Career / How Dangote Cement Plc Fired Over 3000 Staff Without Notice, due process by benavatar(m): 3:34pm On Jun 19, 2020
factory, Dangote Cement PLC, has fired more than 3000 staff without prior notice or due process, SaharaReporters has uncovered.

The company, which is owned by Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, started the process of discarding 80 per cent of it's staff on June 17 without explanation.

Of 6000 drivers employed by the company, 4000 have been laid off retaining only 2000.

Out of 30 pool drivers for pick up vans, 25 were sacked while five were retained.

All staff in the traffic and accounts departments were also asked to go.

Founder and chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote.
A top source in the company said the company continued to work in overtime mode during COVID-19 restrictions placed on all Nigerian businesses due to Dangote's association with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Recall that the government had shut down the operation of every business within the country due to the Coronavirus outbreak with exemptions for food processing and manufacturing companies only.

Dangote Cement is not an agricultural company or food processing organisation but continued to operate.

Despite the violations of this guideline put in place by the President, the company recalled staff in the middle of a pandemic to work, the source said.

"At the beginning of the year, they did an appraisal, it was supposed to be for a promotion and then the pandemic struck.

"When the pandemic struck, people were thinking that is when he will sack people but nothing like that happened as a matter of fact, the people that they have compulsory leave because of the pandemic were ordered back after just five days.

"Everyone was recalled back to work despite the lockdown and at that time they were pushing out trucks of cement around 500 to 600 everyday.

"People were working overtime because it is owned by Dangote, his trucks were exempted from COVID-19 restrictions, so they forced people to work overtime like 12 yours everyday morning and night. The country was beginning to reopen little by little and then the next thing was sack," he said.

A victim of the mass sack told SaharaReporters on Friday that he was at his duty post working like usual when he was called and forced to sign a letter of termination of appointment without prior warning or notice.

He said, "As I speak to you, more than 3,000 people are being sacked. You will be at your duty post and they will call you and give you a letter, nobody knew, no prior notice.

"As a matter of fact, after the appraisal at the start of the year, many of us were given recommendations to be promoted to manager and other positions within the organisation.

"I was at my duty post, I got a call from the admin and when I got there, they gave me a letter and said I should sign the original collected by me, you cannot argue with anybody.

"As a matter of fact, the Head of Materials and Maintenance, Engr Basil, he has only nine people in his unit. He force them to cover the whole of the facility because they have to create evaluations for materials and make reservations for maintainace so when was asked to submit the names of nine people in his department to sack, when he refused explaining to upper management that he was already understaffed and taking out anyone will make the work to suffer. They gave him an ultimatum of 24 hours to submit names from his team for sack and when he refused to do it after it elapsed, he was sacked along with his team."

He added that staff members at the company were not allowed to belong to trade unions and any attempt to do so would lead to mass sack.

"We are not allowed to have any union, the day anyone starts it is the day we will all go. You cannot try it at all," he said.

He expressed worry that many staff may not get paid for the overtime hours they put in for June.

"Overtime is usually paid the next month, now we are worried that we might not get paid for the overtime we did in June despite the pandemic. Because of the way the company works, we are even worried that they may not even be paid June salary," he added.

In a letter of termination signed by Adeniyi Azeez, Head of Human Resources and Administration, sacked staff were told that the process of the payment will be communicated with no specific date indicated.

"Our payroll is currently working out your final financial entitlements and this would be communicated to you during the off boarding process," The letter reads.

Letter of termination.

Politics / We Are Greater Together Than Apart Biafra 50 Years After by benavatar(m): 12:47am On May 26, 2017
Acting president osinbanjo speech at the colloquim on Biafra
Chinua Achebe repeatedly reminded us of the Igbo saying that a man who cannot tell where the rain began to beat him cannot know where he dried his body. If we lose the past, we will inevitably lose the opportunity to make the best of the present and the future.

Today at the colloquium on Biafra, I shared on why we are greater together than apart.

I was ten years old when my friend in primary school then, Emeka, left school one afternoon. He said his parents said they had to go back to East, war was about to start. I never saw Emeka again.

