To answer your question: Datti Ahmed is a good man with pure heart. I hold him in high-esteem irrespective of his bad choice of political alliance with enemies of the country. Politics / Re: Peter Obi's ''Moving From Consumption To Production'' Policy May HURT You. by Bioko2: 12:20am On Feb 11, 2023 |
Napata77: Whenever Peter Obi says in his speeches that he will move Nigeria ''from consumption to production'', everyone cheers, and says ''Yes! This is a real leader! This is what we want!''
But how many of you have actually stopped to examine what he means by this policy, and how he will go about implementing it?
Because the truth is, EVERY country on Earth that shifted dramatically from consumption to production, did so via dictatorial rule. Not through a democratic process. China, Russia, North Korea, Iran, Cuba, Vietnam, Zimbabwe...
There is a reason for this. It is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to get people to voluntarily agree to inconvenience themselves in any way, shape, or form, for the greater good, or for the greater vision.
YOU HAVE TO FORCE THEM.
Now, moving Nigeria ''from consumption to production'' will mean a lot of changes.
- First, money circulation will be tightened. That is the first step in getting people to consume less - by making less money available for them to spend.
- Drastic cut in imports. Now, you simply cannot keep your current importation levels and talk with any seriousness about reducing 'consumption'. You WILL have to ban MANY items we currently import. Because their presence here is the biggest disincentive to local manufacturers, who are 'crowded out' by their cheaper prices wrought by their advantage of Economies of Scale (the more you produce the cheaper it is per unit). The clampdown on imports will hurt Obi's kinsmen more than anyone else, as they dominate the import business. Will they withdraw their support when it hits them?
So what items will be banned? Nobody knows. But it could be stuff that YOU need, or are used to having. It could be smuggled in, but you'll pay three times more, if you're lucky.
- Petrol Subsidies removed. This will cause a sharp increase in inflation, and is one of Obi's most loudly-voiced policies.
- Salary cuts. A presidential platform based on austerity will likely lead to salary cuts and non-payment (or delayed payment) of salaries as money supply contracts in the economy. Expect a quadrupling of strikes.
- Reduced infrastructure spending. The Obi platform seems unconvinced about the utility of large infrastructural projects. This will create a problem when 'production' commences in earnest and there is no major transport and logistics infrastructure to evacuate finished goods from source to market efficiently and cost-effectively. The inability to evacuate goods will lead to a stalling of productive processes, and factories lying idle. High unemployment will persist, and social discontent will multiply.
- Political turmoil. As the contradictions in his policies became ever more stark and glaring, the Obi government may resort to extra-judicial methods to silence critics and opposition, leading to widespread human rights abuses, unexplained disappearances and assassination of political opponents.
- Intensification of Japa phenomenon. As the economy slides and the political scene deteriorates, more Nigerians will be forced top flee the country in search of greener pastures.
You're a shameless cocksúcker JASONjnr: This post is senseless....

Celebrities / Re: P Squared And Seun Kuti: The Tale Of Reversed Tribalism by Bioko2: 7:45pm On Feb 10, 2023 |
sgtponzihater1: This was a simple matter. Seun rightly thinks the coming election is another scam and has put up an intellectual reason for this. He not only lambasted Peter Obi for his opportunistic tendencies, but went ahead to poke holes in Sowere's presidential dream. Sowere supporters have not come out to insult Seun. Seun Kuti have always remained firm in his clamour for truth and justice, and has always been critical about those in power, who he has called corrupt and rogues.
Peter and Paul Okoye have only become conscious because their brother, "Peter Obi", is contesting for president. They danced recklessly for Buhari less than a decade ago, and today have remained poorly behaved and intolerant to the opinion of others.
A sane society is one where everyone can cohabit with different opinion without being attacked. However Peter Psquare is far from having any modicum of decorum, he quickly lashed at Seun, saying he has erased the legacy of his father. Who is Peter to refer to Fela Kuti? When does having an opinion count for erasing ones father's legacy. I could not find anywhere Seun supported Tinubu or Atiku.
The next straw was Seun being tribalistic. When I hear tribalism coming up, I have found that the real tribalists are those who tag others as one. They live un-harrassed in other peoples territory and are quick to call their host names, while the doors to their cities and opportunities are shut to strangers. There is the video of the Okoye's blasting Peter for marrying a Yoruba woman, this folks have no moral basis for even using the word tribalistic.
