*#EndSARS: Obaseki meets Edo youths, assures of 60 per cent representation in new cabinet* *_...says training ongoing for over 2000-man state-owned security network_* *....expands Panel of Inquiry on police brutality to 20* The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has assured youths in the state of 60 per cent representation in his new cabinet. The governor gave the assurance during an interactive meeting with youth groups at Government House, in Benin City, on Thursday. He said the crisis in the state following the hijack of the #ENDSARS protests is politically motivated. The meeting had in attendance leaders and representatives of over 30 youth organisations in the state. Obaseki said: "I am worried about the level of criminality. Parts of the fight we had in our first term was the issue of maintaining law and order and fighting criminality as lots of these criminals hid under the cover of the godfathers who called them their infantry, lions and tigers. "Without law and order, there can't be economic growth as no one will be able to invest. You could see them in the last few days, the way they came out pouncing on people’s private properties.” He added, "The crisis in Edo is not the #ENDSARS protests but political as the government supports the #ENDSARS protests. Just as we defeated them in the election, we will contain them. With my #ENDSARS people, we are going to arrest them and put them back to the zoo. According to him, his administration recognises the role played by youths in his re-election, adding that his administration plans to appoint 60 per cent of youths under the age of 40 in his second term in office. The governor said his government has no problem with peaceful protests, adding, "I asked the police to give you protection but the leadership of the police have a choice to either obey me or not as I don't have power to fire the Police Commissioner. "Our position as a government is to support the position of the #ENDSARS protesters as their demand is legitimate," assuring the youths that he is on their side. He added: "The Panel of Inquiry is the first step to go and we have instructed that the number of members be increased to 20 to accommodate other groups. The panel has 90 days and I urge you all to give evidence to the panel which should be documented as it will enable us to work as we implement the report of the panel. "Our security arrangements in the country must reflect our Federal system as I can't be a governor of a state and not be able to hire and fire my Commissioner of Police, but the #ENDSARS has helped us start the process. The Public Works Volunteer (PUWOV) is a version of our neighborhood watch in the state. We have 900 people being trained. 1,100 others will be trained after this set and another 20 persons per ward will be hired to be in charge of public safety. "As the governor, I will do everything within my power to have strong internal security as we need to protect ourselves. Representative of the #ENDSARS protesters, Comrade Abraham Oviawe, said the peaceful protesters' demand emanated from the pains Nigerians have suffered over the years. He thanked the governor for constituting the Judicial Panel of Inquiry to investigate the excesses of the disbanded members of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), urging him to ensure that the Panel does the right job for Edo people. Oviawe urged the Nigeria Police to be civil in its dealings with members of the public, adding that the leadership of the Police will check the mode of operation of the anti-cultism unit of the Force. "We urge your government to re-constitute the neighborhood watch and ensure the recruitment is open and transparent as it will assist and help community policing in Edo State," he added. Representative of Civil Society Organisations in Edo State, Curtis Ogbebor, expressed appreciation to the governor for ensuring the lives of Edo citizens are safe. He urged the state government to ensure it arrests those who fired shots leading to the death of peaceful protesters at Kingsquare in Benin City, Edo State. Representative of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Steven Imafidon, said sixty per cent of victims of police brutality are students as their agitation is for the government to look into the welfare of police officers. |

Under Four Years We Created 157,000 Jobs – Gov Obaseki Channels Television Updated September 13, 2020 Governor Godwin Obaseki says in the first four years of his tenure, at least 157,000 jobs were created in Edo State. The governor disclosed this on Sunday at the governorship debate organised by Channels Television. Just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, we had created direct and indirect jobs for Edo people as much as a hundred and fifty-seven thousand,” Obaseki revealed. According to him, the jobs came from the way the government decided to address the economy. “Government’s role is being an enabler, creating an enabling environment to come and invest so that the economy can thrive,” the governor explained. He said his government had to create a sense of order where people will not be harassed when they come into the state. The governor also noted that he created a sense of purpose for those in the civil service to enable individuals to realise that their purpose is to provide service and compliment the progress of the private sector. Obaseki stressed that the government is not in the business of competing with the private sector. |

EDO2020: How Onojie Of Uromi, Esan Monarchs Humiliated And Brought Oshiomhole To His Kneels At Igueben The true story of what happened at the Palace of the Onojie of Igueben on Monday as the APC Governorship campaign train visited Esan land has been revealed. A Palace chief who witnessed the whole drama told our correspondent that the press crew from all media houses were hurriedly sent out of the palace when the crisis started. Narrating the true story, the high Chief explained what transpired as he was present there when it all started. He said: “I witnessed everything. All the journalists were sent out when the trouble started, the Onojie of Igueben, HRH Ehizojie Eluojierior II had welcomed everyone who came and afterward, the candidate of APC in the upcoming governorship election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu spoke about his mission and vision for Edo state” “Also, Oshiomhole spoke about their mission, then the Onojie of Ewatto was made to speak on behalf of the Esan Monarchs, praising Oshiomhole for his efforts at developing the state while he was the governor, but messed up his administration by deposing the Onojie of Uromi at the end of his administration”. He added: “At that point, Ize-Iyamu quickly got up and began to apologize for the mistake Oshiomhole made by suspending and dethroning the Onojie of Uromi, but as he was talking Oshiomhole took the mic from Ize-Iyamu and arrogantly said he had no regret”. He was still speaking when the Onojie of Uromi, who was among the traditional rulers that were in the Palace of the Igueben Monarch stood up in anger and rain curses and all manners of insults on the sacked APC national chairman, Onojie of Uromi, Zaiki Anslem Edenojie II got up in anger and insisted that Oshiomhole must drop the mic and get out of the palace. “Immediately Oshiomhole, Ize-Iyamu and all the party leaders who went with them went on their knees begging for forgiveness. The whole Esan Onojies at this point supported the Onojie of Uromi and told Oshiomhole to leave Esan land right away, but for Ize-Iyamu who kept begging, it would have gone worse for Comrade Adams Oshiomhole”. It was gathered that the Ojuromi told him, “drop the mic and get out of here, I was told that you speak before you reason, you are a bastard, don`t let me see you near my palace when you come to Uromi. 1 Like |
