Pls is there a link to download the manual

19CannyMum:
Calgary, NE registries Taradale, Driver's knowledge test:

Cost was 18.10 with payment by debit card. Presented PR card, health care card and statement mailed me by my bank. Was directed to a computer, turned off my phone and put I the basket beside the computer. There were free ear plugs available.

Answered only 25 questions since I got all correctly.

After the test I submitted my Nigerian licence in application for GDL exemption. Paid 105.94 by credit card for license and exemption. A vision test was conducted. I asked to take a photo of my NG license with my phone and they also made a black and white photocopy for me. Did photo capturing and then told to check back in 3-4b weeks for status of my GDL exemption.

I read the manual cover to cover, every single word. started yesterday and finished this morning. Did 2 AMA tests in between, score 27 and 28. By the time I finished the manual, I got 30/30 in the 3rd AMA.

Basically here to share that the AMA app is very helpful and some questions came word for word. However, reading or at least skimming through the manual is still the best bet.

Also when using the AMA app if you don't know any answer just follow the link to read that section of the manual.

PART 2 of My RAMBLINGS
When we land we all want to get into our career as quickly as possible, but the reality is that for a good number of people this dream would elude them for quite some time. You should plan for how you would survive the transition period between landing and dream job. Believe it or not, many people even find it challenging to get a survival job, mostly because they do not know how to go about it. In my experience getting a survival job early on allows you to preserve your POF and invest it into more profitable things like career advancement, education or property. While you're on it, you could learn about canadian workplace culture, improve your communication skills and confidence, and possibly make some networks. Sure you could learn those on a dream job but the peculiarity is that a survival job lets you learn all these when the stakes are lower and allows you to mess up without the consequences being dire. I would share my experience so far, I am on my third survival job now and have worked both fulltime and part time positions.

What is a survival job? I think a survival job is one that requires low level/general skills and atimes physical dexterity, with just a means of income rather than passion/career as the motive for taking up such a job. So if you take up a job solely to pay bills while trying to find something better, then it may be your survival job while it is a career to others. There is nothing wrong in turning a survival job into a career especially if there is room for progression, some survival jobs pay well too.

The easiest survival job to get is warehouse job, but they could be quite tedious. There are several entry level roles in-demand here, I would just touch on a few to let you know what it involves.
Forklift drivers or Operators Industry pay ranges from $16/hr - $25/hr depending on experience, equipment and employer. Forklift drivers often need to be licensed before applying, in my case I hadn't any license or forklift experience. I was given a 3hours crash course training and had to pass a drive test immediately. Wage was $15.75/hr but since I was working nightshifts I was paid an extra $1, then an extra $3 i think for working a contract/backend position. That brought my total pay to $19/hr for 40hrs per week. I also worked an average of 20hrs overtime hours per week and as such got paid $28/hr for those hours. The nature of the job varies depending on the exact type of forklift you have to drive and the warehouse setting. There seems to be always forklift jobs, but if you are spending money on getting your license, I would say try to make sure its a type of forklift that is indemand and that you have the aptitude for.

Material handler is just a fancy word for something similar to wheelbarrow pusher lol. Though the work environment is much nicer than some so-called white collar jobs in naija. I worked as a material handler for 6weeks or so at The Bricks. I had to lift heavy items like Sofas, Washing machines, 8ft tall Refrigerators etc I'd place them on a 2 wheel dolley and cart it away to a loading cage. On most days I doubled as a loader: loading trailers for outbound shipment. Material handlers can earn from $14 to $20 depending on the employer and the needs/risks of the job. In my case I was paid about $14.45/hr, I could have earned $15.75 if I switched to a loader fully but mehn since I knew I was not going to stay for long I didnt bother to officially switch my roles, so I technically did more work for less money.

Shipping/Receiving Associate: this is almost same as a loader

Packagers box or packs items. it is a job that involves lots of repetitive actions and you often need to do it while standing and at a fast pace. Some warehouses are quite relaxed and may allow you even sit while doing this, but most wouldnt and the targets could be insane. But at least it doesn't involve lifting heavy items.

