on the Biafra agitation, Niger delta agitation, Buhari's
8 years rule and the Fulani herdsmen bloody pogrom validates it. If we are to redeem this country called Nigeria I don't see this election as a means to do it, what we need is justice for the country to heal. I believe we can achieve this through restructuring.

For justice to reign and to keep Nigeria as one nation, we need a new decentralized system of government where states are truly autonomous with little federal influence over state resources. I wish Nigerians will push for restructuring instead of participating in elections that will bring back our oppressors, the same evil people who will continue this flawed system of government that has not worked and may not work as I said Nigeria's problem is foundational. Unfortunately, many Nigerians are yet to see the need to fight for a better system of government that will reflect our true identity and uphold justice for all. This is why I am worried that we are going to make the same mistake again. As they say you can't keep doing the same thing and expect a different result.

Regarding 2023 presidential election, many people I know are supporting Peter Obi, some of them see him as having a divine mandate to salvage Nigeria, kinda like the Buhari effect of 2015 election. Even though I don't see this election as means to our salvation, in my opinion if I am to vote in this election, I won't vote for Obi, I will vote for Sowore. Personally, I am yet to come to terms with the craze over Peter Obi because by this time last year Obi was a PDP presidential contestant. In 2019, he ran with Atiku on the same platform so I think if he wins, his government policies won't be different from an Atiku presidency. He will be a continuation of the status quo maybe with a little difference (In terms of stopping stealing of public funds). I doubt if Obi will be courageous to recover looted funds or make critical reforms. It is glaring that a Peter Obi government won't be able to call Buhari and members of his cabinet to account for the trillions misappropriated in the last 8 years. One major reason I will vote for Sowore is because of his fearless tenacity and unrelenting quest for justice. He has been consistent over the years in the struggle against Nigeria's bad leaders. In 2015 he like other Nigerians who fell for the APC propaganda supported Buhari but ever since Buhari fellout with Nigerians, Sowore has been critical of the bad policies and has been consistent in publicly condemning it while Obi has been silent. I understand that the fact that Sowore supported Buhari in 2015 and his inexperience in government (No record of past political appointments) have been issues many Nigerians have with him but if I am to vote, I will vote for him. Yes he (Omoyele Sowore) is not perfect but I believe he will be a better president than Peter Obi.

Above all, I hope that Nigerians will one day see the need to find a lasting solution to our national issues which is to restructure the country to truly reflect equity and uphold justice so as to bring about lasting peace and prosperity.

You're right but in my opinion I blame the national assembly for the mess and their failure to curtail Buhari's excesses.... I hope Nigerians will understand the importance of electing credible people in the upcoming NASS elections. I believe Nigeria will move forward when we have a national assembly that truly represents the people.... For the sake of posterity, Emefiele still needs to be held accountable for economic damages he has caused as CBN governor....

He was not the head of judiciary when he sacked Oneghen the chief justice of Nigeria.

You just can't be shifting blamed up and down as if you are afraid to place it where it ought to be.

Without Buhari's permission, this Naira redesigning will never have taken place. So he is not a fool, he should have asked some questions before even given his ascents to it.

And he should give sanctions if what they told him was false.

Please stop making the world feel like Buhari is a Robot that lacks sense of reasoning.

According to the report, certain functions you think are disabled on Apple devices are still active in the background and collecting data without user's consent, that's stealing..... Or do you've another word for it....?

Crime / Apple Stealing Iphone And Mac Users Data? by Bebigiby: 11:12pm On Feb 10, 2023
Apple is famous for breaking records, and apparently it’s just as competitive when it comes to getting sued. The company was just hit with a fourth class-action lawsuit over accusations surreptitious iPhone data collection. Three of those lawsuits were filed in January alone. Impressive.

In November, Gizmodo exclusively reported on research demonstrating that your iPhone collects hyper-detailed data about what you do on its apps, like the App Store, Apple Stocks, Apple Music, Apple News, and more—even when you turn off the iPhone Analytics privacy setting, which explicitly promises to stop the snooping.

Days later, an iPhone user filed a class-action lawsuit against the company in California. A Pennsylvanian followed up with a second class-action case in January, and a New York resident, apparently feeling left out, filed a third case a week and a half later. Now, there’s a fourth class-action lawsuit from yet another disgruntled Californian, spotted in a new report by the Register.

“As privacy concerns have grown, Apple has sought to position itself as a leader by touting how its mobile devices allow users to control the information they share,” plaintiff Julia Cima argued in the complaint. “Yet, Apple does not honor users’ requests to restrict data sharing.”

