FG to sponsor 100 first class graduates abroad

MINISTER of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has said the Federal Government is set to sponsor 100 first class graduates for further studies abroad.
He spoke on Sunday in Kano during a media interaction and an awards ceremony.
Shekarau said the100 first class materials would be sponsored under the Special Presidential Scholarship Programme.

According to him, President Goodluck Jonathan has instructed the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) to select the best graduates and secure admissions for them to study up to doctorate level in universities abroad.
“President Jonathan instructed that best students should be screened all over the country irrespective of their locations for scholarships outside the country,” he said.

Shekarau said the first batch had been screened and would soon leave the country to study in the best 25 universities in the world.
The minister said as part of the government’s effort to provide Nigerians qualitative education some university lecturers had been sponsored for various training locally and abroad.
“The lecturers will study both within and outside Nigeria under the Tertiary Educational Trust Fund (TETFund).

Religion / Can I Dance Shoki In Church? by Bvsteph: 4:19pm On Oct 12, 2014
After the ark was brought back to Jerusalem in 2 Samuel 6, the bible says in Vs 14b that "... David was dancing before the Lord with all his might" he danced so much that in Vs 20b one of his wives, Michal started feeling ashamed, when she saw him she said, "...How dignified Israel's king was today! He was exposing himself before the eyes of the slave girls of his palace staff-like a mindless fool might expose himself!"

And David replied her in Vs 22a saying for God's sake, " I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes."

Somewhere at the back of my head, i was wondering just how David was dancing. What dance steps did he employ? Was he dancing Makossa? or Skelewu? Azonto? Did he twerk a little?

I have a couple of friends, who feel some of these dance steps should never be brought into the house of God, like it's an abomination, While others feel no dance step can be created without God per say. So long as you are praising God, pls feel free to dance and "shake body", so far all is to the glory of the almighty....so what's my question exactly?

1. David danced to the extent that he was almost half naked, if he were in our time right now, would he have tried out Etighi in church? Is it right to dance Shoki, Makossa and the likes in church?

If your answer is "Yes"...why do you think so? Why do you think God would be pleased and cool with you dancing such in church? Why bring a new dance craze to His house?
Wouldn't it keep reminding people of the real purpose or where and how the dance came about?

If your answer is "No"...why? The bible tells us to glorify God in all things, so why is moving my body the way i know how to not glorifying God? So a new convert can not glorify God in the way they feel comfortable with? wouldn't that drive them from church?

What's your take on this issue guys? and personally would you rock any of these dance steps in church?
Religion / Can You Change Your Destiny? by Bvsteph: 7:46am On Oct 06, 2014
Romans 8:29-30 says,
"For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified."

Ephesians 1:5 & 11 says,
"He predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will"In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will."
Predestination is a situation whereby it has been destined before hand that a particular thing MUST happen. Infact, the more a person is trying to run away from what has been predestined, the closer the person gets to fulfilling it."

My Questions are,

1. Is Predestination biblical? Does God actually predestines for stuff to happen to people?

2. Saw this question somewhere: "What is the point of living if a person like me is predestined to go to hell?"...how does one answer that?

3. Do we truly have free will to choose/ freedom to make our choices and our path in life or in reality we are all just walking on paths that has been predestined?

Really looking forward to reading your thoughts. Thanks

:-) Thanks a lot
esere826:
Naa... its not strange. Many go through the same, that's why we tend to hold on to human intermediaries

As long as God exists and is omni----''anything", then he definitely heard you.
The real question is either or both of this:
-Can or Will he do anything about your prayer?
-Will YOU receive the result of the prayer if indeed he does something about it?

God loves you, and it is only human for you to doubt.
Thomas doubted, and he did not loose anything for doubting
If you understand how the kingdom (not God per se) operates,
you'd soon discover that there is enough room for doubts. So many of the initial disciples had stories of doubt
However the beauty is how the Spirit will walk with you through time to overcome doubts in life's journey

That is why Jesus gave you the gift of the holy spirit
especially your speaking in tongue
If I didn't speak in tongue, with the way I think, by now,
I would have dismissed God as being none existent.

Speaking in tongue is very tangible, because you the talker know for sure that you are not making things up
and are only expressing strange words from some other being

...cheers

AlBaqir:

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
John 3:16

The above wording is definitely not God or Jesus words because of the underlined infact the whole sentence confirmed that. Rather it is words of a "third party". Whoever that might be is not of concern here.

Again as far as I know, there are no ambiguity or blasphemy in the words of Jesus recorded in the Bible though interpretations might sometimes create controversy. Likewise words of God recorded in the bible, No ambiguity! 85% of Bible wording (other than God's and Jesus) are wording of historian, eye-witnesses, ear-witnesses, etc.

