quote:EloSela Hello Elosela , when some blacks of the Americas say they have white or other races in them its not always a claim, or an attempt to distance themselves from Africans, but its a fact that some do have another race . And it still doesn't mean they're not black and descend from Africa. Its not always about skintone either, because like you say your fully African friend was confused for a mulatto. I saw a comment by an AFrican poster at blacknet uk and he/she said something about how his skin is probably lighter than some black caribbean or like the poster wrote people from ''West india'',he/she seem to spell it that way to insult, or to make the word west indies and people seem stupid. Since the people their are black. This was from a UK study: The study reveals that more than one in four British African-Caribbeans have white male ancestry on their direct father line. Analysis showed that 27% of British African-Caribbean men have a Y chromosome (passed directly from father to son) that traces back to Europe, not Africa. The autosomal study, investigating DNA inherited from all an individual's ancestors, demonstrated that on average, more than one in seven (13%) ancestors of today's Black Britons of Caribbean descent would be of European origin. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/2757525.stm There are black people in the caribbean who have more than the UK average of 13 % european. Some test done in the caribbean place it at 21% or higher. Where are you getting your information from Anyway? If it is Blacknet UK which is run by British born Caribbean folk who have taken the pro-African stance a bit to far then you are seriously off the mark. The same 10 people have been posting on that forum for years and they certainly do not represent the whole of Black Britain. Blacknet UK is filled with many misinformed people. They have Black caribbeans, black Americans and black Africans. Was it my comment about Whoopi ‘I am part Chinese’ Goldberg that prompted your questions? lol Its seems that whoopi Golberg said something that made her look like a selfhater. I don't know what she said before and don't know if she is or is not. She took a test and she was 93% African and 7% European. The Average African American is about 20-25% european from studies. There are some blacks in the West indies and America who are 100% african, but they are the minority. And thats being honest and not selfhating or wanting to distance from Africans. I also found your comment above extremely ignorant and not to mention, worthy of a good chuckle. Not that I plan to collect any cookies on this one but nether less I still found the comment worthy of clarification. What I mean is it was'nt as large scale, conteintal Africans were not breeded to work for generations out of africa. There was colonialism but there was no transport to work on plantations. So do you really think the Colonial and Slave masters only got freaky with the slaves aboard the ships bound for the Americas in the plantations? The average Nigerian which is the largest country in africa, doesn't have one drop of slave masters blood. The ones who do are probaly in the minority. Like I said before, on a large scale, there are many Africans who don't have slave ancestors, while nearly every black in the new world has a slave ancestor and past. Just because you come across a few Africans out of hundreds of millions who tell you that they think pure Africans are not as good looking as mixed ones does that make it the sure fire gospel on all African thought? Well the same can be said about some blacks of the Americas. , # |

@EloSela,can you answer this question for me . Why does it make Africans mad when blacks in the americas say they have white or other races in them? I've notice that Africans especially those living in britain have problems with it. Where they are just getting use to seeing mixed race people and people with other bloods in them. Many of the black people in the UK who say they see themselves as AFrican don't really call themselves or see themselves as Africans back home. Infact some of them try to remove themselves from Africa more than others when theyre at home. As it goes, the arrogance that some AAs often display when it comes to dealing with Africans invited a lot of the criticism. All this, "I am an American, You Africans need to f**k off back to Africa!" e.g. Stanley Crouch and Whoopi 'I'm part Chinese' Goldberg types etc. Upon all the BS, the US Government basically disowned all those AAs caught up in Katrina by referring to them as refugees! Another Example from the ''light skin vs dark skin'' thread: Quote from: Islander on December 30, 2007, 05:57 AM ROFLNSAO, Anyway I am off to bed, PS, The day when I come here and see Igbo and Yoruba and Hausas et al unite, then I will personally embark on a campaign to "force" Caribbean people to stop "hating" on their Africaness, until such time, we ALL have a lot of "beaming picking" to do, The average Nigerian or African doesn't have a drop of ''slave masters DNA'', since there wasn't that kind of slavery in Africa. Also what about the blacks of sudan calling themselve 'Arabs',some of them look more African than some blacks in the americas. Most blacks in the americas acknowledge they are black and descend from Africa. Plus I've seen africans who say that mixed nigerians can't be compared to pure ones because mixed bloods are naturally better looking. |