Gizmodo contacted Apple about this problem for the seventh time this morning, which has to be another record breaker. As happened the previous six times, the company didn’t respond. Apple hasn’t said a single word to defend this privacy issue in public.

As you careen around your iPhone, you create a lot of opportunities to collect data, which can be useful for any number of purposes. Some of that data includes analytics information, which measures the way you interact with certain apps. In our original report, Gizmodo pointed out that it’s unclear exactly how Apple uses analytics data. The company quietly updated its Analytics privacy policy with vague explanation a few weeks after the November story, writing that the data is used “to help Apple improve and develop its products and services.”

However, that policy also seems to include several glaring misstatements, according to tests by Mysk, the app development company which originally spotted the problem.

Apple’s privacy policies say “you may also choose to disable the sharing of Device Analytics altogether” by turning off the Share iPhone Analytics setting. But when Mysk analyzed that data your iPhone sends back to Apple, the test showed the data is collected no matter how you adjusted your privacy settings.

Mysk’s tests examined the App Store, Apple Music, Apple TV, Books, and Stocks. Apple harvested data including data including detailed real-time information about everything you’re doing in certain apps—not only things you type or tap on, but even how long you spend on certain pages and which ads and content you see, according to the test. In some cases, this could pose a serious privacy concern. In the App Store, for instance, searches and downloads for specific apps can reveal anything from users’ sexual orientation to religion to sensitive health problems like addiction and substance abuse.

But that’s not all. Apple’s privacy policy says all this data is anonymous, and “none of the collected information identifies you personally.” Additional tests showed, however, that the data collected by the company includes a permanent, unchangeable ID number called a Directory Services Identifier, or DSID, which is directly tied to your full name, phone number, birth date, email address and more information linked to your iCloud ID account.

Mysk continues its testing. The company’s latest investigation found that the same privacy problems on the iPhone persist on Mac laptops. Mysk researchers say that the App Store on Apple computers collects the same kind of analytics information, along with the DSID, regardless of your computer’s Analytics privacy settings.

Buhari is the president and not head of EFCC or DSS.... I believe Nigeria is not a lawless country as we have institutions saddled with the responsibility to investigate crime and arrest suspects... It is not Buhari's job to do this.... You read in the report that DSS and SSS were stopped by the court from carryout their duty.... I had hoped that Buhari would've done the right thing to fire Emefiele so as to enable the security agents to investigate him but unfortunately that didn't happen.... It is still Emefiele's call to do the right thing which is resign and submit himself for investigation if he is Innocent.....

It is not politically motivated as you may presume, according multiple reports Emefiele has been under investigation since last year.... The question you should be asking is he guilty of these allegations... As I said earlier if it is politically motivated then why is he afraid.....? Mind you Emefiele is a card carrying APC member.... It's a shame that you support the evil actions of Emefiele even though it is glaring that he has turned the CBN into a political tool to advance nefarious political interests....

EXCLUSIVE: How Nigerian Central Bank Gov., Emefiele Silenced Top Officials Of Secret Police, DSS By Exposing How They Also Received “Intervention Funds”

Nothing may be heard about the investigation against the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele again if the blackmail he tried to use on top officials of the secret police works, multiple sources have told SaharaReporters.

The CBN governor was recently at the centre of wide-ranging corruption allegations, including the stamp duties scandal, and bribery of National Assembly members with N1 billion to pass the bank's 2023 budget of N2.4 trillion, among others.

In 2022, he travelled out of the country amidst fears he would be apprehended by operatives of the secret police, Department of State Services (DSS) over several allegations against him, including terrorism financing.

SaharaReporters reported how the Federal High Court in Abuja refused to issue an order sought by the DSS to arrest Emefiele.

Some top directors of the apex bank were also grilled by officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) over their roles in the N2 billion loan given to the National President of the National Cotton Association of Nigeria (NACOTAN), Anibe Achimugu.

EFCC officials had told SaharaReporters that the CBN directors denied knowing when Emefiele approved the loan for Achimugu, adding that it wasn’t discussed during any of their meetings.

They also tagged the approval of such a loan as illegal.

“The President of National Cotton Association of Nigeria (NACOTAN) and managing director of Arewa Cotton, Mr Anibe Achimugu was given N2 billion by Emefiele,” one of the sources had said.

