This is harsh, what do you expect them to do?

They should demand for more accountability from their leaders now. How can their state be in that kind of mess despite collecting 13% Derivation as an oil producing state and they are okay with that?

I don't just understand this state honestly..It's just 8 LGA here ooo to make things worse with even a former president who was still part of the state SEC..

The under development here is scary..

I think the people of the state are just too docile; they just accept every nonsense their governors have been doing. And funny enough, if they had not carved them out of Rivers state, they would've been crying marginalization today o.

Na now you just dey talk. I know bulk of the problems we are facing in this country is from the FG but the governors themselves have not cover themselves in any glory. These people are worse off than the president himself.

It's actually a shame because most governors are highly educated people ranging from PhD holders, trained professionals like doctors, engineers, business managers, ex-bankers, professors, etc.

Have been in Yenagoa for three days now and haven't seen nepa light, thought it was just something that coincided with my arrival only to discover this morning that the entire state hasn't had light for three whole months..

Things dey happen for this country abeg..

This country's problem just defies logic.

A small state like Bayelsa with so much water bodies can easily generate electricity through investment in hydropower plants. Instead everybody just mount on top national grid.

When I was in the north, I kept asking why can't northern governors invest in solar energy on a large scale considering the kind of sun that shines in that part of the country? By 7-7.30 pm u will see the sun still in the sky.

As much as FG's ministry of power has its own fault, some of these governors of states need to start doing something at their own respective state levels if the country will ever develop beyond the level it is currently

Why is GTB and zenith having issues

I donā€™t how true it is , but someone told me the reason why GTB is having the most issues with this upgrade is because they were using a customized app/platform . Now that they need to move to another platform itā€™s a big problem for them unlike those who were using a general app/platform.

I am not a tech guy so I donā€™t really understand much of what the guy said. But he said other banks will not face as much issue as GTB when they are moving to new platform

E get one man for here. If you see the way he is so bitter about stocks especially Naija stocks.

He will be like "I don't usually buy stocks but this man(their church pastor who used to work in a Bank in Nigeria before relocating) convinced them to invest that it was a great deal. He probably called the senior men for church that time and convinced them to invest in some Naija stocks. This man wey I dey talk said he dropped almost $50K into the Naija stock market

Today everything don vaporize, He no dey go the church again after he fought the Pastor because of it and he is still bitter to the Pastor who sold it to him

He will say, The only thing I owe Nigeria is the house I built for my mother. After that nothing else

I told him Egbon na so e happen to everyone of us. Naija stock market almost got me stranded here. When I travelled I had money in the NSE and was thinking I will be trading it growing it. By 2008 there was a time stock market trading in NSE was suspended for about 8months, by the time they reopened in 2009, almost all the stocks had crashed as everyone was in a race to get out

My friend and stockbroker and I introduced him to other friends, Ended his career as a stockbroker because of the curses people he helped buy stocks were using to chase him, some even used threats of physical violence and jazz, He relocated back to Ibadan to face farming as many people didnt want to hear say na market crash, it was simply him they pointed at like he was the one who chopped their money

Him sef he lost a lot including his close family, brother inlaw who he invested for, His parents pension.

To enter Lagos now, Maybe he go wear mask or disguise

If I was that Egbon, I would be mad too ! $50k is not small money in naija currency at any point in time. If he wasnā€™t in America he wouldā€™ve died of stroke in naija losing that amount of money to stock market .

As regards the stockbroker guy, I think almost all stockbrokers are still dealing with the aftermath of the great economic depression. Till my old manā€™s last breath , he still talks about millions he lost due to his stock broker not selling when he ought to during that economic depression . He said the guy is nowhere to be found . Iā€™m sure that guy too would have several people looking for him.

This Nigeria ehnā€¦. Itā€™s best u just learn from the experience of others . I avoid investment in Nigerian stock like plague considering inflation rate , Nigerian factor, weak corporate governance and historical events

In addition to this, many of the company shares that they were selling those days. I no even know if those companies exist now. Especially during the Soludo consolidation of 2003-2005, many banks went to the market to raise capital. Some of those banks are not even in existence anymore
Sometimes when I ask what of this bank, it's gone, that bank it's now part of this and that.

