Politics / Alimosho Voice Congratulates Bisi Yusuf On His Emergence As Mandate Movement by ChemmyNaija: 9:31am On Apr 03
A pressure group within the All Progressives Congress in Alimosho has extended her congratulatory message to Hon. Bisi Yusuf on his emergence as the leader of the mandate movement in Alimosho. The movement which has been riddled with crisis for over 18 months has finally settled its rift.
The crisis which was a result of the mandate movement denying Bisi Yusuf to install his stooge as the Chairman of Ayobo- Ipaja LCDA and his refusal to accept Abdullahi Enilolobo as the leader of the Mandate movement - made him and his followers to pull out of the group to form a parallel body that has now finally been settled by Govenor Babajide Sanwoolu.

According to the P.R.O of Alimosho voice, Comrade Alabi Ade "Finally, the crisis between who is the authentic mandate has been laid to rest between the warring factions in Alimosho. The blame for political misery, financial misappropriation in governance and lack of adequate infrastructure in Alimosho lies at the doorstep of the mandate movement. These are the people and group in power for over a decade running our local governments. While the going was fine within the mandate movement, Alimosho residents suffered and are still suffering from their ineptitude. It is glaring that, when the pot of soup started cracking and the soup began to lick, they parted ways. As for us, the development of Alimosho is paramount to us, and they should for the sake of Alimosho people allow peace to reign. Other group in Alimosho are known for peace."

"We once again congratulate Bisi Yusuf on his emergence as the new leader of the mandate movement in Alimosho, he should be magnanimous enough to carry Abdullahi Enilolobo's faction along . The crisis between them made us lose the Presidential election to the Labour party in the 2023 general election."

"The Bisi Yusuf-led mandate accused Enilolobo's group of mismanaging presidential election funds from the 2023 general elections. However, our sources indicate that Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, leader of the mandate movement in Alimosho, intervened and settled the matter. Notably, both groups remain loyal to Aregbesola to this day."

"If truly Bisi Yusuf and Enilolobo are ready to work together as a team, it will surely help Alimosho to garner more votes in 2027. And we advise Bisi Yusuf not to discriminate, he should see them as one Mandate and they should all sever any remnants left of loyalty they have for Aregbesola in them and stand with Asiwaju. We wish the mandate well in this is their journey," Alabi said.

Bisi Yusuf is a three term legislator in the Lagos state house of assembly and two term executive Chairman has been approved to lead Mandate movement and ensure peace.

Politics / Tunde Oladunjoye’s Self-praise Falls Flat As Ogun Politicians Shun His Theatrics by ChemmyNaija: 4:15pm On Mar 12
By Wale Onifade

Tunde Oladunjoye, the self-styled media warrior and political opportunist, has once again found himself in the middle of a grand self-adulation exercise—this time over the adoption of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) by the federal government. What was supposed to be a moment of collective celebration for Ogun State was hijacked by Oladunjoye in his usual fashion—twisting narratives to place himself at the center of attention. But this time, his attempts have largely backfired.

Instead of drawing applause, his self-promotion has only led to silent disregard. Those who once entertained his theatrics have deliberately chosen to ignore him, leaving him stranded in his own echo chamber. Political observers, party stalwarts, and even members of his supposed media constituency have refused to engage with him, making it clear that his desperate attempts at validation have worn thin.

Oladunjoye’s modus operandi has always been clear—create unnecessary media conflicts, paint himself as an indispensable figure, and force the political class to recognize him.

In the past, this strategy may have given him some leverage, but today, the tide has turned. Ogun’s political elite have grown tired of his predictable antics.

Many now see through his desperate marketing tactics. His calculated moves to position himself as a potential deputy governor for a leading APC governorship aspirant in Ogun State have not gone unnoticed.

From his overinflated sense of relevance to his incessant need to insert himself into every major discourse, Oladunjoye is transparently lobbying for attention. But the political gladiators of Ogun are playing smarter this time—they see no real value in his noise.

There is a growing consensus that personalities like Tunde Oladunjoye should be kept far from the corridors of power. His track record is littered with self-serving propaganda, a lack of genuine leadership, and an overestimation of his own importance.

A man who thrives on media manipulations, unnecessary confrontations, and political parasitism should not be allowed anywhere near governance.

Ogun State deserves better than an individual who only sees public service as a means to self-promotion.

For too long, Oladunjoye has operated under the illusion that he is a "subject that matters."

However, the silence from key stakeholders in Ogun’s political circles speaks volumes—his era of relevance is fading. While he may continue his usual tactics of self-glorification and political scheming, the reality is that his influence is dwindling.

This time, no amount of media spin will save him. The political class is watching, and they have decided: Tunde Oladunjoye is not worth the engagement.

Politics / Group Alleges Plot To Invalidate Obasa's Impeachment As Lagos Assembly Speaker by ChemmyNaija: 10:51pm On Mar 09
*Claims judgment already written

*Declares forged document used to promote embattled clerk

A pro-Lagos development group, Agenda for New Lagos (ANL), has raised the alarm over plans to use the court to invalidate the impeachment of Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, as the speaker of Lagos State.

The group, in a press release by its Protem Chairman, Kamal Olorunnisola, said the court judgment to make this happen has already been written and would be delivered next Monday after hearing the case instituted by Obasa in the heat of his impeachment saga, tomorrow, Monday, March 10th.

In addition to the seemingly unending Lagos Assembly drama, the group claimed that the clerk preferred by Obasa, Mr. Olalekan Biilamin Onafeko, was fraudulently promoted through the back door in. 2022 using “Special Advancement” subject only to the approval of the governor.

Addressing the plot to “legalise the recent illegality” at the Lagos assembly, the group, in the press release titled, “Obasa: the ultimate end of the drama”, claimed that, “Many of the Assenly members were tricked into accepting that Obasa will subsequently resign after Meranda.

“But unknown to them, it was just a political gimmick. As soon as he was ‘re-elected’ out of damage control, he adjourned indefinitely, obviously awaiting judgement in the case instituted to legitimise the illegalities.

“That explains why contrary to the pledge to withdraw hiscase, it continued. They already have the judgment written invalidating the proceedings that removed him. All machinery has been put in place towards railroading the judge.

“Upon given the judgment, obviously wrong in law, Obasa will direct no appeal on behalf of the Assembly while Meranda is already out of the way.

“The import is that he had never been removed while Meranda was never speaker. The further implication is that the removed clerk will equally return contrary to the resistance of his colleagues, as of right as no proceeding that is valid would have removed him.

“Then the Oga will have his way and rejoice. Bearing any last minute change of mind, the judgment cannot change, because it has been written as part of the grand plan to institutionalise Obasa in the assembly,” the group explained.

Shedding more light on the alleged “fraudulent promotion granted Onafeko, the group, which provided the “Special Advancement” letter signed by one Mrs. Folashade Latona, said it was an aberration because only the governor could issue such a letter granting the promotion termed ‘special advancement’.

In the letter dated July 20, 2022, titled: “Special Advancement” and addressed to Onafeko, the terse letter read: “I am pleased to inform you that the Commission (Lagos Assembly Service Commission), at its last policy meeting approved your request for advancement, based upon the recommendation from Lagos House of Assembly.

“Subsequently, you are advanced to the post of Deputy Director, Salary Grade Level 16 notionally and financially from 1st July, 2022. Notice of the event will soon be published in the state’s official gazette. Hearty congratulations.”

According to the group, which also provided the phone number of Mrs. Latona for verification and ask why she signed a special advancement letter in place of the governor, said these were “some of the aberration and illegalities that typify the Obasa leadership.”

The group, therefore, appealed to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the civil society and all lovers of Lagos and democracy to pay attention to the reign of terror in the state and the plan to abuse the judiciary, because the developments in Lagos could blow over and consume all.

Celebrities / Revealed: How Bunmi Oyewole Destroys Homes For Fame And Fake Lifestyle by ChemmyNaija: 3:06pm On Mar 02
***How She Has Mastered the Game of Deceit in All Her Relationships

In what has become one of the most talked-about scandals in recent royal history, the brief and tumultuous relationship between Oba Adekeye of Joga Orile, a town in Ogun State, and Bunmi Oyewole, a notorious London socialite, has left behind a trail of controversy, accusations, and irreparable damage to the respected monarch’s reputation.

