In some hospitals, babies are placed in a nursery not with the mother

That practice should be discontinued. Who nursery epp? The baby needs to continue bonding with the mother.

Swallow your pride and go live with your mom.
You don't get to feel proud or feel somehow when you don't have money. It's only temporary. Hustle, get a job, save some money, and move.

It could be tough but many people would kill to be in your shoes right now, to have a room and accommodation somewhere.

I think your wife is still stuck in the past, except if she is a stone cold-hearted woman . I know that's not an excuse for her extreme behavior. You have really tried honestly. Please don't give up on her. Find someone that can talk to her. She needs something to jolt her back to present.

I truly feel sad for the girl she is maltreating. The poor child is only a victim of circumstance. She didn't ask for any of this. She is paying for mistakes of the adults around her. What a shame!

I feel sad for your children too. Growing up in a toxic environment like this. Have you stopped to consider the effect all the drama would have on them? Has your wife ever paused to think that the child she is maltreating today could maltreat her own children tomorrow? And the circle of hate and corporate bullshit goes on. Smh.

Nairaland / General / Re: How Long Should One Get Married After An Engagement. Please Help!! . by Caracta(f): 2:44am On Jan 30, 2022
Proposal or engagement? I'm confused. 7 years or just 7 months?

If you mean proposal, then I guess it could take a couple of months to get married. My sister's own was after a year. Mine was after 5 months or so. There is no rule to this thing. Only the concerned parties have to decide what they want to do.

Y'all need to start living your lives without following the expectations of other people. This shouldn't even be a public discussion.

The guy is financially comfortable. And so what? You think that's all there is to marriage. Hahaha. Funny!

The ideal practice is to never let anyone take your baby from your hospital room for whatever reason.

You can clean the baby in the mother's room! Anything that needs to be done can be taken care of in the mother's room or in the presence of another family member. Or better still, let everyone (mother and child) wear a barcode around their wrist that identifies them.

Health / Re: Someone With Type 2 Diabetes Needs Help In Ibadan by Caracta(f): 2:30am On Jan 30, 2022
Sorry I don't believe in herbal medicine that much.

However, he needs to manage his condition well and things will go well. Look into diabetic diet, his insulin is very important, and he needs to have a glucometer to frequently check his blood sugar level. I have several people living fine with diabetes. Tell him not to feel sorry for himself or be dejected. I have a 64-year-old diabetic lady as a friend. She lives alone and has no family with her. I have seen her passed out several times with no one in sight. That woman is a fighter. She has made peace with her condition and living each day, following all rules and medical advice.

Meanwhile, I also have an aunt who died from complications of diabetes. She was running from pillar to post looking for solution and ignoring her health. They even told her not to use insulin but to keep chewing moringa seeds. She ate and drank all sorts, looking for herbal cure and "other" cure. She had an injury, leg got amputated. Fast forward, she died.

Not every medical problem has a medical cure. It sucks but it is what it is. Let him accept his situation. Pay attention to his health. Follow medical advice even if he has to "eat all sorts".

Yea no doubt about it... His a kid so he may feel little uncomfortable...
Maybe the blade was too sharp..so the
shaping may create some pains for him...

Here in LA it's mostly $45 but I have a Spanish friend that helps with $35...

Anyway it's a clean cut

$35? Not bad. Thanks to YouTube. My husband has not visited a barber in 3 years. But seriously, you are lucky to find a friend at that price in LA. We visited a barber in Santa Monica and a light trim was $35. Of course, no tip!

I was only stereotyping the akata lifestyle. In Houston, there are a few barbershop that barbs for $7. I learned they are Vietnamese.

Good you figured out what works best for you.

Please what part of LA can I find the Vietnamese. I live in LA and I can't even find a $35 haircut not to talk of $10 or $7!!! Houston Chai.

I've been doing "Fades" on my husband and son's hair. I just need to find a cheap barber so I can stop stressing myself.

And they will extend it again. It should be an ongoing process. Every year, we have people turning 18 or buying new SIMs. Do they have enough centers rolling out the NIN-SIM verification? How easy is it to get the NIN number?

Education / Re: Video Of Pupils Singing National Anthem In A Flooded School In Nigeria by Caracta(f): 7:14pm On Oct 30, 2021
Why? Just why do they have to stand in the flood? Some things are totally unneccessary. My heart goes out to this children. Would heaven fall if they did not sing the national anthem that day? What's the point of the stupid "school assembly/gathering" they do at public schools everyday, with students standing under scorching sun or inhumane conditions? What benefit do they derive from this? They can sing in their classrooms for chrissakes! Foolish leaders and school board! Exposing these children to germs, diseases, and all sort, in the middle of a freaking pandemic!!!

Travel / Re: A Question For Nigerians Living In Diaspora by Caracta(f): 3:01am On Dec 14, 2020
Yeah they were quite surprised at my English too. They told me I speak with a British accent. In my mind, I was like 'who dashed me that one'. We were colonized duhhh. They are tired of my name though. They just can't seem to pronounce it well. When I go for appointments and it's my turn, they just come to me to usher me in. They would rather do that than announce my name. I don't like it that way so I try to teach them the short form if it's a place I have to go often.