And to the poster who said African Americans don't help. I hope this is not referring to my post, since I never said anything about Black Americans not helping Africans. Some white American actors help out Africans,George Clooney,Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Madonna and others when they adopt. But some Americans( black and white ) get angry at them for it. The same people who get angry at them for adopting from Africa are the first to say how bless they feel to be an American, when they hear or see a story about starvation, dieases or civil war in Africa. Yet the first thing you hear when a celebrity is adopting is ''why not adopt an American kid, there a plenty of kids in America who need parents'' . When I said scorn I was referring to the attitude of Africans being the lowest of the low. And that attitude can be found in every population since Africans are portrayed that way the majority of the time. Even those who are not living in poverty. As I said before, there are some Africans who are arrogant and act stuck up when they come to Western nation. |

My 2 cents. I have no bias since I'm not African or AA. To the original poster. Africans take alot of sh*t not only from some black Americans but everyone else. They have been dealing with what went on in New Orleans for years, but instead of people,(black Americans and other blacks included), sympthizing with them, they have been look down upon or scorned . Even those who are not living in poverty. There are also some Africans who move to the West and who achieve success at a faster rate than black Americans or West indians who look down upon black Americans and West indians. Some Africans even have Africans words to describe ''ghetto blacks''. Some have sterotypes of black Americans because of what they see in the media. |
Travel / Re: United States Of America Vs United Kingdom by Bwestind: 12:01am On Mar 29, 2008 |
I pick my home as the best. Less taxes Seriously though, Canada seems like a good country, the US doesn't have the healthcare of Canada and the UK. But the UK is expensive and you don't really get your moneys worth when it comes to buying homes, electronics etc. Also I've talk to friends and family who said they didn't feel at home in the uk,despite the fact that our country had things in common with the uk. In the US. you can become rich if you work hard unlike anywhere else. Plus there are so many stores and companies competing for your dollars that nearly everyone who has a job can afford the basics in America. Canada is similar to the U.S. but with better healthcare. |

I personally would have a hardtime living my whole life in someone else country. But I understand that everyone can't live-in their own homeland. In your own country you get less abuse, but when you visit other places people are not always nice, especially if you have a different culture or look different to the natives. People with similar cultures to the native European get treated bad. Look at the few blacks from martinique living in France, their culture is not that different from the native french but they still deal with discrimination. The small portion of whites in Maritinique and the rest of the West Indies are racist too. So imagine when they are in their own countries. |

Hi Bwestind, True, but my point was most of the people you name have family in Africa and probably can speak an African language/s. Blacks of the Americas are of African descent because we come from Africa. But to run around calling ourselves Africans is just as stupid as white canadians calling themselves Europeans. |

Lets not forget the ugly part of slavery, which we tend to brush under the carpet, some slaves were captured and sold/exchanged, BY AFRICANS. We engaged in a lesser form of slavery way before they came. None of my ancestors in the caribbean sold slaves. Does slavery in Africa last until the next generation of people? Are people in Africa breeding people to work the plantations ? |

Question What do you think about blacks who can't speak one african language or have family in africa or nigeria but call themselves Africans? |
Culture / Re: Is Abuse Part Of Our Culture by Bwestind: 6:03am On Mar 17, 2008 |
Hi there, I'm from the caribbean. I would say that not all Africans are abusive and violent, but I have never really meet a large group of contential Africans. The one Nigerian I met was reserved almost ''stuck up''. I meet one south african and she was pleasent. Most C.Africans seem to have the stuck up attitude, and it seems that some see themselves as more intelligent than non-contiental African blacks . I was on a UK black forum and most of the members there thought of themselves as ''Africans'',even if their family is originally from the caribbean. It amazed me how some caribbean blacks seem to act like they are Africans when they go to Europe. Yet they don't even share the same culture or language. Sure they are of african descent but not Africans. Especially since Africa has so many different languages and cultures. |
