People in Edjeba including COE, Warri were not allowed to vote. Saharareporters, please send people to Edjeba to confirm. We were asked to go to Iyara in Warri to vote even though we registered in Edjeba and polling booths were supposed to be in Edjeba. When we got to Iyara what we saw was massive thumb printing of ballot papers by PDP thugs in presence of security forces and INEC officials. So this is the preparedness for the Delta rerun that JEGA promised us. I hope the International community is watching what Jonathan, Jega and Uduaghan are doing in rigging elections in Warri. SR, please no proper voting is going on in Warri as at 1.15 pm but ballot rigging and snatching. INEC Chairman's team says they've noticed some rowdiness but things are under control. Jega visits polling units at Okwe where accreditation had been concluded. INEC chair team said they've heard complaints of people printing fake voters card overnight and the clogging of polling booths by person with no voter's card.

Chief Edwin Clark spoke from his home saying things are going well so far in his area. He said reports from Uvwie shows that an attempt by the local government chairman to hijack ballot boxes was rebuffed.

Reports says PDP thugs are actively hijacking ballot boxes and intimidating voters and party agents in Pessu, Okere, GRA, Igbudu and Bowen wards in Warri South LGA. Security is obviously compromised in the area.

Deltans To Jonathan: We Don’t Want Uduaghan

Former Delta State Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan, who was sacked by the law court from the position two months ago, is being bluntly rejected by state voters ahead of tomorrow’s election to replace him. 

Uduaghan is the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP)  in the election and President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo on Tuesday campaigned for him in Warri, Delta State.

Nigeria’s Daily Trust newspaper is reporting however, that the crowd which gathered to listen to Jonathan’s speech, most of them rented, reacted angrily when the President urged them to vote for Uduaghan in the election.

Daily Trust reported that as soon as the president called for Uduaghan’s re-election, supporters thundered “No, No, No”.  The so-called supporters, who wore customized Jonathan-Sambo T-shirts, shouted the President down, clamouring repeatedly, “We need a change now and not Uduaghan.”

Sensing that insisting on Uduaghan’s election might rob him (Goodluck) of critical support during the coming presidential election, the President quickly dumped the former governor and began to campaign for himself.  He said he had already developed a blueprint for the development of the country and that he would like to rule Nigeria for more four years.

But close to the end of his speech, Jonathan again made a case for Uduaghan, saying the former governor’s administrative experience is needed to turn Delta around

Lagos — Disturbed by the increasing embarrassment suffered by shipping lines and their agents in Nigeria over the carriage of fairly used electronics which are now regarded as toxic and hazardous, shipping companies operating under the aegis of Shipping Association of Nigeria (SAN) have given notice that they have suspended carriage of used electronics to Nigeria.

The shipping lines have since the beginning of this year suffered indiscriminate arrests of their ships in Lagos ports following the Nigerian Environmental Standards Regulation and Enforcement Agency (NESREA's) onslaught on used electronics at the ports.

It is estimated that an average of 2,000 TEUs (Twenty Equivalent Units of containers) of used electronic items is imported into the country through the major shipping lines monthly.

The ship owners in a statement signed by its chairman, Mr. Val Osifoh, said the decision to stop the carriage of the cargoes was because of the allegations that the shipping companies were conniving with the importers of such products.

The statement said that the suspension would be effective pending when the Nigerian government would make full and official clarification on the guidelines governing the importation of second hand electronics into the country.

The statement noted that the shipping lines and SAN did not support the transportation of toxic wastes into the country and would continue to collaborate with the relevant government authorities.

"As reported in the media during recent weeks, a number of container vessels have been detained in Nigerian ports following the instructions of NESREA (National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency) for allegedly bringing toxic waste into Nigeria. Our members have viewed with great concern the detention of these vessels.

"To be clear, the vessels were being detained on the suspicion of carrying toxic waste whereas the containers in question contained various used electronic goods, including televisions and computers. The Bills of Lading information supplied by the shippers confirmed that the containers were said to contain such goods which are not included in the Nigeria Customs Service Prohibited Import List, and our members had no reason to believe that they were contravening any Nigerian law or regulations in accepting such cargo," the statement said.

The implication of the action by shipping companies, analysts say, is that anyone that wants to import fairly used electronic appliances such as television sets, radio, DVD players and I-pods even as personal effects may not be able to find a shipping line willing to carry his goods into the country.