I have known Seun for years, and I can always guarantee that he'll stand on the path of truth and justice. I have known Peter for years, and I know he brags about how much he has, and does a gambling business to rip "have nots" of the little they have gathered.
The surprise is the tribalists who were complaining about Peter Obi, his tenure and how he tried to impose a candidate on the Anambra people are now calling him a god sent, yet cannot at least show one stand out project he did. If it was Donald Duke who implemented a waste management system, implemented tourism, re-made road with kerbs for pedestrians, upgraded town centres in Calabar, then it would have been a different story. But Peter Obi was not even in the radar when he was governor.
In the words of Soludo, "Peter Obi himself knows that he will not win, only Peter knows the game that he is playing"
God be for all the just

Crime / Re: The Bike Man In Lagos by Bioko2: 5:53pm On Feb 10, 2023 |
DesChyko: Commercial motorcycles (otherwise called okada) are banned in many areas in Lagos. It is also banned to an extent around Mile 2 axis. However, with the road constructions underway at many points from Mile 2 down to Badagry; coupled with the slow pace at which the work is going (and the roads that are perpetually bad),okada remains the most sensible means of navigating around that area.
Using a private car doesn't even give much succour except the car flies. The alternatives to not using the services of okada are to leave home at ungodly hours to beat heavy traffic as well as to spend useful man hours in a traffic jam to and from work. When you factor in the mixbag of odours in a public bus, the decision to board them really isn't hard to make.
Unfortunately, the okada men, while doing great service to people in dire need for normal movement, are not really having a field day. A trip from Okoko to Mile 2 or vice versa costs about 1500 for 2 people, give or take. A bus ride for 2 people costs about1000. And the time saved is worth double the double of the bus fare.
Back to the plight of the Okada man, a fitting explanation to explain their predicament is that riding a bike as a means of survival is a curse along this axis and the demons come in civilian and military flavours to exert judgement. I will share a story.
On my way back on Tuesday evening, I alighted at Mile 2 and scanned for a sharp looking bike, and I saw this one driven by a young dude. So we potential passengers struck a bargain for #1200. Before we left Mile 2, he stopped to buy petrol at #350/ltr. The petrol dispenser was unavailable for whatever reason, so it was a street thug that sold the fuel. He kept begging the bike man to let him have his change, and eventually, the Okada man gave him #50, so #400 boom. We set off.
Around First Gate area, two men flagged down the bike. The first one (I later got to know, is a police man) smiled as he approached the bike man. The bike man asked me to help him with my fare and I gave him #1000 first. The police man snatched the money, split it in 500 - 500 and pocketed one of it. He then moved away. Soon as he was gone, the NURTW boys (called LASPAG now or so) came and collected the other 500. I was speechless. We haven't even covered 1/4 of the journey and everything he hoped to get from me has vanished.
Unlike how we were discussing before, we finished the rest of the journey mostly in silence. My heart went out to him. For all the toiling, people just waiting by the side to reap where they didn't sow are setting up shop here and there to rip him (and others). So sad.
I met him again today; he was reminded of whom I was and we began our journey since we already have a set price from yesterday. I jokingly told him I hope today will not be like yesterday and he shrugged. Reality would quickly set in. At the same point, those same two fellows were standing at First Gate.
This time, I already made up my mind to not give the man my fare yet. He pleaded with them to let him go and come back but they won't have that. The policeman grabbed the money in the guy's pockets; which totalled 450. He took 300 and left 150 for the bike man. Soon as he was done, the NURTW guy came around and asked the bikeman to complete the sum to 500. The bikeman pleaded that he didn't have money. And his slippers was seized, for him to come back with the money and get it.
He had to leave it there for the while and we continued our journey. Further down, we saw another 'checkpoint' but this time, it's just thugs wielding some plastic pipes. He was flagged down and asked to 'drop his money'. He tried begging them to let him go. This time, his fez cap was taken and he was asked to come back and get it when he has the complete money.
I thought I was being influential by hoarding the fare; felt there must be a way he can manage to escape; Felt it can't be possible that he pays 'that much' for random individuals on the road..
