Ongoing police investigation of
suspected kidnap kingpin,
Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, alias
Evans, has revealed that he was also
involved in crimes in South Africa, it was
gathered yesterday.
That is besides his alleged illegal procurement of a Ghanaian
passport that bears his passport photograph but a Ghanaian
name.
Police spokesman, Mr. Moshood Jimoh, told The Nation that the
investigation has also led to the arrest of more associates of
Evans who were found to be probably wealthier and living
bigger than him.
Evans is spending his second month in police custody and is
expected to be formally charged within the next one month,
Jimoh said.
He said:”You may recall that a Federal High Court granted us
a three month remand warrant for Evans. We are just into the
second month now and before the expiration of the third month,
it is expected that we should be taking him to court.
“The little time is to ensure that we conduct a thorough and
detailed investigation.
“This is somebody that committed crimes across several states
and even went outside Nigeria.
“You may recall that he illegally acquired a Ghanaian passport
with a Ghanaian name but with his passport photograph.
“He was also fingered for involvement in other crimes in South
Africa and other places. So we need a little time to properly
round things up and ensure that he is properly prosecuted
because Nigerians will not be happy if we lose such a case in
court on the basis of technical matters.”
He said relations of former victims of Evans’ are among those
being detained by the police. They are suspected of giving
information about the former kidnap victims to Evans.
He advised the public to be security conscious at all times to
avoid falling prey to kidnappers.
His words: “He (Evans) did things with lots of such people
and we have lots of suspects who had collaborated with him in
one way or the other; we even have other prime suspects apart
from those that were arrested with him and paraded.
“In the course of this investigation we have other prime suspects
including people who broke away from Evans’ gang to start
their own gang – they left Evans to go and do a similar
(kidnapping) business.
“Some of the suspects we later picked after detectives’
interactions with Evans are even living larger than Evans.
“We are going to ensure that we don’t make things public until
we gather all our evidence towards securing a conviction in
court.
“I won’t give you figures but they are many suspects; there are
a lot of accomplices, lots of former gang members and lots of
other people that have in one way or the other facilitated the
offences committed by Evans and others.
“There is a special group of criminal suspects that are referred
to as ‘catchers’; in criminal syndicates, they are the people that
identify targets and give information about innocent, law-abiding
people and more of such suspects are being rounded up.
“Part of our investigation reveals that Evans himself jogs
round the estate where he lives every morning and uses that
opportunity to assess information on those potential victims that
have what they describe as ‘kidnap value’.
“It was after his arrest that some of his surprised neighbours
realized that it was this man that used to jog around; that is
why security-consciousness necessitates that every citizen should
be alert and see things beyond their noses now.

Beggars In Nigeria Will Start Paying Tax – FG
The Nigerian government has stated that no one would be left

in the campaign to enlarge the tax revenue.
She said some beggars were earning millions and that “proceeds
from begging are taxable. You are supposed to pay taxes even i
your means of income is begging”.
Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun said this in Lagos at a
lecture at PWC’s Business School, with the theme: ‘Voluntary
Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) Interactive
Session
for Executives and Business Owners.’
She said to ascertain the income status of the companies/
individuals and their lifestyle, investigators would rely on
information derived from Bank Verification Number (BVN),
records of property ownership, records of foreign exchange
allocation, and records of company ownership from the Corporat
Affairs Commission (CAC), among others.

On Thursday, March 30, 2017, the
Nigeria Centre for Disease Control
(NCDC) confirmed the outbreak of
Cerebro Spinal Meningitis (CSM) in five
states with 282 deaths.
NAIJ.com reported that Dr Chikwe
Ihekweazu, the Chief Executive Officer
of the centre, made this known to the
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on
Thursday in Abuja.
Ihekweazu said that 1,966 suspected
cases have been recorded while 109
have been confirmed since the outbreak
of the disease in February in the
country.

What are some facts Nigerians need to

1. There are different forms of Meningitis
Meningitis can be caused by bacteria, a
virus, or even fungi on certain

Sambisa Forest on Monday.

The president made the vow when he
declared the 2017 Nigerian Army Small
Arms Championship (NASAC), opened.
Represented by the Minister of Defence,
Mansur Dan-Ali, Buhari noted that
holding the championship in the forest
was an affirmation that government
was “resolved to stamp out all activities
and operations of the Boko Haram
insurgents from our territory.”
Buhari said: “This championship is a
showcase of the clear effect and
degradation of the Boko Haram terrorist
group with the destruction of Camp
Zairo in the heart of the famous Sambisa
forest.
“I can say categorically that never again
will Boko Haram occupy any of our land.
“I want use this opportunity to
congratulate the Nigerian Army for this
achievement and reiterate at this point
by noting that it is a case of professional
training that brought the Nigerian Army
to this length.”

Buhari restated that through the
Presidential Committee on North-East
Initiative (PCNI), government would
reconstruct facilities and structures
destroyed by the terrorists so that the
people of the region could enjoy the
dividends of democracy.
Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen.
Tukur Buratai, said the championship
was held at the forest to consolidate on
the gains achieved by troops in the
North East so far.
“This championship is therefore held
here at the heart of the Sambisa forest as
part of Nigerian Army’s plans to
effectively dominate all hostile territories
in the North East”, Buratai said.
NASAC was held seven years ago at
Armed Forces Command and Staff
College, Jaji, in Kaduna state.
According to Buratai, the championship
could not be held since then due to
numerous operational engagements by
the army.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has
named the newly established Nigerian
Army shooting range at the Sambisa
forest after the late Lt.-Col. Abu Ali.
Ali, who was the commander of an

Borno east, died in a battle on Nov. 4,
2016 when Boko Haram terrorists
attempted to invade and take the town.

Examination (UTME) are going through a
hard time getting JAMB pin.

A policeman has shot and killed a 16-year-
old boy

March 23, in Okohia community in

The controversy started after Sahara Reporters reported that he did not graduate from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria as he claimed. The Senate is investigating Melaye over claims that he may have forged the certificate with which he ran for the legislative seat. 3. Sabo Garba Sabo Garba allegedly forged his certificate to enable contest in the election In 2016, documents emerged, showing that Garba, a member of the House of Representatives from Yobe state, forged his education certificate to enable him to be eligible to run for the legislative seat. This became public during a fierce legal battle with him and Ali Yakubu, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) contending for same seat. 4. The wife of a 40-year-old Adeola
Oyekun who was allegedly beat up by
some soldiers of the Nigerian army have
called for the arrest of the culprits.
Glory Fagbayide who spoke to Punch
said she wants justice for her husband
who was killed on Friday, March 24.
NAIJ.com gathered that Glory demanded
the immediate arrest of the soldiers
involved in killing her husband by the
Nigerian army.
“I want justice. The four soldiers that
beat my husband, our landlady and his
son must all end up in jail. My husband
and I just married September 2016,"
Glory said.
Oyekan, a tenant in Ogijo in Ogun state
was allegedly beat to death by some
soldiers of 174 Battalion Ikorodu.
He was said to have died from the
injuries he sustained during the
beating.

Witnesses said the victim of soldiers
assault was rushed to the Pillars
Hospital in Ogijo where he died on
arrival.
Oyekan's incident comes barley a week
after a lady was assaulted by some
soldiers of the Nigerian army in
Ikorodu area of Lagos.
Also, last month, a cripple in Onitsha
was assaulted by some soldiers on
patrol because he was wearing a
military camouflage.
