More nonsense. Forest Rangers should be a state function. I don't want any Fulani trained person in my states forest.

Politics / Re: Soludo Fights Fellow Governors For Proposing 70k Minimum Wage by bjdon: 8:43pm On May 18
We operate a Federal system so the concept of natioanl minimum wage is actually incorect. The FG should set a minumum wage for federal workers and the states should set their own minimum wage based on their local conditions. The mimumum wage in Lagos for example, should does not have to be the same as for Yobe state.

Mrexcell:

If nigeria is not ripe for state police then nigeria is not also ripe for either independence or even restructuring. The advantages of state police outweighs the disadvantages imagine a situation where fulaniherdsmen will be killing and sacking innocent people in their own communities but the state governor can't do absolutely nothing because he doesn't have the constitutional powers to order his commissioner of police to go after the foreign fulani invaders we have seen this happen in enugu, benue and other states.

Totally agree with you. Many people forget that state governors are already the chief law enforcement officers in their states. The DPP and courts are already under them. The simple fact is we can't keep putting off what is necessary due to fear of abuse. State police does not mean there will not still be Federal police, it just means the roles and responsibilities will now change. Things like traffic control, CID, forensics can all be done at the state level, while things like anti riot, elections..can remain with the Federal police

We need state police, even community police as well. It's a total fantasy to think one single Nigerian police force can police a nation of over 200 million people
What is also needed is proper regulation and oversight to ensure abuses are kept to a minumum by dubious governors

Crime / Re: Pastor Ebenezer Oduntan Jailed In The UK For Pocketing Church Funds by bjdon: 8:59pm On May 13
This is the simple reason why the west is developed and Africa is not. THE RULE OF LAW. In the west they do send anybody, you break the law you are going down. Plain and Simple. It's so annoying seeing Nigerians brining their corrupt lawless ways to developed countries, trying to mess up these places, like they have messed up their own country. I hope they deal with this one very well in prison.

I am from the Niger Delta (Edo) and sadly I have to disagree with the governor. Niger delta governors since 1999 have been the most usless, corrupt grups of rascals the nations has produced. He's moaning about 13%, what have the governors done with the 13% they get? Acorss the 6 Niger Delta states, is there any proper cancer diagnosis facility in any of the state hospitals? Is any of the sttes that boast that all the primary and secondary school buildings of are in a good condition or all the kids have seats in thier classes?
Even if you gave the SS 100% revenue allocation, the states will still be a mess, the governors will just buy more properites and pirvate planes. They are evil and selfish.
Its better the FG takes the money uses it to develop the whole country

You simply don't get it. Politics is all about PERCEPTION. Do zi think the costal road will improve the economy of my state*Edo) not really. However the opposition to this project, by the SE, is creating a perception in many in the SS, that the SE do not care about them. It may be sound and moral economics to oppose the project, but its bad politics. The 'Path to power' for an Igbo candidate is already steep enough. Why make it even steeper? Why do you think the North are not saying anything about the project?

Nigeria will learn in a very hard way. They should just announce Tinubu is dead so we found ourselves back in the hands of Boko Haram
Nigerians are programmed for suffering. It's in their DNA. That's the only logical reason why after suffering so much under Buhari, people with clear eyes went to vote for Tinubu. Let me suffer more self. They seem to enjoy it

I will say it again, as SS person who strongly supported PO in the last election, PO and the Igbos need to drop this matter. There are many other things to attack the govt over. Tinubu has laid a trap for PO and the Igbos, and they are walking right into it. Support for PO is dropping fast across the SS. Come 2027 you can already see the attack line APC will deploy in the SS. 'The Igbos don't want the SS to develop....'. In politics you don't give you enemy amunition.

Culture / Re: Benin Traditional Council Suspends Five Chiefs For Pledging Alliance To Ooni by bjdon: 9:21am On Apr 28
DeLaRue:
The Yoruba Internet warriors are a big part of the problem.

There is nothing wrong if Oba of Benin traces his lineage back to Ife. Both the Oba and the Ooni are comfortable with the true story.

But this new Internet generation have turned the whole thing into 'Yoruba owns Edo', 'Edo is Yoruboid' etc None of these is correct.

Edos are a proud people, with a distinct culture and civilisation. They're not Yoruboid and don't want to hear that nonsense.

I don't see why the Oba having Yoruba lineage should be a problem. If anything, it is something to be celebrated and honoured by him and the Ooni and used to bring their 2 people together.

The Oba of Benin is probably concerned that his people will hold his self-confessed Yoruba lineage against him. That is understandable in the context of petty political and civic rivalries that Africans in particular excel at.

People, particularly some of these Yoruba internet youths should butt out of this matter and let Edo people be.

Thank you my brohter. In Nigeria today we seem to have a problem in knowing the difference between where origins of a people and identiy of a people.
Nobody is doubting that the Oba of Benin orignated from the line of Oduduwa, just as the Olu of Warri descended from the Benin Royal line, via Ginuwa. This is does not make Benin, Yorubaland, anymore than Warri is Benin land. On the global level, the British founded modern Australia and New Zealand and Canada. In fact in those countries the British King is still their head of state, yet the British will not go and say Canada is 'British landd' or Australia is 'British land'
Benin is an independent ancient culture with some roots in youruba land. Benin is NOT and has NEVER been part of Yorubaland.