Other Survival Jobs
Call Centre and Customer Service Reps: Pay is usually minimum wage $14. Call centres could be inbound, outbound or both. Inbound call centre is a chill job, if you are a courteous person it would be as simple as being paid for being you. You just sit beside a phone and a computer, take calls and assist customers with their needs. You don't need to fake an oyibo accent. A couple of callers have complimented my accent and gone on to tell me about themselves. Unfortunately, I do more of outbound calls, lord I hate the days I am on outbound. Time is painfully slow on those days. Outbound calls involves calling and lightly persuading people to buy lottery tickets. its basically unsolicited calls to old customers. More often than not, you get the sense that you are a bother, on the not so bad days you could get the "Bleep you!". On the really bad days, you get a very polite please take my number of your list because my husband whom you intend to speak with just passed away. Atimes people would tell you they can not purchase tickets because they just lost their jobs, this is especially the case when the calls are to people in Alberta and they go on to indulge you in the difficulties they are experiencing. So, it can be a lot to contend with.

Personal Support Worker/Care Giver: PSW involves caring for patients, injured, ill or needy people —this could include changing bandages, turning patients to prevent bed sores, applying medicinal lotions, helping with oral medication, and bathing patients. This job typically requires a certification and police record check.

Uber and Skip the dish: Basically you just taxi people or go pick and drop off food. Uber typically needs your car to be no more older than 7-9years(ie a minimum of a 2010 to 2012 model car) depending on the city, amongst other stringent requirements. You don't need to buy a car to do this! You could hire a car from a dealer that way the wear and tear is transferred to the dealer. from my conversations with people who drive uber and skip the dish, it seems the secret to a profitable Uber driving is making sure your car has a good fuel economy, and most importantly location! Driving Uber in Toronto is far more profitable than driving in somewhere like Barrie. One thing though is that you greatly increase the probability of being in an accident because you are on the road for more hours and under the pressure of meeting schedule.

Bar tenders, servers and waiters: They often pay minimum wage or even less but it could be very lucrative if you are working at a club/hotel especially in downtown Toronto, this is because there is a culture of tipping here. In the end if you are lucky, you could make as much as extra $10 -$15 per hour in tips, over here the law says the employees get to keep 100% of whatever is tipped.

Cashier: you already know what this entails, main skill required is knowledge of POS CASH REGISTER, CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS AND ADMIN. Typical workplace would be fast food and retail stores

Security guard: Job roles under this includes: Security guard, Concierge, Bodyguard, Bouncer, and loss prevention employee. Requirements is typically a security license, cpr and first aid. If you go on to get a weapon's license, you could become a private investigator

Truck driving: pardon me, na crase dey worry me... this one no follow for survival job, na career wey they make way more than many white collar jobs and it takes a great deal of time and training to get a truck driving license.

Factors to consider when picking a survival job:
Flexibility: Some jobs are pretty rigid, you could get fired for being absent/late a few times despite the fact that you wouldn't be paid for those times. When you are still trying to settle and scouting for a better job, the best survival job would be the one that lets you still work on finding your dream job. This may include giving you the convenience to study or attend interviews. I noticed during the time I was working warehouse jobs I had no time for anything else. When I return home, I am too tired to do anything other than sleep and I would wake up with body pain.

Relevance to your Career: basically, the more closely related your survival job is to your field, the better. You could also try to pick a survival job that equips you with skills you may not have the opportunity to develop in your field but would need all the same. In my case, my engineering career has been overly focused on technical skills but my call centre experience has helped me horne a lil people skills( at least I am quite good at faking a smile, a polite and warm voice tone now ) that could even help me in my engineering career esp when it comes to liasing with clients, so yeah think of transferable soft skills. . .