Their union, which lasted only three months, ended with a whirlwind of scandal, setting social media ablaze with shocking revelations about Bunmi's controversial past and questionable motives.

Bunmi Oyewole’s path to becoming the “Queen” of Oba Adekeye was marked by deception, manipulation, and controversy.

The relationship began in 2023 after Olori Olanike Ayinke Adekeye, the Oba’s estranged wife, left the palace. In this period of vulnerability, Bunmi saw an opportunity to secure her place by the side of the monarch.

Despite still being legally married to Adeniyi Lawal, a medical worker in the UK, Bunmi left the UK while the rape case against her husband was still ongoing, and traveled to Nigeria to engage in a traditional wedding ceremony with Oba Adekeye. Sources reveal that she forged a divorce certificate in order to present herself as free to marry the king, despite her unresolved legal issues with her first husband.

Her haste to marry Oba Adekeye, even while still married to her UK-based spouse, raised eyebrows and added to her growing reputation as a woman willing to go to extreme lengths to gain access to power and wealth.

Bunmi's troubled relationship history speaks volumes about her personality and motivations. Before her short-lived marriage to Oba Adekeye, Bunmi had been married twice. Her first marriage was to Mr. Steve Fowowe in April 2004, in Irepodun Local Government, Ekiti State. The union, which lasted 12 years, produced three children but ultimately ended in May 2016 due to irreconcilable differences.

Barely five months later, in November 2016, she married her second husband, Adeniyi Lawal, in Lagos. This union would soon become a focal point for scandal, as Bunmi would later accuse her husband of rape, an allegation that led to his imprisonment in the UK.

While her second husband languished in prison, Bunmi turned her sights on Oba Adekeye, seeking the security, fame, and luxury lifestyle she so desperately craved. Her marriage to the Oba, however, lasted only three months before imploding amid accusations, financial mismanagement, and personal conflict.

Unfortunately, her wedding with Fowowe ended with the latter losing an entire house to her hands while the second husband, Lawal was not left out with 3 exotic cars all carted away by Bunmi as a unholy proceed from the union.

Throughout her relationship with Oba Adekeye, Bunmi became known for her lavish spending and ostentatious lifestyle, which critics say was funded by unpaid loans and mounting debts. Her obsession with fame and luxury was no secret, as she routinely posted about her extravagant lifestyle on social media.

But those close to her, especially within the London social circles, revealed that Bunmi's outward display of wealth was not backed by legitimate earnings. Instead, her lifestyle was financed by a web of unpaid debts, loans, and financial mismanagement.

Despite being dependent on Universal Credit in the UK, a government welfare program designed for individuals with little or no income, Bunmi made claims that she spent millions of naira on Oba Adekeye. Given her reliance on state benefits, questions were quickly raised about how she could afford such a lavish lifestyle.

Bunmi's financial situation was widely known in London’s social circles, yet she continued to flaunt a life of opulence in front of the King, even allegedly gifting him expensive gold, jewelry, and phones.

Politics / The Cross Of Mallam Nasir El Rufai by ChemmyNaija: 10:53am On Feb 28
We consider the political bullying of the personality of Mallam Nasir El Rufai by certain elements in the political space and the media as unjust and a form of discrimination and marginalization which should be alien to the modern civilization. Mallam as we know him is a compatriot and nationalist of the elite caliber from the Northern Nigeria. To treat him as a disposable dish is uncanny.

You may not like the personality of the man because he is frankly blunt. He tells it as it is and does not take pleasure in deceiving others. He speaks his mind in the open as in secret.

This is considered a strange behaviour in the Nigerian political space where deception and sycophants hold sway. You must be a maradona to play the political game in Nigeria.

Unfortunately Mallam is not a maradona. So the political space in Nigeria sees him as unfit.
Let us remind ourselves of some of the qualities that make the man a different species. When he became governor in Kaduna, he was determined to improve on the quality of education and also improve revenue base for the state.

To do that, he needed to get rid of incompetence and engage the best minds and hands. He conducted examinations for the teachers in the schools and found out that most of them were incompetent. His actions were seen as wickedness by those who do not care about the quality of education that our supposed future leaders are getting. He pressed on with his convictions and sacked the incompetent teachers and engaged well tested teachers from different parts of the country.

Ethnicity was not a criteria for the recruitment. Yorubas, Igbos, Hausas and other ethnic groups were well represented in the Kaduna State teaching workforce. That nationalist attribute made enemies for him not only in Kaduna State but all over the nation. ‘Boko – haram presumed objective is that, western education is a crime’. How can a promoter of western education be equated to BH?

He brought in tax experts and young minds with elite business acumen to help improve the revenue base of the state. He digitized revenue collection and cut out bottlenecks. He got more enemies for taking forward steps. Some alleged that he brought non indigenes to milk the state. By the end of his first tenure the development in Kaduna State silenced all his detractors.

On the national level, a fearless Mallam spoke out against the unjust policies of government for which EFCC was sent after him. He stood his ground and went to present himself to the EFCC. Nothing could be pushed as charges. He was released immediately. You can't deny the truth. Mallam is fearlessly committed to justice.

The sacrifices of Mallam and his commitment to justice helped brought in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. At party level, there was a plot to deny Asiwaju of the party's ticket to stand as the presidential candidate of the APC in favour of another Northern candidate who was favoured by the then sitting president.

Mallam again, stood for justice and openly declared that it is the turn of the south to present a president. He unwittingly gave his support to Asiwaju and worked assiduously during the campaign to actualize the dream.

We are aware that the president presented Mallam as one of the ministerial nominees. His enemies saw it as an opportunity to prevent the man from adding the voice of justice to the administration of Bola Tinubu. They brought up accusations which are unfounded.

But because they have supporters in the national assembly, their voices were sheepishly obeyed. They may have succeeded then, now we are determined to speak up for men who are being unduly sacrificed to perpetuate the selfishness of a few greedy elements.

Mallam is the leader who gave unprecedented opportunities to young men and women in his cabinet as governor of Kaduna State. A grateful person is rich in contentment. We believe in his leadership ideologies and stand with him at a time like this when his political detractors have started the game of seeking to defame his enviable reputation.
It is in the history that Mallam was a vanguard against the cashless policy of the past administration where masses have to buy money at an exorbitant rate. Learn to appreciate what you have, before time makes you appreciate what you had.
Rotimi Fasan recall ‘All thanks to the diligent monitoring and enforcement of the restriction by the governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El Rufai, himself. The governor was one of the first people to be infected with the virus and he struggled for his life for almost two months’. Nasir El Rufai has for long recognized the importance of being earnest. It does not matter whether he is right or wrong, he is a man of his own conviction and he takes life seriously, perhaps too seriously some would say.

This is a press release by Youth Liberation Movement, Ibadan, Oyo, Nigeria.

Politics / Olaseni Salako’s Political Ascent: A New Dawn For Ogun State PDP by ChemmyNaija: 11:24am On Feb 27
In the dynamic political terrain of Ogun State, one name continues to stand out—Chief Olaseni Olubusola Salako. A native of Idogo, Yewa South Local Government, Olaseni was born on June 13, 1973, into the prominent Salako family of Agbole Oluwo.

His journey from a thriving private sector career to the frontline of Ogun State politics is a testament to his vision, resilience, and dedication to the people.

An alumnus of Ogun State University, Ago Iwoye, where he earned a degree in Economics, Chief Olaseni built an impressive professional career. He served at Refuge Insurance Company as a Marketing Controller before taking up the role of Managing Director at Wao Logistics between 2005 and 2010. Seeking greater knowledge and exposure, he relocated to Canada in 2011, where he further honed his skills and expertise.
Despite his international experience, his heart remained in Nigeria, particularly in Yewa land. This commitment led to the establishment of the Salako Empowerment Foundation (SEF), which has transformed countless lives through social and economic interventions. SEF’s programs have uplifted many by offering financial aid, educational scholarships, and skills development initiatives.

Chief Olaseni’s passion for governance and grassroots empowerment naturally led him to active participation in politics, where he has become a major stakeholder in Ogun State’s PDP. His influence within the party continues to reshape the political landscape, solidifying his reputation as a people-centric leader.