Religion / How Do You Pray...when You Can't Pray? by Bvsteph: 2:10pm On Sep 28, 2014
The next couple of lines may be weird and strange to you. You may even wonder how someone can ask for help in such a simple matter as praying. I wonder too, but then, that's the situation i have find myself in. It would be safe to say i have been going through this for a while now..for years now. I'm not even sure where to begin explaining the issue..bottom line is, How do people pray and just believe like that? It may sound quite easy to you, but for me it's like a task, a big task.

Prayer is communicating with God, pouring your heart to Him, having a conversation with Him. But in my head, i have this whole idea of how prayer should really be like, and if i miss one step i feel like i have missed the whole prayer thing...i'm sure i am making sense right now, wish i could truly communicate what i feel.
Whenever i seem to pray, i spend like 30 minutes after the prayer, asking myself how i'm certain God just heard what i said few minutes ago, then in the end i just stop believing that i prayed in the first place. I know without faith it's impossible to please God,(Hebrews 11: 6) but how do you even pray to have that faith when you can't pray? For every time i want to pray, i have a whole long period of battle in my head about if God heard me, maybe i didn't request for that thing right or i didn't look at this issue in the right angle and so many other thoughts. I literally get tired of the thoughts weighing me down and i just conclude that because i didn't pray right, then God probably never heard me...maybe my issue isn't prayer..maybe it's faith...i don't know :-(

When i was much younger (i have had this issue for a very long time) i told someone, and he said when i finish praying and face battles in my head, then God has probably heard my prayers, that is why the battles are there. That helped for a while, but it was only a matter of time before i went back to square one. I know the solution may be that i have to renew my mind..but how do i do that? Pray that God helps me renew it?....But then again i can't pray

So many plenty talks, let's just get the questions out,
1. How do you pray and believe? What makes you so sure that God has heard your prayers?

2. After praying and you ask yourself if God just heard your prayers....does this mean you have doubted and if God did your prayer before then he would not answer them because you just doubted?

3. How do you believe or trust that He has heard you? How do you trust something you can't see or hold or feel? How do you trust the unseen?
Islam for Muslims / Re: Will Muslims Go To Heaven? by Bvsteph: 11:17am On Sep 25, 2014
The bible did....what's your own standard?
maclatunji: ^LOL @ John 3:16

OP, you are thinking a little bit more than the average Christian. What you need to ask yourself is who made being a Christian the standard for making paradise which you call "heaven" and what authority do they have to make such an assertion?
Islam for Muslims / Will Muslims Go To Heaven? by Bvsteph: 7:37pm On Sep 21, 2014
No matter how much we want to shove Muslims under the carpet, the truth is that they originated from Ishmael, who was born of Abraham's union with Sarah's maid, Hagar. When Sarah started acting up, Abraham had to send her away in Genesis 21: 9-14. However an angel of God met with Hagar and Genesis 21: 18 says " Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation.”
History has it that the Islamic sect arose from this people. My question now is, God was very much involved in the life of Ishmael, would it therefore be safe to say the Muslims would also make heaven too? Or they are just part of God's big plan and they would all perish afterward?

I really pray we would be able to trash this out and get sincere and matured answers. Thanks guys.
Religion / What Would You Say If An Unbeliever Asks You This... by Bvsteph: 3:57pm On Sep 14, 2014
Imagine an unbeliever who is striving to believe walks up to you and ask you this:

Hey, i need you to clarify something for me. You call God God and Jesus the Son of God....but how do you really know for sure that God is God? That the bible is true? That we are just not being lied to and brain washed? How are you so certain that God is the good guy and not the bad guy? How? Pls my, friend tell me three scriptural reasons why you believe that God is God, the Creator of the universe. Tell me why you believe that we are not being lied to

How do you answer such a question?
Religion / Who Says A Man Cannot Marry More Than One Wife?! by Bvsteph: 3:05pm On Sep 07, 2014
Imagine a man is married to three wives with only one child. A while into the marriage, the man finally meets God and then gives his life to Christ and becomes a true Christian. The question now is, does he divorce his other two wives that have no kids for him, because the bible says a man should get married to just one wife?....Did the bible even say that? What passage of the bible was that said?

This issue came up last week and it had me thinking big time.

Genesis 2:24 and Ephesians 5:31, says almost the same thing. It says, "That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh." Becuase of the 'a' in the sentence, most people conclude that God said one husband must marry one wife. But i kindof doubt that, cause if you fast forward to other events that happened after the creation of man, you will find out that kings and mere men had lots and lots of wives. And as far as i know, God never condemned them for having more than one wife.

I don't know how it worked in the new testament times, but i wouldn't be surprised if the Jewish men of that time still took more that one wife. Another bible passage that is used to defend the fact that a man should marry one wife is I Timothy 3: 12. The passage says that for a man to be a deacon, he must be the husband of one wife. I guess so that they can be able to do their work well. Meaning there is the option of being married to more than one wife....right?