The only way Tinubu can loose is if all the oppositon agree to come together, just like CPC, AC and nPDP did in the run up to 2015. Does anyone really see Peter Obi agreeing to step down for El-Rufai or Atiku? As long as its 3 or more candiates in the election, Tinubu wins again

Since I was born, I know say people dey beg and bill. It was not that bad during Abacha time or IBB time or even Obasanjo times, now with Tinubu it is very bad. People are begging to survive or billing to survive. You cannot enjoy your money in peace, the billing now is at all time high. Now you see grown men asking small boy for money, people wey you never imagine - come dey beg. It is very bad and I blame the Government for horrible economic turnout.
There is suffering in the country, I hate Nigeria for the way it is turning out to be. Imagine old man begging for money from a small yahoo boy. Too many eye service for the wrong people because people are hungry so they can soak garri to bellyful.
I agree the FG policies have made things a lot worse, but people must also start holding their state govts to account. Since fuel subsidy was removed, the monthly FAAC allocations to states has actually gone up. What are the governors doing with the funds? Why are we not seeing projects like small call farming and processing being supported by the states. it's really difficult for the country to move forward when 2 out of 3 of the tiers of govt, are basically 'Missing In Action'

Imagine a situation where I have to pay someone's NEPA bill of #2000. I was speechless seeing a man with his family begging a fellow that he shouldn't cut off their light. they would pay him the money next month that he should have mercy on them considering the fact that things are hard these days..

Immediately the guy left, I went to the man and asked him what happened he said it was NEPA bill. I asked how much he said 2k. I told him to call the guy. He did, I gave the guy the 2k. Omo, it was like I paid his children's school fees. Even his wife was thanking me.

I shook my head in disbelief and left.

Nonsense! If after 60 years of independece we are not ready for state police, then when will we be ready. The IGP and his type just want to continue this model of excess power at the center which gives them the opportunity to chop and chop with no limit. We need to restructure the nation and breaking up the police not just into state but also city police is badly needed

Politics / Re: Booming Illegal Firearms Market In North Worrisome - Ribadu Says by bjdon: 10:27am On Apr 19
The whole reason Luggard amalgamated the North and south was for the richer south to subsidze the poorer north. Over 100 years later, nothing has changed. Southern oil, gas and VAT revenue flows to the North, and still they remain poor, uneducated, and retched. It's a proven FACT that southern presidents create more wealth for the nation (OBJ, GEJ and now BAT). No notherner should be allowed to rule Nigeria, unless he can show how he has REDUCED poverty his part of the north. All the northern rulers know is spend spend spend. No clue on how to generate funds

The other thing that MUST change is all aspects of quota system. The north can NEVER progress when its people are not properly educated.
Politics / Re: Oba Of Benin Commissions Olumide Akpata’s Project (Pictures) by bjdon: 2:48pm On Apr 14
Penguin2:

You know I didn’t know Obaseki was fighting the Oba of Benin until I met a man from Edo about a week ago.

The man is from Edo North, I think Etsako, but he told me the Oba will not support whoever Obaseki presents because of the squabble between them; to the extent some Benin sons used to come from abroad to attend the court sitting of the case Obaseki has with the Oba in court.

Now, it seems the Oba has tacitly chosen Akpata as his own candidate. And should the Benin people of Edo South give him bloc vote, Akpata would have one leg in the government house.

I wonder why Obaseki would fight the Oba. And this man from Edo told me that Obaseki’s ancestor was behind the banishment of the Oba of Benin during the Colonial era I guess. He said the current Oba was against Obaseki’s candidacy when Oshiomole presented him to the Oba but Oshiomole assured the Oba that Obaseki would not be like his fathers but it seems Oshiomole was wrong.

Things seem to be aligning for Akpata.
Dream on. PDP will sweep the polls. Olumide has no structure in Edo state

Politics / Re: Reno Omokri: Can Air Peace Survive Emirates Return To Nigeria? by bjdon: 6:28pm On Apr 12
The FG could do the folowing:
Designate Air Peace as a company of 'Strategic National Importnace'. Give them access to extrmely low interest rate business credit, direct from CBN. Give them tax exemptions for the next 3 years. Give them waivers on aiport landing costs at MM Airport.

All these will help them in the price war with the foriegn airlines.

Air peace should look at offering full ticket options, for example Enugu/Owerri/Akure/Benin/Asaba.. To London. If someone can book from Asaba, check in your luggage in Asaba, fly to Lagos and then to London, that will be big advantage and many pepople would go for that. The same on return, you check in your laugguage in London, and pick it up, when you arrive in Enugu/Asaba/ Benin..
Air peace should leverage their domestic network to offer a full serive that the likes of BA and virgin can't