In 2022, Apagun Olaseni vied for the PDP's ticket to represent the good people of Yewa South State Constituency at the Ogun State House of Assembly, Abeokuta. This legitimate political aspiration provided a firsthand insight to the genuine aspirations of the people who have undeservedly continued to suffer all manners of misrepresentation and abject neglect from the government both at the state and the federal levels.

However, the ambition had to be sacrificed in the overall interests and wellbeing of the PDP in Ogun State in what is today known, in PDP, as the *Consent Judgement of 2021* which conferred judicial legitimacy on some internal arrangements in the build up to the 2023 rounds of general elections.

With the 2027 parliamentary elections approaching, his candidacy for the Federal House of Representatives has gained immense traction. He is widely acknowledged as the best choice for Yewa South/Ipokia  Constituency, enjoying overwhelming support from the party faithful and the electorate alike.

As a strategic thinker, bridge-builder, and champion of progressive ideals, Chief Olaseni Salako represents the new face of Ogun State politics.
His ascendancy within the PDP signals a shift towards leadership that prioritizes people’s needs, transparency, and genuine development.

With the tide strongly in his favor, the journey to 2027 appears promising, as the people of Ogun State rally behind a leader they trust and believe in.

Politics / ETHOVAN Condemns Automatic Senate Tickets For Former Governors by ChemmyNaija: 6:43pm On Feb 18
Ethos of Omoluabi Vanguard (ETHOVAN), a leading civil society organisation in Nigeria, has strongly condemned the growing trend of outgoing state governors securing automatic tickets to the Senate immediately after their tenure.

The group describes this practice as a major threat to democratic accountability and good governance.

In a statement, ETHOVAN expressed concern that this arrangement is becoming a norm, warning that if not checked, it could encourage systemic corruption and unaccountability.

The organisation is calling on all political parties to put an end to what it describes as an “immoral practice.”

ETHOVAN argues that many outgoing governors do not seek Senate seats to contribute meaningfully to legislative development but rather as a means of evading scrutiny and accountability for their time in office.

The group warns that this trend undermines the Senate’s credibility, reducing it to a “retirement home” for former governors, many of whom have legacies of mismanagement and corruption.

The automatic ticketing system serves as a loophole for governors who may have been involved in corruption, mismanagement of funds, or other malfeasance during their administration,” the statement reads.

“By bypassing necessary scrutiny and public engagement, these individuals sidestep responsibility for their actions.”

Call for Reforms in Political Parties ETHOVAN insists that former governors should not be granted automatic Senate tickets but should take a hiatus from political office to reconnect with the people they once governed.

This, the group believes, would allow for public appraisal of their tenure, a better understanding of governance challenges from a non-executive perspective, and an opportunity to prove their commitment to public service before seeking further electoral positions.

Political parties, ETHOVAN urges, must uphold internal democracy and ensure that Senate tickets are earned through merit and public trust rather than serving as a form of political compensation.

“To strengthen our democracy, parties must open up the space for true representation rather than recycling the same individuals who have already had the opportunity to serve,” the group stated.

Commendation for President Tinubu and Call to Action ETHOVAN commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for not using the Senate as a stepping stone after his tenure as Lagos State governor but instead taking time away from political office before contesting for the presidency.

The group cited this as an example of political maturity and the kind of democratic accountability that should be encouraged.

Furthermore, ETHOVAN is calling on anti-corruption agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), to intensify efforts in investigating former governors and ensuring that public office is not used as a shield against justice.

Business / Obankoro:Police Withdrew Charge Against Us After Discovering Access Bank’s Fraud by ChemmyNaija: 12:13pm On Feb 14
The Managing Director of MOB Integrated Limited, Mr. Gbolahan Obanikoro, has said the Nigeria Police Force withdrew the charge of alleged N1.3 billion filed against him and four others, was because they discovered from their investigation that Access Bank was fraudulently attempting to appropriate their property over a loan they knew nothing about to a third party.

In a statement issued to further “set the record straight”, Obanikoro disclosed that the police withdrew the four-count charge against him his company M. O. B. Integrated Limited after the police discovered the fraudulent attempt of Access Bank to convert their property over a loan to a third party.

“Following the withdrawal of charge No: FHC/902C/2024 between Inspector General of Police V Adejare Adegbenro and others vs the Management of MOB Integrated Services Limited, (MOB) considers it appropriate to set the record of events straight to all the stakeholders and members of the Public, especially, in light of the various media reports on this matter.

“In 2013, Balmoral International Limited (Balmoral) and Diamond Bank Pic (now Access Bank Plc) entered into a loan transaction for the disbursement of N333,139,000 to Balmoral,” the statement read.

Explaining further, Obanikoro stated that while the drawdown condition mandated Balmoral to provide a property as collateral, the Managing Director of Balmoral, Mr. Adejare Adegbenro, pleaded with MOB integrated Services Limited, and himself as the Managing Director, to provide the third party Mortgage and promised to fulfill all the loan conditions including payment of the facility at the due date.

He added that based on the representations, MOB provided a third-party legal mortgage over their property at No. 40B Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi, Lagos as security for the loan.
Upon the conclusion of the initial loan transaction, Diamond Bank (now Access Bank Plc), he said, shockingly granted additional credit facilities to Balmoral without the knowledge or consent of the company, yet Diamond Bank (now Access Bank Pic) still used the property as security for these additional facilities.

Obanikoro recalled that sometime in 2017, they made inquiries on the status of the transaction, and to their greatest surprise, Diamond Bank (now Access Bank Plc) stated that the facility had now ballooned to N1,844,038,276.01 and in fact, followed it up with a Letter of Demand for the said sum.

“When our Company requested the Bank Statement of Balmoral to know the current state of indebtedness, the Bank refused to provide us with the document.

“Further investigation revealed that Diamond Bank Plc and Balmoral had entered into a consent Judgement in a Suit before the Federal High Court, Lagos State in Suit No: FHC/L/CS/709/2016 and agreed to use our Company’s Property to satisfy the alleged indebtedness by Balmoral.

“MOB was not a party to the Suit and was not aware of the pendency of any Suit until a Demand was written to it on the basis of the purported Consent Judgement between Diamond Bank PLC (Now Access Bank Plc) and Balmoral

Politics / One Year Anniversary: How Herbert Wigwe's Sibling Disrespects His Memories by ChemmyNaija: 6:51pm On Feb 08
One Year Anniversary: How Herbert Wigwe's sibling disrespects memories of late philanthropist.

One year after the painful death of Dr Herbert Wigwe, the Former Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Access Holding Plc, the Late banker’s family has been enmeshed in an acrimonious battle over his will and assets.

Newsmen report that some members of the late banker’s family have masked their self-seeking agenda by working through proxies.

Emeka Wigwe, one of the banker's brothers, seems unbothered by the propriety or otherwise of his action.

According to reports, Emeka could not disguise his greed and hatred for the late banker’s children.

He has been acting incredulously since the demise of his later brother, who had written out his will and listed the beneficiaries of his assets.

Reports say Emeka had been detained by his father, Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, for his noxious behaviour. He also attacked men of the Department State Services (DSS), when the late banker’s children, cousin, in-laws and friends were exiting his grave side after a quiet moment and prayer earlier on Saturday ahead of the remembrance of his death on Sunday Feb. 9.
Fortunately, the visitors, which included children and teenagers, had finished their prayers and were exiting the burial ground when Emeka Wigwe barricaded the exit point, with the intention of preventing their vehicles from leaving.

It took the DSS personnel, who went with the visitors for security purposes, to persuade him to allow the vehicles to depart, but Emeka Wigwe decided to assault them as recorded in the viral video.

The professionalism of the men of the DSS came into play and restrained them throughout the period of Emeka Wigwe’s molestation of the security personnel.

According to a report, he had put up a similar behaviour about three months ago at the matriculation ceremony of the Wigwe University, where he did not only assault his nice – late Herbert Wigwe’s daughter, but also disrespected the leadership of the Port Harcourt City One Love Club.

The Club, which he belonged to until his expulsion because of his unruly behaviour, thuggery and disruptive conduct.

The matter was duly reported to the law enforcement agencies, but the individuals concerned decided not to press charges because of entreaties by several well-meaning individuals.