Also in Matthew 22:30 Jesus said that at the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. Meaning that who you are married to right now, would not matter in heaven because there is no marriage in heaven...I may be totally wrong though, so i stand to be corrected

My question now is

1. Did the bible categorically state that a man MUST marry only one wife? If so, where exactly was that instructed?

2. In the scenario above, if the bible did state that a man must marry one wife, in other not to offend God, what should the man do? Let go of the other two wives?
Religion / Re: I'm Jealous! So What?? by Bvsteph: 5:55pm On Sep 04, 2014
Make sense
babystathopoulos:
What's there to learn na.. Those are church goers not Christians

@topic the jealousy used to describe God is different from the context of human jealousy. @op stop getting it twisted to suit your desire. Yes, we all need to be like God, but there are so many aspect God wants us to be like him and the one which sums it up is LOVE.
God is describe jealous because He loves us, He doesn't want us to worship idols that brings nothing but condemnation.

The question you need to ask yourself as a human, when you are jealous of someone or anything does it come out of love? Example your friend/bro bought a car are you jealous because you are afraid he might ve accident cos he/she is carefree OR because you feel you deserve to have the car rather(envy).

Conclusion: God wants us to live our life in the spirit and not in the flesh.
Religion / Re: I'm Jealous! So What?? by Bvsteph: 5:53pm On Sep 04, 2014
Confess your love nature? Don't grab
Emblj: Exodus 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

When you read the bible out of context, you end up somersaulting the scripture. Godbbeoping a jealous God means HE shares HIS glory with no one or thing. With our new recreated human spirit, we are love beings having the nature of God which is love. Hence, jealously is not in our nature. However, if one is tempted with jealousy, you better rebuke it and confess your love nature immediately.
God's holiness is not deniable and HIS faithfulness is not negotiable.
Religion / Re: I'm Jealous! So What?? by Bvsteph: 5:51pm On Sep 04, 2014
Very well answered. Thanks!
noholdsbarred: Christians are not robots programmed to act in a particular way. They are human beings making the effort to live in a particular way, which means that from time to time, they would fall. But the trick is to stand up each time the Christian falls and to continue the race. A Christian ought to guard his/her heart from jealousy which means that jealously will come at some point in time but the Christian should learn to overcome such tendencies when they come.

Religion / Re: I'm Jealous! So What?? by Bvsteph: 7:44pm On Aug 31, 2014
Makes sense
AdeniyiA: Envy and Jealousy have to be properly differentiated here.
Jealousy is often expressed concerning/towards whom you truly loves but shares his/her love with someone or something else. OR what you own nd truly love but does not appreciate your commitments attracts jealousy.
But is envy, if not contained within acceptable levels could be dangerous nd deadly. it entails wishing someone or something that belongs to another to be yours at all cost...
Religion / Re: I'm Jealous! So What?? by Bvsteph: 7:38pm On Aug 31, 2014
We are all spirit beings, created in God's own image and likeness. Infact what is unseen is more real than the physical bodies we are seeing right now. Am in no way saying am equals with God. But the bible says, "Be ye holy as I am holy" We are supposed to take God as our example and walk in his steps...that's like where am coming from
DaBullIT: Nice writeup good question but you can't compare spirit with human .

God is a spirit , Man is human , you can't compare the moral of the almighty with human morals. Most humans are jealous for stupid human emotions God does not have those selfish human feelings

Finally asking why God can be jealous and you can't implies that you and God are on the same level , equals , mates and God hates that

There's agape jealousy?....That is 'Unconditional' jealousy? Pls break it down
Jealouzzy:

it is a product of love when it is positive I.e when it seek the face and not selfish or self will, but,
it is not a product of love when it seek the downfall of another.

right

the jealous in a love affair of two kind
1. bodily jealous: I.e jealous based on lust and not love. is the type that do not want to be repaid back in the same coin he/she sold out. the man who perpetrate evil by sword will scream when he sees another person holding sword.
2. the agape jealous: jealous that is not destructive but constructive and always positive.
so by now you know the type of jealous that breaks a relationship.

Lol. ok. But it's ok to love my boyfriend so much that i get jealous if he looks at another right?
Sanchez01:
Before you turn the Scriptures upside down,I must explain some things; yes, God is jealous and His is a product of love. He wants us to serve Him and Him alone and none other. Just like we get involved with our partners and want them to love us alone. Your kind of jealous is not a product of love, it revolves around material things. You must understand the two. Material things are vain and as such, being jealous over them will only cause us to hate those who are succeeding while evil and hatred grows in our heart.

Your jealous is not for a soul, rather, for material things. And do you know what we call them? COVETOUSNESS!

#Shalom!
Religion / Re: I'm Jealous! So What?? by Bvsteph: 4:00pm On Aug 31, 2014
Ok, but we can be jealous of someone we love right? So far as it's not envy?
fatdon2: Answer: When we use the word “jealous,” we use it in a sense of being
envious of someone who has
something we do not have. This kind
of jealousy is a sin and is not
characteristic of a Christian; rather,
it shows that we are still being controlled by our own desires (1 Corinthians 3:3). Galatians 5:26 says, “Let us not become conceited,
provoking and envying each other.”
