Crime / 43 Nigerian Nurses Have Been Charged In The United States Of America by chily11: 8:24am On Apr 03, 2023
A total of 43 Nigerian nurses have been charged in the United States of America for allegedly fraudulently obtaining educational credentials. This comes after the Texas Board of Nursing conducted high-end investigations, leading to the arrest of 25 additional Nigerian nurses, following the arrest of 18 others in February 2023. The charges include fraudulently obtaining educational credentials, which include certificates and licenses.

It is alleged that these nurses had used fraudulent means to obtain their nursing degrees, diplomas, and licenses, which are a requirement for them to practice in the US. This is not the first time Nigerian nurses have been involved in such fraudulent activities. In 2019, a Nigerian nurse, identified as Oluyemisi Adebayo, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for visa fraud, making false statements, and conspiracy to commit health care fraud.

The charges against these nurses are an embarrassment to the country and its reputation abroad. Nigeria has been battling with issues of corruption, which have affected its reputation and credibility on the international stage. This incident further highlights the need for the Nigerian government to take proactive measures to combat corruption and fraudulent activities.

The Nigerian government has been urged to take the necessary steps to address the issue of corruption, which is a major obstacle to the country’s development. It is important that the government puts in place measures to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.

The initial 18 Nigerians charged in the first list include
1. Abiodun Felicia;
2. Adelakun Aveez;
3. Adelekan Adewale;
4. Adeoye Temitope;
4. Adewale Abidemi;
6. Afolabi Toun;
7. Afolabi Omowunmi;
8. Agbo Steve; and
9. Ajibade Omotayo.

Others are:
10. Akande Olabisi;
11. Akhigbe Catherine;
12. Akinrolabu Folasade;
13. Ako Esiri;
14. Akpan Rosemary;
15. Alimi Bukola;
16. Ani Ndirika;
17. Aroh Nchekwube; and
18. Ayodeji Sherifat.

Politics / Tinubu's Drug Business Was Over 10 Yrs Ago; He Can Be President Now: Bayo Onanug by chily11: 4:44pm On Mar 26, 2023
Bayo Onanuga, chief spokesman for President-elect Bola Tinubu, on Saturday argued that his principal’s cocaine racket in the United States happened more than 10 years ago and cannot, therefore, be used as a basis to truncate his victory at the polls last month.
“The Obi supporters don’t read. They live in a cocoon of falsehood and contrived propaganda,” Mr Onanuga said while responding to a tweet from Ayo Obe, another surrogate of Mr Tinubu’s, who said the new Nigerian leader cannot be sacked by the Supreme Court because his established drug trafficking case in Chicago was already statute-barred.

Mrs Obe cited Section 137 (1)e) of the Constitution that said a Nigerian cannot be elected president within 10 years of a conviction for offences brought by the Code of Conduct Bureau.

“A person shall not be qualified for election to the office of President if within a period of less than ten years before the date of the election to the office of President he has been convicted and sentenced for an offence involving dishonesty or he has been found guilty of the contravention of the Code of Conduct,” the section said.

Mrs Obe, however, left out the preceding section of the Constitution, Section 137 (1)(d), that disqualified anyone who had been fined for any offences in the past from becoming president. That section, which applies to Mr Tinubu’s forfeiture of over $460,000 due to drug crimes in Chicago in 1993, did not give any timeline under which a convict can be released to run for Nigeria’s presidency.

It only said: “A person shall not be qualified for election to the office of President if he is under a sentence of death imposed by any competent court of law or tribunal in Nigeria or a sentence of imprisonment or fine for any offence involving dishonesty or fraud (by whatever name called) or for any other offence, imposed on him by any court or tribunal or substituted by a competent authority for any other sentence imposed on him by such a court or tribunal.”

In 2014, the Supreme Court defined forfeiture as punishment for an offence under Nigerian criminal statutes.

“The word “forfeiture” means – “the divestiture of property without compensation. The loss of a right, privilege, or property because of a crime, breach of obligation, or neglect of duty,” the court ruled on January 17, 2014, in Mohammed Abacha and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“A person who has forfeited property on the basis of a crime cannot be entitled to indemnity. Forfeiture is a form of punishment. There is no indemnity in our criminal procedure,” the court further stated in a majority decision delivered by now-Chief Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.

The daughter of the APC candidate for the 2023 General election in Nigeria is seen in this video been addressed as Her Excellency after gifting their supporters over 10m naira CASH which is a clear case of money laundering.

According to the money laundering act, sections 16(1)&(2) accepting cash payments in excess of threshold (5m for individuals and 10m for corporate bodies) allowed without going through a financial institution.

Politics / Re: Do We Have A Spending Problem Or A Revenue Problem? Let's Discuss The Manifesto by chily11: 7:44pm On Oct 21, 2022
The big miss in the document is how it will fund this expansionary budget.

It already says “increasing taxes is counterproductive “ pg 18

It says the bulk of money will come from “reducing leakages” I agree, but show me the details.

Overall, document, needs more drill down

Oil and gas pg 33

Nothing new of note mentioned here except frontier oil drilling in Lake Chad (seriously?)

However gas prices to be deregulated in 6 months? Pg 36 Then what?

Says PMS subsidy will go does not say when. Pg 37

The Tinubu administration will also only borrow in $ for projects that generate revenues that repay the $ loans. Pg 21

Tie this into the mass employment of youth to build infrastructure, pg 14 l. how much of this infrastructure will be revenue generating?

"Government can hire millions of unemployed Nigerians to modernise national infrastructure”

Are they skilled? This reeks of “recruit 50 million youths into the army”.
Politics / Do We Have A Spending Problem Or A Revenue Problem? Let's Discuss The Manifesto by chily11: 6:56pm On Oct 21, 2022
Tinubu: We have a spending problem in the sense that we are not spending enough. We need to pass laws to remove restrictions preventing us from spending more.

According to this manifesto, he plans to spend as much as he wants without any restrictions to the amount of money.

This economic sabotage by the government of Kogi state will definitely not be tolerated. The court has made its stand on this issue and if Kogites feels they're not employed enough, then there are better ways to seek redress other than closing the business of our brother.