First Aluminum, Daar communication, Intercontinental bank, some of those companies have gone under with investor money

My old man bought Daar communications shares when it was listed on NSE. Few years down the line , he always cussed Dokpesi under his breath for running them shareholders streets .

You see that ur first paragraph ehn, same thing will happen to banks with this upcoming consolidation exercise . Almost all the banks sold shares and people were being sweet talk to part with their hard earned money to ā€œbuy a part of the bank ā€œ by virtue of buying their shares .

All the banks are in a race to meet up with the new capital requirements as released by CBN but we all know that not all the banks will survive the consolidation exercise . Some of these banks that raised funds will die natural death in the coming years while some will be acquired by bigger banks .

It has happened before . The banks who die natural death like Heritage bank did recently , their shareholders will get nothing for their troubles while those who will get acquired; some of the shares value will drop . Some people who have 10,000 units of shares will see it drop to 4,500 right before their eyes .

Iā€™ve seen all sorts of magic with Nigerian owned businesses listed on NSE. We pay lip service to corporate governance in this country yet shareholders keep losing their fortune through holding shares in badly managed companies

You are even talking about all things being equal but you know in Nigeria you have to factor in inflation and devaluation. For example my Pension when I was leaving Nigeria was around 1.3m at a time when Naira was around N120 to a $. When I first reach US and things were tough. I thought about taking an early withdrawal but the Devil spoke to me and convinced me that my 1.3m might become something Yuuugee in future. I endured Sapa and kept the money there. The last time I checked my account is was around 2M and that time Naira was already like 350

Now Naira is like 1600. I don even forget my password or login and I don dash whoever the money manager is the entire money

If no be for Devil I for don liquidate that thing before the thing pafuka

You have successfully contributed to the betterment of the country by leaving the pension fund for us. Iā€™m sure Buhari wouldā€™ve borrowed it in his first term grin

But on a serious note, I always wonder what will happen to all the pension funds in the RSA accounts of thousands of Nigerians who have japa and didnā€™t look back.

For example my former colleague ; his parents have 3 kids . His two brothers japa before him leaving their pension funds behind . My former colleague japa with his wife who worked in an oil company and both of them also left their pension funds behind in their RSA account cos they obviously canā€™t access it yet in their 30ā€™s.

Iā€™m sure they donā€™t even care about the pensions now sef, but how can government or PFA hold on to the funds just like that ?

If you invest 1000 in 2022 and you have 3000 today, Do you think its worth it?

Personally I think investing in Nigerian company stocks is a loss making venture . Even when the economy was still better , I see buying Nigerian stock as you just giving them your funds to run their business while their management team do as they like with your money .

Iā€™ve seen management team of big PLCā€™s live the best lives , ride the best cars , go on all expenses paid ā€œbusiness tripsā€ all over the world , pay themselves the best salaries and then pay paltry dividends to the so called ā€œshareholdersā€ who are supposed to be the owners of the business .

I see this through the lens of my old man who is a very strong believer in investing in shares . Iā€™ve been to enough AGMā€™s to see that the so called management team of these PLCā€™s donā€™t really regard the opinion of the shareholders like that sef. All these was when the economy was in better shape and these companies were making profit.

The companies in the attached are companies that always keep my old man glued to business news on TV while we were growing up . He keeps monitoring their performance in the stock market through business and will be muttering to himself words like ā€œ If I see small money now I will buy more Nigerian Breweries stock ā€¦.. I should buy Nestle stock by next year Insha Allah ā€œ ā€¦etc

Now those companies made losses in 2023 and Iā€™m not even sure they wonā€™t do the same for 2024 . Imagine what the fate of shareholders who are hoping for dividend and share bonus will be like . Shebi it is even when they make profit they will declare dividend for shareholders .

