Politics / Re: Senate Replies Custom CG, Ali: You Must Appear Before Us InĀ uniform by BENVASCO(m): 5:36pm On Mar 14, 2017
Dongreat:
Those of you saying this man is arrogant are certainly blinded by the idiocy of the senate. This man can not be told to wear uniform like a school boy to a meeting, worse still forced to attend a meeting despite the senate fully aware he was already scheduled for another. What about the attendees of the other scheduled meeting, are they not human and shouldn't they be respected too? The senators are bunch of bullies who think any one will bend and kiss em a*s.
I love people who despite being subordinates will not eat poop from their boss. You are calling on a meeting yet you are enforcing a stiff code of dressing, brushing aside the attendants of the other schedules and not being humanly despite knowing great work can only be achieve if a boss and subordinate work symbiotic.
Worse they can do is relieve him of his job and he will get a better one but his dignity is still intact and at the end it's a big blow to the ego of em yeye senators.

Sir, Customs Management meeting cannot override a meeting scheduled by the National Assembly.

2. Customs CG is a rank and a rank can only be worn on a uniform.

3. He was given other options to voluntarily resign Ir disobey and be sacked.
The ball is in his court.

Appointing someone outside the service can only happen in Nigeria. Its a step to discourage people from venturing into the career since anybody can be made CG from anywhere, whether you have the knowledge or not.

There were more than 18 DCGs when he was appointed CG. These DCGs have been attended courses and seminars for more than 30 years then someone who only learnt how to shoot is made the General.

Something is wrong with our system. We need total restructuring. It must begin in Our constitution because the Customs Act permit appointment of CGs outside service personnels. This cannot be done in the Police or Prisons because of the Law. We need people who can take this up to stop this embarrassing appointment from happening again.

The hosting company has been accepting payment while its server has been down since February 3, 2017.

The company, after much efforts to contact them failed, posted on their Facebook page that they are experiencing technical
issues.

Currently, my six websites on that portal are down.

Many clients contacted NIRA to investigate the issue.

8. If you are detained by the police for any offence other than one punishable by death, you cannot be held for more than 24 hours before being brought before a court within forty kilometers having jurisdiction or a period of two days in any other case. You have the right to be released on bail with or without sureties.
Bail is FREE! It is a promise or undertaking made by an accused person to appear in the court of law or police station or any place required under the undertaking.

7. It is your right not to be forced or make a statement under duress by the police. A statement must be given voluntarily by the person making the statement without physical coercion or threats. It is your fundamental right not to be tortured into making a statement or confession. The 1999 Constitution grants you the right to dignity of human person which prohibits anyone from torturing you.

Dasuki's case was different as there were prima facie evidence.

He also exercised his rights to some extent. However, it was a different body that arrested Dasuki. Each paramilitary has its own powers and limitations.

6. You cannot be forced to write a statement without seeing your lawyer first. You have a right to have your lawyer present with you if you are arrested for a suspected crime and cannot be denied the right to consult your lawyer before writing any statement. Any statement you are forced to write after being denied this right is inadmissible against you in court. If you are to write a statement with the police, ensure you write the statement yourself or confirm the statement written is accurate before you sign it. When signing your statement, make sure you date it.

5. No matter the harassment you receive from the police or the offence you are accused of, YOU ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY BY A COURT OF LAW! This right is guaranteed by Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

4. The police do not have the right to arrest you for an offence committed by another person no matter your relationship with that person. Stories abound of family members of suspected offenders being detained by the police when they are unable to find the suspect. You cannot be held accountable for the crimes committed by another person.

3. Should the police attempt to arrest you, you have the right to know what offence you are being accused of. There have been, unfortunately, various cases of people being arrested by the police without being informed the reason for their arrest. The police do not have the right to hold you or question you without telling you what offence you are suspected of committing.

2. The police cannot confiscate any properties unrelated to the alleged crime that led to the search of your premises. You have the right to retrieve any property unlawfully confiscated during a search and claim damages against the police.

Got this from Nigerian No.1 human right group page.
Written by Barr Kingsley Ughe

YOUR RIGHTS DURING POLICE ENCOUNTER !
The average Nigerian does have certain rights the police cannot ignore:

1. The Nigeria Police do not have the right to search your premises without a search warrant or an authorization written and signed by a superior police officer of a rank above cadet assistant superintendent of police. You have the right to demand to see and read the warrant or authorization for the search. Denial of this right is a violation of your rights.

Yesterday, a legal aid group popular known as JOINT LEGAL ACTION AID (JLAA) challenged the unlawful arraignment of Ms Maimuna Zabauru who has been on Prison for 9 years. The team was led by the General Counsel, Barr Kingsley Ughe supported by some Prominent Lawyers.

The Human right group has been operating for free, membership also free and have promised to be the pace setter in campaign for peace , justice , fairness and good governance.

The group is headed by Barr. Kingsley Ughe, a powerful lawyer known by many especially security agencies because of his frequent interventions and campaign for fairness and respect for the rule of law.

The group also released two of it's members illegally detained and charged to court by a Police DPO in Lagos after a mass protest by the group.

MAIMUNA ZUBAIRU LEFT PRISONS FOR FREEDOM LATE YESTERDAY EVENING AFTER 9 YEARS THANKS TO JLAA.
We were at the Magistrate Court, behind Guinness , Ogba for the impromptu court arraignment of Friday Ojie Asuelimhen and Chris Ifeanyi , the two JLAA members maliciously charged to court for "breach of the peace" by police because they insisted, on the instructions of JLAA, that bail is free and would not grease a corrupt palm.
They were granted a very lenient bail by the Court, of one surety each who must show evidence of being lawfully employed and fifty thousand Naira bond.
Surprisingly, perfecting their bail took the whole day. Barrister Stanley Ughe and I eventually left the court premises way after 4pm late evening. But it was all worth it. An opportunity to hurl defiance at injustice and impunity.
Importantly, Barrister Opeyemi Baderu and his team were giving us regular updates on the Maimuna Zubairu release process. She eventually left prisons at about 5;27pm and handed over to the Hausa/Fulani Community of Lekki/Epe , Lagos.
I was sad I couldn't be there to share in her joy at that very defining moment. But I was elated and delirious with excitement. .Both for Maimuna and for for YOU ALL, every JLAA member out there who through your financial contributions and prayers made all these possible. I hope to meet her in coming days and have a picture session with her and little Amina.
The true essence of humankind is kindness and looking out for the poor, the afflicted, the dispossessed and the abandoned prisoners in their lonely dark cells.
There are other qualities which come from education or knowledge, but it is essential, if one wishes to be a genuine human being and impart satisfying meaning to one's existence, to have a good heart. In JLAA, the goodness of your heart has brought smiles to sad faces and joy to grieving hearts.
In life you can never be too kind or too fair; everyone you meet is carrying a heavy load. When you go through your day expressing kindness and courtesy to all you meet, you leave behind a feeling of warmth and good cheer, and you help alleviate the burdens everyone is struggling with.
Those who make compassion an essential part of their lives find the joy of life. Kindness deepens the spirit and produces rewards that cannot be completely explained in words. I will specially love to say a profound and special thank you"
