Can you imagine how great Nigeria will be in 5 years, IF we rid the country of deep-rooted corruption and waste from now?! Guys, this is not the time to sleep at the switch. "Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed." - MLK Jr. We have put FG on notice. Time to make similar demands of States and LGs. |

bloodless: The reason GEJ wants to "remove" subsidy is for the govt to stop paying for the fraud. . .but wanted to pass the ENTIRE fraud to the Nigerian people to pay. He has pushed almost half of the fraud to Nigerians to pay! Got it? It is a classic shell game the govt is playing. Kai! Breeze don dey blow small-small. . .fowl yansh go soon open ![]() |

Suggested title for this thread - "Nigeria Customs Exposes Govt's Subsidy Fraud" My goodness! I can't believe my eyes!!! Without creating another thread, here is more damning information from The Nation that was left out by Daily Trust: (Customs Boss) said no invoices are attached during clearance of fuel, adding that “as we speak, most of the importation of PMS has no documentation”. (Customs Boss) said as a result of the lack of documentation, the NCS (Nig Customs Service) is not in a position to give the exact number of vessels imported by the NNPC. “NNPC does not make any documentation to the Customs. Several meetings were held where the NCS was directed not to ask for documents. The Ministry of Finance wrote to NCS, warning them not to ask for documents because this will cause crisis,” (Customs Boss) said. If this was a well-run country, such a public Board would sit without financial burden on the country's resources - At the end, the only cost would be for tea, biscuits, and stationery for a 'Thank You' note at the end of their sitting. But this is Naija, so it begs the question: What is the budget for running the PIB Board? N1,000,000,000,000,000.00? ![]() |

@Op Maybe all we need is a Special Adviser for Boko Haram Activities ![]() |

jay bee: It's a good start, jay bee. Discussions like these prepare the people to stand up to the govt like they did recently. BTW, if SA Omokri is doing his job, these complaints should get to Presido. (PS: I have a feeling GEJ has abandoned his Facebook account for the sake of his sanity - See as Naijas dey yab and curse am for there!) @Op But for the recent focus on "high cost of governance" GEJ would have appointed a Coordinating Special Adviser for all Special Advisory functions ![]() |

I can't believe that 'Gold Wrist Watch Bribe' scandal is being dredged-up to discredit Kalabari-born Prof TDW in 2012. If it takes a petty thief in the person of TDW (assuming opribo & co are right) to take down the Bernie Madoff-like scams (assuming FG's claim of Cabals is right) going on with fuel subsidy, then let's grant him "full immunity" in the People's Court! Na so progressive systems dey do o, my peepu! Get over your hang-ups about our Rivers broda jor! If a man who stole $10,000 has the knowledge to help you capture the man who stole $10,000,000,000,000, I wonder what the debate is about. Na thief Oyinbo dey use to catch thief! LOL! On a lighter note: As a zoologist, GEJ's zoo is suffering from a viral outbreak of epidemic proportions. . . Who best to call than Yale & McGill trained virologist, Prof TDW? ![]() |

Cashless (or more appropriately Cashlite) Banking is being tested in Lagos already. Kicked off Jan 1. (Kai! All these Jan 1 policies sef! ![]() talknafree: Good to support it o. This is one of the proven ways to stamp out corruption and promote transparency in every country where it is implemented. Heaven almost fell when it kicked-off in Canada in the 90's, but now, Canadians use their debit cards for over 80% of purchases instead of cash. There is always confusion at the beginning sha. Softly-softly catch monkey. . . We sef go reach there! ![]() |

IMHO, protest was a BIG success because: 1) It put GEJ's govt on notice that it can no longer hide behind a finger like past corrupt and inept govts; 2) Common men and women panicked the C-in-C and his cohorts - NOI was visibly shaken in a Channels interview on Monday (Soldiers unleashed on defenseless civilians is the panick barometer); 3) It is far easier to mobilize the masses from now on, if govt walks all over them again - Trust me, GEJ will avoid a re-run of the past week at all cost; 4) A 49% increase in pump price today is a far cry from the hellish 117% hike imposed on Jan 1; 5) The masses have tasted blood; artisans, journeymen, labourers, etc are pulling out calculators to analyze Nigeria's budget and question the "high cost of governance" - That has NEVER happened in the history of Nigeria; 6) It's been irrevocably proven that the Nigeria people ruled by Tafawa Balewa, Ironsi, Gowon,, and even OBJ, are not the same Nigeria people under GEJ; we have evolved - The power of the youth (>80% of the population) combined with instant communication is massive; and 7) 1-6 above will only multiply ![]()

Katsumoto: Kai! See as Katsumoto just exposed the man! When Oyinbos see tax-free dollars (a $200K tip is enough sef in this case) - They begin to misbehave - A highly decorated and celebrated Professor forgot what he learned in kindergarten. He forgot the automated discipline, developed over 30 years, of doing his "homework"! ![]() Surely, a gift "debases the heart". |

Nchara: I have never met any Nigerian whose actions are so tribally based as you have painted here - What has Mbah's wealth got to do with the good people of Anambra, or Otedola's loot to do with the hardworking people of Akure, or MRS' largess with my Aboki brodas in Sokoto? Nor be so o. BTW, Kano NLC even defied the national body today by carrying out street protests. |
![]() |
oyb: Yes o; heard about that. And that the Channels anchor person was all flustered; fidgety, shaky voice, like a deer caught in the headlights of NOI's subsidized cars. |

This is commendable. Protests against BH should keep spreading. |

toba: Pardon my ignorance - What/Who is NOI? Could that be the initials of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala? |

