Following the ongoing debate about whether to tax the rich more in Nigeria, a bus driver in Ibadan told YeyeNews.com on Friday that he opposes the idea of placing more tax burden on the rich because he believes one day he might win a huge sum of money from playing ‘Baba Ijebu’. “I am an ardent player of Baba Ijebu lottery. You know I could win big from it and the last thing I want is for the government trying to take it”, the bus driver said.


He further added that although he knew the odds of ever coming into that kind of wealth is very slim, he had to be prepared just in case it were to happen. “People don’t experience such lucky wins in Baba Ijebu everyday. How fair is it for the FIRS to come in the moment I make it big and take some of my jackpot? It is natural that any amount I win should be mine and only mine.

A Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of a police station in Onitsha has led his men to distribute rice to residents of the station’s host community as part of the Christmas celebration. The DPO during the distribution told the recipients that the police decided to celebrate the season by giving back to the community from what has been extorted from residents since the beginning of the year.



“We are giving back to the community as part of our corporate social responsibility. From the beginning of the year we have collected so much from you by manning checkpoints on the road, collecting money for bail and other sundry levies. It has been a bountiful year. So we decided to distribute one basket of rice to each family out of what we have taken from you. We hope next year will be better”, the DPO said while addressing the people.

The government of President Muhammadu Buhari has set up a committee to assess how Nigerians will react to the president’s exit from office after his term expires in 2023. The committee which is headed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) is expected to submit its report on or before the December 31, 2021.




A source at the presidency told YeyeNews.com that President Buhari has become so obsessed about his rating amongst Nigerians to the extent that he is mortally afraid that his departure will be celebrated by Nigerians. “The president was jolted by the outcry against his government especially by the recent #Northisbleeding protest. His aides keep assuring him that he still enjoys great popularity. But those assurances strangely does not convince the president. He is afraid he might end up as one of the worst presidents this country has ever produced. The authorities of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja has decided to hire vigilantes to guard the city in the face of rising bandit attacks. An aide of the FCT minister told YeyeNews.com that the decision was taken to engage vigilantes because of the apparent failure of the security agencies to keep the city safe from the bandits and kidnappers.



“We can no longer rely on the police to effectively protect the FCT. Residents now live in fear while the security personnel only chase after young men driving flashy cars to extort them. The minister decided he can not allow this bandit siege to continue so he has contracted vigilantes from Nasarawa and some neighboring states to protect the FCT and its inhabitants”, the aide said.

A lady simply referred to as Halima was yesterday humiliated at the Jabi Lake Mall in Abuja by her friend for failing to repay a loan she took. Eyewitnesses at the scene told YeyeNews reporter that the fight between the ladies began when Halima was accosted by another lady, said to be her friend, who accused her of running away with her money. “Halima was dragged by her dress by the lady after some tense argument. They began wrestling themselves. Passersby tried to separate them with no success until the security arrived. It was a very messy affair”, an eyewitness narrated.



A source who claimed to be a mutual friend of both ladies confirmed that the issue was about the money that Halima borrowed from her friend while they were both in Kano, before Halima relocated to Abuja without repaying. “Since over a year, Halima borrowed two hundred thousand naira from her friend and ran to Abuja without repaying. Halima begged for the money promising to pay back within a week. She used the money to order for a customized vibrator. I am sure she has been using the vibrator to pleasure herself but she refused to pay back the loan. Her friend was very angry running into her in the Jabi Lake Mall buying expensive items but yet still pleading to be given more time to repay the loan. So the fight resulted from the attempt to seize the goods Halima bought”, the source told YeyeNews.com.

A pastor in Uganda, Aloysius Bugingo, rolled on the floor in excitement to celebrate an unexpectedly huge offering he recorded in his church during a Sunday service. The pastor of the House of Prayer Ministries was seen by the YeyeNews.com reporter thanking God profusely for the harvest of offerings.



“God has done a great thing for us in this thanksgiving service. Since the history of our church we have not recorded anything near this sum. The ushers should told me we have seventeen million Ugandan shillings (17,000,000 UGX)”, Pastor Bugingo declared to the wild jubilation of the congregation.