“Our (EFCC) investigators invited top CBN directors to explain how an individual could get such a personal loan from the apex bank, they were interrogated for hours and they denied knowing when Emefiele approved such a loan. They said they were not aware he gave out such an amount to Achimugu.

“We discovered that the whole association, NACOTAN, was earlier given N24 billion intervention funds approved by Buhari to grow and harvest cotton. But only N10 billion was recovered as the group claimed bandits didn’t allow them to harvest their cotton.

“Yet, Emefiele through the back door approved N2 billion for the President of this same association. The investigation also showed that Emefiele collected back part of the N24 billion initially given to the association as kickbacks. This is the reason why he doesn’t care about it being paid back or not.

Amidst the threat of his arrest, Emefiele returned to Nigeria and has visited President Muhammadu Buhari in the Presidential Villa at least three times.

A source told SaharaReporters on Wednesday that the apex bank boss had been giving senior officials of the DSS sleepless nights “because he is ready to fight dirty”.

According to the source, Emefiele accused the bosses of the secret police of benefitting from multi-billion intervention funds given by the CBN.

“Are you surprised nothing is being heard about Emefiele from the DSS again? He has actually silenced their bosses. He confronted the leaders and senior officials of the DSS with their corruption scorecard,” a top official of the apex bank told SaharaReporters.

“He exposed how they too collected intervention funds from the CBN.”

This is not the first time Emefiele was accused of buying the silence of key people in government.

Recently, a member of the House of Representatives for Yankwashi/Roni/Gwiwa/Kazaure Federal Constituency, Gudaji Kazaure accused Emefiele of granting scandalous loans to some ‘powerful’ Nigerians, with each of them getting a minimum of about N2 billion.

According to the lawmaker, he was also offered a N1.8 billion interest and collateral-free loan by the CBN.

Kazaure had revealed, "I was approached about the CBN loan by House Committee on Banking and Currency, Hafisu. He told me that there was N1.8 billion facility with zero interest for me at the CBN and that no collateral was required.

"I declined the offer and explained that I do not have control over money because all money under my custody belongs to my constituents. Therefore, if I take the loan, I might get into trouble someday.

"Now if I had collected the money, I'd have lost my voice and would not be able to talk as I'm doing now. As for my colleague, he told me he was given N2 billion.

"I swear with the glorious Qur'an, he told me he collected N2 billion. Make no mistake, this is among some of the least facilities given to prominent Nigerians; some of these issues, you don't want to hear because they're staggering.

"And, listen, in due course we'll expose some of our colleagues who rushed to speak in defence of the CBN; we'll tell people how the monies were disbursed and how much every one of them got.

"Again, I swear by the glorious Qur'an, I have the records of all those who benefited from the CBN loan. This includes governors, companies and individuals in Nigeria."

The lawmaker had earlier revealed Emefiele allegedly offered N1 billion bribe to get the apex bank’s N2.4 trillion 2023 budget passed.

He also accused the CBN boss of planting his men in strategic positions at the National Assembly, in order to do for them to do his bidding.

Kazaure added that some members of the National Assembly benefitted from Emefiele's monumental corrupt dealings.

He said, "Shortly after the election of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Godwin Emefiele swiftly and smartly so, through pecuniary inducements influenced the selection of members of the House of Representatives Committee on Banking and Currency, particularly the chairman, in the person of Honorable Victor Nwokolo, who represents his (Emefiele) constituency. In fact, he is Emefiele's younger brother.

"This man has practically bought over not just members of the National Assembly, but every influential Nigerian because the man (Emefiele) is richer than the Federal Government."

Emefiele showed his ani-people policies days after resuming office. Sanusi stopped payment of charges in the use of ATM that is not that of your bank. Immediately Emefiele entered office his first action was to restore that charge.