Travel / Re: A Question For Nigerians Living In Diaspora by Caracta(f): 2:34am On Dec 14, 2020
Well for me, I think it depends on the scenario. By the way, I live in California.

At school (college), the people around me find it exciting especially my professors. They want to learn more about my culture. Working with patients at a clinic, my accent gives me away as a Nigerian and only one 'salty' person asked about the "Nigerian Prince". Apparently, he was scammed badly by a Nigerian and he took it out on me. He was literally screaming the place down. Long and short, we became friends.

When I worked as an elementary school teacher, I realized many of the students have different orientation about Africa. They didn't even know Nigeria per se so I was always carrying a map around to show them. I was sick of explaining that Africa was not a country with animals on the streets. A little boy even told me he heard they eat humans in Africa and he asked if I was going to eat him too.

As for my friends (non-African), oh those ones are the sweetest. They say Nigerians talk so loud you would think they were fighting. One day, I had my two small wraps of fufu and vegetable soup with assorted meat, and my friends were legit scared for me. They were like, "do you want to die? How can you eat all of that?" They think we do things at the extreme...eating, talking, dancing, playing, etc. Even our names are so long. Lol.

Overall, I've had a good time. I am a proud Nigerian...a proud African. My daughter wears ankara fabric dress to school once a week or two. I wear my culture like a hat and I am not sorry I am black!

Health / Re: NEW BORN BABIES! Are U A New Mum? Then Lets Discuss Babies Here!!!!! by Caracta(f): 10:59pm On Sep 06, 2020
@taitee, trust me. It's normal to be exhausted and stressed up with a newborn. Just take it one day at a time. It gets better. Don't be surprised if you find yourself crying sometimes. However, watch out for the signs of postpartum depression. It is real but often neglected in our part of the world. Keep holding on. You can find great resources and awesome people on Nairaland to relate with.

Congratulations.

Health / Re: ‘Wear Face-Masks To Fight The Coronavirus’ - US CDC To Americans by Caracta(f): 2:35am On Apr 06, 2020
Seun:

How about this tweet by the US Surgeon general:

WHO said people should only wear it if they are sneezing or coughing or taking care of Coronavirus patients.

No country understands this virus fully. People stay at home and the numbers still keep increasing. I live in the U.S and i have been indoors for three weeks now. I personally know of friends and colleagues that observed all the precautions and still got infected. They washed their hands, sanitized, wore masks, practiced social distancing, sprayed the air, etc. but still got infected. And i also have neighbors who have been going out daily (especially Nigerians) without extreme precautions and they are healthy. The best is just to do the best you can. Masks were initially discouraged because the front-line workers didn't have enough, but now everyone is advised to wear them.

Health / Re: Am I Suffering From Acute Memory Loss Or Forgetfulness? by Caracta(f): 5:15pm On Jul 03, 2018
AreaFada2:
Hi Caracta, how did the memory matter go? Hope it didn't get worse.

In a young person stress is a major cause. Assuming no accident/blow to the head, no high blood pressure, no alcohol abuse (vitamin B1 deficiency), no brain infection (encephalitis) and no use of drugs like LSD, barbiturates, certain cardiovascular drugs like Digoxin, methyldopa, etc. And no hormonal issues.

Oh! Thank you for this! Far better now. I think I was just completely stressed up. I still can’t remember a large part of my teenage years. I remember years 6-10. Lol. I think my brain is just selective. I don’t let it bother me anymore. However, for about a year or two now, it’s been really good.

You a doctor or nurse?

Lol. What a joke! I mean look at that face. The feeling is mutual bro. We would rather save animals than a human that places no value on other humans.

Career / Re: Chat Between A Mom Whose Child Is On Life Support And Her Boss by Caracta(f): 11:00am On Jul 03, 2018
She wouldn’t be emotionally stable at work. What if things get messed up because she couldn’t concentrate? Come on...that child means more to her than the job. What if she has no one to keep an eye on the child and follow up with the nurses? No husband, no friend, no relative? I don’t know her story. I can’t judge her.

I had an accident May this year on my way to work. My husband was driving on the freeway and we lost control at a ramp. After the accident, while waiting for the ambulance, I called my boss to give him heads-up and he asked if I could walk, I said ‘yes’. He told me to get Uber and get my asss off to work, as a client was waiting for me and was getting impatient. Such a mean selfish creature!

Romance / Re: Her Weight Is Getting Too Much! Help by Caracta(f): 5:47am On Jul 03, 2018
@MISEDUCATIONS, nice angle on your second point. I mentioned that because changing for only the guy means the moment he is no longer in the picture, she would go back to adding weight. See what Toke Makinwa did for her ex? She needs to understand it’s not just about him but doing that for him also means love and acceptance.

I’ll rephrase. She should not do it SOLELY for the guy.

It makes a lot of sense to date a guy who wouldn’t be afraid to tell you your shortcomings. Who has time for ‘pancake’ relationship?
