Hello Guys,

I arrived Canada on the 1st of September. It has not been easy. If I knew what I know now I would have thought seriously about this school thing. God has been merciful to me. My advice to anyone coming to BC...don't count on the idea that you can work part time to pay your fees or survive here. I live in Vancouver Island and attend VIU. Most of my classmates are Indians and most of them are only interested in getting residence. They get visa easily and can take a loan from their local bank to deposit money for their fees. If you ever get into project groups with them you are on your own. You will do the work yourself because they really don't care about their grades.

If you are coming to VIU or anywhere in BC, please come with Nigerian food stuffs like dry pepper and palm oil. Its very expensive. Don't joke o. Carry indomie..it is a life saver. I came with Garri Ijebu and groundnut. I came with pepper soup spice (fish and meat is cheap). Come with umbrella, rain boot and rain coat...it rains like hell in Vancouver and Vancouver Island but its not as cold as the other parts of the freezer (Canada is freaking cold...no bi joke) I brought all the Igbo food stuffs I can carry and forgot income. Please carry coffee and milo. You will thank me for it.

I stayed at an airbnb for one week before I found a house. Its not cheap and also because I wanted my family to join me I needed to get a bigger house and used the rent agreement in the visa application for my family. I applied for their visa on the 23rd and they received approval last two weeks.

People on this island are seem nice (like British nice..they pretend). There are jobs during holidays like now..everyone is hiring part-time workers. People here will tell you that come January...it is dry. No Work!!!

My advice to anyone coming to BC or even Canada; go and learn something. Guys, if you can learn how to cut hair..you will be very comfortable. You won't need to do any silly part time work. Ladies if you can learn to weave hair and fix weavon...you will be ok..trust me...you will be a big shot!. Don't come here thinking you can just do part time work and pay your fees without getting into trouble. I am not saying you can't wing it but trust me even if you work 20 hours a week which is the maximum you can work as a student...you still can't do more than manage to pay your rent and barely survive. If you are on th MBA program then forget it. Canada is looking for talents and not C grade students. They now look at your transcript when you apply for post graduate work permit or apply for PR. Don't think you can wing it...you need time to study.

BC is the most beautiful; place I have ever been in my life...trust me I have travelled to 16 countries including 20 states in the US and most of Europe. BC is wild beauty and you wonder what tourism potentials we really have in Naija. When you come here you will fall in love with nature. They also don't have good food. There is nothing like Canadian food. It doesn't exist. Their food no sweet...simple and short (I am a foodie and chef so I authoritatively tell you). Nigerians here are the worst people I have ever met. When they get here they see you and ignore or avoid you. I understand why the ladies will do that...you no bi oyibo and you no fit give them paper. But for guys...thats silly. Some of them try to speak with oyibo accent. For God's sake I had this accent since I was a child so stop it...it doesn't fit you...lol

I wish everyone applying for visa good luck. If you are coming to Vancouver Island University please let me know if you need any information or help. I can point you towards things like accommodation etc.; ask God to let his Will be done. I am not sure I will have the time to help review applications because I have exams starting next week till second week in December. Afterwards I will have all the time in the world.

Cheers

Congrats, please what do you mean by you didn't submit up to 4 months statements and made bulk payment.

Sorry I haven't managed to check Nairaland for a while...its been tough. I didn't have up to 4 months statement so I gave them what I had. I transferred money from my company account to my personal account. even though the company was mine, I didn't provide any statement or documents for the company and didn't mention it in my LOE.

i think my mistake was not realising the level of desperation of people here to leave nigeria.
I know many succesful nigerians who left abroad and came back to nigeria and made it.
1. Roban stores ceo
2. Davido
3. Bank w
4 dangote
5 adenuga
6. Tboss
And a million more nigerian celebs and biz men.
My intention is to put something together in nigeria and come back asap. If u are doing well in nigeria, u can travel the world as u please.
I repeat my advice to that person...nobody knows u and Canada better than ur sis...listen to her

You are not as intelligent as you think. These comments show your level of ignorance and insensitivity to other peoples feelings. How will you not be finding things hard when you write things like this? You couldn't have been good student. So you think people who leave Nigeria to change environment or study because they are desperate or do not have a comfortable life in Nigeria? I don't even know why I am responding. Get some sense!!!

Guys,

I just received the scary BVL from Nairobi this morning. Message came at 5:35am. I applied on the 28th of May, did biometrics on the 29th, received call for medical on the 23th of June, went for medical on the 3rd and was asked to take another X-ray because IOM couldn't upload mine. Took the X-ray on the 12th of July and my profile was updated to "medical passed" on the 16th of July.

Then I saw this email and logged into my account to see the correspondence letter and it was a BVL!!!!. Do you guys think I am about to get some bad news?

Guys,

I just received Approval email this morning and realised my passport request actually came yesterday!!!!! Praise God people!!!!

I submitted all the other things required but I made bulk payments into my account and did not have up to four months statement.

I paid half of my fees for VIU MBA. I have a lot of work experience (since 2006) but I stated that I am currently an entrepreneur that just started my business. I have travel history to US, UK, Singapore, Thailand so I guess it helped.

IRCC/CIC just finished updating their website from 6.30am to 10.30am Nigeria time. More results are going to start coming out very soon.
Let me remind everyone that is waiting for updates in their application that our applications is been handled by different Visa Officers. My Application might be allocated to a pastor who will like to check one passage of the bible before checking one attachment in my application. Yours may be allocated to a pregnant woman/Nursing mother who might want to breastfeeds her baby before checking your attachment. These and other factors might have resulted to delay in their decision making over our applications
Anyway i am VO, i can treat one application carefully within 24hrs.
God will meet out heart desires in Jesus Christ name

This is true. I checked at 10am and it was down. Then I checked at 11am and saw my medical has been updated to passed. I did medical on the 3rd of July and IOM called me back to repeat the X-ray last week Wednesday.

Good day guys, please if I'm to travel to Canada with Lufthansa airline with lay-over in Frankfurt, Germany, do I need a transit visa?

You don't need a transit visa. I travel to the US and UK with air france, Lufthansa and KLM all the time and I never require a transit visa. Only if you plan to enter Germany for a few days that you will require a transit visa. If Canada is your final destination you will proceed to your connecting flight or wait at the departure gate for your next flight

Please, nobody has replied me yet, please I am new to this, can someone please put me through.
Thanks

For VIU, I made a wire transfer to their account. Get a domiciliary account and make a wire transfer. Their account details are on the document they gave you.

Morning Guys,

I received a request to go for medicals and I did the tests at IOM Ikeja on the 3rd of July and my profile is yet to change as at today...has anyone experienced similar situation or does anyone know what the problem might be? Could it be that IOM is yet to forward the results to CIC?