While GTB was selling shares few months back , one of their relationship managers who came to our office was trying to preach to me about what they are selling. grin . I just told her to save her breath and go hustle another person cos I will rather eat my money than give them to run their business in the name of ā€œinvesting ā€œ . Till date when she comes around , she still looks at me with one kind evil eye šŸ˜ˆ

For Okpa mind, BRICS members will permanently break away from the West and form their own independent power bloc, which is Putin's intention but he just received an L. Below is a statement by India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

ā€œWe must be careful to ensure that this organization does not acquire the image of one that is trying to replace global institutions,ā€ Modi said at closed plenary session of the Brics leadersā€™ summit in Kazan, Russia on Wednesday. The group should work to reform institutions like the United Nations Security Council and multilateral lenders, he said.

Countries like India, Brazil, Ethiopia understand they absolutely cannot risk a fallout with the West, consequently, they are going to play both sides. Infact, they would not even hinge their foreign and economic policies on BRICS. There is a reason Nigeria has remained mute about this BRICS because Nigeria's foreign policy is very clear. Nigeria is aiming for one of the two soon to available permanent UN Security Council Seats.

If we follow that logic, we can as well say that Saudi Arabia want to Islamise Nigeria because we have Arabic language on the naira currency.
BRICS did their home work, Hausa language is one of the largest spoken indigenous language in Nigeria/West Africa. There's no cause for alarm. I remember when we did GS in 100L in Unizik, you have students from the SE born in Jos, Abuja, Niger, Lagos failing Igbo language. Dem no fit dey speak their language.

Below is the explanation on the "Arabic" inscription on the naira notes. It has nothing to do With Saudi Arabia

The apex bank said, ā€œThe naira notes retained the inscriptions with Ajami since 1973 when the name of the Nigerian currency was changed to naira from pounds.

ā€œThe Ajami was inscribed on the countryā€™s currency by the colonialists to aid those without Western education in certain parts of the country, who, back then, constituted a larger part of the populace.

ā€œThe Ajami is not a symbol or mark of Islam but an inscription to aid the populace uneducated in Western education in ease of trade.ā€

It is actually foolishness on the part of the people behind the BRICS currency to choose one language in a multi ethnic country like Nigeria that is divided along several tribal/ethnic lines.

From the reactions since yesterday one can see it is counterproductive.Several southerners will kick and their anger is justified considering the history of the country

more so when they identify with russia because they are daft enough to think that the same russia that put down the muslim chechens, the same russia that backed the serbs who killed muslims in bosnia, same russia backing the genocide in sudan is on their side.

brics has russia, china and india who deal with muslims on the regular but they are looking at the west

It will be interesting to see how Tinubu will navigate these murky waters. If word on the streets is right, it appears as tho it was Buhari that pushed the agenda of Nigeria partnering BRICS in the last days of his presidency.

Considering our various loan obligations to the west and their institutions like IMF, World Bank etc; I can't but wonder how this so called partnership will augur well for us in the nearest future.

This guy is linking the Hausa name on BRICS new currency to Russian flag waved by protesters in the North during the recent EndBadGovernance protests. He's saying it appears the Northerners are down with Russia/BRICS while Southerners are down the West/America.

I guess the BRICS people didn't do their homework well enough to really know how divided as a people we are before writing Nigeria in Hausa language on their new currency . That move alone can jeopardize whatever gain they hope to achieve with Nigeria partnering them.

Exactly. No be me Tinubu go send go village.

Besides, I no dey do my papa work. If anything happens, I have to fall back at something.

Now, if things are this bad already while I'm still working, imagine how it will be if I lose my job.

This means no matter how difficult, I have to spend carefully and plan for rainy days.

Besides, the so called contributory pension will be useless by the time you're eligible to receive it. If I have my way, I would have stopped it and collected all my money. Let me plan my pension myself.

My mums pension has just been paid since 2013 by the Ogun state government. It's slightly less than 5m.

Imagine what 5m would have done for her in 2013
.

This is one of the issues with the contributory scheme despite being better than the previous Pension system pre-2004.

If by 2013 the employee stops contributing to the scheme due to retirement and he or she is due to receive the lump sum immediately after retirement; then there should be interest on the lump sum for as long as the PFA delays in payment.

Like in ur mum's case, 2013 to 2024 is 11 good years of interest that should have accrued on the N5m lump sum. Unfortunately, that is not so. It only means the PFA or whoever warehoused the lump sum for 11 years has been doing all sorts with the money and not giving the retired employee any form of interest is just robbery.
