Properties / Re: Complete My House Or Travel Abroad? by Biggybountz: 8:07pm On Jul 06, 2020
Oracle55:
Please my fellows i need your advice, i am in between 2 choices. I have this land i just bought and wana build my house i have fenced it and out gate but i am thinking if to use the money i got to develop the land or i use it and travel abroad (uk ) for my masters pls advice me.

For those abroad is it easy there and can i get a good job after my masters or i should remain here in Nigeria and get married?

I will need to sell my car and properties if i am to travel.

Please help move to front page for more views and suggestions thanks

Hi

I might be wrong, but from your post I have an impression you are yet to hit you 30s. If that is the case, then it is good to see this from a risk point of view.

1 - Age seems to be on your side and this is the time you can take the gambles for a life changing decision, (and still have time to make amends/recover the losses should it not go as planned). Given this, my shot will be considering taking a Masters abroad, you are equally not married yet, so what better time do you have to take a chance?

2 - The challenges here is the present economic downturn in most countries now, UK, US etc name it, due to the Pandemic. The truth is it is challenging to get a job opportunities right now, however not impossible. For survival, you can start with blue collar jobs to foot bills and earn your savings, these jobs are relatively easier to come by, they will keep you going while you integrate and position yourself strategically for a professional job in the long term. I.T career/study is a plus, the world has strongly moved to this.

3 - If you take the chance for a UK Study - UK as a case study here, you have 3 years (1 yr study & 2yrs post study). Working round the clock during this period, you can save enough money and recover the capital you have used in sponsoring your Masters and even build yourself the house you might be knocking off now (dependent on the quality of house). This is a Win-Win in the end (bear in mind i don't know what opportunities you might be leaving in Nigeria - up to you to put this in consideration).

4 - What if you take the chance, you end up getting a job, and even get to stay back depending on what opportunities you get here (which you never know until you try) - That's a win.

5 - Most importantly, plan your path for an economic immigration (so that you ain't going back Naija) - research on countries that gives better opportunities for staying back compared to the UK. e.g Canada. Network and talk to people already in the foreign system. They have handy experience.

6 - With this Pandemic, you might wanna hold back a bit e.g for a year to see how economies open up and things shape up. Alot of economies will be opening up for economic immigrants e.g students as the tuition is seen as revenue.

7 - In summary, it is all about risk taking but this is best time to take such risk. When you get older, married etc., you will have so much commitments that will influence your risk taking ability and decisions to travel at that point.

Best of luck.

Champagne Popping!! grin grin grin grin grin First Time Bidder !!!

My Bid through GTB has been successful in this instance as I have seen so many debit alerts come in in the last couple of hours.

I advised the bank to go by their own rate as I have not dictated a rate for them. By my calculations from the amount debited off my account i have computed the rates as:

91days - 12.9%
182days - 16.4 %
365days - 17.4 %

All in all I am happy as I have gone through a lot of pain before these finally come through. At this point, here are my concerns below:

1) What is the proof or evidence that I hold TBs? and they were taken through GTB? as I have not been formally contacted by GTB yet. No documentation whatsoever.

2) How do i know the maturity dates? I have no documentation at all.

3) how do i go about selling them should the need arise?

Thanks to everyone who has contributed here, every contribution has resulted in my successful bid today, I took the pain to read from page 1 and have not regretted doing so. I wish the property section was this informative.

Sorry about the font size. I have tried changing them to small fonts but cant get my way around doing this

Ill-luck for me with GTB. Both 91days and 182 unsuccessful.

verbatim from my account officer:

The bids for 91days and 182days were unsuccessful.

So,your requests could not be processed
.

Anyone have a suggestion on the next step after this let down?

Thanks

If you have up to X + y in your account, you can purchase different tenors.

If however you have just enough to cover either of X and y, she is right to ask you to confirm your instruction.

Yes I Do have Over the sum of X and Y in my account which is sufficient for the two bids. I have also clearly stated in my written instruction that X amount is for 91days and Y amount is for 182days respectively. That's why I don't understand why she needs any further clarification or is she just implying that I can't bid on two tenures at a go?

Morning Ladies and Gents,

So I did put in my bid request with GTB yesterday. I requested to have X amount invested for 91days and Y amount for 182days respectively. Making it two individual bids for two different tenors. I put this information all in a single written letter. My account officer has come back with this:

"However, please be informed that two bid tenors can not be placed for one request. please reconfirm the exact tenor you want."