US Professor regrets Backing Nigeria’s subsidy removal I regret supporting subsidy removal, says UN Adviser Some details have emerged about how the Goodluck Jonathan Presidency misled international figures and experts into endorsing its now controversial removal of subsidy on petrol which initially saw the price per liter rising to N141 with the resulting labour strike and street protests. One of such international figures is the Special Adviser to UN secretary General on MDG, Professor Jeffrey Sachs, an American professor of economics, who visited President Jonathan after the removal of fuel subsidy and was reported to have praised the decision as a good move. Sachs then commended the subsidy removal policy as “a bold and correct policy”. He described the government intervention programmes in rural development in the past 24 months as innovative. But Sachs’ position has since shifted following the outrage expressed about his comments on micro blogging site Twitter. In reaction to continuing criticisms on Sunday, he wrote on @ JeffDSachs that “I do my homework very carefully in general, for 30 years, but not on this one. A mistake I regret…I see better that I don’t know the specific details on the subsidy to be accurate. I’m listening and learning. Most important thing I could say is government must build trust with civil society based on anti-corruption, fairness, accountability.” On whether he was not told about the level of corruption in Nigeria before endorsing removal of subsidy, Sachs said “They didn’t have to tell me. I’m very heartened to see civil society rising against corruption. Yes, I walked out of a meeting and into a sound bite! Not good. The situation is complex and deep reforms are needed…I’m sorry that I’ve been misinterpreted. It’s hard to be heard accurately in this noisy world!” He assured those bombarding him with questions that he understood what they are going through in Nigeria. “I’ve noticed how the politicians barely care about the universities. Sad and costly for Nigeria!” He said. The Professor of Economics said he had no idea about the subsidy removal until it happened, as he was “not in regular contact on macro policy.” Source: http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2012/01/16/us-professor-regrets-backing-nigerias-subsidy-removal/ |

largie: Kai! Our own don nearly finish o - Dr. GEJ has become a hospice medical practitioner, applying palliation to a dying nation! Against FG's estimation, Nigeria shall rise again!!! |
![]() |
muami: You are either not paying attention or just mischevious! FG and its mouth-pieces have been saying the subsidy removal will "cure" all the ills of our society by providing (quoting Diezani Allison-Madueke now) "worldclass healthcare, worldclass education, worldclass roads and other infrastructure". "muami" = mumu Enuf said! |

ACM10: Ojigbijigbi! I go die o!!! Palliative o! |

In response to the unilateral and barbaric astronomical increase in pump price of fuel, President GEJ, Ministers, PDP chieftains and govt supporters have been repeating a word over and over again - The word is Palliative. E.g. "The government of Goodluck Jonathan has lined-up several palliatives for the Nigerian people due to the hardship that is faced by Nigerians by the new pump price of PMS" Here is the dictionary meaning of the word: Palliative n. adj. – Relieving or soothing the symptoms of a disease or disorder without effecting a cure (www.thefreedictionary.com) – Serving to palliate; relieving without curing (www.dictionary.com) Do these guys in government think at all? ![]() |

To justify N97/liter, FG & its supporters have said, “If we don’t remove fuel subsidy, Nigeria will collapse like Greece!” Really? Let’s do quick, basic but relevant comparison: 1. GDP per Capita: Greece $28,000 vs Nigeria $2,500 (1,020% worse!) 2. Unemployment: Greece 18% vs Nigeria 47% (29 basis points worse!) 3. Avg Salary/Yr: Greece $24,000 vs Nigeria $1,000 (2,300% worse!) 4. Minimum Wage/Mth: Greece $1,000 vs Nigeria $113 (785% worse!) 5. Pop Below Poverty: Greece 20% vs Nigeria 64% (44 basis points worse!) 6. Uninterrupted Power: Greece “Yes” vs Nigeria “No” (Unbearably worse!) 7. Security: Greece “Yes” vs Nigeria “No” (Fearfully worse!) 8. Quality Education: Greece “Yes” vs Nigeria “No” (Shockingly worse!) 9. Infrastructure: Greece “Yes” vs Nigeria “No” (Dauntingly worse!) (Sources: World Bank, IMF, Country Statistics) And GEJ is saying that Nigeria’s economy will collapse like Greece if he does not unleash untold hardship on the people – Headline: Nigeria’s economy collapsed decades ago, and sank to al all-time low in the last decade under PDP! Shoeless Joe is comparing us with Greece?! Mr. President, make us like Greece!!! |

Feedback from NLC's Ag General Secretary, Owei Lakemfa, about Saturday's negotiation included worry by FG's reps that reversal to N65 will be bad for President Jonathan because "we are sovereign". What?! Sovereign wetin? In his short term as President, GEJ has been building up a history of wrong, knee-jack and poor decisions, for which he has been resisted and either reversed or proven wrong. Here are just three: 1) Two-year Ban of Super Eagles from International Matches Outcome: Resisted by FIFA and Nigerians. GEJ reversed his decision, despite being “sovereign” 2) That MEND was Framed for the Oct 1, 2010 Bombing (Even After MEND Said “Na We Do Am!”) Outcome: SSS discovered that bomb was rigged in PH, uncovered MEND’s involvement, arrested Okah’s brother in Nigeria, Okah arraigned in South Africa, etc GEJ was proven wrong, despite being “sovereign”. 3) Change Presidency to One Term of 6 Years Outcome: Resisted by NASS and Nigerians. GEJ had to drop the proposal, despite being “sovereign”. The Jan 1 fuel subsidy removal is just one of those wrong, knee-jack and poor decisions of GEJ. He is being resisted as usual. Question is – Will reverse himself as he has always done? |