I recall distinctly how in 1967, passing in front of my home on Ikorodu road almost every hour were trucks carrying passengers and furniture in an endless stream heading east. Many Ibos who left various parts of Nigeria, left friends, families and businesses, schools and jobs. Like my friend and aunty some never returned! But many died. The reasons for this tragic separation of brothers and sisters were deep and profound. So much has been said and written already about the ``why's and wherefores’’ and that analyses will probably never end.

The issue is whether the terrible suffering, massive loss of lives, of hopes and fortunes of so many can ever be justified.

As we reflect on this event today, we must ask ourselves the same question that many who have fought or been victims in civil wars, wars between brothers and sisters ask in moments of reflection....``what if we had spent all the resources, time and sacrifice we put into the war, into trying to forge unity? What if we had decided not to seek to avenge a wrong done to us? What if we had chosen to overcome evil with good?’’

My God-son is Somkele Awakalu, his father Awa Kalu, SAN, and I taught at the University of Lagos. My first book was dedicated to Somkele and my two other God-children. Chief Emmanuel Dimike is almost 80, he was my father's friend and business associate in his sawmills in Lagos. Chief has been like a father. I see him most Sundays, he worships with me at the chapel.

The individual affections and friendships we forge some even deeper than family ties, must remind us that unity is possible, that brotherhood across tribes and faiths is possible

Let me make it clear that I fully believe that Nigerians should exercise to the fullest extent the right to discuss or debate the terms of our existence. Debate and disagreement are fundamental aspects of democracy. We recognize and acknowledge that necessity. And today’s event is along those lines – an opportunity not merely to commemorate the past, but also to dissect and debate it. Let’s ask ourselves tough questions about the path that has led us here, and how we might transform yesterday’s actions into tomorrow’s wisdom.
Indeed our argument is not and will never be that we should ‘forget the past’, or ‘let bygones be bygones’, as some have suggested.

In an interview years ago, the late Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, explaining why he didn’t think a second Biafran War should happen, said: “We should have learnt from that first one, otherwise the deaths would have been to no avail; it would all have been in vain.”

We should also be careful that we do not focus exclusively on the narratives of division, at the expense of the uplifting and inspiring ones. The same social media that has come under much censure for its propensity to propagate division, has also allowed multitudes of young Nigerians to see more of the sights and sounds of their country than ever before.

Agriculture / Re: Make Your Own Poultry Feeds by benavatar(m): 9:47pm On Mar 31, 2017
MasExcel19:
Every poultry farmer knows that the major expenses on the farm is on feeds and with the constant increase in the cost of feeds, the poultry farming business suffers especially in the aspect of profiting. Imagine doing all the hard work only to come out with pie nuts profits in the end. Certainly this is unbearable and every farmer would do anything within his reach to learn alternative ways to survive in the business.
Here are the advantages of making your own feeds :

- you have absolute control of the nutritional content, quality and quantity ur chickens get
- you are better manager of the cost of production
- it is cheaper and ur birds grows heathier and faster with reasonable weight within 5 weeks
- u can sell off early for those into broilers and turn over almost 4 times within 6 months. This means more profit for u the farmer
- you can sell ur own branded feeds

All the above plus many more is possible only when you know exactly how to mix all the necessary ingredients so that ur feed becomes quality and nutriteous to ur birds.
Both the layers and broilers farmers face the same challenge of supplying their birds with the right nutrition.
A bag of 25kg feed today sells for almost N4200 depending on ur location and if u are running a big farm u know how much expenses that would result in just few days feeding ur chickens.

WHAT if there's a way to cut down this expenses by 30% wouldn't that be reasonable?

WHAT if u can produce your own feeds at even more cheaper rate (N2940) and harvest both chickens and eggs faster wouldn't that be fantastic?

Well there's. I can see u smiling already.

We've have been using a proven formula in our farms for almost a year now and it has been wonderful.
Using this formula, we have grown from 200 birds to 700 birds just last year. We plan on growing 2500 birds by this yr ending.

