Education / IMSU ASUU Faults FG's Offer, Gives Fresh Conditions To End The Strike by BEHEST(m): 12:07pm On Nov 25, 2020 |
Imo State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed discontent over the recent Federal Government offer to the union to call-off the eight-month old strike. In an exclusive chat with 2019/2020 IMSU SUG Director of Information Comr. Duru Victor today, the Chairman of IMSU ASUU Engr. Luke Uzoigwe said the N65bn Federal Government is offering is a far-cry from the N220bn the union had demanded. He maintained that the money is not enough and proposed an improved offer as a condition for the suspension of the strike. He said: " Federal Government wants to provide only N65bn (N35bn for earned academic allowances and N30bn for revitalization of universities) and we say it is not enough. "In the magnanimity of the union we said, ok, bring half of the N220bn we initially demanded (that's N110bn) but the Federal Government said they don't have such money and so ASUU is saying no". IMSU ASUU however offered new condition for the suspension of the strike. "Instead of N65bn, pay ASUU N80bn - N40bn for earned academic allowances for federal universities and N40bn revitalization. That's what our branch is suggesting to the federal government. That's the position of ASUU IMSU". "But for now we have not agreed with the Federal government", IMSU ASUU Chairman maintained. ASUU will again meet with the Federal Government on Friday 27th even as Nigerian students hope that this meeting will see an end to the FG-ASUU impasse. Powered by: Comr. Education / IMSU Student In Battle For His Life, Needs N2M For Thigh Sugery by BEHEST(m): 11:09am On Jun 19, 2020 |
Master Mmadu Elijah Chinazaekpere gained admission into Imo State University in 2016 like any other student who sought to further their education in a tertiary institution but currently the narrative is not the same as he is in the battle of his life. The young scholar had a near-fatal accident some six months ago that has not only tampered with his academic pursuit (as he missed the whole of first semester academic activities) but is on the brink of losing his life if help doesn't come his way soon. He suffered life-threatening injury to his lap as a result of the terrible accident and hasn't received adequate medical care ever since. The injury that is now eating him up like termites, causing his lap to decay hasn't received the necessary medical attention despite the plethora of hospitals he had been taken to due to the humongous financial implications. Presently, he has been taken to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) at Idi Araba, Mushin, Lagos for series of major operations that is in the region of the sum of two million naira (N2,000,000.00) and the medical personnels have insisted on a substantial deposit of the money for operation to commence. I make a passionate appeal to all Imo Stars and well-meaning Nigerians to help save the live of this promising young lad by making financial contributions - no amount is too small. For confirmation of this story, find below the address of the hospital, provided below is also his mother and sister's phone numbers for verification: •Address: LUTH Hospital, Idi Araba, Mushin, Lagos •Mother & Sister's phone numbers : 08165934468 // 09070586025 Your 1k and 500 hundred naira will go a long way. Say if two thousand Imo Stars/persons pay a thousand naira per person it will amount to N2M and if four thousand Imo Stars/well-meaning persons pay five hundred naira each it will still amount to N2M. Education / Former Dean Law Faculty IMSU Bags Federal Appointment by BEHEST(m): 3:10pm On May 06, 2019 |
By Duru Victor Former Dean of Law Faculty, Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) Professor Nnamdi Onyeka Obiaraeri has been appointed and inaugurated a member of the Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC, Board by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration. Prof. Nnamdi Obiaraeri popularly known as Agunaechemba, along with 17 others, were inaugurated on the 2nd of May, 2019 in the Ministry's Conference room of the Ministry of Transportation in Abuja. The Law mogul's latest appointment didn't come as a surprise to many following his antecedents and pedigree. Owelle Okigwe, as he is fondly called, was called to the Nigerian Bar on the 22nd of October, 1987. Even as a young scholar, Prof. Nnamdi was the toast of Law Faculty little wonder he emerged the best graduating student in the Faculty of Law, Imo State University, Okigwe (now Abia State University Uturu) in