Car Talk / Top 10 Cars For Single Guys To Attract Women In The World by CarMecx(m): 3:00am On Sep 19, 2018
In case you haven’t figured it out yet, the unfortunate truth for guys is that most women are attracted to men with money (whether they consciously recognize it or not). This has been scientifically proven numerous times such as recently on the “Science of Sex Appeal” that aired on the Discovery Channel. In one section of this televised experiment the female’s rated cars on a scale. Not surprisingly, the women rated upscale expensive cars much higher than the other low dollar cars shown to them. Since women evidently favor expensive cars, what should single guys opt to drive who can’t afford that ultra expensive luxury or sports car? We have developed a list of the top 10 cars for single guys to attract women. Unlike other top ten lists out there that include Lamborghinis and Bentleys; our list is limited to new cars retailing for under $45,000 bucks. These are cars that ought to be within reach for the average guy, and if not now, could be picked up used in a couple years. Although all women have unique tastes, many seem to like cars that make a statement such as powerful truck, sleek sports cars or even a new electric hybrid for the environmentally sensitive girls out there.

Car Talk / What Are The Causes Of Spark Plug Soaked With Oil? by CarMecx(m): 1:13am On Sep 17, 2018
Common reasons for Oil leaking into spark plug well:

Leaking Valve Cover Gaskets: The valve cover is a metal part found on the top of the engine, which seals the engine and helps prevent oil leaks. Between the valve cover and the engine are gaskets that tend to fail over time. Due to the high temperature of the engine the gaskets can get brittle, and start to leak. It is possible for the oil to leak into the spark plug wells. Leaking valve cover gaskets need to be repaired as quickly as possible, failing to do so can lead to further damage to the engine.

Failing O-Ring Seals: There are O-Ring seals at the bottom of the spark plug wells and if a seal starts to fail, oil can leak past these seals and into the spark plug well. Again, this issue should be repaired as soon as possible and the spark plugs should be changed as well.

Failing Piston Compression Rings: The pistons in a car’s engine have compression rings at the top of the piston and the bottom. These rings are set in grooves in the piston and help scrape excess oil from the cylinder walls and prevent oil from getting into the combustion chamber. If these rings fail, oil can make its way into the spark plugs wells. Other symptoms of failing compression rings include increased exhaust that is blue and smells oily.

Failing Piston: A piston that is running too hot can develop a hole or crack. The most common symptoms of a failing piston include rattle and knocking noises while the car is running, excessive oil burning as well as a loss of power and engine misfiring. It can also lead to oil in the spark plug wells. This is an extremely serious condition that needs to be repaired as soon as possible.

Worn Valve Guides: Valve guides help to regulate air intake by keeping the valves in place while the engine is running. Over time, valve guides can become extremely worn and will require replacement. Blue smoke and oil or ash in the spark plug wells is a common symptom of failing valve guides. Worn valve guides can lead to more serious engine problems and should be repaired as soon as possible.

Car Talk / Are Cars With Tinted Windows More Or Less Likely To Be Broken In To? by CarMecx(m): 4:25am On Sep 10, 2018
Like most criminals, car thieves are primarily criminals of opportunity. Most will not bother breaking into someone’s car unless they are reasonably sure there is something expensive inside, which is why it’s always a good idea to conceal any valuables.

You might think that thieves would assume that auto window tinting indicates that your car has something to hide, but industry studies have actually shown that cars with tinted windows make a less likely target. Unable to determine what kind of stereo you have, or to catch a glimpse of your laptop bag under the front seat, most thieves will simply move on to an easier target.

