Why should Nigeria apply to join BRICS. Except the name is changed, it doesn't even make sense to me

Politics / Re: Wale Edun: FG To Curb Rising Inflation With ‘Cut In Money Supply’ by Buccalcavity2: 12:42pm On Aug 23, 2023
Last tenure, we had an overbearing CBN Governor poke-nosing into fiscal matters. This time Edun is the one talking about monetary matters. That's not his job! Let CBN handle money supply and sundry.
Everything he said is ok and normal inflation control mechanism. Nothing special.
He should tell us about how to ramp up fx inflows in the short term to tackle imported inflation and fx fluctuations. Low hanging fruit... Stop crude theft, improve production! This is absolutely within your control. Then Attract long term FDI and stop importing fuel. Make balance of trade +ve first. We'll get stability with that.
I disagree with concept of pumping money into one area by @vitalis. Money from where? At what cost to the giver? Sounds like palliative again. All that only create inefficiencies.

This is it!
Politics / Re: How Tinubu's Incompetence Is Costing Us $3B Plus by Buccalcavity2: 2:30pm On Aug 17, 2023
Wailers don buy market.
It's a cash advance for goods to be produced. It doesn't even matter if it is Nigerian breweries or NNPCL that did it (got usd payment in advance)
What matters is that we needed a bulk dollar flow to ease out the fx regime transitioning. The net effect is more usd chasing naira and more usd to settle dollar transactions in the short time. Not a big deal.
Problem only comes if they relax and don't use this ease period to ramp up production and seek other dollar generating transactions. Then they will have to do this again; so not sustainable... But it is innovative.
I don't know the details of the deal... But it may or may not come at an interest (discount in this case). Don't forget the counterparty may also use this transaction to hedge against crude oil price increase. So not a big deal.

What a gigantic lie at the bolded, do you know that Yoruba towns originated from sons of the same father, we know our history and origins, how can you say we never saw ourselves as one, and we have the same tradition and culture which we celebrate together, there is no king that is not related to another king either as superior or subordinates. Yoruba has been in existence long before British colonisation with all our kingdoms and civilisation of that era in place.

As for this thread, it is a fallacy to say Yorubas have anything against igbos, we are indifferent to them in every way and they are the ones reacting to whatever pain is eating them alive, they hate Yoruba with a passion and always call us out, and because we will not allow them to poo on our head they now turn back to accuse us, they view us with the same way they are without good self esteem and security, which makes them feel pained to their marrow after provoking a reply to their insults, they curse and spit and malign online exposing their weak psyche, anyway Yorubas are too secured to for that but we will not fold our hands while they beat us up.
The bolded is an historical fact! You misjudge origin for unity. I referred to unity. Origin is not disputed.
An egba won't agree with Oyo, Ife will have nothing to do with ugbo, ikale vs Ondo....Traces of these rivalry can be spotted in present-day politics and will be seen if Yoruba Nation is declared today!
As for the Igbos vs Yoruba issue. I do not have the luxury of fighting tribal war. A good student of history knows that no culture is superior to another.
We should speak to issues (which I believed I addressed in my previous comments) rather than fight the identity war (us vs them). It's below us!

Stop being parochial and sowing seeds of discord.
It's the people....esp people like you.
Are you aware that it was the advent of oyinbos that brought the word Yoruba....and Yorubas never saw one another as one (in some cases they were arch enemies) until the British came?
How come it was successful with Yorubas but you think it can't be successful with Nigeria.
We can be seperate nations within a country and still have beautiful, United country.
It happens all over the world....Canada, Australia, USA, Somalia, even Niger.
That we lost an election, civil war, become richer than others... are not enough reason to lose sense of nationhood.
Sit down, plan, restrategize, integrate to achieve your goals within the union.
Some of us have no choice though. When you are Yoruba and have 1st cousins, wife, sisters inlaw, nephews and nieces who are Igbos.. you know that this enmity is imaginary.
It's my 1st time of commenting on a tribal thread.

How many times has the military taken over in Niger? More than 4x. How has Niger fared better?
You see you can only decieve the uneducated and naive. Military is no good. We've experienced them in Naija and we don't want!
The structural problem making politicians misbehave also makes Soldiers misbehave. Democracy is better, we have a say!

Anybody that doubts Nigeria's capacity to check coup in Niger doesn't know Nigeria so well.
The only reason I'm against aggression is that this is a proxy war. What is in it for Naija? Nothing! Russia and the west can kill one another over expansionist agenda,no bring my country into it.
Except FGN has negotiated something for Naija in all these.

okuta007:

that was what we said in Nigeria before Abacha took over on November 17, 1993

that coup can no longer happen after IBB handed over to the Interim National Government

take some time to listen or watch IBB interviews and pay attention to his responses whenever he is asked why and how he came to power and how he was able to rule Nigeria for 8 years - you will realize that successful coups are products of total frustration of the citizens because the former government has alienated the people so badly that ones a coup happens 80% of the people will support and celebrate it

No coup is successful if the people are in love with their government or see hope in the leadership of the country

with all this rubbish of February 25 election turning off IREV server and manipulation at collation centers - and fraudulently announcing a winner when everyone is asleep - are things that can create coup sentiments

However it’s not sufficient grounds but once the Judiciary fails to deliver good judgement and the people are totally overwhelmed and angry at the verdict- a coup detat at that point will most probably gain massive support of the people who will welcome it as better alternative than the electoral fraud imposed on the people

And listen - the moment you hear martial music on radio, and soldiers take position across the country - everyone will fall into line

even some of your useless traditional rulers who can not speak the truth at these times when Nigeria is going through hell will be the first to pay solidarity visits to the new coup leader and Head of State

Your Pastors and Imams will line up to be received by the leader of the junta

they will preach about it in church and talk about it in the mosque how God and Allah has restored hope and deliverance to the people

Lawyers like Festus Keyamo will be appointed AG attorney General and they will insult Judges openly and desecrate the very courts they swore to respect and honor

Many a respectable Nigerian you think are very principled democrats will accept ministerial appointments and engage in the propaganda blitz to seek legitimacy for the new regime ( Obafemi Awolowo, Anthony Enahoro and Shehu Shagari served as Ministers under Gen Yakubu Gowon - — Ebenezer Babatope, Lateef Jakande and even Baba Gana Kingibe comes to mind who took ministerial appointments under Gen Abacha in the aftermath of June 12)

Sooner or later - western powers will stop their initial gra gra of denouncing the coup and start pallyinf the junta once they notice the junta has restored stability and then they will start seeking their own selfish interest of continued exploitation through the new henchmen in power

Then you will realize you are on your own - nobody actually cares about wether it’s democracy or military government as long as the interest of regional and global top players are served.

you be small pikin - i lived through. it as an adult and i know the heavens will not fall

sadly …
Methuselah! Fingers crossed.
All I see is post election loss trauma. Keep dreaming.

IGR tells you the size of your GDP
IGR tells us how much income a government can extract from its GDP. It's not the GDP or its size.
It is an index of the performance of a government as it doesn't arrive by happenstance.
It can also be a predictor of the future GDP of an economy as it's the warchest to drive an economy.
Anybody that undermines IGR, undermines the future if it's economy/development.

If he supported AA, AA will still punish him after election
If he isolated himself, any winner will still deal with him
He had to choose a side and he made the pragmatic choice. And galvanized a little support.
