Family / Man Who Left His Wife To Marry His Own Daughter Welcomes A Baby With Her by ceee9ja: 5:57pm On Feb 05, 2018
Steven Pladl, 42, left his wife to start a relationship with his 20-year-old daughter Katie Pladl, who has now reportedly given birth to his child.

Steven also told his other children that they should start referring to their eldest sibling as their “step-mom”, according to court documents. The couple is now facing criminal charges after police uncovered the horrendous scandal.

A wife found out her long-lost daughter was pregnant with her dad’s child after reading about it in one of her other children’s journals.

Katie was given up for adoption at birth in 1998. When she turned 18, she decided to track down her biological parents.
She reportedly first contacted her biological parents through social media. The family then arranged for her to come and visit them in Richmond, West Virginia, in August 2016 and she met the Pladl’s and her two younger siblings.

Within months of meeting her parents, her mum had moved out of the family home with her two children. Later, Steven reportedly told his wife that he planned to get married to his daughter.
Katie’s mum told police that Steven had begun “sleeping on Katie’s floor”, according to court documents. Then in May 2017, the wife read in one of her other children’s journals that Katie was pregnant and Steven was the father.
In July last year, Katie posted Instagram photos of herself heavily pregnant and kissing her dad by a lake. The caption suggested it was their “wedding day”.

Nairaland / General / Facebook User Explains His Ordeal With Officers Of Nigerian Police Force by ceee9ja: 5:42pm On Feb 16, 2017
6 Nigerian police officers picked me up at a junction and manhandled me for refusing to enter their truck then they threw away the food and water I bought.
At that point I tried to make a call to a colleague and one of my phones was flung away from my hand. Then they forced and carried me inside the truck.
Because they were not wearing uniforms I began to shout for help to the onlookers under the assumption that they were kidnappers, they immediately showed me their ID cards and didn't ask for mine.

Read after the cut........

I stopped shouting, they told me they had been tracking me all morning and even knew that I was with a friend with a beard (we had breakfast together in the morning), they claimed they had reliable information about me.
I couldn't believe my ears and eyes, they said they were taking me to the station, I was eager to get to that station because they would surely be in trouble by the time I got there. They had me unlock my phones after threatening me and they opened my emails, text messages, i messages, whatsapp and messenger.
Then they went through my pictures and recognized the friend I had breakfast with and began to agree with themselves that he was the one. From there I knew someone somewhere had informed them falsely that we were internet fraudsters or yahoo boys. It was the only reason why 6 of them had come to arrest both of us and he had gone back to the hotel.
They went through the other pictures and saw photographs of and with public dignitaries I took for a function I attended yesterday and that was when they realized that I would be trouble if we got to the station. They took me to my hotel gate and asked me to get down, I refused. I insisted that we should go to the station so I can know my offense as that was what they said initially.
My initial fear and confusion had turned to confidence, I refused to come down, they pulled me out of the police truck the very same way they pulled me in 10 minutes earlier and dropped my phones on the floor and zoomed off. Their truck didn't have a license plate, there was no way to go after them. I am angry at grateful at the same time.
You hear lots of extra judicial killings everyday and about innocent people in jail awaiting trial for what they don't even know. You hear stories about young men being picked up by police officers and never seen again. I am grateful for coming out of this experience safe and sound, For being able to write my experience on Facebook from the safety of my hotel room.
Then I am angry for coming from a country where Human Rights violations are the norm of our security agencies. A country where blood thirsty security agencies kill it's own citizens for nothing.
I pray that we may never be victims of police brutality. It is the most scary experience ever because these men have the license to carry live firearms.
Beware!
The Nigerian police is your enemy.

NYSC / What This Corp Member Was Found Doing As Service Will Amaze You In Ebonyi by ceee9ja: 1:18pm On Nov 15, 2016
A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), serving in Ebonyi State, Mr Godshield Kanjal, has implemented the one-man-one-hectre agriculture programme initiated by Governor David Umahi. He said he took to farming to boost food production and wealth creation in the state and country at large.

Kanjal, who spoke to Campus Sun, in Abakaliki, the state capital, noted that agriculture has become the lifeline for the nation at this period of dwindling oil revenue. He said he keyed into the farming initiative for the period of his one-year compulsory service to fatherland.