Accordingly, late Dr. Herbert Wigwe’s memorial service and related activities will be held on Sunday, February 9, and water-tight arrangements have been made to ensure security of lives and property.

Crime / Obanikoro Accuses Access Bank Of Using His Property As Collateral For N1bn Loan by ChemmyNaija: 10:57am On Jan 30
New facts have emerged on how Access Bank clandestinely granted N1 billion loan to a going concern, DDSS International Company limited, using a property belonging to another company, MOB Integrated Services, run by Gbolahan Obanikoro, as collateral without the owner’s consent or knowledge.
Details of the loan provided by insiders, revealed that the property, owned by MOB Integrated Services, was first used to guarantee a loan of N193,139,200 to Balmoral International Limited on May 21, 2013, from the now acquired Diamond Bank.
The credit facilities, referenced AOB/BB/VO/AD/031/05/2013, also included N120 million term loan and N20 million import duty facility.
The term of the loan was 180 days from the date of disbursement at 20 per cent per annum, while a third-party legal mortgage on the property located at 40B Bourdillion Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, was used as security.

However, long after Balmoral had repaid and serviced the loan, the bank, without recourse to the property owner, used the same collateral for another loan, completely unknown to the property owner.

The loan of N1 billion was granted to DDSS International Company Limited via an offer letter of May 16, 2019, using the same property as security.

The letter was signed by Bukola Shoyombo, a Relationship Officer in Access Bank Business Banking Division, and Oreoluwa Roy-Egbokhan, a Relationship Manager.

The purpose was to enable DDSS International finance the purchase of different brands of cars and luxury vehicles for sale to individuals and corporate organisations.
The tenor of the loan was for 60 months at 15 per cent interest per annum, subject to review based on prevailing market conditions.

The bank claimed that the collateral was a “comprehensive third-party legal mortgage on property located at 40B Bourdillion Road, Ikoyi. The property is currently with the bank and perfection has been concluded,” the bank claimed in the offer letter.

The implication, the insider, explained, was that the bank granted DDSS International the loan without collateral, because the property was not theirs and the owner had no relationship whatsoever with the company A complaint of stealing was later filed against the bank and others, following which the Lagos State Government filed charges against the Managing Director, Bolaji Agbede, and three others.

In the four-count charge pending before Justice Ibironke Harrison of the Lagos State High Court, sitting in Tafa Balewa Square, the Director, Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Mrs A. O. Oluwafemi, accused the bank and others of conspiracy, stealing, and attempted theft.

The defendants were the Managing Director of Balmoral International Limited, Adejare Adegbenro; Balmoral International Limited, Access Bank, Bolaji Agbede and DDSS International Company Limited.

The charge read: “Count 1: Conspiracy to Commit a felony to wit: stealing contrary to Section 411 of the Criminal Law, Ch. C17, Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

“Particulars of Offence: Adejare Adgbenro (m), Balmoral International Limited, Access Bank and Bolaji Agbede (m) on or about the 24th Day of September 2013 at Plot 1261, Adeota Hopewell Street, Victoria Island, Lagos State in the Lagos Judicial Division, conspired to commit a felony to wit: Stealing.”
The charge stated that they conspired and “stole the property of MOB Integrated Services at Plot 40b, Bourdillion Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, by using it as a security for a loan without his consent and subsequently entering into a consent judgment.”

The defendants were also charged with attempted stealing, contrary to Section 21 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The prosecution said the defendants, on or about May 26, 2019, at Plot 1262, Adeola Hopewell Street, Victoria Island, Lagos State, in the Lagos Judicial Division, “attempted to steal the property of MOB Integrated Services at Plot 40B, Bourdillion Road, Ikoyi, Lagos by offering and granting DDSS International Company Limited a credit facility of N1billion only.”

However, following the defendants’ failure to appear for their arraignment, Justice Harrison ordered their arrest.

The judge issued the arrest warrant after prosecution counsel, Uthman Rilwan, informed the court that despite being served with a notice, the defendants failed to appear.
After issuing the warrant, the judge directed that it be executed against the principal officers of the defendant companies.
She adjourned until February 24, 2025, for arraignment.

Crime / In Search Of A Centralized Criminal Database And Police-managed Law Enforcement by ChemmyNaija: 11:34am On Dec 12, 2024
— Dr. Adoyi ONOJA

How is it possible that in this modern age, the Nigeria Police lacks its own crime database and does not manage a centralized crime database for the law enforcement community in Nigeria? How can the Nigeria Police use a crime database sparingly, treating it as optional rather than essential for its duties? It raises questions about the Police's role in coordinating criminal databases, despite the authority granted to it in Section 4 of Part II of the Police Act 2020.

These scenarios are possible because this is Nigeria, where the Nigerian CHARACTER and the Nigerian FACTOR often turn the impossible into reality. The questions posed arise from the insights gained from the complaints and grievances of victims and countries affected by the Nigerian government's complicity in mismanaging law enforcement. This situation persists in 21st century Nigeria, not in the 19th century colonial context.

These questions are crucial. The Nigeria Police, as the lead agency in policing and law enforcement, should provide answers. However, obtaining these answers is challenging due to a lack of accountability and transparency.

This is the 21st century, characterized by the Fourth Industrial Revolution—a time of constant change in ideas, institutions, and people. Yet, the Nigeria Police remains static, struggling to adapt within this technological landscape. Where does the Nigeria Police fit into the governance of crime in this era, especially without proper data and databases? The uniqueness of the 21st century lies in the effective use of technology for managing resources.

What is the nature and purpose of government and governance in Nigeria? If we accept the definitions of “national security” as outlined in Sections 5 and 14 of the 1999 Constitution, what does this imply for the lives of Nigerians without the necessary data to enforce it? Is the Nigerian government neglectful in recognizing the need for crime data and databases in today’s world? Does it genuinely want to combat crime? Is it committed to equipping the Nigeria Police for this task? Have the political dynamics surrounding security issues blinded the government to the importance of such infrastructure?

Is the leadership of the Nigeria Police genuinely interested in addressing crime? How can the government effectively combat crime without a central criminal database? What is the leadership's stance over the past 25 years regarding the management of such databases? Are they aware of the value of centralized data for law enforcement? What is the reality of interagency cooperation in fighting crime without a centralized database, considering the Police Act empowers the Nigeria Police to facilitate this?

Are the Nigeria Police and its leadership aware of the relevant sections of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 and the Police Act 2020 that mandate them to build and manage a central criminal database? How does the government function without these essential tools?

Whose responsibility is it to address these questions? The Nigerian government must lead in providing answers, while the Nigeria Police leadership should draw attention to these needs. Has the Police leadership acted over the years to highlight the logistical requirements for fulfilling its mandates? If prior leadership made no efforts, what has the current leadership achieved in advocating for necessary data infrastructure?

There are two main issues at hand: whether there exists a central criminal database managed by the Nigeria Police and whether there is a centralized law enforcement database.

The first issue pertains to the Police's mandate, as defined in the relevant laws, including the 1999 Constitution, the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, and the Police Act 2020. Recently, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) announced significant achievements in securing convictions, raising questions about the sources of these statistics given the poor compliance with data collection mandates. How did the IGP arrive at these figures without a supporting database?

The envisioned crime and incident database should include biometrics, fingerprints, case management, and status updates. Are police formations across the country implementing these measures in their daily operations? Does the Nigeria Police maintain a centralized data bank?

If the Nigeria Police cannot manage its own criminal database, how can it effectively address crime and criminality? The need for a centralized data system for law enforcement cannot be overstated. Such a system would facilitate crime analysis and information sharing among agencies, starting with the Nigeria Police and extending to various law enforcement bodies. The Police Act empowers the Nigeria Police to oversee investigations and prosecutions across all areas, making it crucial for them to manage a centralized law enforcement database.

The existence of such a database would enable the Nigeria Police to provide comprehensive information necessary for maintaining law and order. This central database should serve as a one-stop resource for information on individuals and organizations in Nigeria, as mandated by law.

In many countries, police agencies manage their own crime data and databases. Why is Nigeria different? What factors hinder the Nigeria Police from establishing and maintaining a centralized database? Is the failure solely the responsibility of police leadership, or does it stem from governmental neglect? Are rivalries among agencies obstructing the establishment of this critical infrastructure?