Most states do not allow drivers to completely darken your windows, and car window tinting alone will not single-handedly prevent automobile break-ins. But getting the darkest tint allowed by law as part of an overall strategy of auto security will likely help deter criminals from damaging your car and stealing your belongings. Car Talk / 5 common Signs That Your Car Needs An Alignment by CarMecx(m): 4:46am On Sep 09, 2018
The 5 most common sign that your car needs alignment are:

1. The handling level loose when driving: These can be felt as wandering across the road when driving or the car may feel very loose and sloppy around corners

2. Your steering wheel is not centered: If you are driving straight down a flat, level road your steering wheel should be sitting perfectly straight

3. Your steering wheel doesn't return to center:

After completing a turn, the steering wheel should naturally start to return to center on it own

4. Your car pulls to one side or the other. There is a common misunderstanding that your car should perfectly drive straight with your hands off the steering wheel. Your car should drive straight ahead with very little effort on the steering wheel

5. You notice abnormal tire wear in certain spots:

Wear on only the inside or outsiide edge of tires can indicate a problem with the camber adjustment. Feathering or scalloping of the tires often indicate a problem with the toe adjustment

Note: incorrect wheel alignment can create a host of drivability and premature wear problems. So it is best to get your car inspected as soon as it is noticed
Car Talk / How Far Can You Drive Your Vehicle On Empty? by CarMecx(m): 3:55am On Sep 07, 2018
Knowing how many miles you can drive on an empty fuel tank prevents getting stranded. Nissan Altimas can go the farthest when the low fuel light is on.

Every driver occasionally lets their fuel tank get low enough to trigger the low fuel warning light. Even though we all know it's best to keep your fuel tank ¼ full, we still let it run low from time to time. Knowing how far you can drive on an empty fuel tank will help keep you from getting stuck on the side of the road.

Before letting your car run on empty again, it’s worth knowing just how many – or how few – miles you can actually drive after the light comes on. It’s also smart to know what else is at stake when you let your gas tank run to near depletion.

Is it dangerous to drive with the low fuel warning light illuminated?

The primary concern when driving on empty is the possibility of running out of fuel and getting stuck on the road, which is not only a hassle, but also a potentially dangerous situation. You may break down on the freeway, where the surrounding cars are traveling upwards of 70 MPH, or you may break down on a blind turn on the highway, where a vehicle could rear end you.

That said, driving on empty can also do damage to your vehicle. If you do run out of fuel, you can do damage to your catalytic converter, which may then need to be repaired or replaced as a result. Even the simple act of driving with a low amount of fuel in your tank can damage your fuel pump, as any debris or contamination in the fuel (which naturally settles at the bottom of the tank), will be sent through your fuel pump when the tank is nearly empty. You’re not going to ruin your car the first time you drive it with the low fuel warning light on, but it’s a harmful practice to do regularly.

How trustworthy is the distance to empty gauge?

Most modern vehicles have a distance to empty gauge on their instrument cluster, which provides an approximation of how many miles can be driven before the car runs out of fuel. Many people prefer to use this feature in lieu of the low fuel warning light, figuring that if the gauge says there are 20 miles left, then they have 20 miles before they run out of fuel.

However, this is a dangerous practice, as the distance to empty gauge only offers a rough approximation. This approximation is based on the average mileage that you have attained while driving your vehicle, which means that it may not be very accurate relative to your current driving conditions.

For instance, if most of your driving is done on the highway, then your distance to empty meter is probably not very accurate when you’re stuck in traffic. So while the gauge provides a fairly accurate approximation when your tank is relatively full, it shouldn’t be used to figure out your exact number of miles remaining in the tank when you’re running on empty.

How far can you drive on empty?

Exactly how far you can drive on empty depends on your vehicle, your driving habits, and road conditions. However, you may be surprised to see how few miles you actually can drive once the low fuel warning light comes on.

Driving on empty is sometimes a necessity, and when you find yourself in that situation, it is important for you to know exactly how many miles of range you have left. Figuring this out beforehand is a good way to be prepared when the tank gets really low, and to avoid a breakdown. If you notice that you are reaching empty unusually quickly or have leaking fuel, be sure to have an inspection performed as soon as possible.

Car Talk / 9 Common Mistakes Car Owners Make by CarMecx(m): 11:04am On Sep 06, 2018
Your car is one of the most expensive possessions you have. In order to make the most of your investment, you want give it the care and attention it deserves.