Reliable work hours: When picking a survival job, be careful to go for one that gives you reliable hours. Some employers would send you home early or cancel your shift if there isnt much to do. This means you would forfeit your pay for the remaining hours. E.g lets say you got a job that you are scheduled to work 6 hrs per day for 5days a week... In the end you could get sent home after 3hrs of work in each of the 4days and have the fifth day shift cancelled. Meaning instead of getting paid for 30hrs of work, you would only get paid for 12hours! This makes your income very unreliable as you would have difficulty predicting how much you would actually earn in a month. Companies like Amazon give you reliable hours of work.

Reviews: Before taking a job, always read reviews of the firm on indeed and glassdoor. These reviews could give you insight on the work culture, pay, and much more. Sometimes ex-employees who write these reviews may exaggerate the cons but its better reading what they have to say than blindly accepting an offer.

Safety/Physical requirements: Some survival jobs require physical dexterity and also put you at risk. You want to be sure you have assessed the requirements of the job and can take it.

How to get a survival job
Like all other jobs, the internet is a good place to start. One advise I would give is do not be discouraged if you do not meet the job requirements, apply all the same. Most employers are unable to fill staff for survival positions, so they may not even find a qualified person to apply and end up taking whoever applies. You could search the websites below. create two indeed accounts, one for your survival job and the other for your dream job.

www.indeed.ca
www.monster.ca
www.workopolis.com
www.craiglist.com

1. Be attentive! whenever you are out, dont just get lost marveling at beautiful buildings and taking pictures to impress people in 9ja with the illusion that you have made it. look out for signs that say "help wanted" and "we are hiring", though be careful not to fall into the hands of scammers. Also try to spot out businesses, fastfoods, retail shops and factories/warehouses around you(find out where the industrial area is). You do not always need to wait for them to list a vacancy, you could just walk in with your resume and ask if they have a job you could do. Yes! Many survival jobs are gotten this way. Inshort you could even ask your neighbours if you could mow their lawn or plough their snow if you dont find any job at all, people get paid for that.

2. Be on the look out for Job fairs. Most job fairs would be filled with openings for good jobs and survival jobs, if you dont get hired at one, you would at least be able to learn what they are looking for and how you could get in.

3. Some jobs have season, for amazon warehouse it is typically October/November, during this time they hire almost anyone they can find without even bothering to interview them.. This is because this is when business is at its peak, so do your research find out which job type is on season.

4. Make friends, join whatsapp groups and tell almost anyone you know that you are looking for a survival job., no shame, you no thief...shame no dey pay bills here. also ask people how they got the job they are doing and what it entails.

5. If you havent time to waste on all of the above, then go register with an agency. They should be able to fill you in especially if you are available for fulltime positions.

Resume tips for survival jobs: Scrap out your professional experience that doesnt align with the survival job, its best you only state High School diploma if that is all they stated as requirement. This is because doing otherwise may suggest you wouldnt be with them for long. As crazy as it may sound, some companies actually want someone whose only ambition is to work in a warehouse all his/her life, you have to act like you are that person. While I was interviewing for a warehouse position, a HR person asked me what I found passionate about the job.

You just game me the words I needed before I embark on this life changing decision. After I got COPR the fear of the unknown has taken a better part of me but then I know one just needs to arrive prepared and be informed to make good choices. Getting a job in a regulated profession is tough from my little findings but then one needs to do as much research as possible for example engineers can get the C.E.T license first before PENG it’s faster and has less requirements. From what I got from my mentor Canadian employers will value your overseas experience more if you have a form of licensing and for engineers this looks like a sure way. You can even begin the process before leaving for Canada or better still get there and apply ASAP and you get the application fee waived as an immigrant.
The above is for engineers as that’s my line of work

Hope95:
Good Morning everyone and congratulations to all those receiving ITAs I believe others like me that would soon apply and join waiting would get too.

Please I am new here and read a few posts and trends and this has made me believe again that traveling through express entry is not an overnight thing, it could take time and process.

I made my decision earlier in 2018 and started my ECA wes application and went through the following timeline; It was really a frustrating one with errors on my transcript, delays by my school with authentication and verification but i kept going.

