Politics / Federal Government Eradicate Kerosene Subsidy - Punch News by BenNnajiBLOG(m): 12:22am On Jan 25, 2016
The Federal Government has officially ended the payment of subsidy on kerosene. Instead of the regulated pump price of N50 per litre, the product will now sell for N83, according to the latest pricing template for House Hold Kerosene released by the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency.

The PPPRA is the agency of the Federal Government that fixes and regulates the prices of white products, kerosene and petrol, across the country.

In its latest template released on Saturday, the agency stated that the retail price of kerosene or HHK by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation was N83 per litre.

The commodity is believed to be mostly consumed by low income earners in the country.

The new template showed that the retail or pump price of HHK was now N10.72 higher than the Expected Open Market Price of the commodity. The EOMP, according to the new template, is N72.28.

The EOMP is a summation of the landing cost of the commodity with the subtotal margins like bridging fund, transporters’ cost, dealers charge, admin charge.

Politics / Zamfara Demolishes Corpers Fellowship Building by BenNnajiBLOG(m): 3:00am On Jan 20, 2016
The Zamfara Urban and Rural Planning Board on Tuesday visited the premises of the Nigeria Christian Corpers’ Fellowship in the state and demolished a building of the fellowship that was under construction.

The officials, who were in company with armed policemen and operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, came with a bulldozer, which broke down the fence of the lodge before pulling down the building.

Some youths in the community jubilated after the demolition.

According to Source some members of the host community had been against the construction of the fellowship’s building, stating that the fellowship wanted to build a church extension.
The Zamfara Urban and Rural Planning Board had said that only residential structures were allowed on the premises.

The NCCF had said they wanted to convert the structure into a multipurpose facility to accommodate more corps members, and later suspended the construction of the building.
The Zamfara State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. B.B Ballama, who visited the NCCF, described the demolition as sad and unfortunate.

He urged the corps members residing in the lodge to remain calm, noting that neither him nor the NYSC was informed of the demolition.

Ballama advised the corps members not to spread rumours, saying that he was already getting alarming calls that the corps members were violently attacked.

He said, “It is unfortunate that the building was demolished. This is not encouraging for youths who are ready to serve their fatherland. Irrespective of where we find ourselves, it is unfortunate. No matter what happened, Nigeria is Nigeria, and they (corps members) are Nigerians.”

The President, Zamfara NCCF, Ntah Ufot, who also addressed the corps members, urged them not to react in any unlawful way but to go to God in prayers.

He said, “We are sorry that the situation has resulted into this but we still give God the glory. You may be agitated but you have full cover from God.

“I know you have issues on your mind but you should learn to trust in your leaders that the matter will be resolved. The NCCF lodge remains the safest place for corps members.”

Members of the Christian Association of Nigeria also came to the lodge to assess the situation.

Politics / Suspected Pipeline Bombers Arrested By The Soldiers In Niger Delta by BenNnajiBLOG(m): 7:31am On Jan 19, 2016
Soldiers combing some communities in the Niger Delta geopolitical zone for vandals who bombed oil and gas installations in the area, have arrested two suspected pipeline bombers on Monday.

The Commander, Operation Pulo Shield, Maj. Gen. Alani Okunlola, told journalists in Warri on Monday that the suspects, though claimed they were fishermen, were arrested around Gbasamadu community in Delta State while allegedly supervising oil exploration in the area.

Okunlola, who spoke at a gas pipeline in Egwa Community, Warri South West Local Government Area of the state, said the action of the vandals was a ploy to sabotage the nation’s economy.

He said the military would not fold its hands and allow the perpetrators to get away with crime.
Okunlola urged the government and community leaders to give security agencies working in the Niger Delta useful information that could lead to the arrest of the vandals.

The commander assured Niger Delta residents of Operation Pulo Shield’s determination to wipe out all acts of illegalities in the region.

Meanwhile, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide have condemned attacks on oil facilities in some parts of the state.