The corps member advised young graduates to shift their thinking from seeking unavailable white-collar jobs, insisting that graduates instead, should venture into entrepreneurship by acquiring skills related to agriculture.

He further pleaded with the government to empower out-going corps members with ‘take-home-grant’ to enable them to be self reliant after service.

He said the high cost of rice in local market was part of the reason he took to rice farming. “I decided to key into the programme because it was promising, especially looking at the skyrocketing price of rice in the market.

My three-hectre rice farming is blossoming and would be harvested by December,” he stated.

Education / ASUU To Kick Start Nationwide Strike On Wednesday by ceee9ja: 1:08pm On Nov 15, 2016
The Academic Staff Union of Universities has directed its members nationwide to commence a one-week warning strike with effect from Wednesday, November 16 (tomorrow) to protest the non-implementation of its 2009 agreement with the Federal Government.

According to ASUU, the strike action will be “total and comprehensive”, adding that while it lasted, there would be no teaching, examinations and attendance of meetings in any of its branches.

The union said it would be going on strike over part payment of salaries, non-payment of subventions and the inability of the Federal Government to provide funds for the revitalisation of public varsities, among other reasons. The union also accused government of allegedly turning the establishment of universities into constituency projects to score a political point.

The National President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, while unfolding the plans for the protest, at a press conference after its emergency National Executive Council meeting in Abuja, on Monday, said several efforts to get the government to respect the terms of their agreement had been unsuccessful.

Ogunyemi said, “Our members across the nation are worried that six months after the meeting with the minister of education and a series of letters to amplify the need to respect the spirit and letters of the 2009 agreement and the 2013 Memorandum of Understanding, there has been no tangible results of the issues raised.

“This failure puts ASUU leadership in a severe difficulty responding to enquiries from members of the union about the state of affairs in our engagement with the Federal Government. Following a nationwide consultation with our members, the NEC of ASUU rose from its meeting on Sunday, November 13 with a resolution to embark on a one- week warning strike starting from Wednesday November 16 2016.

“The nationwide strike action is total and comprehensive. While it lasts, there shall be no teaching, no examination and no attendance of statutory meeting of any kind in any of our branches.”

He also said the licensing of more universities by the National Universities Commission will not solve the challenge of quality education.

Education / UNILAG Expels 125, Rusticates 198 Students by ceee9ja: 9:40am On Oct 17, 2016
Authorities of the University of Lagos have expelled 125 students and rusticated 198 others for various offences, including examination malpractices during last academic session. The lists of the affected students were published on the university’s website on Sunday.

The institution’s Deputy Registrar (Information), Mr. Toyin Adebule, confirmed the expulsion and estimation to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Sunday, Adebule told NAN that the university “will soon publish and display the names and photographs of the students in the media

He said that the action was in line with the university’s zero tolerance on malpractices and other vices in campus. “Yes we have published some names on our website and these students will be punished in various degrees, depending on the severity.

“Last session, a number of students were caught in various forms of malpractices during their examinations. “Some were found cheating during the examination with “micro sheets” while others were hired as surrogates to write papers for others. “Others were caught smoking weeds (Marijuana) right in their halls of residence by their colleagues and reported to the university authorities.

“For those who were caught impersonating, writing examinations for others, they will face outright expulsion,’’ Adebule said. Adebule said the other categories of students, such as those caught with micro sheets and the smokers, would face suspension ranging from two to four semesters.

“In other to get the desired effect of their various punishments, we are planning to publish all their names as well as display their photographs all over the campus in the next one week. “We shall carry out this measure in all the departments and faculties in the institution. “This is to help the university ensure that the affected students will have nowhere to hibernate on campus.

“By doing this, the affected students would know that the university want to ensure total compliance to the sanction and would not want to be seen anywhere around the campus,’’ he said. Adebule said that before every examination, the university normally make available the rules and regulations for the students to abide by.

He said that such rules and regulations were usually accompanied by various sanctions for defaulters.
According to him, the university will continue to do all it can to sustain set standards and best practices as obtained in other top universities around the world.

Adebule, however, clarified that the development had nothing to do with those involved in the recent students’ riot.
Here is a full list of rusticated students.