1- I created a WES account.
4/3/2018

2. I submitted application and paid
6/7/2018

3- All documents were eventually reviewed and accepted.
2/21/2019

You must have observed the long gap and that was due to the challenges highlighted above, I was luck enough not to have to send my highschool waec result because i made my application before August 2018, so when they requested for it after my school authenticated my degree transcript, I had to write them back and gracefully they complied and removed it.

Eventually on 21st of februrary last month, they said

Status: In progress

We are reviewing your evaluation report.

Status last updated: 2/21/2019

Evaluation in Progress
Your evaluation is in progress. You are not required to do anything at this time.
Your evaluation is due for completion on 3/13/2019

I saw it and very excited, almost up to a year and expecting it anytime next week.

So this morning, I decided to create my profile down, so once i get the certificate, I would input the ECA reference number I need and submit. Please what are my chances
- Less than 30 years & Single
- LSRW ; 7.5,7.5,7.5,6.0
- Bachelors Degree (International Relations)
- Work Experience ; Current (Technology Administrative Assistant with a construction company 2016 till date but was on part time during nysc in 2017)
Youth Worker Volunteer(Community Service Development) (2017 till date)
Website Designer & Digital Marketer (Contract staff- Side hustle since undergraduate days 2014)

Please what are my chances, opinions and contributions are welcomed, thank you.

with this ielts score your chances are slim you need to score a minimum of lsrw 8777 but would be better if you can max it out because the recent trend in ITA score has been high, you can also boost your score if you have a sibling in canada or write the french language proficiency test

Please house I need advise, I am post ITA uploading my docs and i just found out that d date on my referal letrer for which i have a payslip for is at variance with the payslip, my supervisor is also refusing to sign a new reference letter... is it ok if i upload my two reference letters without payslips or do i upload the payslips like dat hoping it is not figured out

Payslip is not a requirement for submission. people just add it to further prove they work and are being paid in the said company. if you have your reference in cic format, there is no need for payslips

Ramj:

Tales by Moonlight – Episode PPR – Written by Ramj

[s]In a land of myth, and a time of magic… the destiny of a great kingdom rests on the shoulders of a young boy. His name… Merlin.
[/s]

So the story began in 2013 as Masters was rounding off and RamjMrs' aunty started pressing us, what are you guys going to go and do in Naija.

You better ja yourself. Australia and Canada were ready options, then the Aussies were giving this open year permit to graduates from select countries to come and boost their economy.
Moreover 2013, the advent of Boko Haram – what?? bombing and killings like no man business in Nigeria – home was not calling at all.

But as the Word of God says there is a time for everything and a season for every purpose under the sun.

Did Ramj want to come back def not, but deep within I knew home was calling – I can’t begin to discuss this. This however I am sure home was the place to be and in the words of the US VOs - Build your home ties – God brought me home to build home ties. GBAM I bless God home ties have been built.

Life went on job to job and marriage and life was looking God. (Books can not contain this part of the story)

Fast-forward to 2017 and my colleague at work who had started the process started troubling me – You are just wasting here all manner but me I no even hear wetin im dey talk. However the seed was been planted and late 2017 I visited Nairaland and met part 3 (went back to part 1 and 2 then joined the team in good time) Nonetheless no step was taken – the prospect of been back abroad is always a tempter if you have lived abroad but I had to be sure it was the right move (I appeal to all this is a good opportunity but is it the right thing for you – you decide)

When the green light was seen immediately I created WES account for RamjMrs and Ramj- January 22nd 2018 and the rest to the Glory of God is now entering the history books

Decision to travel was January 2018 and immediately I got the go ahead WES registration straight.

