Please permit me to educate a bit. This is not around 1% per year at all, It is far more. The coupon to be paid annually is the interest rate associated with the bond at par (yes, that interest rate as a whole comes into your account every year). It is at most times paid semi annually or quarterly. The Capital is returned to you at the bond's maturity. There is however a secondary market for bonds, so you can discount it and exit(if you wish). For this particular issues, coming at this time, the major risk I can foresee is the interest rate risk. In Finance, Bonds are described as risk-free Investments because at the worst of cases, the Government can print money when redemption time comes (except for the case of Greece in 2009). I was watching the TV today and came across this Youtube channel by a Naija single lady. I think the girls passed across vital information..but as with all information, it is good to sieve it and adapt it to your lifestyle. It will be helpful to most singles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0qGNS-0bWI 1 Like |

Re: https://www.nairaland.com/6447404/how-nigerians-abroad-complain-loneliness Permit me to do a follow-up to this very sensitive topic, at least sensitive to me. I will also say I believe I am qualified to write about this having lived legally in 3 different countries (continents) in the last 11 years. I have had the opportunity to live in Manchester, Dubai and currently live in Canada since 2018. I had mad fun in Manchester, yet I was an introvert then. I enjoyed Dubai and it was never dull for me. I saw the money I wanted and I was never bored. I was already an extrovert by the time I moved to Canada. I work in a FI where I needed all the social skills and I talk and socialize every business hour of the day (almost every). However, this place is boring. It is a loneliness haven. I actually made this thread 'cause I noticed as usual that some people had turned the initial one to a "talk-to-girl", "talk-to-boy" issue; some people who are still dreaming in our "lovely" country, still shouting "enugbe" on other threads but will be quick to be judges on other people's sincere expressions. Someone talked about gyms, churches, etc....Gyms are closed. religious centers operate at 1/3 capacity now, physical library is closed. As for me, I am single but I mingle well, have both guys and girls visit me with some girls sleeping over; spend quality time on my PS5, and I also visit friends. I have had to travel to Nigeria 3 times already in 3 years just to enjoy a bit of sanity and vanity as well; and of course, video calls to my naija friends from time to time brings so much smiles and laughter that I don't even mind sending them whatever I can from time to time. However, that does not stop the boredom or loneliness when it comes in. I have had to drive around the city just to get lively, finished 1.4l bottle of drink all alone on a weekend and many more of such. You need to be here to know how it feels. And it is not only me; I have a couple of married men who get bored and come chill at my place. I have friends who will say they were bored last weekend but did not want to come disturb me cause they came already during the week. And for those that will advise that I come back to Naija, I don't need to be told. I am already building a future I would want for myself over there; hence my frequent visit. The current exchange rate has also brought so much joy. Everyone will experience some things differently but do not be quick to think you would have done it any better. who no go no know. 1 Like |

Genevach: To start with, not may provinces care with a law on winter tires. Alberta does not have one. Last year, I was late to change to winter tires because I was a bit busy. Just at the first snow fall, my car skidded terribly on the road but the good thing was that it on a lonely street and It was wide enough not to affect other parked cars. I carefully drove it back home, parked and took cabs till I had time to change the tires. If you however have All Season Tires, they will hold on well; but if you are on the normal tires(summer tires)..just make sure you have AA or AMA numbers for possible towing. But why will anyone consider such? 5 Likes |

DanielDriz: "cleanest city" is relative. Live in Calgary if it meets all what you desire, not just for its cleanliness. Consider the vibrancy of its economy, the mix of its population, job availability, good schools and available recreation as well as a busy Int'l airport for ease of travelling. Calgary is lovely, but being one of the "cleanest city in the world", I do not know. I live and enjoy living in Calgary. Hope to see you soon. 8 Likes 1 Share |

I live and work in Canada and I hope my views will meet the OP well, if he truly came here to seek advice. I was moved to comment by those dropping country names, those suggesting student routes, some even quoting school fees and air fare..all on a budget of N2.5m. While N2.5m is a decent sum in most part of the country, Nigeria; it may not command that much value outside. Kindly slowly read through these few points, if you join them together, you should be able to make a decision. Please Note: I understand what the feelings are when you have made up your mind to relocate, so I will encourage you to please relocate. I also understand what it means to gather N2.5m in Nigeria, so I will encourage you to keep your Capital Safe. 1. I had to pay N750k plus another $585 CAD (Montreal to destination) for my family member who needed to come back here just this July during one of the numerous arranged flight processes. Although Airports are re-opening for business, airfares are not back to what they used to be. 2. Once in a while I come across students who came in from Nigeria, and I can only say the happy ones are those who have someone else paying their fees. As a student, you are permitted 20 hrs of work per week. Minimum wage in Alberta is $15/hr but a shared room will be around $600 (when you get here, you will know what utility bills really are). This can lead a cash-strapped student to something bad. 3. Someone mentioned school fees as $5k CAD...please, which school? SAIT in Calgary costs $17k/ Annum for International students for a 2 years course. That is even a Polytechnic..Even some courses at BVC cost above $10k. Know that if you have a degree already , and you now applied to a college for diploma here all in the name of getting in, the VOs are not sleeping. 4. Also know that you need a PR or Work permit to be able to get a SIN and also work in Canada. 5. Do not let some fantasy-led laptop-armed people deceive you to use all that "huge" sum on visa processing alone when in actual fact, that is your total relocation budget. If it was that easy, they would be here. 6. Kindly take good care of your young family, do not let your plans affect them negatively in any form. 7. See you at the top bro. 18 Likes 3 Shares |