What role have various agencies played in undermining the Nigeria Police's ability to manage its data? The growing role of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) raises questions about its intentions in relation to the Nigeria Police's authority.

Where do other agencies store their case data? Who is responsible for managing this information? Section 4(d) of the Police Act supports the Nigeria Police's role in enforcing laws and regulations. What is the status of a centralized law enforcement database to which all case data can be transferred?

If such a database does not exist, why not? Over the past fifteen years of combating various criminal activities, where is the data supporting these efforts? Are rivalries among agencies preventing the Nigeria Police from fulfilling its responsibilities?

The Nigeria Police, unlike any other law enforcement agency in Nigeria, often undermines itself. This self-sabotage is rooted in a historical context of military rule and socio-political stigmatization. The political class tends to favor the military, leaving the Police in a subordinate role.

The insights presented here are informed by the frustrations expressed by international organizations regarding law enforcement in Nigeria. What is the current leadership of the Nigeria Police doing to address the gaps in data management? The absence of a centralized database has led to negative consequences for Nigerians seeking visas abroad, as embassies scrutinize applications due to concerns over the integrity of documents issued by the Nigeria Police.

In conclusion, the Nigeria Police must confront its shortcomings in data management. The question remains: how long will Nigerians endure humiliation due to the failures of their government and its agencies? Who is accountable for the current state of affairs? The Inspector General of Police must clarify the discrepancies between reported statistics and the reality of data management.

Politics / OPINION: Obasa: Blinded By His Ambition by ChemmyNaija: 8:48am On Nov 25, 2024
Attempt by the Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, to use Thursday’s budget presentation by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to settle political scores will forever hunt him and hurt his career, writes Shola Oyeyipo

Whoever seeks the peace and progress of Lagos State, and understands the import of the sneering show of shame exhibited last Thursday by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, during the 2025 budget presentation by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, must have experienced a rather concerning spectacle.
Inspired by overt complex but shackled by biological defects to properly process his thoughts and actions, Obasa took Lagos on a short excursion of the unsightly guttering that most likely gave rise to him.
From the audacity of his veiled threat to a sitting governor and his open, yet, appalling demand for absurd appeasement, it seemed the gloves are off now.
There appears to be no more hiding place or pretence between him and the governor he now brazenly and openly considers a rival rather than the partners they are meant to be. All that had been in the realm of speculations or mere rumour have been stamped to be true. Thanks to the unthinking speaker. At the presentation of the 2025 budget, an event, which by practice and convention, always presents a global city like Lagos, an opportunity to further put itself on the world map, Obasa chose to make a mess of it on account of non-existent political rivalry, accentuated by poverty of ambition, to expose the joke that he is.
He probably didn’t even realise that there could be some foreign investors watching from different parts of the world – London, New York, Paris, Beijing, Brussels – to see the trajectory of the economy of a megacity in the coming year?
Or isn’t it the same budget presentation that Lagos used to invite seasoned economists and captains of industry to witness, just to show the importance attached to the event and take them through plans for the year in focus? As a serious business, budget presentation has never been a charade that Obasa has suddenly turned it into, thus desecrating the hallowed chamber. The reason this despicable showing was more worrisome is because it came from the longest serving speaker in the state. At least, for now. To add to this infantile demeanour is that the whole thing was not spontaneous. Obasa and his thoughtless allies in the assembly actually orchestrated it all, spending quality time to plan plain shamelessness.
This included their decision to not applaud the governor after his speech and also not to wear agbada for the occasion but to sport sunshades. Even Gen-Zs would do better. But before you think this is an exaggeration of what might have happened, especially if you didn’t watch the event, you may want to read some of the excerpts from the drivel the speaker called speech.
“…That being said, it is necessary to harp on the fact that under democracy, this arm of government remains independent. This House, of course, recognises this and will always be so, even though we work hand-in-hand with other arms of government. “It is also important to state here that this House is a sanctuary and temple, just like every other temple anywhere where we all worship. No one will violate any temple and expect the gods to accept his or her sacrifice.
“And if such happens, there must be an appease to the gods to accept such atonement. No amount of intimidation or coercing will disintegrate or change the belief of all the members of this institution!
“Today, we want to assure Mr Governor that this honourable House will look at the budget and do the necessary scrutiny as usual. But it should be noted that this institution remains resolute. We will never be disgraced, abused, or ridiculed in the name of creating a seamless working ambiance.
“Let me also emphasise that those who live in glass house must not throw stone as the saying goes. This also brings to my mind, according to our people: eni ba yara logun ngbe. Meaning, the god of iron recognises the swift ones.

“In other words, those who are facilitating or planning to interfere in this House or destroy the cohesion of this institution should also be prepared for same fate.
“May I use this medium to sensitise us more on the need to build and sustain our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), regarding our focus for 2027. We need to continue to mobilise people just as I do frequently.
“I have made it a personal task to mobilise people on the platform of Mandate, which has been misconstrued by some political detractors as being selfish aspiration on the ground for me to become governor of the state.
“There is the need, however, to correct this wrong impression. My concern is about building our party, and whatever we do is mainly for this cause.

“To the blackmailers who have embarked on the mission to distort and redefine our mission, let me state it unequivocally here. Our intention is to promote our party on the platform of Mandate.
“Also, becoming governor is secondary; it is something that I have not given a serious consideration. Nevertheless, that does not mean I am too young or lack experience to run; whereas, those who have been before me are not better of…”
So, Obasa and his travel buddies are now gods to be appeased? He went on to conclude that those who had been before him were not better off? What is he even saying here? The question is, who is he close to in all the boxes of consideration for leadership – from speakership to governorship? The closest anyone can relate to him in terms of disposition is MC Oluomo, who unfortunately has even kept and maintained a better steeze in public. From day one, Obasa has remained a defacing character to the beautiful portrait of Lagos. No less an error of choice, which speaks, sometimes, to the warped leadership recruitment process for crass political correctness in the state. He has reduced the very essence of the cosmopolitan description of the state and makes leadership appear like a free-for-all.
The question on where Obasa derives his “borrowed confidence” from will be asked at other times. But if he is stoking crisis in the state or picking on Sanwo-Olu because of a reward that will never come, then he must be a very poor student of history.
He is no more than a cannon fodder – an expendable more or less – who would be used maximally and dumped when all that is left is sheer nuisance without values. Again, if he thinks in considering worthy characters for the Lagos governorship, he would ever cross anyone’s mind, then he must have slept for too long, struggling to wake up from a choking nightmare.

The fact that he even found the budget presentation an appropriate forum to denigrate an office he aspires to, promote political agenda and hint at group affiliation (Mandate), is in itself a failed strategy that is sure to consume him, ultimately.
The countdown to 2027 has begun, without a doubt, and everyone who saw his fickle display of power yesterday would be back to remind him of this very shameful event, by which time he would be no more than a used up clod.

K1 revealed his favorite sports aside Football is boxing and table tennis during the days of Atanda Musa but music took him away for further exploits in sports which actually diverted him from negative vices adopted by youngsters during his heydays.

"Many people may not know this, but during my youth, I was a passionate boxer and table tennis player. I frequently visited Rowe Park Sports Complex to hone my skills and draw inspiration from exceptional athletes. Sports played a significant role in shaping my formative years, instilling discipline and guiding me toward the right paths in life."

"Grassroots sports development is crucial, and I deeply admire the remarkable work being done by the Lagos State Sports Commission in this regard", he quipped.

Fatodu, a passionate advocate for sports development in Lagos, expressed his excitement at the opportunity to partner with KWAM 1, stating that the initiative could have a profound impact on the lives of many youths across the state. He emphasized that the Lagos Sports Commission is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where young people can thrive, develop skills, and gain a sense of purpose through sports.

One of the key outcomes of the visit was the mutual understanding between Fatodu and Marshall that sports should be seen not just as a leisure activity, but as a career path that can provide numerous benefits. Whether it’s football, basketball, athletics, or even non-competitive forms of physical activity, the sports industry in Lagos holds the potential to create jobs, boost mental health, and provide a sense of discipline and community for young people.

In this context, both Fatodu and Marshall agreed on the importance of creating more platforms for youth engagement in sports. They discussed initiatives that would involve young people in various sporting events, offer training opportunities, and provide access to sports facilities that may have been previously inaccessible.