IELTS
First IELTS Ramj MRs - May 12, 2018 …. Didn't go to script
8 6.5 6 8.5 (those that wrote MOD May 12 2018 can tell the story better the venue was M3 event centre Ojodu berger) Ojo buruku esu kai – help me translate
Nonetheless RamjMrs got seriously sick 2 weeks to exams was hospitalised but Glory to God
RamjMrs ECA was ready by 6th June 2018 for wife MSc Only by WES. We entered the ocean straight away irrespective of first IELTS result and sat humbly at 389 there about

Second IELTS August 18
God came throough for us August 31 (RamjMrs) 8, 9, 7, 8.5 – LRWS.
CRS would then be porudly sitting at 448 grin grin grin but I didn’t update, my monkey no fit chop banana because POF never dey kampe

My ECA was still in the pipeline but not needed (ECA released October 12, 2018)

The Gathering
Document gathering started and it was going rather seamlessly, medicals PCC later done after ITA November 9 at Q-Life. POF was the real deal – matured investment the coy no gree pay and that just changed the entire picture. Had to start super hussling but God came through yet again

POF - Got gift deed from RamjMum, invested in Tbills prepared Gift Deed in affidavit format (however I did not submit the gift deed – had it just if they asked later) Plus
Stanbic Reference letter - Money Market had some funds there got the reference seamlessly and added wifey’s PFA from ARM as well.

Surprise Draw
After October 3rd draw was 445 fear catch me na so I quickly update RamjMrs’ super-duper IELTS result … . Then unexpectedly on that Glorious Monday of 15th October there was a surprise draw and ITA landed like shines teeth.
Wanted to decline ITA as POF never gallant RamjMrs say make we keep on, we braced on the say the rest is ……..

Timeline
ITA October 15, 2018
AOR November 20, 2018
MEP/BIL Dececmber 27, 2018
Biometrics Done December 28, 2018
Raised CSE January and VO – Ottawa
RPRF ADR – February 7, 2019 paid and updated same day and then the review and finally the status was changed to Not Applicable Feb 22nd and then the excitement increased but no shows still.
However yesterday the penultimate day of the RCCG 49 days Prayer and Fasting Programme the word I got was within the next 24hours I am going to have my testimony and ohhh dear how I keyed into it and …..
5:01am February 28th 2019 PPR Email came less than 24hours after the word was spoken.
Glory to God.

This Morning
I saw the email as I woke up around 5:30 went to RamjMrs who was preparing for work around and then I held her face like a man beholding her bride after removing the veil and the words – We are gonna be Permananet Residents came out.
You know when all the while during the wait you feel when the Pret Pour Visa email comes you will shout and tear the roof of.
Hmm well I couldn’t, the email was there staring at me in the face saying I don come oya tear the roof let me see. I look at it and i just feel calm and gentle – Yes no doubt the joy is there but the feeling is just that of mixed emotions of joy,awe and the future stares at you.
You just feel grateful but gentle.

Submission sharp sharp – I had readied Passports and Passport Photograph just on Sunday like I knew it was near
Had some appointments for the day but mhen Naija would not sleep it didn’t enter VFS today. After all was done I got to VFS around past 1 pm.
Small “Sufferment”
Chaiii I suffer oo those guys told me to seat in the wrong queue despite telling them 2ce what I came in for. More than one hour sitting tensely excited to get this over with and go home yet I dey wrong queue. I just wanted to go home and take the whole thing in.
After I was moved it was all done within 45 minutes. (Guys make sure you tell them you are here for PPT)

Glory to Goddddd all submitted and now before moving to the next – I wanna celebrate this.

Thank you Jesus

Hi guys, please I want to know if 280 is okay in calculating POF conversion. Have used sites like Xe.com, Onda.com and the highest have seen is 278. Is this safe?