These services "Meta" and "Google" can't be trusted to carryout such tasks that has to do with our election and it is extremely dangerous to our sovereignty to encourage such arrangements (I've not heard of any other African country with such arrangement)... You said "Forget talk, the only way to send our message across is by electing peter obi"... About that well I don't see this election as a means to tackle the issues we are facing. I am in support of restructuring, I think we need a decentralized system of government where states a autonomous with little federal influence over state resources (Let state governors have 100% resource control).... I wish Nigerians will push for restructuring instead of elections that will bring back the same evil people that are oppressing us.... But if I am to vote in 2023 presidential election, I won't vote for Obi, I will vote for Sowore..... I understand many Nigerians are supporting Obi, personally I am yet to come to terms with the craze over Obi because by this time last year Obi was a PDP presidential contestant.... In 2019, he ran with Atiku on the same platform so I think if he wins, his government policies won't be different from an Atiku presidency.... He will be a continuation of the status quo maybe with a little difference (In terms of stopping stealing of public funds) but I doubt if he will be courageous to recover looted funds or make critical reforms.... It is glaring that a Peter Obi government won't be able to call Buhari and members of his cabinet to account for the trillions misappropriated in the last 8 years.... One major reason I will vote for Sowore is because of his fearless tenacity and unrelenting quest for justice.... He has been consistent over the years in the struggle against Nigeria's bad leaders.... In 2015 he like other Nigerians who fail for the APC propaganda supported Buhari but ever since Buhari fellout with Nigerians, Sowore has been critical of the bad policies and has been consistent in publicly condemning it. I understand that the fact that he supported Buhari in 2015 and his inexperience in government (No record of past political appointments) have been issues Nigerians have with him but if I am to vote, I will vote for him..... I believe he will be a better president than Obi....

mycar:

so, the blame goes to Buhari led APC government and for CBN to sanction the banks, he will need an evidence to do so and evidences are coming, once those evidences have been established, you will hear from CBN.
Either ways, APC have failed Nigeria, most them are speaking up now because it's election time, for 8 years Nigerians have been crying, nobody said anything.

forget talk, the only way to send our message across is by electing peter obi.

I believe am right on all points and not just one because you didn't answer my question. If truly Emefiele was telling the truth that the banks you mentioned were given enough cash.... Don't you think CBN would've sanctioned these banks that were reported to have been hoarding cash?

You said "....needs a court of competent jurisdiction".... Buhari doesn't care about the law that's why impunity is the order of the day.... The judicial arm of government has been subdued by the executive....That's why Emefiele feels untouchable under the law.... In my opinion, I blame the national assembly for everything that went wrong within the government in the last 8 years.... They failed to curtail Buhari's excesses.... They failed Nigerians!

mycar:

you are right in the bolded part. and needs a court of competent jurisdiction to prove him guilty in the others

What you are saying doesn't change the fact that Emefiele has to go, he has criminal allegations against him and also he has violated his mandate as CBN governor by engaging in partisan politics.... If truly CBN printed enough cash don't you think those banks hoarding cash would've been sanctioned by now....

mycar:

CBN takes order from mr. president and you know the truth, even El rufai said it, your problem is that you are not on twitter, check out the incidences of currency hording happening in some of the SW states, those bankers are yoruba with over N6.5Million undistributed cash.
You guys problem is ignorance,
Cash were sent to the commercial banks to disburse and what did they do, they are hoarding it and this is happening in your locality and you are calling CBN governor.

You see the issue here is not about cashless policy but it is about listening to the people... Not all Nigerians want to transact or keep all their savings in the bank.... There are many people who prefer cash and need cash for their daily transactions... It is callous to assume otherwise, Emefiele was wrong to implement these cashless policies that favours his banker friends who you and I know will charge outrageous fees for electronic payments by the time Emefiele succeeds in destroying Nigeria's cash monetary system.... But his evil plans will fail....

blackmantis:

Instead of promoting the cashless policy the CBN has succeeded in turning people away from banks. Many have vowed never to keep money in the bank again.

"The currency redesign is not peculiar to Nigeria. It is an exercise that comes with some inconvenience and pain, but it has significant longterm economic and social benefits. Even though there are improvements that can be made, I urge Nigerians to bear with the CBN and Federal Government with the hope that the general populace and Nigeria will harvest the gains that will come with the reforms."

How insensitive and callous of Obi to make such statement after seeing the pain and chaos going on over the mess that Buhari and Emefiele have caused. Nigerians supporting Obi may be making a big mistake if he wins, he may continue this Buhari's evil cashless policies..... He may be another "false messiah" just like Buhari in 2015.... I hope those supporting him are using their heads and are not into the cult of personality that have characterized Peter Obi's meteoric popularity after decamping from PDP and joining labour party.... I wonder how Obi can see economic benefit in punishing Nigerians.... This is a clear indication that he is in support of what is going on.... He is asking Nigerians to bear because it is not affecting him....

Wow.... so the criminal allegations against Emefiele makes him innocent? You're delusional....

mycar:
Stop disturbing an innocent man and say the truth, the last time our currency was redesigned is in April 1984 by Buhari.
This was done by Buhari, so channel your grievances appropriately and don't be a coward.
I can see why urchins are called cowards