Imagine doing this too. Imagine selling your own brand feeds. Just imagine it

We have decided to reveal this secrets to only 100 persons.
The first 50 persons will get access to our WhatsApp group where we can properly coach u on how to make ur own feeds. Plus answer all your questions and guide u.

Politics / US Govt Making Moves To Resolve N-delta Crisis —consul-general by benavatar(m): 3:35am On Feb 02, 2017
By Innocent Onoja

BOMADI—United States, US, Consul-General in Nigeria, Mr John Brey, yesterday said the US government had been making efforts in the last one year to step up peaceful resolution of the crisis in the Niger Delta.

Addressing journalists after his team visited the palace of the Pere of Seimbri Kingdom, HRM Charles Ayemi Botu in Warri, Delta State, Brey said the visit was another fact-finding mission to all key stakeholders in the region.

“We have been engaging heavily from the consulate and from the embassy in Abuja basically since last Spring,” he disclosed.

According to him, the visit was also a continuation of the United States’ engagement for the country and also to fast-track dialogue and ultimately restore peace in Niger Delta.

Stressing that the U.S. hoped for a peaceful resolution of the Niger Delta crisis, Brey pointed out that the delegation would spend three days in the creeks visiting various communities to get firsthand information on issues militating against the people and the region before reporting back to the U.S.

Speaking, Botu lauded the team for the visit to his palace, saying the Niger Delta was not the problem but the Federal Government.

“The only solution to Nigeria’s problems is restructuring. Why the country still remained as one entity was nothing other than oil. Let Nigeria be restructured and practice true federalism as it used to be. Let us restructure the country based on the geopolitical zones. If I see anything wrong and I do not say it, posterity will judge me,” he added

FIRST MASSIVE NATIONWIDE PROTESTS ON THE 5TH OF FEBRUARY, 2017.

A call for good governance.

A call for urgent explanation into the reckless economic downturn nationwide.

A call for nationwide protests as we say No to the Executive, No to legislatures, No to judiciary... You have all failed us.

We the people are tired. We can no longer continue with all of you. All your excuses and mistakes are not funny. We do not wish to continue with a system and government that is not working but afflicting the people. We the people of this country not living under the privileges of government allowances and remuneration have now accepted to take the bull by the horn to come out and protest this obnoxious and baseless policies and excuses of the government of the day.

Where are the recovered looted funds?

Why do we still have the executive arms and legislatures still enjoying their salaries and allowances while we hear there's no money to pay workers?

Why do we still see ceaseless power failures with no explanation and hope of getting out of it unlike before?

Why do we keep seeing peace talks in Niger Delta, fulani heardsmen and ipob without any solutions being reached, while the strategies keeps aggravating the people involved as political leaders stage forums to extort funds in the name of addressing their subjects?

Why did we have petrol price rise to 145 for the sake of global oil price crash and removal of subsidy but such price is still being maintained despite significant re-awakening of the oil price from $30/barrel to $56/barrel?

Who is to be held accountable for the sudden and continuous hike in price of commodities in the market, where for the first time in history, Nigeria is suddenly selling kerosene at 400 naira per litre as against 50 naira per litre, diesel at 300 naira per litre as against 100 naira per litre and petrol from 87 naira to 145 naira? Yet maintaining the same systems, environment and maybe a lesser money spending government.

There's need for Nigerians to rise against what is happening in this country having waited patiently for the legislatures that were elected to represent the people all to no avail.

How can there be rise in cost of living all of a sudden and no one is telling us what is actually happening? Not even a single person in power to address the challenges in the various sectors and introduce palliative measures by the government to cushion the effects?

We call on all Nigerians of good conscience to rise against this inhumanity against mankind, dehumanization and heartlesness living in high places piloting the affairs of this country while we're yet to drawn into a deep blue sea.

To this cause, we the masses wish to use this medium to alert ourselves that on the 5th of February, 2017 , there shall be a nationwide massive protest from state to state, local government to local government, ward to ward and kindred to kindred.

For the first time, all Nigerians shall match out of their houses to the streets with placards displaying what displeases you in the Nigeria of today both in the executive, legislatures and judiciary arms of government.