“We believe sports can be a powerful tool for engaging the youth, empowering them to achieve their full potential, and, most importantly, providing them with an alternative to negative influences,” Fatodu remarked.

“With King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall’s reach and influence, we can inspire many young Nigerians to get involved in sports and make positive life choices.”

King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall has always used his music as a vehicle for social change. Known for his powerful voice and impactful lyrics, KWAM 1 has the ability to mobilize and inspire people from all walks of life. This unique blend of music and sports represents an innovative approach to youth engagement that could resonate deeply with young Lagosians, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Marshall expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, noting that sports and music both share the ability to bring people together, teach discipline, and foster a sense of community. “Music has always been a unifying force, and I believe that sports can be just as powerful,” he said. “By joining forces with the Lagos State Sports Commission, we can show the youth that there is more to life than crime, drugs, or negative behaviors. There are better, healthier, and more rewarding options out there.”

The partnership between Lekan Fatodu and King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall sends a strong message to the youth of Lagos State and beyond: the future is bright for those who embrace the power of sports and use it as a tool for self-improvement. Fatodu emphasized that the Lagos State Sports Commission would continue to promote activities, events, and initiatives that encourage youth participation in sports. He also urged parents and guardians to support their children’s interest in sports, viewing it as an avenue for personal development and success.

Through this collaboration, both Fatodu and Marshall hope to ignite a wave of youth participation in sports, while also addressing broader social issues such as unemployment, crime, and the allure of street life. The sports sector, if properly nurtured, can be a stepping stone to greater opportunities and a brighter future for the youth of Lagos State.

I'm conclusion, the courtesy visit between the Director General of the Lagos Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, and the iconic Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, marks the beginning of a significant partnership aimed at empowering young Nigerians.
Lagos continues to lead the way in youth empowerment and sports development, initiatives like these serve as a testament to the power of community and collaboration in building a better future for the next generation.

Politics / Former ZLP Chairmanship Candidate, Hon, Bankole Berates OGSIEC On LG Election by ChemmyNaija: 2:09pm On Nov 18, 2024
A one time Local Government Chairmanship Candidate of the Zenith Labour Party in Ogun state, Hon. Bankole Adewale Saheed has rated Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission , OGSIEC low on the conduct of the just concluded 2024 local government election in the state.

Honourable Bankole while speaking with journalists on the election explained that the OGSIEC performance is below the expected standard because the election was not fair as expected in various places visited.

He also lamented the late arrival of electoral materials and the OGSIEC Ad-hoc staff in various polling units which subjected lots of electorates to be stranded at their polling units.

He also alleged that Vote cast were not counted at some polling boots before the ballot boxes were taken to collation centres, which he said pointed out to the fact that the process was not transparent.

The former ZLP candidate maintained that Ogun state is known for good things and the local government election is falling short of Ogun state standard.

He therefore commended people of Ogun state , especially the electorates for towing the part of peace during the election despite provocation from different quarters.

" The election did not still go as expected, it was marred with illegalities in several polling boots, at some polling unit, the ballot papers were not counted, they just packed them and took everything to collation centres. And that actions cast a doubt on the whole process."

He therefore urged the National Assembly to pass the law that will empower INEC or any other independent bodies to conduct local government elections in Nigeria because that is the only way individual votes can count. That will also put an end to the situation whereby a single party will win all posts as the case is in every state of the federation where the ruling party wins all seats.

" I am using this opportunity to also support the call for the national assembly to pass the bill that will empower INEC or any other Independent body to conduct local government elections because that is the only way our votes will count. " Honourable Bankole Concluded.

Politics / Lagos 2027: Early Promptings Of Idiocy by ChemmyNaija: 5:59pm On Nov 11, 2024
There have been subtle projections for the Lagos state governorship election in 2027. Unfortunately, these early promptings seem to lack the requisite intellectual rigour for the dynamic politics and leadership demands of the state of acquatic splendour. Shola Oyeyipo writes.
A general build-up to the 2027 national elections can no longer be dismissed as “too early” again, given the current provisions of the nation’s electoral laws. By the letters of these laws, elected officials can hardly savour two years at a stretch to deliver on their promises, before campaign distractions commence.
Sections 76(2), 116(2), 132(2) and 178(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), state that elections shall hold not earlier than one hundred and fifty (150) days and not later than thirty (30) days before the expiration of the term of office of` the last holder of that office.
By these provisions, the electoral commission, INEC, is empowered by Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 to issue Notice for the elections not later than 360 days before the date of the elections.

Once this is done, governance takes the back stage and politics becomes the in-thing. Thus, if anyone is starting to project for the next bout of election, it may be considered part of the build-up, albeit an unlawful indulgence at this time.
Yet, the recent balloon trials about the likely turn that the Lagos governorship might take were not only poor attempts at simulating anything, they failed to show a grasp of the issues that might dominate political discourse at this time.
In one of those efforts, the failure to credit the president, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, with deserving political intelligence by expressly tipping his son, Seyi, as a likely choice for the Lagos governorship,  was one idiotic undertaking loaded with absolute baloney.
Excuse qualification for a bit as a different debate on its own, no other more serious political considerations, including religion and geopolitical factors spared a thought for him.

How a president, who would be battling to return to office, would willfully set his empire on fire, is unlikely his disposition, even though a renowned risk-taking political juggernaut.
It’s no doubt a delicate wager and there’s no debating the fact that no politician worth his salt would travel, not just on such a highway to nowhere, but obstreperously stoke a fire that would consume all that he already has in the bag.
That said, the qualification debate can now step forward. However, anyone looks at this, what has Seyi done that would make his father push him forward for the Lagos governorship?
Take a quick review of the profiles of everyone who had governed Lagos, starting from his father and say to yourself which of them he comes close to, including Akinwunmi Ambode, who was not allowed to seek re-election?

The Yoruba will readily ask anyone with poor reasoning to smell his own words and tell how badly it stinks. Perhaps, those pushing this agenda should read over their garbage and tell themselves how that is feasible with all the variables waiting to determine the next choice for Lagos.
Curiously, the other leg to the early promptings and their tawdry delivery was the veiled move to put down some names, while making others appear impossible choices.
It is true and arguable that the Senator representing Lagos East, Tokunbo Abiru, is a good material for Lagos. From the halls of many banks to the red chamber, it is hard to dismiss or downplay his eligibility, suitability and capacity.
He fits the bill in all ramifications and has earned a constant mention in the race for the Lagos governorship, even before he went to the senate. These notwithstanding, he, too, would battle other factors, although determined by the “owner” of Lagos, when the time comes. His choice is therefore not a given yet.

Interestingly, one name that is gradually creeping into the mix, and which a majority of the Lagos politicians are coming to terms with as seemingly fitting the bill and picture of Tinubu’s unusual choice for governor is the current Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa.
Whatever analysis anyone is doing now that does not yield a deserving space to Alausa is probably clowning for want of what to write. He may appear unnoticed and unpopular for now, many observers from Lagos already see his redeployment from junior minister at the Ministry of Health to Education as instructive.
This development, they now argue, was not only to properly position and prepare him for the Lagos challenge, they are convinced that the ministry would start to get more votes as part of design to empower and put him on a stronger footing ahead of the decision to either draft him into the race or empower him.

For an average politician, his nomination to the cabinet was not a surprise. The duo of Tinubu and Alausa had come a long way since their days in the United States. While the latter was said to have done a lot in service for the former back in the day, Tinubu has not had the opportunity to compensate him. The time to do so is now.
Unfortunately, there’s one more name that is already being mentioned, sadly in talk-down tone and that is the current Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat – a man of class and distinction.
While no one can emerge Lagos governor without the blessing of the president, except, of course, God personally steps in, Hamzat is one material that both the political class and the ordinary citizens of the state have continued to tip as Lagos’ best bet. Their reasons suit all logics.