1. Starting up and driving immediately

After getting in the car, the car owners often start it up and drive right away. This habit is not good because the car engines need to have 10-15s to get oil to critical components and let RPMs drop down. Even the old cars need more time. Specifically, in the cold or even freezing weather, the oil gets really thick so, giving your cars 20-30s to start up is necessary.

You shouldn’t drive your car away right after turn it on
To avoid the wrong way driving, please follow this guideline: start it up → give car engines 10-15 seconds to get enough oil → put seatbelt on and do other stuff → drive.

2. Not waiting for cars to warm up

It is often seen that the owners start the cars and drive away. Then, they wrap it up or push car hard before it warms up. In fact, you should wait until engine gets to operating temperature before pushing car hard or speeding up.

In emergency situations, it is obvious that you have to do what you get to do; however, never beat on cold engine, which leads you to be wrong way driver.

3. Changing your oil every 3000 miles

Depending on vehicle age, type of oil and driving conditions, oil change intervals will vary, today’s oil is better than they were back then. So, the habit of changing your oil every 3000 miles is thing of past. For your car, the oil could last 5,000 or 7,500 miles, even with full synthetics oil, they can last up to 15,000 miles. Stop changing your oil every 3000 miles from now on could save you a lot of money. You cannot judge engine oil condition by color, so follow the factory maintenance schedule for oil changes.

4. Irregularly inspecting your cars

Because you drive every day, you cannot take it for granted that tires are not flat, oil is correct or there have enough coolant and windshield wiper fluid. Instead, you should do these following steps in parking lot:

Check 4 tires
Turn lights/flashes on/off
Check blinkers/headlights/taillights

In doing so, you can save your time, money and your life

Frequent car inspection is a good way to maintain your car in good condition

5. Not checking tire pressure

Another wrong thing that car drivers usually do is not to check tire pressure until it gets overinflated. Be aware of checking the guidelines of manufacturer inside door jamb of driver’s side.

6. Do not check your car tires

It is the wrong concept for not checking the tires. If you don’t take close look, you might think tires are still good but in fact, they need to get replaced. Besides, you also need to check cracks and slashes on the tires.

7. Forget the spare tire

Spare tire is often forgotten until you need it. So, after a long time, when you use it to change the old one, the tire gets flat. You need to regularly check the spare tire and fill it up with air if the air is coming out.

8. Not reading user manual

Reading owner’s manual is a fundamental thing when owning a car. Because every car is different and especially when you change the car to another, it is important to spend 2-3 hours reading manual to know functions of all buttons and gauge in your car. Then, you also know the differences between 2 cars.

Spend 2-3 hours reading manual to know functions of all buttons and gauge in your car

9. Cleaning your cars improperly

Many car owners just use paper towels without any liquid on the paint. It is also one of common mistakes that car drivers probably make. Your car would be destroyed by these bad habit of washing. Please remember that it is essential to use microfiber cloth and have some type of lubricant or liquid before cleaning off your paint.
Car Talk / Car First Aid Kit by CarMecx(m): 12:55am On Sep 06, 2018
Having a car stocked with a medical (in event of injury) and a vehicle (in event of auto-trouble) Run through our handy car first aid kit check-list and ensure that you have both sets of emergency equipment in your car at all times.
You will never regret having these kits in your car, but will hopefully never have any case to use them

What should be in a first aid box (medical?)

The first step before you even consider what to put in a medical car first aid kit, is to source a suitable box to store everything

• First Aid Manual

Every first aid kit should contain a first aid manual. The manual will help you know how to treat wounds, sprains, bites, and other common health issues. The guide should be studied before a crisis arises, and everyone with access to the kit should know the basics of first aid.

• Antibiotics cream or powder for injuries and Antiseptic gel for cleaning your hands

• Pain Relievers

Each first aid kit should include a selection of pain relievers. Aspirin-based and non-aspirin pain relievers should be included in the kit at all times. If there are children in the house, be sure to include pain relievers meant for them. These will come in handy when treating a deep wound or scrape and can also be used to relieve minor aches and pains e.g Paracetamol

• Alcohol Swabs

Alcohol swabs are used to clean the infected or wounded area before antibiotic ointment or bandages are placed on the area. Alcohol swabs may also be used in conjunction with anesthetic swabs and can be used to sterilize tweezers if needed.