MY QUESTIONS
1-like her response says, is it impossible to name 2 bids for two different tenors at a go with a bank?

Or do I have to simply write two different requests for each rather than writing a single request letter for both?

Thanks

Morning All,

I must say a big thank you to every one that has contributed here in terms of questions and answers. Every information here has been insightful as I have taken my time to read through for weeks now.

My Questions & Circumstance

- I am presently not resident in Nigeria and not plans to be around anytime soon.
- I have a current account with GTB which I have just started
- my GTB account officer has advised me on investing in fixed deposit (5.5% pa). This suggestion is not best for me as TB seems to have a greater yield
-I have asked her about GTB TBills and her response was its the investment arm of the bank that specialises in that and she will advise me to do fixed deposit instead

My Questions

1) am I able to invest in the TBills and monitor it closely without my physical presence in Nigeria?
2) Is anyone on here currently investing in GTB TBills and able to give me a piggyback so I can be more informed, will appreciate guidelines and suggestions on who to speak with within GTB from you. Thanks in advance.
3) What is the CBN stop rate, I have read about bidding below/above it on here. But it still remains unclear, what are the advantages or disadvantages of bidding below/above it?
4) am I able to quote my own acceptable rate and what are the disadvantage/advantages of doing this?

Thanks a lot to every one. Happy Sunday to us all!

Hi all

For a plot of land, I just need an insight to the minimum amount it will cost to construct a 4flat upstairs/downstairs 3bedroom in each flat please. I appreciate that things have been inflated recently and standards are different but I just need a minimum estimate expected for a building that's at least up to par I.e up to average acceptable standard.

Thanks

Hello people please i need some urgent help and insight on the authenticity of a survey.

I just received my survey done for a land i just purchased, surveyor told me it is a red copy(original and not a provisional one). but he sent the survey to me a couple of days ago and the survey is not embossed, it only has a stamp on it, but from the other surveys i have seen with my friends, i can see they are normally embossed( like an engrave), if u get my explanation.

Please is this a genuine red copy survey? its for a property in Ibadan

Lero15: Your name, age, state of origin, sec skl, higher institutn wit dates, nysc, job experiences, family background (if specifically asked), and hobbies.

Wow, well I am not saying This is bad but please don't start this way except perhaps you are looking for a schoolboy position.

You have to start with something captivating and relevant to the position. E.g competencies and skills, and don't just mention them, relate them like a story.

For instance, in my last interview and Ofcourse I go the job the following day, I started with (I do get a lot of compliments from my friend about being creative and taking initiative, so I enjoy anything and roles in life that brings me such opportunities) , this is because I knew thy were looking for someone who can take initiatives. Just when I said this, over 5people sitting on there desk in the interview room, doing something different turned around to have a look at me, immediately I knew I had done well, drawn attention. There and then u gain your confidence as carry on.

Just my piece, typing from a phone sorry so can't say a lot.

Cheers

I'm sorry man.

No worries bro. Like i said you have some points, the truth is bitter and the fact remains we blacks keep shying away from reality as you can see from some of the comments on here.

We are the enemy of ourselves, keep blaming the western world. Okay one excuse is 'the western world is stealing from us'. So now that we have realised that, can our leaders not do something about it? Hell No! Its excuses upon excuses and greed/selfcenteredness.

Pardon me if our leaders have a strategy or long term goal which i am ignorant about, but I see no reasons why Nigeria particularly is not part of the BRIC(Brazil, Russia, India and China), all we keep screaming is black don't crack, black is beauty, blah blah blah until the world leaves us behind.

Have a good day man and no to Racism, laters!

If you are a racist, good luck to you!. You do have some sensible points, but you don't have to come across as a racist. Next time, argue with some degree of intellect.

Car Talk / Re: Honda Ball Joints And Upper Arms Problem by Biggybountz: 9:30pm On Sep 20, 2013
Quite an interesting topic. I am not a mechanic but u think I have got an idea on how to manage this problem. I used an Isuzu trooper and at some point it gave these squeaky noise as if metals are grinding when you turn your wheels especially to the extremes, I believe this is thesame problem these Honda products have got and the wheels will eventually pull apart.