Okowa’s condemnation was contained in a statement issued and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Asaba on Monday.
In the statement, he called on the people of the state to cooperate with the security agencies to unmask the criminals behind the crime.

Okowa also urged the security agencies to intensify their surveillance over the oil facilities while urging the youths to shun any temptation to be lured into such an act.
The statement quoted the governor to have pledged his administration’s commitment to support all measures aimed at restoring the confidence of all stakeholders in the oil and gas industry operating in the state.

“These attacks should be condemned by all well-meaning Nigerians, particularly, the compatriots from the Niger-Delta region.

“This is an attack on our souls, the state is bleeding again and its implication for the economy and image of Delta State is grave,” he said in the statement..

Politics / Senate May Dump ‘anti-social Media Bill’ - Punch by BenNnajiBLOG(m): 7:58am On Jan 11, 2016
Fresh indications emerged on Sunday that the Senate may dump the ‘Frivolous Petitions and other Matters Connected therewith Bill’ otherwise known as the ‘anti-social media bill’, on resumption from its current recess, tomorrow (Tuesday).

Investigations by our correspondent revealed that the leadership of the federal parliament, obviously uncomfortable with the barrage of criticisms that greeted the introduction of the bill, had started planning a way to carefully drop it.

Some lawmakers, who spoke with our correspondent on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the bill, explained that the mood in the red chamber at the moment was for the bill to be rested.

A senator from the South-West geopolitical zone said, “The initial plan was to allow the bill pass through public hearing so that the Senate would drop it based on the anticipated public opinion that would definitely be against the bill.

“However, another school of thought within the committee is arguing that allowing the bill to go through public hearing apart from being a waste of tax payers’ money, will further expose the senators to ridicule as media reports from the event will not be favorable.”

A cross-section of the senators agreed that there were laws already in place that could address virtually all the provisions of the proposed ‘anti-social media bill.’

One of them, said, “Majority of Nigerians believe that the traditional media, obviously because of their ownership structure, may not adequately air the views of the people as they would want it hence they are looking at the Senate bill as a means to gag their freedom of expression.”

A principal officer of the Senate, in an interview with our correspondent, said the bill was not aimed at gagging the media but a means to ensure that normal procedures were followed in publishing allegations against any individual or group of persons.

He also insisted that the bill would undergo the normal legislative process and that Nigerians would have the opportunity of the public hearing to express their views either for or against the proposed law.

Nigeria Will Not Be The Same If Anything Happen To Nnamdi Kanu – IPOB Raises Alarm Over His Health

Biafra – Worried by the deteriorating health of its incarcerated leader and Director of Radio Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, in the cell of the Department of State Service, DSS, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has raised an alarm, accusing the DSS of denying him medical treatment several times, claiming that attempts by his doctors to attend to him have been rebuffed by the DSS.

Addressing newsmen, yesterday, in Nnewi, IPOB Media and Publicity Officer, Mr. Emma Powerful alleged that the Federal Government through the DSS has perfected plans to systematically kill Kanu in the DSS cell by denying him doctors’ attention and subjecting him to torture on daily basis.

“Information from a reliable DSS source revealed that the Federal Government is also planning to transfer Mr. Kanu to a particular cell in the country where members of Boko Haram are detained, and it is their plan to kill him there,” he said

He said that IPOB had written the United Nations, the African Union, AU, United States of America, Russia, France, Israel, Britain and Amnesty International, including other relevant world bodies and organizations about the life threatening treatment being given to Kanu by the Federal Government through the DSS operatives.

IPOB wondered when the Nigerian government stopped granting detainees and suspects medical attention especially for somebody that had been granted bail by two courts of competent jurisdiction in the country but the government decided to continue incarcerating him.

IPOB therefore warned the All Progressives Congress, APC, government in Nigeria and President Buhari to release Kanu without further delay and also allow him to see his doctors, warning that “if anything happens to him, Nigeria will never know peace.“President Buhari and DSS will have no defence if they allow Mr. Kanu to die in the hands of DSS, more so when two competent courts of jurisdiction have granted him bail. To be forewarned is to be forearmed. A word is enough for the wise. Nobody is sure of his health condition now, and therefore, Kanu should be released and allowed to see his doctors.

resident Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly ordered for a downward review of the billions of Naira allocated to the Presidency in the 2016 Budget. This follows public outrage which have greeted the amount.