The offering has caused a big stare in Uganda since it was declared. A financial consultant told YeyeNews.com that it was high time the country’s government started taxing religious collections. “Ugandan churches seem to be in a competition for who will collect the most tithes and offerings in a single Sunday. While the productive sectors are struggling to survive, churches keep declaring humongous collections without engaging in any economic activities. They simply collect from the citizens to finance the luxurious lives of the pastors. The government must institute some regulatory framework for their activities”, the source said.

There was a mild drama at the home of a WhatsApp group admin in a Kubwa, a suburb of Abuja, as some of the members mobilized themselves, came in cars and tricycles, and on bikes to his residence to beat him up for what they described as the admin’s “daring to post Sai Baba in the group early in the morning” thereby causing them bad days.


An eyewitness told YeyeNews reporter that trouble started about 9:30am when a group of about 20 people comprising male and female forced themselves into the premises of the admin screaming his name for him to come out of his flat. “I was inside my house when I heard people shouting at the gate. When I peeped through the window, I saw a small crowd of young people forcing their way into the premises as the gateman tried to stop them. They started calling on my neighbor to come out but he was no where to be found. They said my neighbor is the admin of a WhatsApp group they all belong to and that they came to ‘treat his f–k up’ for posting ‘Sai Baba’ in the group early in the morning after numerous warnings from members for him to desist from the practice”, the eyewitness told YeyeNews.com.

The Chinese government has offered to organize a crash course on effective governance and administration for officials of the Nigerian government. According to a Chinese embassy official, President Xi Jingpin has approved the request for top Chinese experts to travel to Nigeria as resource people for the course. “President Xi is very worried about the economic retrogression that Nigeria is experiencing. Nigeria is a key ally of China and we cannot continue to watch it slide under the weight of misgovernance”, the source told YeyeNeews.com.



Another senior Chinese official confirmed that though the Nigerian government has accepted the offer of President Xi Jingpin, however, Nigerian president insists he will only attend the course if it is done in China. “The presence of President Buhari is vital as the buck stops on his table in every decision of the government. But the president said he will only attend if the training is done in China. He said he wants to show Nigerians that other countries hold him in high regard even if Nigerians don’t. Attending the course here will not prove that point. The source further revealed that the NFF had already prepared Rohr’s sack letter last week but had to quickly withdrew it after the coach made the threat. “He could have been sacked after the Cape Verde match. Orphanages in Lagos have experienced a sudden rise in their occupants since Nigerian musician Davido announced a two hundred and fifty million naira donation to all orphanages across the country. A neighbor to one of the orphanage homes in Ogba in Lagos State told YeyeNews.com reporter that they have noticed an increase in the people living in the orphanage home in the past 24 hours since Davido made the announcement.



“This orphanage home housed mostly children prior to the announcement by Davido. You can rarely see anyone more than 10 years old living there and the place was very scanty. But just go inside now the place is filled with so many people – mostly adults who are not even teenagers. The same observation has been reported by people living close to other orphanage homes in the city”, she narrated.

Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami (SAN) was glimpsed shedding tears in his office after he was told that over 9000 lawyers have signed a petition demanding the remarking of his Law School examination scripts, a source told YeyeNews.com reporter.



According to the source, it seemed the AGF cried because he believed that with the caliber of lawyers that were signatories to the petition, it would be almost impossible for the Council on Legal Education not to act on it”, the source said. The Taliban government of Afghanistan has vowed to make everything possible for Afghan citizens to mover to US and EU if the sanctions imposed on the country are not lifted soon enough. The Taliban leadership made this known to the US and EU in an open letter addressed to Washington and Brussels respectively.



“The Taliban informed Washington and Brussels that it has the capacity to destabilize their countries by releasing its entire population into them”, the source said. “The US and EU may think they are safe because they don’t share borders with Afghanistan but they will be shocked how quickly the large population of Afghan economic refugees would besiege their borders once the Taliban blows the whistle. Afghanistan is not like Iran that has chosen to bear their suffering under heavy sanctions with equanimity”.
