Nairaland / General / Ondo State Network Of Snail Farmers by Cheersman(m): 12:05pm On Jul 07, 2017
This is clarion call to all farmers presently raising snails, who will be raising snails, who might invest in snail Farming, buying and marketing/Exporting snails from our state to a synergistic cycle of production for the good of all. A course that would advance the present disjointed chains of production and supplies into a systematic standardized value chains across board.
Agriculture / Re: HOT Selling Rice Destoner / Destoning Machines For Sale by Cheersman(m): 2:47am On Aug 30, 2016
Sorry this is not to burst your bubbles. But for all might know that same rice de-stoner machine was offered at a subsidized cost of about 190k under the GES program of FMARD. Bombard their offices if you really want to buy and even if buying from hand to hand it may not go beyond half of what is quoted here. Indeed I got indirect contact with a holder of it at the Abuja office. More important that it goes round, don't you think? Generally speaking, the machine is good and indeed energy efficient. A quick returns on investment for those in that business of rice processing.

Please what could be killing my snails, they just whiten and die off. Please Ogas in here help.
From what you said, too much of light (provide cover dried leaves) and lack of nutrient (especially calcium). If from the start it's like that, then you must have brought in stressed snails as breeding stock. All the best. Lets hear how it goes.

RichYoungRuler:

Hi, you stack tyres on each other say 3 or 4. U put a net on the one before the topmost to prevent a jailbreak. U would have put some soil in the last one beneath. Can send a picture when I'm less busy. Hope U understand though?
Having a shade is not a bad idea but the tires provide a shade with the snails staying in the inner parts of the tyres. The stack also provide shades for them.
Please it's very true you can farm snails anywhere but you really need to know the technicalities to be able to do anything to still be on course. That tire will provide shade is* not really true sirs. *Listen to me, *never use tires* except it's under shade. Tire is black and black is a great absorber of heat. And that will make the inside too hot for convenience for snails to be productive and may heightened mortality, if touched by direct sunlight. Now technically speaking, best temperature for snail jolliment is between 25 - 28 degrees Celsius. Go put your thermometer in the one you place in the Sun and you will be reading 35-and above. *A killer temperature!*
Well the devastating thing is the rapid temperature fluctuations that occurs when that happens. So be careful sirs and tread with caution. Happy Snailing!

Agriculture / Re: How The Governmennt New Agricultural Policy Will Help You by Cheersman(m): 12:31pm On Aug 14, 2016
Go read up their programs and policies and get to know which one fits you and walk to any of their state offices of FMARD to get real-time steps to go (and many times the state offices are too slow if really serious about this go to National office!). See attached

AFAN is the one recognise at the federal level with the woman wing called AWFAN.Both are present in all the state L. G. but mind you they are now politics. Both don't enjoy the government if the executives do not belong to the present political party. I personally is an assistant woman leader under a L. G. but the state exco are not literate so they do things to just get money from govt and not doing anything called farming. The other should be NGO. thanks

True talk ma. In addition as at today AFAN national is polarized as there are two factions, one a kangaroo leadership, the other authentic. However, as its establishment was by government directives (OBJ 's regime), it has not seriously been in main stream since that government was gone. So what you have left is the relics, strong and operational in one state and almost none existent in another. Very active in Osun as I know but Here in Ondo State it's seriously polarized along the two factions of the National, so much so that it has been a serious contentions for many years until the Ondo State government through the state's ministry of Agric set it aside for another last year. My take is this, it's people who make up an organization that matters not whatsoever name they bear, sometimes the National body is good but chop-u-chop are their representative in the state (seeking only their own not the farmers), check out the caliber of people you are dealing with, are they non Farmers posing as Farmers representatives? Do they have farms themselves? Are they men of integrity? What has been their track records? These and many more questions will guide your decision to deal or not to deal.