• Aloevera based burn gel/ ointment

Aloevera aids in preventing burns from blistering and scarring

• Bandages

Adhesive bandages in multiple sizes should be part of a first aid kit. Consider purchasing a box of assorted-size bandages and putting a few of each in the kit. Traditional size bandages are needed more often than the largest and smallest sizes, so it’s a good idea to add a few extra of these, just in case.

• Elastic Bandages

Elastic bandages help keep a sprained joint immobile and reduce swelling. Elastic bandages come with either hook-and-loop or metal fasteners to keep them in place. These flexible bandages can be wrapped around ankles, knees, wrists, and elbows until you can get to a doctor. These bandages vary in width from one to six inches.

• Tweezers

Tweezers are an important tool to have in any first aid kit regardless of how basic your kit is. Tweezers can be used to remove debris such as glass, dirt, or splinters from a wound. They can also be used to remove stingers left behind by bees.

• Medical Tape

Medical tape is used to secure gauze pads or wraps when they are being used as a bandage. This tape is designed not to leave residue behind and usually comes in a long roll

• Curved medical scissors are perfect for cutting clothes always in the event of an accident
• Saline solution for cleaning wounds
• Disposable rubber gloves
• A flashlight

Car First Aid Kit (vehicle)

• Warning triangle
• Car fire extinguisher (dry powder extinguisher that carries a BC or ABC rating and BS rite mark recommended)
• Jumper cables/ car battery charge
• Oil
• Transmission fluid
• Coolant
• Brake fluid
• Jack
• Washer fluid
• Screwdrivers
• Pliers
• Adjustable wrench
• Tire pressure gauge
• Portable Air Compressor Pump
• Spare tire

In conclusion: we all hope that we never need to use either of these kits be it through collision or breakdown

Car Talk / How To Drive Through Standing Water And Flood by CarMecx(m): 9:58pm On Sep 04, 2018
We know that flooding can happen at any time of the year. Floods occur when the input of water is greater than drainage can take away. These can be caused by heavy local rainfalls or by a river bursting its banks from rain upstream.

How to Cross the Flooded Area

The best advice is "avoid" if you can find a solution that doesn’t involve driving through flood, you minimize the risk to both you and your car

If you decide to go through approach the flood water at no more than 5kph in first gear. Keeping the engine revs up (by slipping the clutch in a manual car) to avoid water entering the exhaust pipe

You should avoid driving through more than 6 inches of standing water or more than four inches of moving water. To be sure that there is still road underneath the water

Is the water still rising? If so, are you putting yourself in danger? Remember that your vehicle is replaceable, where’s as your aren’t

See how another car gets on, and then proceed with caution

Don’t speed as going at speed can push water into the engine and can cause a bow wave which can wash into other vehicles, other people’s property and soak pedestrians

Also if you are following another vehicle, wait for it to clear the flood. If it stalls or becomes stranded you don’t want to be trapped behind it as it will be very difficult to reverse out of the flood

Note: If water should get into the engine bay (bonnet) and find it way to the piston it can bend the connecting rod because water can’t be compressed and also it can short out electrics
Car Talk / How Car Batteries Work by CarMecx(m): 9:07am On Aug 31, 2018
What are car batteries and how do they work?
A car battery is an energy storage device that relies on a chemical reaction within the battery to produce electricity. The stored electrical energy is used to initially operate the starter motor, ignition system, and fuel system on your vehicle. Once your car engine is running, the alternator supplies the electricity needed for all vehicle systems and charges the battery to replace the electric energy used when starting a car.
Most electric vehicles have a traction battery which is in addition to the standard 12 volt battery that is used to start the car engine. Traction batteries also convert chemical energy to supply electrical energy but operate at higher voltages and often are monitored by the PCM (Powertrain Control Module).
When to replace a car battery?
Your car doesn’t start: A new battery has a specified capacity to provide power. This capacity is referred to as the cranking amps rating of the battery. As a battery ages, the actual amps that a battery can supply becomes lower than its original rating Once the cranking amps fall below a critical threshold, it will be difficult or impossible to start your car.
Battery or charging system warning light is illuminated: Should a battery or charging system warning light illuminate, a mechanic should perform a few basic tests to determine if a battery replacement is needed.
Electrical components don’t work: Once a battery has started to fail, and the voltage produced by the battery drops, then vehicle electrical components can malfunction, such as the security system. If you are experiencing electrical malfunctions, it’s a smart idea to have the battery tested.