I think you should just add a little buffer maybe use 300. You know we just concluded election and there’s still a lot of uncertainty around it and this could affect the forex market so better be safe and add some buffer

I was never the type that wanted to relocate to Canada because I loved my job here and doing fairly ok. I was of the belief that one day naija go better I even used to discourage people that talk about relocating. I had a colleague at work and he was always reading for ielts that was as far back as 2015 and I asked him why he was studying and he said no hope for us in this country that he wants to go to Canada he even explained the process to me that we should do it together I told him forget I am not going anywhere. I even remember abusing him that he should not worry he will come later and be asking me for contracts when I become boss. Not until I had a terrible accident and almost lost my life I spent three months in the hospital with one week in ICU . It was a terrible time for me and my family cos it came unexpected. While I was in d hospital I started reminiscing what next after this then I remembered my friend that told me about Canada years ago he was already there chilling and I said chai see my life only if I listened to this guy, I decided on the spot that if God can see me through and I leave this hospital I must do this Canadian PR. As soon as I left the hospital I called him and he gave me a summary of the process then i decided to do my own research and I stumbled on this thread. Wrote my first ielts a month after I left the hospital I had not even recovered but I was desperate to leave the country so would do what it takes. I remember during the ielts exam people were just staring at me that see this sick person coming to write exams but I was determined. Result came out and I had lrws 6.5,8,7,7.5. meanwhile I started the wes process it was farely straightforward as I have a foreign degree so no stress. That ielts reslt humbled me because I have never failed an exam I was so down but my family members encouraged me and said with this your condition you still did well but I was already discouraged. I even told my wife I was no longer interested again all because I could not just come to the fact that I must re write the exams. She said nothing like that ohh she was not interested in the process initially I was the one that convinced her now I want to back out and she said not even considering money spent on wes for both of us and ielts. You know how convincing women can be but thank God I listened. I had to travel abroad for treatment so I told her when I return and in a better state of mind I will write it. A year after the first ielts I registered for the second and I booked it less than three weeks to the actual exam date lo and behold did well in the second ielts.

Created EE profile immediately I got the result and then dived straight into the pool not too long after ITA came and then we started gathering all documents.

POF : I used T-bills that covered the entire POF then added buffer with my account statement cos I did not know what exchange rate will be used. Got tbills certificate and then letter from my bank in ircc format also added six months statement of account

Work reference: also that was easy for me to get in IRCC format I included my employment letter and my boss complimentary card
I sent in my application and got AOR on 23/10/2018. I remember after I submitted I read on this thread that we had to include our ielts test result sheet but I did not. I became jittery but then I just prayed about it that God should favour me and yes He did.

The wait for mep/bil started then it came a month after aor. I could not do my biometrics on time because I had to go on a work trip and my passport was with the embassy, it was taking longer than usual, my village people wanted to show themselves this is a country that the visa does not take time but mine took unusually long. After over a month of waiting for what usually takes two weeks it finally came and went to do the biometrics the day after I got my passport back.

Then the wait began I started becoming anxious but then God just reminded me that there are people who have waited beyond the six months and nothing still, I just kept on praying but then the human factor must surely set in.

Finally on 22nd feb I saw ghost update that was on Friday evening I called my wife and told her that next week we will get this ppr and surely God did it, came on Monday 25th and ended in praise.

I want to thank people on this forum because you guys rock, words cannot be used to show my appreciation to those that started this thread.

For those already in the process I pray it ends in praise for you all and for those that are yet to start this thread should be your manual cos there in nothing about this journey that you would not find here.

Even though I am a silent follower of this thread but then I am here to offer assistance to those in need of guidance on the whole process.

Above all don’t forget God in this journey pray hard if you can fast make sure you do because God is able to do more than what we desire.

Aka2003:

@salford
I am new in Canada ( Calgary). I am an engineer with some experience. I am considering getting my PEng from APEGA but don't know how to go about it exactly. Do I go down the EIT route ( I have more than 4 years experience outside Canada in Nigeria) or can I get the PEng directly? Also in the mean time, are there any short courses that I can take to get some Canadian education that will help me to at least get into the market? Your advice is appreciated.

Please seniors help with this as I am in similar shoes only difference is I have ppr and not landed yet

NL fam, I'm not feeling well at all. Waiting is so exasperating. Been so long. I'm just tired, everything feels like it's on hold. I'm just ranting. I just want my PPR for me and hubby. And to discover our file is in Accra I feel so heavy especially tonight... Phew.

I can imagine what it’s like the wait is the most exhausting part of this journey. It will end in praise