Possible solution
Anyway I will share a solution that worked for me from my experience with my trooper.excuse my descriptions as I am not sure of what mechanical terms to use. If you take a look at the arms of your wheels, they seem to extend into a sort of joint (describe it as ball joint), at the point of this joint, there is a rubber protection which houses this joint, this rubber housing contains grease which lubricates the joint. Often time, cause of the Nigerian bad road, this rubber housing is very susceptible to wears and tears as they could easily rub against uneven bumps/gallops/soils on our roads. Also, the rubber has potentials of losing its elasticity after a long use (in other words, expiring). When this happens, this rubber tears, exposing the joint to debris/stones/ water and all sorts, also the grease in the housing meant for lubrication tends to excape through the rubber opening.

Therefore, the noise you hear when you turn you wheels is as a result of the materials that have gone into this housing, and also the grease loss which makes the joint susceptible to friction. After a long time, the friction and debris materials wear out the balls in the joint, and the balls tend to fall off, weakening the joint and making wheels pull apart eventually.

Having known this, I would normally check the rubber housing on my Isuzu trooper wheels every week to see if the rubbers are still in shape. If I notice any weakness I often take them off myself, put a new genuine rubber and equally grease the joints up. It worked for me and I never had such problem.

I think that joint is called shaft or something by the local mechanics.

Your mechanic won't teach you this cause your wheels pulling apart is their source of income, it was my mechanic who taught me to do this as we eventually really got close.

Just my idea which worked for me for several years. Thanks

Cunt_Destroyer:

first and foremost you are a f00l to think that the problems curently plaguing Mali do not have religious and racial undertones.

You cannot remove the root of the crisis from the argument.

These soldeirs are going to clean up shop were salafist muslims have taken root.

How common is this case scenario in the world we live in today; muslims screw shitt up and we are made to clean it up or tolerate it forsake we are not called biggots and if we dare criticize Islam we are called islamaphobes.

grow some common sense first before posting crap

oi... you are entitled to your opinion, as much as I am entitled to mine!....meanwhile if u need to throw more light to an arguement or perhaps enlighten people if you feel you are more knowledgeable, you don't need to be insultive to people, it is obvious to anyone that the militants have a religious tie...that taken! thats not my arguement and I am not disputing that... All i have advised is that people coming on here to preach about the end time, preaching and quoting religious verses and blah blah should open another thread for that, I suppose we were meant to argue the Nigerian Troop's operations in Mali and not preach on here..... read my English oga!...and learn not too be too insultive especially when you have miss interpreted someone else' arguement!
Politics / Re: Pictures Of Nigerian Troops Arrival In Mali by Biggybountz: 10:49pm On Jan 18, 2013
Well, firstly to those who think the Nigerian troops are merely there for headcount sakes with no strategy... I think you should understand that a military group wouldn't fight without strategy, Strategy is fundamental to Military!!!....So desist from badmouthing and saying they may lack strategy, no military will operate without strategy, even the lamest local boko haram operates with strategy if you really know what strategy means..Now what I assume you should be talking about is how effective and efficient is our troops' strategy?...its completely lame to say 'No strategy'...deploying a troop down requires strategy in the first place!!!

And Secondarily, fighting the Malian militants itself i believe is one of the Nigerian military strategy to weaken the source and confidence of our own disturbing Boko Haram. Meanwhile I believe we have to prepare for the possible long term consequences back here in Nigeria, You can see how the Algerian Militants went ahead to hold Hostages and raid in Algeria upon being alerted that the French troop had started operating in Mali.

Goodnight mates! this is a very educative thread, and please you folks already arguing about Christianity and signs of end time should open another thread for that, I am a christian and Its a shame to say that this religion matter that has completely blindfolded my fellow Nigerians is one of our major problems..take your nonsense religious arguements somewhere else and let us argue and learn from our common sense.

An individual's ultimate outcome is related to a complex interplay between nature, nurture and choice.

Having said that, our society has largely failed to produce 'Men' and indeed 'women'. What we have are a lot of grossly overgrown kids. Evidnce of this abounds in many a Nairaland post.

Being a 'man' or a 'woman' is a constant endeavor that one must continuously strive to achieve.

We need to do more individually and collectively to make sure we are and our children become the right kind of men and women