First, as the current deputy governor, who would have run the state with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for eight years by 2027, it would make transition easy. The fact that he understands the development agenda of the state as an active player cancels out many “ifs”.
In addition, he satisfies practically all political considerations as far as the race to the Lagos governorship is concerned. Smart, sound and very intelligent, he is also hands-on, so much that his choice would naturally relieve the president of any worry back home while the battle for his reelection rages across the nation.
His knowledge of Lagos, development politics, issues and the management of the political class puts him miles ahead of everyone else. This also explains while those conversant with these facts but want someone else have continued to use his strengths against him, insinuating that the president would not field a man, who seems solid in everything.
By implications, the move is intended to set him up for failure and make him lose favour before the president. Indeed, some have also openly sung to him that anyone who overtly or subtly indicates interest in the governorship never gets it, citing the president’s style as constant in this decision.
However, while it may appear that the president has always gambled with his choice of the Lagos governor, and has always been lucky to end up with good hands, including Ambode, his inadequacies nonetheless, political dynamics also demand a review of strategy for results that are in sync with current realities.
At the end of the day, the only person who will determine the next governor of Lagos state is God through the instrumentality of the people.
The same God has also placed in President Tinubu, the power and influence to choose right on behalf of the people again in 2027, without downplaying the prevailing factors, both in the state and his own election.
But the choice candidate must have the right character, temper, knowledge and capacity to do the job. After all, this is Lagos.
In the final analysis, the early promptings are not completely out of place and may help stoke real conversations ahead of the Lagos 2027 poll. However, pandering to obvious idiocy in order to flesh up weak analyses is counterproductive, even to their own idea of who the cap fits.

Properties / Idris Alubankudi Saliu: The Untouchable Power Player in Tinubu's Administration by ChemmyNaija: 1:16pm On Sep 21, 2024
*Idris Alubankudi Saliu: The Untouchable Power Player in Tinubu's Administration*

Just as we’ve seen in past governments, messing with Idris Alubankudi Saliu, the Special Adviser on Technology and Digital Economy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is perilous. Despite his relatively young age, he wields significant power within the Tinubu administration.

Little wonder many in the corridors of power in Abuja catch cold if Idris Alubankudi Saliu sneezes. He parades himself as the anointed “Godson” of the President, who has the ever-listening ear of his principal, to the extent that he commands the president’s attention.

Unlike typical advisors who collaborate with the Federal Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Saliu is said to report directly to the president.

Reports suggest that Saliu is at the forefront of a coordinated strategy that some describe as state capture, leveraging his background in the private sector. He previously served as Chief Technical Officer at Interswitch and co-founded two fintech companies, Ceviant Finance and Arca. Various sources allege that Saliu, along with other advisors and ministers, is engaged in actions that favor personal and financial interests over national priorities, positioning their associates within key industries rather than allowing for fair competition.

Saliu appears to be utilizing his extensive expertise in technology, telecommunications, and finance to infiltrate major private companies through various means. One insider remarked, “Despite initial skepticism about his appointment as Special Adviser, it's evident that his role is to leverage his knowledge to align financial opportunities for himself and his associates.”

In just 18 months, the Tinubu administration is perceived as aggressively consolidating control, with Saliu playing a crucial role in implementing strategies that impose unreasonable demands on major companies. Many firms find themselves facing a stark choice: comply or suffer significant losses. They are reportedly being targeted through summons, investigations, and denial of approvals. Once companies fall out of favor with Saliu, it appears that only divine intervention or the president’s influence might prompt him to relent.

Allegations have surfaced that Saliu is exploiting frivolous petitions and misinformation to misdirect regulatory agencies, wasting resources on fruitless investigations that yield no results. It remains uncertain whether President Tinubu is aware of these activities or if Saliu is acting independently or in coordination with other high-ranking officials.

There are indications that numerous formal complaints have been lodged against him, and if Nigeria were more transparent with such petitions, the public would see many responses he has had to provide. Concerns are growing within government circles about the implications of these actions, while those in the private sector are increasingly wary of the potential damage to the president’s reputation. However, fear of repercussions has silenced many who might otherwise speak out.

It goes without saying that, wielding such a big stick, Saliu has been using his advantageous position to enrich himself beyond avarice, greed, and self-aggrandizement, fostering an environment of bitterness and selfishness in many cases.

Politics / Anioma Youths Salute Ned Nwoko For Forging The Development Of Anioma Nation by ChemmyNaija: 2:06pm On Sep 17, 2024
By Nduka Enugo

In what looks like an unwarranted attack on the person of the senator representing Delta North Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ned Nwoko and the current champion for the creation of Anioma state, it has become necessary to question why he is again being attacked by the hawks of some political players and key state actors over his concern on the AGIP power station at Okpai in Ndokwa Land of the state.

Senator Nwoko is selfless in his quest for a better Anioma. His interrogations of state process are in line with his duties as a senator.

Sen. Nwoko opined that Delta state can fund the 35 billion Naira step down project at Okpai, either through a private sector driven initiative or an outright payment by the state government. This is a statement of fact as the funding from FAAC makes it an irrefutable presumption. Delta has gotten about 40 billion naira monthly on the average within the last one year. This is verifiable.

Let it also be recorded that the state government has received several billions of naira with a ministry of power in the state, trailing failures, with no positive records to show for such allocations. The failure of the Independent power plant at Oghara and other such initiatives in the state are pointers to the collaborative efforts to deny the people of Delta State from regular supply of electricity in the state.
If the state Govt is servicing the debts accrued by previous administrations as being touted by very critical elements in the state, then the welfare of the people us not being prioritized.

It may sound strange, but why has nobody been prosecuted for the darkness in the state ? Why is Senator Nwoko being attacked for saying the truth against those who are bent on conniving to throw Ndokwa people and other people into perpetual darkness when they have the natural resources to keep the area aglow, even in the darkest hours ?

Something is definitely wrong in the attack on Senator Nwoko over this issue as said by Chief Rich Kay from Abbi, but come what may, Senator Nwoko will laugh last over this issue, as the entire progressives in Delta and Anioma people, including the dispora are with him in demanding good governance.

Deltans will continue to ask more critical questions that demand answers.

Politics / Published List By Yayi’s Caucus A Fraud, Abeokuta North APC Chieftain Speaks Out by ChemmyNaija: 8:16pm On Sep 02, 2024
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abeokuta North who is also a member of the Working Committee of the party has disassociated himself from a recent list released via a newswire where Yomade Biobaku, Taiwo Egbeyemi and Hakeem Oluseye was declared to have been nominated through a voting process.

When speaking to newsmen in Ibara, the party chieftain who described the process as a fraud hinted that the Yayi boys in the local government had excluded all recognised and constitutionally qualified stakeholders from the process.

He asked how many ward chairmen were at the meeting? How many Local Government executives were are the meeting? He said he’s asking because the constitution of the party only recognise those as duly certified stakeholders that can participate in any recognisable nomination and admissible process.

In his words, the so called outcome of the nomination is only a figment of the imaginations of the select group who are hell bent of pushing an agenda that according to them is to have 18 of the 20 local government chairmen in Ogun State come from the Yayi caucus.PUBLISHED LIST BY YAYI’S CAUCUS A FRUAD, ABEOKUTA NORTH APC CHIEFTAIN SPEAKS OUT

Politics / Abeokuta North APC Chairmanship Primaries Hit A Deadlock by ChemmyNaija: 8:01pm On Sep 02, 2024
In what can be described as a house divided against itself, reports from the chairmanship primaries conducted by the leadership of Abeokuta North have again landed in a deadlock with two separate lists emerging and on their way to the Governor.

From the grapevine, it was gathered that a caucus believed to be loyalist of the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi had gone to set-up a nomination process believed to deliver the wishes of the Senator which was to produce his Personal Assistant Yomade Biobaku as the nominated chairmanship candidate.

The same caucus were equally fingered to have clandestinely smuggled the names of other Yayi loyalists Taiwo Egbeyemi who is one of executors of the former Special Adviser on Political Affairs Rt Hon Tunji Egbetokun, and Hakeem Oluseye.

In another development, it was gathered that the following names Muyiwa Fajimi, Olayiwola Ojodu and Lanre Oyegbola emerged from the same selection process and at the same venue and has been forwarded to the appropriate quarters.
The list which was cited and from a source who pledged anonymity mentioned that the party leadership and critical stakeholder were the ones that signed this list. It is considered as the authentic representation of the position and wishes of the party members in the local government and the mandate of the leadership of the APC in Ogun State.

