Tragedy struck recently in Texas, United States when 2 persons, including a child, were found dead from carbon monoxide poisoning last Tuesday after using a vehicle to generate heat in a Houston home hit by widespread power outage from winter storm.

As a result, the firefighters and police officers in the city responded quickly to the distress call, but found 2 grownups and 2 children suffering from a possible carbon monoxide poisoning. From further information released by the police department, a woman and a girl lost their lives to this poisoning while the two other people in the house, including a man and a boy were taken to the hospital for treatment.

So far, they are yet to release the identity of those involved in this tragic incident. From initial indication, the car was running in the attached garage to provide heat since the power was out due to the rare winter storm. The department however urges people in the community to refrain from using cars, generators and grills close to a building in situations like this.

The dangerous winter storm that hit the south and mid-section part of the country has left over 4 million people with no power. This according to the report was caused by record-low temperatures that overwhelmed the electric grid in Texas.

The areas with the highest number of cases of power outrage are Houston and Galveston. From another related story within the same city, a newspaper company The Houston Chronicle, had to stop the production of their print edition after losing power around 2am. The last time they experienced this was in 2017 during the Hurricane Harvey.

Abilene city with an estimated 70,000 people had to shut off its water services due to the power outage. The skyline in Dallas also went into total darkness in order to save power. A minimum of 25 fatalities were recorded in weather-related tragedy over the last weekend, with many coming from Texas.

The South Korean carmaker Hyundai has unveiled its TIGER concept, set to be their first unmanned ultimate mobility vehicle. The TIGER which stands for Transforming Intelligent Ground Excursion Robot was created by the company’s New Horizon Studio, built to convey payload over challenging terrain.

The TIGER concept is based on a modular platform and offers a load bay within its body. This will make it easy for the vehicle to carry everything ranging from packages for deliveries and emergency supplies.

One of the fascinating features on this TIGER is its wheel locomotion and complex leg, which makes sure it lifts and moves over any obstacle while keeping the payload more stable than on a regular ground vehicle.

This function is one of the highlights of the Elevate concept unveiled by Hyundai in 2019 at the CES. The major difference between the two is that TIGER is smaller and also autonomous.

The concept will also offer some exciting features such as 4G connectivity, GPS, 360 degree ultrasonic sensors and two ground penetrating radar panels for exploration and eight camera arrays.

A man from Florida in the United State has just been apprehended and charged with bank fraud after spending part of coronavirus relief to acquire the latest Lamborghini Huracan, jewelry and clothes.

The man in question with the real name David T.Hines (age 29) is one the many entrepreneurs that got financial assistance from the federal Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). This PPP is a loan scheme created to assist crippling businesses to survive and cater for their workers amidst the ongoing global pandemic.

From the statement released by the US Department of Justice, T.Hines presented fraudulent applications for loans under the pretense that he owns many companies. A report is just reaching us that a 22 year-old Kenneth Gift, has been allegedly arrested for internet fraud by officers of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission in Benin, Edo State.

The suspected yahoo boy, who was apprehended alongside his mother and girlfriend, is an undergraduate of the University of Port Harcourt.

The unit of the EFCC that carried out the operation reportedly seized 3 expensive Mercedes-Benz cars, all belonging to the arrested internet fraudster.
In a recent statement released this Thursday by the spokesperson for EFCC, Dele Oyewale confirmed the story. According to him, Gift Kenneth currently studies Computer Science at UNIPORT. His mother Dorah Animah and girlfriend Dandy Spice were also arrested in Agbor, Delta State. The arrest according to him was based on the petition received from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from the United States.

Fahim Saleh, who happens to be the CEO and founder of Gokada, a popular commercial motorcycle operator in Nigeria, was found dead in his luxury Manhattan apartment in New York.

From what we learnt, the tech guru was found gruesomely murdered, with this body decapitated and dismembered in his apartment located at the Suffolk Street on the Eastside last Tuesday.

In these recent weeks, there have been many cases of theft at dealerships across many showrooms. The latest one according to report reaching us was when a luxury Bentley Continental GT was stolen from a dealership showroom recently.

The crime spree all started when these particular thieves successfully stole 4 different vehicles – Ford Fusion, Genesis G70, Hyundai palisade and Chevrolet Impala after breaking into Elhart Hyundai Dealership.

After pulling such auto heist, the thieves were not ready to call it a day. They reportedly drove these stolen 4 vehicles to the European Autohaus, where they broke into the dealership by using tire iron.

After searching the dealership showroom for car keys, they were able to get that of a Continental GT model. Surprisingly, the thieves decided to take a dramatic exit by driving the luxury car right through the doors of the showroom.

Unfortunately, the car didn’t get through as they expected. It was held up after getting clipped to a frame. The thieves were able to pull it out after flooring it.

Just as the thieves were about to leave the showroom, the police arrived, which led to hot chase that also involved the stolen Ford Fusion. Interestingly, the thieves were able to escape after ditching the car.

From what we learnt, this project is a testament to the unrelenting effort of the government of Lagos State under the administration of Governor Sanwo-Olu in curtailing the spread of the deadly virus in the state.

Mr. Tunji Bello, the current Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources in Lagos State, while speaking at the flag-off exercise last weekend at the Iddo Bus-Stop, revealed Julius Berger’s effort in helping to safeguard lives of those residing in state.

The Commissioner however assured the people of the state that Lagos State government will not relent in adopting several measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Bello also commended the construction giant for the provision of chemicals, tankers and trucks with dispenser, used in dispensing hand railings and surfaces at many locations. To him, areas where this disinfection occurred include Computer Village, Ojodu Berger, Agidingbi Bus Stop and Grammar School. The next exercise will run through areas within Lagos such as Oyingbo, Yaba, Jibowu, Orile, Bode Thomas, Ojota, Iddo Market, Ojuelegba and iponri.

For those living in the Lagos Island, the disinfecting exercise will run through outer and inner parts of Marina, Tafawa Balewa Square, Tinubu Square, CMS, Glover Road, Obalende Roundabout, Sura Bus Stop and Upper Campos Bus Stop.

The Commissioner further explained that the deployed chemical for the fumigation contains Chlorine and Hydrogen Peroxide. The exercise according to him will end on Monday. He later urged corporate bodies and well-meaning residents of the state to show their support for a safer place for all to live in.