the 1985/86 session while scooping multiple awards in the process. The Legal Practitioner, International Scholar Human Rights Activist and Supranational Consultant is a fellow and visiting scholar of the prestigious Human Rights Institute, Columbia University, New York, USA and has been a member of Imo State University Senate since June 1, 1994. The former Co-ordinator, former Head of Department Legal Studies, IMSU has been in government since the epoch of H.E. Achike Udenwa, to Ikedi Ohakim, and even outgoing Rochas Okorocha appointed him Commisioner for Information, Imo State in Dec. 2017. Prof. Obiaraeri makes up the newly inaugurated 18-man Board Members of the NRC that will oversee operations of the NRC as well as work hand-in-glove with the Ministry and Agency in the execution of President Muhammadu Buhari administration's strategy for rail development in the country. Undoubtedly, Prof. Nnamdi's appointment is a testament to the wealth of knowledge and experience of IMSU lecturers and a pride to Imo Stars and Imo State at large. Education / Drama As IMSU JCCF Attempt To Disrupt Theatre Arts Freshers Induction Ritual by BEHEST(m): 12:12am On Apr 14, 2019 |
By Duru Victor A mild drama ensued at the initiation/induction ritual of Imo State University Theatre Arts freshers department earlier this week. It was witnessed that the IMSU Chapter of the Joint Christian Campus Fellowship (JCCF) led by its president Pst. Ernest Ugonna Ezekwere and his christian stalwarts in company of the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics Prof. Pst. Nkwam Uwaoma attempted to halt the freshers induction procession which didn't yield much success. The Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics has promised that such a ritual will not repeat itself in IMSU again. Over the years, the annual freshers initiation/induction ceremony has continued to generate mixed reactions but its administrators maintained it is the department's way of welcoming the fresh students into the department. Stressing that there isn't any spirituality or fetishism attached rather a way of promoting our indigenous culture. On the other hand, christian fanatics have continued to call for the ceremony's abolishment maintaining that it has spiritual implications that are detrimental and against the christian faith. By Duru Victor Many call it the IMSU Love Garden, for some Mazi Owunna Recreational Park but it remains unarguably the most popular place as far as Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) is concerned. The Sheen park which gulped about N150M was commissioned on Tuesday, 23rd of September, 2014 by the Executive Governor of Imo State H.E. Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha. Built by the Chief Peter Sunday Owunna Memorial Foundation under the chairmanship of his Lordship Most Rev. Dr. G.O. Ochiagha (Emeritus Catholic Bishop of Orlu Diocese) in memory of the then Pro-Chancellor who championed the Park's new look - Mazi Clement Owunna. Four years down the line, the park still remains the hub of Imo Stars, the centre of attraction to visitors and a subtle love nests for love birds - Did I mention it is home to scholars for night "jacking". Have a feel of the bird eye view of the park. SOURCE: https://www.infoscopemedia.com.ng/2019/01/imsu-editorialcheck-out-aerial-view-of.html 1 Share

Education / #ASUUSTRIKE: IMSU Is 100% On Strike - Dean Student Affairs, IMSU by BEHEST(m): 9:26am On Jan 28, 2019 |
By Duru Victor The Dean Student Affairs Prof. Nwankwo Martins Uchenna has refuted claims that Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) has quit the ongoing ASUU strike. The Dean made this assertion, while fielding questions on the purported jettisoning of the ASUU strike by IMSU, in a text statement sent to IMSU STAR NEWSPAPER Correspondent Duru Victor on Saturday (last week). This is following the withdrawal of some universities from the ASUU strike, the lastest of which is the Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU). Prof. Martins also revealed that the Non-academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) IMSU Chapter hasn't called off its industrial action, laying to bed another rumor that IMSU-NASU had called off its strike. He said: "Imo State University, Owerri is 100% on strike, both teaching and non-teaching staff". Meanwhile, while the ASUU strike lingers with the purported meeting between both parties today unlikely, first semester lectures have fully commenced at the IMSU Study Centre of the National Teachers' Institute (NTI) for 2019/2020 academic session.