Business / Monumental Fraud:Court Orders Union Bank To Pay Billions To Late Ogunde's Estate by ChemmyNaija: 11:06pm On Aug 09, 2024
FULL DETAILS OF HOW THE BANK FRAUDULENTLY SOLD DECEASED CUSTOMERS PROPERTY AND DISOBEYED COURT ORDER TO PRODUCE CUSTOMER'S BANK STATEMENT

Justice Ibironke Harrison of a Lagos High Court in Tafawa Balewa Square has held that Union Bank perpetrated monumental fraud in the selling of a property owned by the late Otunba Adedoyin Olayide Ogunde, to offset a loan debt.

In the judgement delivered after 25 years of legal tussle, Justice Harrison found out that the sale of late Ogunde’s property situated at old Ikoyi, Lagos, by Union Bank to offset a loan facility by the deceased was conducted in bad faith and at a significantly undervalued price.

The judge found out that the property worth N142 million was ridiculously sold by the bank at N30 million.

According to Justice Harrison, the mere fact that Ogunde defaulted in repaying the loan was no valid excuse for the bank to fling his property at ridiculous rates simply for the purpose of realising the debt owed; and doing so at a price that is so low is evidence of fraud.

“The only obligation incumbent on a mortgagee under a power of sale of his mortgage is that he should act in good faith. The court will always be on the lookout that the mortgagee acts bonafide and observes reasonable precautions to obtain not the best price, but a proper price.

"By the sale of Plot 6A, the bank had fully realised its money and had some balance to remit to the family. Without remitting the balance, it went ahead to sell the rest of the buildings.

"By going against what it had told Ogunde’s personal representatives on the partition of the property, the Bank's action smacks of fraud, collusion and definitely does not show good faith.

"Union Bank further failed accountability principles when it withheld vital documents, including the deceased’s statement of account, from the court, showing that those documents, if produced, could have impacted negatively on the bank", the judge ruled.

In her judgement, Justice Harrison held that Union Bank failed to act in good faith in discharging its duties as a trustee for the deceased’s estate, as the sale of the property was conducted privately rather than by auction as instructed.

Justice Harrison noted that the property, comprising nine luxurious flats and additional plots, was sold for N30 million by the bank has fully covered the deceased’s outstanding debt of over N14 million.

"Further sales of additional plots for N30 million each were also undervalued. There was also lack of transparency regarding the balance utilization after settling the debt, suggesting fraud and collusion.

While the sales could not be overturned due to insufficient direct evidence of collusion by buyers, the claimants were entitled to damages", the judge further held.
Consequently, Justice Harrison ordered the bank to pay N112 million to the children of the deceased.

The court also ordered interest payment on the money from 1998 until the judgment date at the prevailing Central Bank of Nigeria rate, and 10 per cent per annum from the judgment date until full payment.

Going by this court's directive, the bank is liable to pay more than N10.5 billion as at 2024.

The claimants in the suit marked LD/2624/1999 are the children of the deceased, while Olushola Ogunde, Olubunmi Ashiru, Kehinde Ogunde, Olayinka Madden (executor of Ogunde’s estate), the Probate Registrar of the Lagos High Court, and Union Bank of Nigeria were joined as co-defendants as 1st to 6th defendants in the suit.

In the suit, the Ogunde family contended that the sale and the processes relied on by the bank to dispose of their benefactor’s property was characterised by fraud and collusion.

The family further argued that the assets were of a higher value than what the bank placed on it, and that there was a collusion between the bank and the purchasers.

Union Bank opposed an amendment to the claimants’ statement, arguing it was statute-barred. However, in May 2017, Justice Morenike Obadina dismissed this objection, allowing the amendment.

In the suit, the claimants are seeking among others, a declaration that granting of Probate by the 5th defendant of the last Will and Testament of Otunba Adedoyin Olayide Ogunde (deceased) dated 2nd August, 1995 on the 17th of November, 1997 to the 1st to 4th defendants as executors is wrongful, null and void, the same being inconsistent with the provisions and intendment of the Will as made by the Testator.

They were also seeking an order of injunction restraining the 6th defendant, its servants, agents, privies, assigns or any other person acting for it from disbursing, dissipating or otherwise part with the possession of the balance due to the Estate of Otunba Adedoyin Olayide Ogunde (deceased) on the sale of 6, Moore Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, pursuant to the legal mortgage in that respect to any person until the final determination of this suit.

Crime / Hired Soldiers Fire Live Bullets At Workers Executing Court Orders In Asese by ChemmyNaija: 2:48pm On Jul 07, 2024
Residents of Asese, Ogun State, are living in fear after Nigerian soldiers allegedly hired by Christ Embassy fired live bullets at workers executing a court-ordered demolition.

The incident occurred on Saturday around 4 p.m., causing widespread panic and forcing businesses to close.

Videos obtained by The Standard Gazette reveal the tense standoff, with Nigerian security personnel kneeling with guns aimed at the youths and employees of Iffen Ventures, the demolition company tasked with carrying out the court’s mandate.

The sight of armed soldiers compelled the workers to abandon their equipment and flee for their lives.

Iffen Ventures had previously attempted the demolition on Wednesday, July 3, but were similarly threatened by the same soldiers. Undeterred, the company returned to the site on July 6, only to face the same hostile reception.

The soldiers’ presence and threats to open fire if the workers proceeded with the demolition created a climate of fear and tension in the community.

“Their action was awful. If we had proceeded, they would have killed the people. If we decided to do the job at night, people would die, and some would be missing,” Olabode Babafemi, a representative from Iffen Ventures, stated.

Quoting one of the soldiers as saying, ‘If you continue, we will take the necessary actions,’ meaning they would open fire on us.”

The escalating situation has resulted in the temporary abandonment of the demolition project. Shops and businesses in the area have shuttered in response to the ongoing threat, with residents fearing for their safety.

“I will talk to Mr. Audu to get a task force and reinforcement to protect them from being intimidated,” Olabode said, emphasizing the need for additional security measures to ensure the court order can be executed without further violence.

The incident highlights the growing tension, lawlessness in the region and the corruption of the Nigerian soldiers, as court orders are met with armed resistance, putting lives at risk and undermining the rule of law.

What Happened?

The High Court of Ogun State, Abeokuta Judicial Division, presided over by Honourable Justice B.B. Adebowale, issued a ruling in favour of Mr Paul Roy Audu in the suit against the Incorporated Trustees of InnerCity Mission for Children, BLW Nigeria Limited, and several Ogun State officials. The judgment mandates demolishing an unauthorized fence blocking a public access road adjacent to the plaintiff’s property.

Case Background:

Mr Paul Roy Audu, the plaintiff, initiated legal action on October 4, 2022, seeking an interlocutory injunction to prevent the defendants from erecting a fence that obstructs the right-of-way and public access road servicing his land and the surrounding community. This request was made to ensure access preservation until the suit’s determination.

Despite the pending application, the 1st and 2nd defendants allegedly proceeded to construct the disputed fence in August 2023. This led to the plaintiff filing another motion on October 18, 2023, requesting a mandatory injunction to dismantle the fence and restore the status quo ante bellum, which refers to the state of affairs before the construction of the fence.

Justice Adebowale ruled in favour of Mr Audu’s application, directing the 4th and 5th defendants, represented by the Ministry of Physical Planning & Urban Development and the Bureau of Land and Survey, to:

Demolish the fence constructed by the 1st and 2nd defendants within the public right-of-way under the supervision of the Divisional Police Officer of Ibafo Police Station.

Ensure compliance with the order and file an affidavit of compliance within fourteen days of the ruling.

The court emphasized that the actions of the 1st and 2nd defendants, taken while the initial injunction application was pending, were contemptuous and altered the status quo, thus necessitating corrective measures.

Implications:

This ruling underscores the court’s commitment to upholding legal processes and preventing unlawful obstructions that affect community access and property rights. The demolition order aims to restore the original state of the disputed access road and reinforce the rule of law.

Legal representatives involved in the case include Na Muviwa-Oni for the Claimant, Tope Ojewunmi for the 1st Defendant, Dr Okunide Ayeni and Cynthia Chukwu for the 2nd Defendant and Adehuale Maruwa along with O.A. Adebayo for the 3rd to 5th defendants.