Cars shall carry green leaves to display the unhappiness we the masses have towards the economic uncertainties in Nigeria and the displeasure of hearing of excuses and mistakes here and there in governance.

Nobody said anybody is above resignation if he cannot meet up the yearnings of the people like David Cameron of United kingdom.

We are tired of getting surprises whenever we visit the market and yet no shake up in government spending amidst the dwindling economic reserve. Our governors and top government functionaries keep living flamboyant lifestyle, building mansions and buying up properties abroad at the most expensive locations in the world and they end up going away with it once they identify with government or political party of the day.

Enough is enough.

We have been pushed to the wall, we have reached our crossroads and

Top Staff Members Of OSOPADEC Arrested In Akure
Among those affected are the Chairman of the Commission, Pastor Johnson Ogunyemi, and the Director of Finance and Administration (DFA), Orisamoluwa Sola.
BY SAHARAREPORTERS

Five top members of staff of the Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC) were today whisked away by security operatives believed to be operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Among those affected are the Chairman of the Commission, Pastor Johnson Ogunyemi, and the Director of Finance and Administration (DFA), Orisamoluwa Sola.

A junior worker in the commission who confirmed the news to SaharaReporters said the plain-clothes operatives stormed their offices at about 1 pm and ordered all the staff to remain indoors. They then proceeded to search the offices of the top staff before they were taken away.

"They were taken away in a white Toyota Bus, but none of us could explain if they were security operatives from the EFCC office but their attitude to many of them proved to us that they were acting on investigation."

"Immediately, they entered the premises of the commission they ordered the local security man to close the gate to the entrance the commission and asked workers to remain in their various office.

"I just noticed that they went upstairs and asked for the office of the Chairman and the Director of Finance of the Commission before they were taken away," the worker said.

Our correspondent also learned that vital documents were taken along with the arrested staff members.

No other members of the staff of the commission was willing to talk about the issue as many said they were shocked by the visit of the suspected operatives.

As at the time of filing this report no one could determine the destination of the operatives.

Senegalese Troops Advance To Gambian Border
Reuters reports that the Senegalese army will enter The Gambia if Mr. Jammeh does not step down by midnight, local time.
BY SAHARAREPORTERS,

Senegalese troops moved to the Gambian border on Wednesday, threatening to invade The Gambia and remove outgoing President Yahya Jammeh by force should he refuse to step down by Thursday.

Wednesday is supposed to be Mr. Jammeh's final day in office, as President-elect Adama Barrow is due to be sworn in on Thursday, January 19. But despite mounting pressure from neighboring Senegal and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Mr. Jammeh has refused to peacefully hand over power to Mr. Barrow.

Reuters reports that the Senegalese army will enter The Gambia if Mr. Jammeh does not step down by midnight, local time. Colonel Abdou Ndiaye, spokesperson for the Senegalese army, confirmed this to the news agency on Wednesday.

"We are ready and are awaiting the deadline at midnight. If no political solution is found, we will step in," Mr. Ndiaye told Reuters.

In preparation for potential military intervention, Nigeria deployed a warship to the Gambian coast on Tuesday and is willing to contribute 200 troops to the ECOWAS regional force.

Mr. Jammeh, however, has indicated that he would not step down, which could plunge the small West African nation into war. The Gambian parliament earlier passed a resolution allowing Mr. Jammeh to remain in power for an additional three months.

Reuters reports that Senegal has drafted a resolution to be reviewed by the 15-member United Nations Security Council giving approval for an ECOWAS intervention to remove Mr. Jammeh in order to uphold the will of the Gambian people. However, diplomats disclosed to Reuters that such approval would not be necessary if Mr. Barrow requests help from ECOWAS.

Fearing their safety, thousands of Gambians and tourists have fled the country.

It would be recalled that Mr. Barrow defeated Mr. Jammeh in the December 1, 2016 presidential election. Mr. Jammeh initially conceded defeat, but rescinded his concession a week later, citing irregularities in the poll. He has since refused to step down.

Mr. Jammeh rose to power as a 29-year-old military officer during a bloodless coup in 1994. He is only the second leader of The Gambia since the country gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1965.