It was gathered on Tuesday that the President was angered at the bashing he was receiving over the billions allocated to his office, that of his vice, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, as well as Aso Rock as a whole. Details provided by Nigeria’s budget office shows that the presidency got N19billion.

Further details on the presidential budget are as follows: State House headquarters – N12billion; President’s operations – N1.9billion; Vice President’s operations – N322million; Chief of Staff – N2.3million; Chief Security Officer – N3.2million; Lagos liaison office – N127million; State House medical centre – N3.9billion; Feeding N445million. Most of the figures are higher than allocations budgeted for same departments in recent years under President Goodluck Jonathan.

A government official however said, the Budget Ministry had received presidential directive to slash the N19billion budget.

Earlier this month, Governor Rochas Okorocha reportedly approved N600 million for this Christmas tree and New Year decorations.

The cost is really shocking considering the fact that the state workers have not been paid salaries for several months.

Undoubtedly, the tree and its price have triggered emotional reactions among Nigerians who started blaming Governor Okorocha, appealing to his conscience.

Crime / Alert:robbers Now Attack Victims With Eggs -see Photo by BenNnajiBLOG(m): 10:53am On Dec 23, 2015
According to Naij.com.
A robbery victim who pleaded anonymity has exposed a strategy which robbers have devised to attack unsuspecting victims.

A picture obtained by National Helm showed that the robbers stone an egg at a car and force their unsuspecting victims to wipe off the mess after which the acts of robbery would be carried out.

He wrote: “If you are driving at night and someone throws eggs on your windshield (something rather unusual), do not use your wiper to clean it off with water cos eggs, when they are mixed with water become milky and you’ll see absolutely nothing at all. You will then be forced to stop you and get robbed at gunpoint by robbers waiting around.

"Leave the eggs on your windshield without trying to it clean up. Continue to drive (even faster) and try as much as possible not to stop on the road. The robbery using egg technique, is the last technique used by the thieves. Pls, spread this message widely. This is a message of prevention"

The group also sought the order of the court to declare the onslaught against IPOB members by security agencies as a crime against humanity, unlawful, cruel, inhuman and a violation of their rights to peaceful assembly, freedom of association and right to self determination.
According to Breaking Times, the group is demanding N100 million for families of each of the nine IPOB members who were killed and N50 million for each of the 18 injured during protests which took place on October 20 and December 2, in Anambra, Imo, Ebonyi, Bayelsa, Rivers and Delta states respectively.

Joined in the suit are the President; Attorney-General of the federation; the National Assembly; Chief of Army Staff; Inspector General of Police, Commissioners of Police in Imo, Anambra, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers states; Commandant-General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and Director-General, State Security Service.
Meanwhile, the IPOB has been warned by the Lagos state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The warning comes on the heels of hints that the pro-Biafra group is plotting to stage a mass demonstration in Lagos.
In a statement made by Joe Igbokwe the APC spokesman, the party warned that it will not allow politically sponsored hoodlums masquerading as pro-Biafran protesters or any other group to plunge Lagos into crisis.

“The troops discovered stockpile of farm produce in metal drums, sacks and underground storage facilities. Other items recovered included several bicycles and motorcycles. Some of the farmlands yet to be harvested were also set ablaze by the terrorists. A wooden rifle used for training and practice by the terrorists was also retrieved.”

In a related development, troops of 7 Division Garrison conducted 8 fighting patrols along Leje Axis.
Usman said that the troops cleared the area and about 15 other villages around Leje. They include Khadadamamari, Ladin Buta, Hilmari, Kashauri, Keshan Ngala, Aiwa, Masu Kura, Mabirni, Grza 1 and 2, Mashuari, Dubenge, Tauba and Majande.