Car Talk / Similarities Between Cars And Humans by CarMecx(m): 10:21am On Aug 26, 2018
God crated man, Man created car. I think in is own image, It got me thinking about what cars have in common with humans.

There are more than you may think! Take a look:

- Humans rely on oxygen, cars uses oxygen for combustion

- Humans have brain, cars today have a brain called ECM ( Electronic Control Module)

- The human has heart, the car heart is the battery it pumps energy throughout the car

- The human body has a thermostat located in the brain called Hypothalamus. A car has a thermostat

- Humans have senses that tells if something is hot, If something hurts, a car has sensor that relay information to the computer

- The human body has blood pressure. cars has fuel pressure, oil pressure and coolant pressure

- when humans eat, there has to be an escape for the waste called faces and urine. A car has exhaust where the carbon comes out

-Humans get old, the body and internal parts of a car age and deteriorate/ the metal rust

- Human have a certain amount of time to be alive. A car has a certain amount of time to run until it comes to an end

- Tires for cars are like shoes on humans, shoes wear out and tires wear out

- The spine of the human is similar to the chassis of a car

- The oil filter is similar to the kidney because it helps to filter oil, like a kidney helps to filter blood

Car Talk / How To Keep Rats Away From Eating Your Car Wires by CarMecx(m): 11:59pm On Aug 22, 2018
Rats they are omnivorous like all rodents, need to chew. Chew anything they can find to keep their incisors from growing through their jaws, but they find the wiring of cars particularly delicious chewing which translate into expensive repairs. If by chance you happen to have some food stashed away in your car, that’s a bonanza for the rats. A car provides for plenty of chewing stuff like Plastic, carpet, seat fabric, anything.
I have even seen a rat chew through the fuel line of a car. The worst part is when a live rat running around and chewing through stuff in your car die. A dead rat in the AC system of a car with smell that is stomach-churning and the car had to be aired out thoroughly even after a disinfectant wash for a couple of days. Such is the menace of rats. Another person had his entire instrument panel go dead because of rats chewing through a critical set of wires that resulted in an expensive wiring harness replacement. Here are some 7 tips to help prevent the rats’ nastiness and costly repairs.
Are They in Your Car?

1. Leave Your Car Bonnet Open: Rats love dark place to nest. This idea may help discourage them but may not be the ultimate solution, do this if you have a secure parking garage in your house.

2. Check under The Bonnet: Rats love the engine bay especially the air filter, cold air intake, air vents and the bonnet. This is also where most of the delicious wiring that they we be chewing up is located, ensure that the air filters and hoses are free of things rats may have stored. It would even be better to have your car professionally steam wash cleaned to ensure all rats’ evidence is removed.

3. Thoroughly Clean Your Car: Remove used food plates, left over junks wrap from the car.

4. Use Rat Trap: Place rat trap on the front, back and top of the tire tread of your front two tires, bait them with oily food and replace the bait once a week only set these trap anytime the car is parked using the old fashioned spring snap rats trap. Don’t use rat poison it attract more rats also to avoid its rotting smell.

5. Clean your Parking Area: Always clean your parking area, keep the area free of garbage that rats are likely to pickup and store in your car.

6. Don’t Let Car Sit Unused: Drive it once in a while to discourage rats from doing mechanical or electrical work.

7. Finally get a cat, but only if you can deal with a cat keeping a cat as a pet.
